12 Parking Brake problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/17/2009

I own a 2008 Honda Civic (purchased new) with under 25, 000 miles. I immediately had to have to rotors resurfaced when I took delivery of the vehicle. . . As I was driving home, I could feel the brakes pulsating when I applied the brakes. I returned to the dealer and they had to resurface the rotors then. After that, the first problem I had was with the rear wheel bearings and the left rear brakes (pads, caliper, rotor). At approximately 18k both rear wheel bearings needed to be replaced, the left rear caliper was frozen, the pads were worn due to that and the rotor needed to be resurfaced. The repairs were covered under warranty and no explanation could be given as to a reason for the premature wear. At approximately 20k, I had to have the front rotors resurfaced (both right and left) due to premature/uneven wear). Unfortunately, this was done by my own mechanic during routine maintenance and is not documented by Honda (I spoke to Honda and was told it was most likely due to "driver/road conditions and there was no way to tell since it was not repaired by a dealer). Recently, I noticed the parking brake sticking/freezing and brought the car in for service. The brake pads on the right rear, were unevenly/prematurely worn and the caliper was frozen. Both rear rotors had to be resurfaced again! these repairs were also covered under warranty, but again, no explanation could be given as to what keeps causing this premature wear of the brakes. Also, this morning, the "side air bag off" indicator light came on and now needs to go back for service again (2nd time in a week).

14 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

Several interior controls, such as door handles and the parking brake, are metalized plastics. As the car ages, the metal plating starts to peal off. As it comes off in pieces, it presents a sharp edge that can cut the user. We have had three different instances of hand cuts that could have led to accidents as the driver attempts to keep blood from the cut from getting on clothing, car interior, etc. The dealer replaced a door handle, at my cost, on the first instance. Subsequently we have tried to remove the rest of the plating from the effected parts. Unfortunately, the remaining fragments still adhere well to the parts for now and degrade slowly. I fully expect to sustain similar injuries in the future as the deterioration continues.

18 Parking Brake problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/31/2002

When I press on my brakes it makes a loud popping noise. I took it to the Honda dealership and they said theres nothing they can do about it because theres some kind of defect that causes the brake pads to shift. The technicians told me that many people have complained but since they do not know how to fix it they can not do anything for me. So basically I'm stuck with my car making the popping noise because Honda does not know how to fix the problem. I am very unsatisfied with Honda and the performance of my car. My car is a 2001 Honda Civic. I have had it for two years and I have had two recalls on it and just recently my car has been making a popping noise when I turn my steering wheel or press on the brakes. I have taken my car to the dealership three times with in the past week and every time I pick up my car they tell me the noise is gone. I drive it off the lot only to find out the noise is still there. My car is currently at the dealership and they are still trying to figure out why my car is making the popping noise when I turn the steering wheel and the last time I dropped it off they told me that there was nothing that they could do about the brakes. I find it very disturbing to know that my cars brake pads are shifting and Honda will not fix the problem simply because they do not know how. I do not want to be traveling down the freeway and my brakes fail because Honda did not feel that it was important to address this problem earlier. I would be very grateful if you could look int this issue and contact me back with some informaion. Thankyou.
