I had the Honda dealership perform the ima software 'upgrade' in 2010 as part of the recall for this vehicle to further extend the life of the ima battery. Since that time, the ima battery has failed twice. First in Jan 2012. This battery was replaced under the extended warranty for this part provided by Honda when they initially identified the issue with the ima battery. The second failure occurred a short 3-years later. Each time, the vehicle loses all ability to accelerate and creates an unsafe situation when trying to merge or perform turns when acceleration is needed. Even though the ima battery was only 3-years old at the time of this second failure, Honda is not covering the full cost of repair. The ima software 'upgrade' has done nothing to address the failure rate of the ima battery and creates an unsafe situation when acceleration in unexpectedly lost due to drastic power fluctuations.

Recall was not notified , I have three time accident and none of the time my air bag popup to save glass or anything, address was wrong in dealer's database many tiem corrected but its still mixup no notice received until see in the news, in vendor invoice meter show 160000 in real its 139685 their computer show more in invoice where my warranty denied , 3 time transmission fail paid by us, 2 time big battery fail cost me 4500+4800 like new car, dealer told me its will cover and I end up paying all due to their error , scam in meter and its show only 32/gal it was show 48/gal program change recently.

Ever since new, the hybrid system is unreliable. If the hybrid battery charge is below 1/2, which is often, the battery assist does not come on when accelerating. There is heavy traffic where I live and I have to enter a divided roadway from a side road. I often find myself nearly hit by oncoming traffic when the hybrid system doesn't kick in. Now that the car is older, the problem is much worse. In the past I could predict when the hybrid system was likely not to provide the acceleration assist needed to safely enter the highway and wait for a longer break in traffic. Now the charge indicator will be 100% one minute and showing only two bars out of about 12 then next second. I don't feel I can safely drive the car any more. My wife's car is a Toyota prius hybrid and it always has consistent acceleration. Her 2006 vehicle runs just as good as it did when it was new. Consumer reports says that 0. 1 percent of Toyota priuses 2010 year model need battery replacements, but 32% of Honda Civic Hybrids do. Clearly there is a design or manufacturing defect with the Civic Hybrid. If I lived in California or a dozen other states, my battery warrantee would be extended to 150,000 miles or 10 years. Here in maryland, it is only 8 years or 80,000 miles.

The car was shuddering when accelerating after a stop. It needed the cvt clutch in the transmission replaced. This is an issue that many owners of 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid have reported and Honda refuses to recall the part. There is a defect in the building of the cvt transmissions and Honda won't accept responsibility.
On 12/11/14, approximately 11:00 a. M. , I started my 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid and allowed it to warm up for a couple minutes due to cold weather (approximately 25 degrees f). I then drove through the parking lot, stopped at the stop sign, turned right, onto the highway and began to accelerate. The acceleration did not feel normal so I released my foot from the accelerator at about 20 to 25 miles per hour however the accelerator stayed in place and would not release. I held my foot on the brake to try to reduce speed however the accelerator continued to stick. I briefly tried pressing on the accelerator and shaking it with my foot to release it however it continued to stick and was not helping at all. The car was gaining too much speed so I went back to holding the brake. I held the brake while reaching my phone to call 911 and planned to report the situation, notify them I was about to put the vehicle in neutral or park, and that there was an infant in the vehicle. At this point, it had been occurring for a little over a mile and as I was unlocking my phone, the accelerator finally released. It slightly stuck a little more off and on briefly but did finally fully release at approximately 55 miles per hour. I turned off the highway, and as I was preparing to pull over at a safe location, the accelerator stuck again. Again, I held the brake and after a few moments, the accelerator released and I was able to stop the car without further incident. I do not feel safe ever getting behind the wheel of this car again.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that there was a fuel odor present in the vehicle before and after refueling. The contact stated that the I. M. A and engine warning lights intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
When the car becomes low on gas you receive a low gas notification via the indicator (icon on the left side of the dash) and a notification via the information screen, which you can acknowledge and while the indicator stays on (normal) you can clear the information screen (and audible beeps) and have the information screen go back to showing the odometer or some other information. This was the status on my 2012 hybrid until ~90 days ago. When the vehicle now receives a low gas warning (verbal beep and low gas screen on the information screen) I acknowledge the error and clear the information screen so it goes back to showing odometer, etc. But while continuing to drive the system will activate the low gas warning (beep and screen) continuously (I. E. , 25 or more times in 10 mile period) similar to a seat belt warning. This have never happened in 2 years of previous ownership. Honda service people believe this is normal and that every Honda has this "feature" but they will not show me in any other car. Nobody would buy a car with this knowledge.
In 2007 a Honda dealership conducted upgrades to my 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid computer system without my consent. It was in the dealership for recall notices. Immediately my gas milage went from 52mpg to 26mpg. The dealership refused to correct the problem. The dealership said the upgrade to the computer system should not have diminished the mpg. 2012 the transmission went out in the car, I got the run around by the dealership on why the transmission went out. I was misdirected by a transmission company that said they could rebuild my transmission. The Honda dealership had to step in to track down issues with the new transmission. Honda refused to accept responsibility for bad transmission parts. 2013 the ima and check engine lights are on. I am unable to register my vehicle due to the ima and check engine light disqualify my car from passing a smog test. The 2007 computer system upgrade caused my ima system to malfunction for years by not holding a charge causing low mpg. Now the ima/battery pack is malfunctioning to the point it has to be replaced. Honda refuses to accept the responsibility of their mistakes and fix my ima system.

A friend was driving us back home on the highway at speeds of 55-65 miles per hour, getting on an off ramps. She is an experienced driver and it was the first time she had driven my car. She told me that the steering wheel was very wobbly, the car was shaking and she felt she had no control over the vehicle; she had trouble steering. I had several incidents after that when I had start-up/judder vibration and extreme grinding when accelerating from a stop. It felt like the car was slipping out of gear. Honda determined the cvt transmission was bad; it was classified as slip/judder in Honda's service bulletins 07-049 and 07-050 but I never received a recall notice. Honda paid 50% of the cost of replacing the clutch in September 2013 but the severe acceleration/slipping problems continued and within a week of having the clutch replaced I sold the car. I had bought it used with 28k miles on it; I sold it when it had 41k miles (I had driven it only 12k miles in six years and took a big loss on the sale). I was afraid I would have a terrible accident in it as it was absolutely unsafe. When I told Honda I was still having these problems after the clutch replacement they told me to take it back to the dealer again; this had been four months of dealing with cvt transmission problems and I had spent enormous amounts of time on trying to fix a known Civic Hybrid defect so I traded in the car.
The hybrid battery and charging system is not working properly. It is constantly fluctuating. This is after the various software updates. I have also seen a significant drop in mpg by more than 20% this is since the software updates and the ima system not working correctly. I have reviewed the 49 other complaints showing in the NHTSA system and all but 3 refer to the same or similar problems which I'm encountering. The other interesting fact is that unless the ima light comes on Honda appears to be refusing to take action. It is curious that in a number of the cases the light came on Honda did their software update and then the light doesn't seem to come on any longer even though individuals continue to report the same issues, just no light, coincidence I think not, its amazing what a few tweaks in software code can accomplish to reduce Honda's liability an keep the ima system light from coming on. It is my hope that someone at NHTSA will actually read these complaints and follow up. It is also my hope that something will get done by NHTSA before all of our warranties of 8 years or 80,000 miles expire and Honda says that a replace battery is our cost not theirs because they were able to drag this out. They have designed a bad system and they are taking actions to avoid having to do anything about it!!!!!!!!!.

Flashing ignition "immobilizer" light - system code "c-1": with low battery voltage, or a disconnected or "dead" battery, vehicle cannot be started, either by "jump starting" or replacing the 12v car battery. This is due to a defect, in all "j VIN" Civic Hybrids, on the micu board located in the under-dash fuse relay box. Defect results in the electronic key codes being lost with low or no 12v ignition system voltage. The only remedy is to have the car towed to an authorized Honda dealer to have all keys (car comes with 3 sets of keys) reprogrammed to the ignition immobilizer system. Only a Honda dealer can perform this operation. Because of this defect, vehicle operator and any passengers can be left stranded and in an unsafe position. The only remedy is to have the car towed to a dealer, if available, to have the immobilizer system reprogrammed. Honda will not allow any other service provider to perform this operation because of security and vehicle theft concerns. Depending on the circumstances of the immobilizer failure, this can be a life threatening safety issue for the vehicle operator, depending on where and when the failure occurs. In addition, routine maintenance or repairs requiring the vehicle battery to be disconnected, will result in an inoperable vehicle and require that the vehicle car keys be reprogrammed, something that would be totally unrelated to the planned maintenance or repair and the key reprogramming would have to be done at only a Honda dealer.
Since the Honda ima reprogram my battery pack no longer holds a charge. It is dead every morning. It will build a charge through my 35mi commute, but the charge holds for only a limited amount of time once I exit the highway and utilize surface streets requiring stop and go travel. After sitting a few hours, the battery pack is dead again. The battery pack has died numerous times upon quick acceleration such as entry to a highway. This is unsafe as the vehicle loses its capability to accelerate without the ima. I have taken the car to the local dealer who kept the car for 2 days to test it. They confirmed that the battery pack does not hold a charge, recharges slowly and drains quickly. However they stated that although it was under the warranty period, they would not and could not replace the battery pack due to the lack of a system code or dummy light illumiating. This lack of action by Honda for this common fault in their ima system is unacceptable. When the car was new and the ima system worked, I recieved the mpg as promised and then some. Since the update and the failure of the battery pack, I no longer recieve the epa stated mpg. I basically have a normal civic with hybrid badges. I have been a Honda devoted owner since 1997. This will be my last Honda.
Ima for engine is in degraded state. Told the batteries are failing and need to be replaced. However, car is supposed to be under warranty until 80,000 miles, now @85,428. Problem with the ima batteries is a known problem, yet Honda does nothing to resolve issues with multiple ima issues. Google Honda Civic Hybrid ima battery 2004. '08 Honda Civic Hybrid experiencing a dramatic decrease in fuel economy. Ima battery suspected. Dealership upgraded software (as per Honda recall) and told me that to get better mpg's I should shut off my heater (we live in wisconsin!) and recommended an air filter change. I stated that an air filter and shutting off the heat would not increase my mpg's from 28-31 back up to it's prior performance range of 40-50. Vehicle is still dramatically underperforming. Note: service advisor @ bergstrom Honda admitted that in his 4 years there that he has seen many Civic Hybrids with severe tire cupping (I previously filed complaints on this issue also, vehicle is going on it's 3rd set of tires within 57,927 miles!) and also mentioned the poor performance after the Honda software upgrades to fix the ima issues. It is my belief that Honda is well aware of the ima issues and is trying to hide them under the software update (to save replacing "x" number of expensive hybrid batterys). I believe that as owners we have lost valuable lifespan on these batterys and that we have lost out on a good portion of our hybrid battery warranty coverage due to Honda's design.
2007 Honda hybrid, purchased new on 05/26/2007 at ed morse Honda in riviera beach florida. Listing of auto problems dealer made aware of since purchase: /27/2007 left front window regulator failed: under warranty/replaced /01/2009 ima (hybrid battery) indicator begins to drop to on bar, acceleration feels rough. Inspected but found no problems, yet auto still had same problems until it failed. /10/2010 ima(hybrid battery) and engine light on, battery drops to no indication bars. Dealer reprogrammed internal software, under warranty /27/2010 left front window fell in, unable to operate, out of use until repaired (had to replace window and regulator, but window not broken, dealer insisted had to replace both). Charge $431. 68, dealer states no longer under warranty, yet same window had failed on 12/27/2007. /26/2010 ima (hybrid battery) software updated again, had been done 07/10/2010. Still under warranty. /09/2010 ima failed (hybrid battery) and engine light on. Dealer replaced ima battery, under warranty. First reported concern to dealer 05/01/2009. Two updates to software attempts unsuccessful. Recall documented by Honda. //18/2010 left front wheel bearing failure. Charged $48. 69 to diagnose. Dealer asking about $400. 00 to repair. Unable to afford dealer cost, repaired elsewhere. Have learned there may be a recall on same issue NHTSA #: 07v399000. /15/2011 gas cap door lever failed. Unable to open gas cap door to pump gas. Mechanism broke that has cable traveling from driver’s seat to gas cap door. Had to dismantle component from within the trunk to open. I was at a gas station when this happened at night. Dealer is not open at this time. Very concerned with car's multiple function failures. Non of which have been caused by driver. As can be noted, the items that have failed could all lead to emergency situations. Have all receipts to verify the above. Need help. Please.

Over the last year I have notice reduced surge power when I hit the accelerator for when I need extra, short term speed (e. G. , merging onto a highway). When I floor the gas pedal, I do not get any "assist" from my ima (hybrid motor), as viewed by the ima meter on my dash and felt in terms of actual increase in power/speed. This is exacerbated when the air conditioning is on. Further, I have noticed a reduction in fuel economy as well and think that this may be associated with the overall issue. The lack of "assist" is not all of the time, but once in a while and a noticeable difference in acceleration capabilities.
I bought a new 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid from a certified Honda dealership. The design flaw of the rear tire arms of the vehicle caused the tire arm to rub on the tires of the car until the tires were nearly bald causing the car to shutter and the structure of the tires to weaken endangering me and my passengers. When I took the car to Honda, I was forced to replace the tires prematurely 2 times since owning the car due to the irregular wear on the tires. Honda did not notify me of the problem, refused to pay for new tires but finally admitted after the second pair of tires were rubbed bald, that the tire arm of the car was causing damage to the tires. They repaired the tire arm, but would not pay for new tires. The transmission of the car is also flawed in design. Occasionally when accelerating, the gas pedal of the car can be pushed to the floor and the car will not continue to accelerate and will loose power. This has happened at stop lights, entering the freeway, and going up hills endangering my life and the lives of my passengers. Honda again, did not notify me of the problem, but told me when I brought the car in after experiencing the problems that I needed an upgrade to my computer and that those upgrades may fix the problem. Those updates to the computers effect the battery of the hybrid part of the car's engine. Those batteries are loosing the ability to hold a charge and causing the transmission to fail because the car relies on that battery power to run the engine. The gas mileage of the car has also been steadily declining. When the car was new, it got 45 mpg and Honda advertised it get 50 mpg, the car now gets around 33 mpg. The computer updates are changing the way the car runs off of gas and battery power and Honda is not replacing the faulty batteries. This has endangered my life and the lives of my passengers because the faulty batteries effect how the car operates.
The integrated motor assist (ima) system on my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid has been malfunctioning on a daily basis since the weather has been greater than 90 degrees this year. The system behaves erratically without warning, causing an extreme decrease in the hybrid motor battery charge and overall vehicle power at unexpected times. This loss of power causes a significant change in the anticipated performance of the vehicle, including the lack of sufficient power to overtake a vehicle (pass) or to maintain a safe speed relative to other cars when on an incline, without a significant increase in the gas engine rpm. Additionally, the ability to accelerate from a stop at a comparable rate to other vehicles is not possible without the assistance of the ima, causing unexpected backups of traffic behind my vehicle. At times (intermittent problem) the regenerative charging system seems to be fighting with the vehicles acceleration when coming to a stop. This causes random changes in the braking power and the resultant brake pressure required on the brake pedal. This results in small and unexpected power/accelerating surges when coming to a stop, which compromises the ability to safely judge the distance and speed at which to begin applying the brake in anticipation of an upcoming stop.
Car would not start due to low battery charge. Cause is unknown. After battery jump, the ima system of the Honda Civic Hybrid did not function. Ima yellow caution light and green drive light (flashing) were on and off. I was told to drive it for 45 minutes to recharge. This was dangerous as there was a lack of power. At rest, the car and steering nearly shuts down! the car is at the dealer. They are having problems diagnosing the problem. The dealer indicated that 21 error codes came on and that they are contacting Honda. This is a serious safety hazard!.
I currently am the lessee of a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid starting this January, the hybrid battery charge level goes from almost full (8-10 out of 10 bars) to virtually zero (1 bar) every other week (the technical term for this is a "recall" or recalibrating). This summer, it started happening every 3-4 days, and whenever I had the a/c on. Then, it started to happen every 100 miles (which made it very predictable). The problem is that when in the 'recall' state, the car is almost unresponsive and does not accelerate much, if at all. This poses a safety hazard especially when making left turns when the oncoming traffic has a blind spot, or is coming around a corner. It also impacts fuel efficiency substantially. I have seen about a 7 mile-per-gallon drop in fuel economy. I took the car to the dealer who told me that there were no codes in the system but there were 3 software updates, so they installed those and that if I still had the problem, to come back. I still have the problem so I schedule the appointment and I take the mechanic for a test drive and he sees the charge drop rapidly and states that it's completely normal. I argue that is happens too often and he still says "it's fine. " about 3 weeks later the ima light and 'check engine' light come on. Turns out, it was a blown fuse (for the a/c electric drive, fuse #22) so they replace it, and tell me that they checked the current draw on the a/c just to be safe and claimed everything was fine. Now, about 2 weeks later, every time I start the car it does a recall. This is beyond annoying and now I'm starting to see drops of about 10 mpg because of this problem, as opposed to the previous 6 or 7. I'm thinking that Honda knows that their nimh battery cells are prone to premature failure and will not do anything to fix the issue.
I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. For the past six or so months sometimes when I attempt to accelerate after a stop or after slowing down the ima battery indicator will drop to 1 or no bars within a second or two. While this is happening and for at least 1 minute afterward I have almost no power and can barely accelerate. The loss of power is so bad that I have narrowly avoided crashes. This happens randomly, but more and more frequently. When it does happen, my mpg also drops quite a bit. Since it is impossible to predict it makes driving very hazardous. I have also noticed that the car is not going into auto-stop as often as it should be. I have taken the car to two Honda dealerships and both have said that they can't "duplicate" the problem and that no "codes" are coming up. The first dealership did nothing. The second one, which was where the car was purchased "reset the computer" but nothing else. The car has been given back to me both times and the problem has continued.
Bearing failure in cvt transmission, leading to severe vibration and if not repaired to transmission failure cost for repairing replacement to customer $1700 . In my vehicle is bearing has been replaced 3 times in 130,000 miles well following factors recommendations of changing transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. Also hundred hybrid battery system has a flaw hybrid batteries are only guaranteed for 80,000 miles for the first battery and 24,000 miles for replacement batteries at the cost of $2700. Well Toyota guarantees their batteries for 150,000 miles. I have replaced the battery packs three times in 130,000 miles.
Cvt transmission problems, egr valve problems, oxygen sensor and catalytic converter problems, all items had to be replaced over the last 2 years-most recent catalytic converter.
First we were told we'd get 49mpg city 51 highway which never came close, then they put a chip in our car and our gas mileage took a real tumbull but worse it also took away they ability to accelerate fast. Getting on to the highway and trying to pass cars can be very dangerous.
Every time I start my Honda Civic Hybrid from 2004 it shudders. I have spent more then the value of the car on repairs and fluid replacements which Honda does not deem necessary to pay for. This car is a dangerous lemon. It sometimes shudders going onto highways and can even just stop before starting up again. I have had near accidents dozens of times because of this faulty car. Honda made a bad car and even though people complain about it they will not issue a recall. Each time they issue a warranty bonus to try to fix the problem the whole thing either gets worse or slightly better for 1000 miles. I feel like I'm dealing with a no good used car salesmen trying to bate and switch a hybrid. But this car was bought direct from Honda. There needs to be accountability. I guarantee you that all users of 2003-04 Honda's would be a part of this case as it is a pervasive issue among the majority of hch users. We are all angry, we all asked Honda for help and we got no response. We are now looking to governmental intervention. Please help us avoid accidents, lemon cars, and misleading advertisement.
