While driving on the highway at 70mph, the engine rpm rapidly increased with no acceleration. The driver was able to cross 4 lanes and get to the shoulder safely. Multiple warning lights came on to include: check engine, check transmission, power steering, hill start, and tpms. The car would not shift gears other than park or neutral. The engine would respond normally when the pedal was pressed but was not engaged by the drive train. The car was towed to a Honda dealer that found the transmission drive pulley had broken requiring a totally new transmission. Nhtsa recall number 15v574000 was referenced but Honda would not accept it for coverage or as a causal issue. Service department members at the dealer admitted that that recalled issue was at fault for what happened to the vehicle. Honda recall still refused that the car was not affected by the issue listed in 15v574000 as it was not tied to the VIN in the Honda database. I was driving on I-84 home from college and the car made a loud click sound, at which point I lost all drive. The car began decelerating and I was forced to pull over to the highway shoulder while cars around me were traveling at highway speeds. I was in fear for my life. The car engine runs fine, but does not move in any gear. The issue has been diagnosed as a transmission failure. I had to pay to get the car towed 80 miles to my home, and now must also face the cost of replacing the transmission (tow bill attached). My car is only at 110k miles and has always been serviced at the appropriate time. The transmission should not be failing, let alone abruptly while driving. There appears to have been a transmission recall for Honda fit and Civic 2014-2015, but my VIN was not recalled. (campaign number 15v574000) this needs to be investigated by the NHTSA immediately, as it poses a serious concern to driver safety. I have counted over 10 reports of incidents in the last 6 months where owners lost all acceleration while driving. I have listed the NHTSA id numbers below. Clutch disintegrated without warning. The clutch friction material dislodged, tore into large chunks, and jammed between the pressure plate and flywheel. This caused the clutch petal to drop to the floor and kept the clutch engaged. There was no way to disengage the clutch. There was absolutely no warning before this happened. I had entered the freeway and shifted into 6th gear about 10 miles before I noticed a problem. When traffic slowed in front of me, I tried to shift into 5th gear, but couldn't find the clutch petal -- I finally found the petal was completely depressed, and couldn't get it off the floor. In the process of trying to find the petal, shift into another gear, and stop the vehicle, I almost ran into the car in front of me. Up to this time when I tried to shift into 5th, everything appeared to be acting normally. Clutch has never been abused during its entire life.

My son was driving and in the middle of a 5 way intersection car would not shift into gear. My car is a manual transmission car made lound rubbing noise. Car was towed to Honda dealer. I was told in was a complete transmission failor and need a new transmission and clutch. I contacted Honda warrenties I baught the car as a certified used Honda. It had 100000 mi warrenty which I was past. Honda advise it was 3900. 00 if fix and agreed to pay 1300. In reading all the complaints about the 2007 year I feel they should have paid more. Since owning the car I have received notices from Honda about engine leakage problem and that engine is covered for 10years, also rear control arms, and I just received in mail a class action law suite about premature break ware. At around 70000 I had to replace motor mounts that was covered by my extended warrenty. I also had to replace the rear drum brakes at 90000. I have always driven a manual transmission car I have never had to replace a clutch every and keep most cars for over 150000 mi. And drum brakes should never have gone at 90000. I have to say very dissapointed with Honda and from reading other complaints on your site there is problem with transmissions on this year.

3rd gear failure in transmission. Gear blew out the bottom and top casing of the transmission and destroyed the entire thing. Had to have it completely rebuilt (almost $3000). This was determined to be a mechanical failure. Prior to this, I noticed the 3rd gear was sticking/failing to shift properly and had the transmission checked and flushed. This only appeared to have masked the issue. After driving for about 30 minutes, there was a loud noise and the speedometer jumped to 0. The car wouldn't move, had to be towed (additional $100) and the repair had to be made. For anyone with 3rd gear issues - please have this checked ASAP and prevent yourself the extreme expense I had! it appears as if, after searching online, several people are having this issue. . .

My husband was driving the car, tried to turned left, and the car suddenly would not engage in any gear. The car could not be driven further, was towed to a repair shop, and the transmission was replaced.
Transmission failed while driving on highway at 60mph. Car would not shift into gear and check engine light signaled. There were no warnings whatsoever. This appears to be correlated to many others complaints with the 2001 Honda Civics. I was fortunate to not have been seriously hurt when my car came to a stop. I feel as though this is a defect that needs to be recalled.
I had a crack through my transmission gear from the inside diameter all of the way out and 75% fractured from one side of that cog cylinder to the other. I replaced part # 23451-pdm-a00 and 23531-p24-j00 at a cost of $2241. 75 at the shop and another $261. 93 in car rental fees. The failure was first checked in at the shop on 9/14/2010 at 60,715 miles but it was cracked and making the noise since approximately 55,000 miles. Shop manager told me he had not seen a gear crack like mine had in 15 years and especially at 60,000 miles and that there was no question it had been a manufactures defect.

I was driving to chicago for a wedding. Went to pass another vehicle on I-55 and when I pushed on the gas pedal the engine revved but the transmission did not catch. Let off the gas and it eventually reengaged. Continued driving and it went downhill from there to the point where the engine was working fine but the transmission would not engage in any gear. Managed to get the car to my destination, but could very easily been stranded in 0 degree weather. Had the car towed and it looks like I need a new transmission. The current mileage of my car is 140k. Went online and discovered that there are hundreds if not thousands of folks who have had the same problem. Honda it seems is aware of the problem but no recall has been issued.

2002 Honda Civic (automatic) transmission failed in 2009 with 72k miles. The car stopped in the middle of the road all of a sudden and would not go into any gear. There were no indicators prior to this which is why it was very dangerous. Transmission was rebuilt and seemed ok for a few months. The transmission light came on again and for taking in to be repaired. It is now 2010, 99k miles and the transmission light is on yet again and the car sounds rough when its idling or moving. Honda refuses to assist with any of the cost. This will be the 3rd time in less than 2 years.

My car's automatic transmission blew Monday night without warning. It had been revving up on its own without me accelerating. It is only a 2002 Honda Civic lx with 87,000 miles on it. I keep it in good shape. I was driving east bound on madison Ave. Just passing manzinita in sacramento California when out of no where my car would not change gears and would not go over 20 miles an hour. No check engine lights came on or anything. I had no warning. I finally got it to my daycare 20 minutes after it blew and then the check engine light came on. I bought my 2002 Honda Civic in 2004 from the original owner and it had about 55,000 miles. It now has 95,000 and the transmission has completely gone out. It will not go into any gear and left me stranded on the street needing a tow to get home. The first estimate for a replacement transmission was $2700. I may end up selling the car at a reduced price just to try and get rid of it. The car was regularly serviced and driven relatively low miles, as I live only 5 miles from my place of work. Until this problem, I had no issues with the car.
I started to feel the transmission slipping little by little and it just got worst from there to the point that the transmission just gave way. It just revs and does not shift into gears it will be more or less than about $1,500 to 2,000 to fix the problem. Wish they could had made a recall about this on my 2002 Honda Civic ex.
Late April/early may of 2008, I noticed that my 2001 Civic was not shifting gears properly. When I tried to accelerate out of a parking lot into traffic, the car's engine was revving up, but I did not gain speed, therefore almost causing a major accident because I could not accelerate to the speed of traffic. The mileage on the car was around 75,000 at that time. Almost a year after paying for the replacement transmission, I have noticed that there are a lot of people with the same issue. I've tried talking to Honda about it, but they refused to accept that their transmissions are faulty. The more I try talking to them, the more excuses they bring up to not compensate for the replaced transmission.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Civic. In an attempt to drive the vehicle, the contact placed his key into the ignition and started the vehicle, but it would not shift into gear. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the clutch and sink rolls failed. The clutch and the sink rolls were replaced. Approximately one month later, while driving 60 mph in fifth gear, the vehicle slipped into neutral four times. The dealer then replaced the manual transmission. The current mileage was 85,560 and failure mileage was 83,813.
Car slipping out of gear or not going into gear. Motor revving but the car would not move and then all of a sudden catch and jump forward. Put car into reverse and motor revs when given gas but not moving. Had to put car back in park and then reverse again. Took car to dealer and was shocked to find out the transmission had to be replaced. Dealer initially said it would be $2,700. 00 then called back and said they would do it for $1,200. 00. After seeing many complaints about the same thing I contacted american Honda and was told I was getting a great deal for $1,200. 00. I do not feel that a Honda I purchased new in 2001 with 69,000 miles on it should have a total transmission failure and then be told it is not Honda's responsibility.
2007 Honda Civic si (5,000 miles on car). The six speed manual transmission has a problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It sometimes will not go into gear or will pop out of 3rd. This creates a very serious safety issue as you may not be able to avoid an oncoming car. The Honda dealership keeps saying that they are not aware of the problem. Look on the internet and you will have hundreds of complaints of the very same thing on this model car.

Since day of purchase noticed third gear popping. Thought being new car could not be a problem. It is now 6 months later. Called service at Honda dealership. They admit transmission fix will be coming out in 2008, but only certain VIN#'s are covered. Transmission first started to shift hard, than car would remain at same speed without giving any gas and would not slow down when brakes were applied. Within the same week the transmission started slipping and on the way home from having the repair estimated the transmission completely went, almost causing a very serious accident as my car would not change into gear leaving me in the middle of oncoming traffic. Repairs were estimated at over $2,000 plus labor and no guarantees that another transmission for my vehicle would not have the same problems.
On the expressway the car would not go out of 1st gear then would not shift gears at all, it was less than 2 years old. It had to be towed and the transmission replaced. It was a Honda Civic ex 2003 from rick rousche Honda.

Transmission problem detected and confirmed by gresham Honda. Seems to be a major problem for 1997 Honda Civic owners. Honda acknowleged premature tranny failure and offered to pay half for replacement. Car was given back to me while part is being ordered and while driving today from a stop light on a hill car would not go into gear and started to slip backwards. Luckily by flooring it I was able to prevent backwards slide into vehilce behind me but feel someone needs to contact Honda and start a recall on this model for a complete transmission replacement. In my case they have agreed to cover half of the repair cost to install a remanufactured transmission but I am not satisfied with this offer and feel you could be looking at many more accidents and possible injuries by the sudden jerking from stop while car tries to go into gear. Please research this immediately and prevent thousands of people from being injured by this known defect that is not being addressed correctly.
