2 Warnings problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/10/2025

The collision mitigation braking system consistently detects objects in the road and forcibly brakes when the road ahead of me is completely empty. This has happened 4 or 5 times just in the last year. The first time it happened I was driving on a completely empty road when the cmbs activated and kept slamming on the brakes until I pulled over and restarted the entire car. I don't always have to restart the car every time, but if it ever happens on a busy road it will cause an accident. The dealership refuses to inspect the system or try to recreate the problem despite the fact that there was a class-action suit against Honda for this exact cmbs malfunction in several other models. They just tell me to manually turn it off every time I get in the car. I am human and sometimes I forget, so this is not a solution. I'm afraid that this buggy "safety" system is going to get me and my child killed one of these days. I am happy to have the system inspected, but it doesn't keep a log of every time it activates so there's no real way to verify the false positives, and it happens randomly so it's very hard to recreate.

7 Warnings problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/12/2024

I bought my car from Honda Civic on colerain avenue cincinnati ohio in 2023. In December 2024 I started having issue with my driver assistant technologies. My driver assistant technologies lights started flashing . As they were flashing none of my assistant technologies were working. When they finally went off it gave me a message to call the dealer. Which I did immediately. They told me to bring my vehicle in and they would check it. Service department calibrated the camera on the windshield. Picked my vehicle up about a month and a half after it happened again. Brought my vehicle in for the second time to the service department. Picked my [xxx] up for the second time. About a month and a half to two months and happen again. Vehicle in for the third time. They stated that it was a windshield that I had replaced by someone outside of Honda. They said I had to have my windshield replaced and also the camera by them. It cost me $1,000 for the windshield the camera was not charged to me. At this point it was like a guessing game. Picking my vehicle up for the third time. 2 months after picking it up the third time it did it again on [xxx]. I am looking for another Honda dealer to take it to to see if they could figure out what it's going on with that. I have all of my receipts. They can't seem to fix it at Honda Civic on colerain. I was told that if they couldn't fix that I would have to keep my vehicle as is. This is a safety hazard all I'm asking for is to have my vehicle and working condition. That is not happening. 8 Warnings problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

When driving, if the sunlight is just right casting shadows in front of the car from trees, or while traveling down a divided highway passing 18 wheelers (mainly in the evening), the shadow created causes a false alarm on the collision avoidance system causing it to react by hard deceleration. This is also accompanied by the audible brake alert coming across the gauge cluster. While at highway speeds, it can really startle you and possibly cause you to be rear ended due to the sudden and unneed braking. You have to get hard on the accelerator in order to overcome the computer trying to slow you down. There is a recall on other Honda vehicles for this exact thing, and it needs to be expanded to the Civic as it suffers from the same problem. The approximate date section only contains 1 date, but yet it has happened numerous times.

9 Warnings problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/20/2024

I was driving at highway speeds, randomly all brake system warning lights come on. All adas systems are inop, epb is inop, my brake pedal would get soft intermittently while braking. Multiple dtc’s were stored every visit. I was almost in multiple accidents because of this issue. It took over 6 visit to local Hondas dealer to get this issue fixed. All they would say “OH the codes don’t mean there is a problem” Honda is not warranting their cars. I contacted corporate and they did not care.

I was getting on the interstate when all of a sudden the collision mitigation assist and lane keeping assist pop up on my dashboard. It was a very scary moment.

11 Warnings problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/29/2024

While driving on a city street at about 25 to 30 mph with no cars or people in front of me and on a clear day, my Civic's collision mitigation braking system flashed "brakes" on my heads up display and at the same time, it forcefully applied the brakes without me touching the brake pedal. This has happened to me at least twice in six weeks. In both instances, I tried to press on the gas pedal, but it did not let up on the brakes right away. I was nearly rear-ended by other cars both times, putting me and others at risk. I took the car to the dealership, and they told me they couldn't find any issues or codes, nor could they replicate the problem.

13 Warnings problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/30/2023

A lot of times the warning collision on dash will flash to “brake” when going through caution lights usually around fire stations and also approaching steel bridges… I don’t know if it sees the steel deck and thinks it’s a car, but whenever I get in my car, I deactivate the automatic emergency braking system because I don’t want it to automatically brake for me like it’s done in the past.

Car will display brake on the dashboard, and automatically brake without an object in front of vehicle, causing vehicles to have to slam on their brakes to avoid collision. Has happen multiple times. Dealership was unable to replicate the problem as it is very unpredictable and does not have any consistency as to when it happens.

18 Warnings problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

Rodents chewed thru the main computer cable while car was parked in our car port. When I went to start car it started but immediatley the warning lights on dash began flashing that the road assist features, brakes and steering were not operating. Called road side assistance for a tow to arrowhead Honda were they replaced main computer cable and reprogrammed computer. This is the second time this has happened. I think the manufacture should change the exterior coating on the cable should be changed to a material that rodents are not attracted to.

19 Warnings problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/17/2022

Forward collision warning and braking has falsely activated with no vehicles ahead of car. First, "brake" warning flashed for no reason while driving on a three lane road on virginia rt 286 and rt 50 interchange. Second, driving in right lane, vehicle ahead was taking exit and was clear of my path, car flashed brake warning, then started braking. Third, while using adaptive cruise control (acc) on highway, a passing car changed lanes into my lane. Due to distance, a car length, and smaller speed difference, emergency brakes activated. However, if a passing car operating at a faster speed (>5 mph est. ) the car won't brake. The third problem is annoying as it creates an unsafe situation for people following too close (which they should not). Additionally, my brain is processing the situation faster than the Honda sense can, Honda needs to expand their recall from accord, cr-v, and pilot to all vehicles with Honda sense.

20 Warnings problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

I was driving through an intersection, the car ahead of me was turning right and I was behind them with plenty of distance. They turned right and I followed straight. However my emergency braking system decided the car was very close, and better yet after it had already turned, decided I was about to have a collision with nobody in front of me and stopped my car in the middle of the intersection, while the light turned red. I desperately got my car to go, after abruptly stopping for no reason, but safe to say I was shaken up a bit and turned that off. Happened today of this complaint 8/5/2022. And it’s happened before on curvy roads, once where my car came to a abrupt stop and other times false alarms to “brake”.

21 Warnings problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

22 Warnings problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/02/2022

I was driving at 75mph in adaptive cruise control. The closest car in front or beside me was at least 1/4 mile away. The weather was perfect, no rain, wind, etc. Just sunshine. Without notice, the car automatically braked, the brake light showed up in the dash. The braking period lasted about two seconds during which time inertia slammed me forward. Fortunately there were no cars immediately in back of me or I no doubt probably would have been rear-ended. I did not step on the brake pedal or the gas pedal during this period. My vehicle is scheduled to be at the dealers service center in 6 days but with all the intermittent issues I am having with this vehicle, I am sure they will say they cannot replicate the problem. My assumption is that the forward collision system intermittently axctivated.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the forward collision avoidance system would inadvertently activate intermittently without a vehicle nearby. 24 Warnings problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/17/2021

On multiple occasions, the collision mitigation braking system has had false-positive detections. There is one section of road where this occurs extremely frequently (maybe 20% of the time I drive through). On this section of road, it will not activate the brakes, it only beeps and displays "brake" on the instrument cluster, but is extremely disconcerting and distracting. On another occasion on a different road, there was clear road ahead of me when the collision mitigation braking system had a false detection, and did activate the brakes and was incredibly close to causing a collision with a car driving behind me. On this same stretch of road, ive had this occur two other times (out of hundreds I've driven on it), but no one was behind me and would not have caused an accident. In both of these spots, the road is fairly straight and the speed limit is 40 mph. This hasn't been inspected by a dealer. This hasn't been inspected by Honda, the police, or insurance. There were no prior warnings to this issue occurring.

25 Warnings problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/11/2021

Most recently, driving along on a sunny day at about 45 mph on a flat road. No other vehicles on the road in sight. The collision warning system beeped and flashed the warning on the dash. At the same time the system engaged the brakes momentarily before disengaging. The braking lowered my speed to about 30-35 mph. The only conclusion I could reach was that the system mistook the shadow of a tree for an object but I have no way to know. This has happened before when taking an exit ramp from a highway when the collision warning flashed and the system engaged the brakes momentarily, dropping my speed somewhat, before disengaging. In both cases, I do not know why the system disengaged, though I am glad it did as other vehicles approached from behind soon after.

26 Warnings problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/02/2021

On Friday, April 2nd, I was driving home on the 710 fwy on the far left lane. I was driving around 75mph and there was an object on the ground which looked like an empty potato chip bag, it wasn't anything that would have done any damage to my car but my Honda sense's collision mitigation braking system activated for no reason and alerted me to brake and started applying pressure. I had no reason to stop so I had to swerve into the shoulder lane to prevent my car from braking unexpectedly which could have resulted into a deadly collision if there was a car close behind me. I have footage of the video and requested this to be looked into because if this is a faulty sensory issue, I would like it corrected immediately to prevent further issues. I do not want this to happen again because this incident was very dangerous when I did not have control of my own vehicle and it tried to override my command to keep driving straight.
