3 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

Purchased vehicle new in March of 2008. In October of 2010 an ima battery update was required by manufacturer. Since the update I have taken the vehicle back to the dealer on a monthly basis for almost a year with the following problems, they of course can not get the vehicle to do everything that it does to me and the dealer always tells me it is operating within manufacturers standards. I have given up taking it in every month and now just take it in for its routine maintenance, I give them a printout of my concerns and the tech attaches it to the workorder. A) low fuel mileage, averages 25 to 28 mpg. Before ima update, was averaging 35 to 45 mpg. B) slow acceleration from stops, this is very dangerous because we never know if the vehicle is going to move or not. We must leave ourselves alot of space when trying to merge with traffic because of this. C) idles rough, off & on, while stopped or parked, this is using up gas because the ima battery does not come on as much as it used to. D) assist is not coming on as much as it used to, if at all. E) ima battery reading goes from 1-2 bars upto 8 or so in minutes and then back down to 1-2 bars within a minute or less. Usually reads about 1-2 bars most of time. Ima is charging itself on flat ground, up hills, down hills and when braking. I would trade the vehicle in for another, but am afraid that some other sucker would end up with something that is not operating correctly. I did purchase the extended warranty on this vehicle.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/02/2010

Bought car in may 2006, by Aug 2006 I was only getting 36 miles per gallon. Brought car to dealer. They said they replaced a part to fix problem. Problem not fixed! brought car back 3 more times and dealer said I was driving the car wrong. I told them to keep the car for a week, they did but still could not get the mileage over 37 mpg. They told us they didn't know what the problem was and there was nothing they could do about it. Went through 3 back tires on drivers side. They still wouldn't do anything about it! I had to pay for it! the car was getting worse and worse. Finally we took it to another dealer. They found that something was broken by the back tire (which is why I had to keep replacing them) and I needed a new transmission. All of that was covered under warranty. That was in September 2010. They also told me that's why I never got the mileage I was supposed to get. That was when they told me that I needed to get the software update!! now my car is not drivable! the battery doesn't charge, the car cant accelerate! the service manager and the foreman told Honda America that the car is not safe and Honda America doesn't care! I filed a claim and I was told that there is no problem with the car. I just need to get used to driving it differently! when I pressed them and told them my car is now undrivable, I was told that they had nothing else to say to me! Honda really messed this one up! people are going to get killed driving these cars. . . . And they know it! my car was a lemon since the day I bought it! paid $5,000. 00 extra for it , never got the mpg, and now I cant drive it!.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

In August 2010 I took my 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid to the dealer for routine maintenance. The dealer performed a purported software update on the battery system without notifying me until afterwards. Immediately upon leaving the dealer, I noticed a profound reduction in power and acceleration. On the freeway portion of the drive home, I was almost rear-ended twice as I drove in the slow lane up a minor grade where the vehicle could not accelerate over 40 miles per hour (with the pedal fully depressed in the passing gear)-- prior to this date I had driven my vehicle for its prior 20 months of ownership up that same grade at 70mph. Additionally, prior to this date I had never even utilized the "s" gear on my transmission. Ever since Honda's software update my car has become a severely underpowered accident waiting to happen. I am reduced to driving in the slow lane on the freeway with vehicles flashing me as they approach a 40-45 mph vehicle at 60-70 mph from behind. I have called the Honda service departments at several local dealers regarding this problem, and get a universal response- "wait for your system to adjust to the software update" or "you need to adjust your driving". What the heck does this mean? I drove the vehicle fine for 20 months prior to the software update and now it drives like a 20 year old 4 cylinder engine with 2 bad pistons. The decreased power and acceleration are a dangerous accident in the making. I am fearful of being rear ended. This is an every day problem that was caused by this "software update" and I suspect that it is happening to every 2006-2008 Honda Civic Hybrid that goes to the dealer for this software update. An additional consequence of this alleged "software update" is a profound drop in gas mileage from approximately 37 combined mpg prior to "update" to 29-30 post "update". I have never lodged a complaint with any organization before, but like I've previously stated, this "update" is a danger to the public.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

Upon receiving the 'mandatory' ima recall issued by Honda, I noticed my Honda Civic Hybrid (2008) acted very differently when it came to accelerating from a stop, particularly on a hill. From a stop it takes several seconds before the car will move forward at a reasonable speed (which it did not do prior to the update). Prior to the update, the car would accelerate like a normal car with the ima kicking in to assist the car forward. Post update it's like the gas engine wants the ima to engage but the new firmware won't allow it to. The first time I experienced this, I was nearly hit coming out into traffic as my car hesitated. Honda has stated there is no way to reverse the update. This decrease in power continues to affect me today (at 60,000 miles and climbing). This update has affected my fuel economy as well (having dropped between 30-33 mpg on a "good" day). While the fuel economy may not be a personal safety issue, it is an environmental safety issue.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

Honda has performed a software update on my 2006 Civic Hybrid. The results are tantamount to having replaced my car with another that has markedly inferior response, performance, and gas mileage: * about 10 mpg decrease since the 8/4/2010 ima software update * rare iva assist on starting from 0, resulting in a noticeable lag between depressing the gas pedal and movement from a stopped position - this is a safety issue. * responsiveness of acceleration at highway speeds inconsistent and unpredictable - since this affects driver reaction and responsiveness this is a safety issue note: the software update renders the electric motor practically moot. Since in my case the battery drops its charge radically over a 24 hour period if not used, the update appears to be doing little more than preventing an already compromised battery from failing.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

We purchased a 2003 Honda chc in 2006 with approximately 34,000 miles. As of January 2010, the car has 155,010 miles. From the date of purchase, there has been a shudder when decelerating from 40+ mph. We have only taken the car to our local Honda dealership for repair and maintenance and have been repeatedly told that there is nothing wrong with the car and that shudder is from an "overload". Taking the service department at their word, we have never had any repair work done to remove the shudder or taken the car to another dealer. Over time the shudder has gotten worse. We have also experienced a hesitation when accelerating and then the car will suddenly lurch forward when it hits gear. Again, we were told that there wasn't anything wrong with the car and that we should expect hesitation when the car is switching from battery power to engine power. About 4 months ago, the check engine light came on and we were told that the catalytic converter was in need of replacement. We were given two options-immediate repair or drive until the catalytic converter completely fails. Recently the ima light came on and we took the car for diagnosis. The response was that the battery pack needed to be replaced. In addition, we were told that the transmission is beginning to fail. To replace the cvt transmission, battery pack and catalytic converter will cost approximately $7,500. As I have read the other complaints not only from this site, but also other sites on the internet, I now suspect that we have been experiencing transmission problems all along. We have had several other Honda vehicles. We purchased this vehicle because of the reliability we have come to expect from Honda. $7,500 or more in repairs is unreasonable for any car under 8 years old, especially a Honda.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

I am the owner of a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid living in los angeles, California so I'm sure you are already aware of what this is regarding. Starting in the winter of 2009, I noticed that my mileage was beginning to drop and that the acceleration of my vehicle was diminishing significantly. Before this problem started, I was averaging around 45 miles per gallon but this has since diminished to around 34. I got the car checked out repeatedly and they put some sort of update on my battery and told me nothing was wrong but then there was an article about this problem in the los angeles times. Honda then offered another software update to "fix" the problem but I have heard nothing but negative things about it. A friend of mine who has the exact same make and model as me got this new update and nothing at all changed and he is still getting a check emissions system warning on his dashboard. I don't know who else I should be contacting about this issue but I hope to find out whatever I can to help get whatever could be done to get some sort of a recall on this car in motion. It is insulting what Honda is putting us through and is making me seriously consider abandoning the Honda mark forever.

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

The ima system on the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid is slowly disintegrating. The fuel economy has plummeted and the battery crashes intermittently rendering the car a highway menace. I doubt that driving the car without the ima is legal in any state. It is a recipe for death and disaster. I urge a complete investigation into american Honda who won't even admit that there is a problem. If that were the case, they would not have developed pcms (computer patches ) in an attempt to deal with this issue.

11 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

I tracked my Honda Civic Hybrid gas mileage. From 12/09 to 1/10 my average gas mileage was 40. 2mpg. Took my car into Honda dealership for recall work in spring of 2010. They told me that there was a software update on the engine/battery. I asked if there would be any affect on the car's performance. The dealership response was that without the update I would risk voiding the warranty on my car battery/engine. So I had to get the update. From that date I continued to track my gas mileage. From that point onward my gas mileage has averaged 30. 9mpg. I called the dealership to ask if they could set the software back to the way it was previously. They said no. They insisted that it was my driving habits that had changed. . . . When nothing in my life changed so this could not be the case.

12 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/28/2008

2003 Civic Hybrid throw p1491 code for clogged egr. Honda has issued a warranty extension for the same code for the odyssey, but won't acknowledge the same problem with the hybrid. I can't find the dealer service bulletin details for the root cause of the problem with the odyssey.

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Catalytic converter failure 73,860 miles my car needed the first catalytic converter replaced, covered under warranty 93,807 miles my car needed the second catalytic converter replaced, Honda helped with cost 113654 miles, my cars check engine light came on with the same diagnostic code p1420, dealer did software update and said everything was fine. 118,000 miles, my car is back in the shop needing a new catalytic converter all this work performed at dealer something must be wrong, causing catalytic converter failure.
