My son purchased this vehicle from an individual at a dealership. Drove the car home with no problems, the check engine light was on and the seller did tell him there was an issue with the ima battery, but that it didn't keep from driving it. Didn't crank the car for 2 days. When we put the 10 day tag to get inspection done it wouldn't start. Took the 12 v battery out got it tested and showed bad battery. Replaced the battery, drove around and it died the steering stopped, the lights started flickering and it wouldn't restart. We took the new battery out got it recharged but are unable to drive it more than 10 miles without it flooding power and finally leaving stranded. If it was a standard vehicle I would say it was the alternate but this car doesn't have that. The ima battery needs to be replaced and without it the car is trash. What can we do with this car? I can't sell it, that wouldn't be right. The man who sold this car to my son was wrong in doing so.
It shows a problem on booster control module first, and then abs control module problem was followed in a month after fixing first one. I am second owner and bought it 2 years ago. There has not been problem at north carolina, but after moving here peoria IL where is colder in winter here 2 years ago, "checking brake system followed by checking abs, power steering, ima etc" about 5 checking signs showed on the panel. The mechanic said it was booster control module problem. After he replacing it, there was no problem for a week. And then when I drive slippery ground surface in a rain, and slipped a little, the same symptom with continuous working moter on abs assembly showed off. Even when the key out, the moter was still working so that there is no electrical power left due to discharging in the morning. The mechanic said that it is abs control module problem so that he is fixing it now.
"takata recall" 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid with ima and engine lights went off. No charge to battery cause the car to malfunctions. Such as electrical steering wheel stop working. Engine lost power and stop while driving on city street at stop side. I changed new diehard 12v battery and also checked and verified the ima battery is good (each cell above 7 volts). I think the car need to update software from Honda. Please help us for the recall to update software. Many people have the same problem and they post their story on youtube.
Vehicle moving in traffic on freeway, all power lost not able to move and involved in accident. Chp report pending. Air bags did not deploy.
On 8-14-15 noticed right headlight out; may have been out before that. Shop replaced it on 8-14-15. It went out again within a few days. Noticed it only later again. Was able to return to shop 3/14/16; no ticket was done. Honda guy put hand behind light and said "the connector wasn't turned all the way. " light went out again within a few days. After talking to manager, dropped it off 5/23/16, manager arrived later; he and other staff denied light was out when they took the car. The light was back on (they must have done something. ) the light stayed on only for one day. Next day light was out again. Once it's out, it stays out until a workman does something to bring it back on. Without this light, I can't pass state inspection; moreover, it is dangerous to drive on rainy days or at night because cars don't see the passenger side of my car. Honda put the light on and made me pass the inspection, but their remedy is only temporary. Why doesn't Honda fix this problem? why do they tell me it's been on when they got the car, when I know it's been out? I do not want to return to the shop if all they do is lie and not fix the problem. I need to see if this problem is related to the 2007 recall on Civic Hybrids for "DC-DC converter diode". This failure will cause the headlights to turn off, among other more risky things, as the problem develops. I did not ask them about this specific recall, but Honda denied that there is any recall for this situation. Perhaps they do not want to go through the trouble of replacing the voltage converter free of charge. Other lights have been going out and been replaced repeatedly since Aug. 2015, as my receipts show. But this headlight is not staying on when they put it on. On 5-23-16 when they last turned the headlight back on, I drove it all day and it was on. But on another day, not sure when, it was out and has stayed out.
First incident occurred around a month after purchased 3 of 2011. Door locks would lock & unlock while driving. Immediately took it back to norm reeves Honda in cerritos,CA. I was told that the problem was a bad motor in the passenger door & norm reeves fixed the problem. I was told the drivers side window was defected & norm reeves replaced the window. In 4 of 2011, the car door locks began locking & unlocking while driving but now making a screeching sound. Took the car back to the same norm reeves & they explained it was the motor in the passenger rear door. That was fixed as well. In 6 of 2011, again the door locks started locking & unlocking while driving. I then realized the rear drivers side door was not locking & took it in to norm reeve where they stated the motor was out & they fixed it. I then asked if maybe it could be something electrical & if they could check the electrical wiring on the car, I was told by octavio, service manager at norm reeves, it was not the electrical that it was the door locks. I told the service manager, octavio at this time I felt like the car also gives a push or skip while driving & also smelled a burning smell. Octavio stated the Honda was checked by a tech & said nothing was wrong with it. I began taking the Honda civic in to norm reeves every month complaining about the car skipping or losing traction. It was frightening driving down hills thinking my car would not stop or lose control. The burning smell would become greater when driving up an incline or the hills of any freeway or city. When the car would be parked at an incline the shifter would lock & become hard to remove from park. During each visit to norma reeves Honda, which occurred more than 10 times, I was never told of any recalls or examinations needed in regards to the fuel tank problems & only found out when my Honda civic was taken to rock Honda of fontana, CA.
The failure is a software defect, which causes the engine to stop running at random, unpredictable times, under unpredictable conditions. It has occurred four times with my vehicle, and luckily, not in dangerous circumstances. The only way to restart the engine is to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, put it in park, turn off the key completely, wait a minute, then turn the ignition to start. If it were to occur in traffic, as on the interstate, this would be a very dangerous situation. I have taken the car to the dealer for this problem, who says he cannot address it because he cannot observe it occurring, he also says that the problem is the responsibility of Honda corp, since it is a design issue.
1. After normal 30k mileage service and tire rotation/balancing 5/23/2009, with highway handling car shook extremely and wobbled at speeds 60 and above, pulls to the right going downhill. 2. Problem remains with 2008 hybrid past 35k, reproducible at highway speeds (60mph-70 mph, 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm) going on straight stretch and downhill. Front of car pulling sideways is reproducible in rain or when breaking going down low/medium grade hill. 8/18, the problem continues to occur, is a safety concern when on highway, especially going downhill or on straight stretch. 3. Reported to dealer, went in for check, dealer contacted warranty and replaced transmission fluid. Problem still occurs, dealer recommends change front tires now as tires rippled between may 23rd and June 3rd, 2009. Paid for 2 new tires to replace old per dealers recommendation Friday 6/11. Dealer goes through extended warranty to replace transmission 6/11. The problem dissipated 30%,but shaking occurs. Return vehicle to dealer to verify if software updates were made 6/24 after transmission was replaced. Dealer made software update 7/6 received car back and problem showed up within a day. Reported issue. Dealer received Honda recommendation to disconnect egr valve 7/31. Problem reduced by ~20% but still remains at 60mph etc. 8/8 follow-up with concern of driving in rain dealer recommends contacting Honda corporate customer service. Dealer contacts factory rep, whose recommendation is there is nothing further that can be done. There was no inspection made for any joint/bolt/belt slippage etc. Honda customer service contacted dealer and factory representative and stated nothing else can be done 8/18 as f. Rep has closed the case, cannot override f. Rep, and does not have statistics to confirm either way whether the problem exists in other 2008 hybrids with similar mileage. Dealer is unaware of the root of shaking/steering problem (software/d/drivetrain/cooling/exhaust just a worn belt loose bolt etc. ).
