takata recall the electric power steering locks up at random time when the car is already in motion; it is very random. I could not get it fixed because if the car is not acting up when getting a diagnostic test, the dealership could not tell me the problem. It first start happening in June 2018. It stopped for months and now is messing again out of no where.

3 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

My son purchased this vehicle from an individual at a dealership. Drove the car home with no problems, the check engine light was on and the seller did tell him there was an issue with the ima battery, but that it didn't keep from driving it. Didn't crank the car for 2 days. When we put the 10 day tag to get inspection done it wouldn't start. Took the 12 v battery out got it tested and showed bad battery. Replaced the battery, drove around and it died the steering stopped, the lights started flickering and it wouldn't restart. We took the new battery out got it recharged but are unable to drive it more than 10 miles without it flooding power and finally leaving stranded. If it was a standard vehicle I would say it was the alternate but this car doesn't have that. The ima battery needs to be replaced and without it the car is trash. What can we do with this car? I can't sell it, that wouldn't be right. The man who sold this car to my son was wrong in doing so.

4 Steering problem of the 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Vehicle was in motion on a curvy street, in lane that goes straight when another vehicle moved abruptly from left turn lane into my lane. When I saw this I knew I would hit it as there was insufficient space to brake before impact.

6 Steering problem of the 2013 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

Undocumented vehicle maintenance that may degrade safety feature. Purchased vehicle because it included fcw (forward collision warning) and ldw (lane departure warning) safety features. Have learned that as part of a four-wheel alignment, calibration of these systems is required. This is not documented\disclosed in the owner's manual or product literature. Concern -- how much will these systems be degraded or made inoperable by tire wear and/or wheel misalignment? this wheel alignment with calibration can only be accomplished at a Honda dealership due to special equipment. No indication is provided of system out-of-calibration warning on the dashboard system function/status lights.

7 Steering problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Because of manufacturer error - the upper control arms are making the tires wear out fast and unever. Rear tires have toe - out appearance. There was a class action suit that expired in February. Elderly couple who bought car new, did not know that there was an issue - I was told by Honda that the free repair from the class action suit was no longer available. My car kas 82ooo miles on it and it should be fixed for free, because the probably started at the factory.

10 Steering problem of the 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/16/2013

A friend was driving us back home on the highway at speeds of 55-65 miles per hour, getting on an off ramps. She is an experienced driver and it was the first time she had driven my car. She told me that the steering wheel was very wobbly, the car was shaking and she felt she had no control over the vehicle; she had trouble steering. I had several incidents after that when I had start-up/judder vibration and extreme grinding when accelerating from a stop. It felt like the car was slipping out of gear. Honda determined the cvt transmission was bad; it was classified as slip/judder in Honda's service bulletins 07-049 and 07-050 but I never received a recall notice. Honda paid 50% of the cost of replacing the clutch in September 2013 but the severe acceleration/slipping problems continued and within a week of having the clutch replaced I sold the car. I had bought it used with 28k miles on it; I sold it when it had 41k miles (I had driven it only 12k miles in six years and took a big loss on the sale). I was afraid I would have a terrible accident in it as it was absolutely unsafe. When I told Honda I was still having these problems after the clutch replacement they told me to take it back to the dealer again; this had been four months of dealing with cvt transmission problems and I had spent enormous amounts of time on trying to fix a known Civic Hybrid defect so I traded in the car.

11 Steering problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

The rear axle has been making a loud humming noise at speeds of (50-55 mph). Tires are very badly cupped in the rear, despite being relatively new. Cupped tires cause a dangerous situation when driving. The car seems unstable on tight turns, as well as high speeds. Tire cupping happened despite having new tires and a wheel alignment done when they were put in. This is a problem of every Honda civic 06-08 owner I have encountered, and there is plenty of evidence on online forums to confirm this information. Honda needs to issue a recall on the rear camber arms of the civic 07, as they cause dangerous premature tire wear that may cause, or in the least contribute to, injury or death.

12 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact was driving 34 mph as the vehicle exhibited an abnormal clunking noise. The contact suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. He sustained cracked ribs and several bruises as a result. A police report was filed. The contact had not called the manufacturer in regards to the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unsure as to what caused the crash. The failure mileage was 78,000. Updated 4/01/bf updated 04/06/11.

13 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/31/2010

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The power steering does not activate when the car is started. This happens anywhere one to three times per month. Normally restarting the car will correct the problem, but a few times it has taken as many as 12 attempts before it engages.

14 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

On at least four occasions, once while moving at about 30 mph, the entire car shut down. The gas engine shut off, power steering and brakes went dead, and the dash went blank. I had to place the car in park, and then remove and reinsert the key in order to restart. This has happened once, though not while moving, since the ima software update.

15 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid and on occasion the power steering goes out if you restart the car sometimes it comes back on sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries the other day the power steering shut off while driving, making it very difficult to steer. I have found others who have the same problem on line and I am wandering why this is not a recall issue. As of yet I have not fixed anything because the part I think I need is around $800.

16 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/03/2008

On Wednesday, September 3, 2008, I began my drive to work and all of a sudden the steering wheel locked on me (no movement whatsoever) while I was driving 35 mph! luckily, I was on a side street and able to stop the car even though I could not turn the steering wheel. I was about to turn onto a highway! my car is a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The car was towed to a Honda dealer who informed me that the electrical system for the steering wheel needed to be replaced and that they would have to order the part. What scares me is the thought of what would have happened if I was on the highway and my steering wheel locked while traveling at a high speed. To me, this situation has the potential of being on par with the danger and fatalities incurred by owners of Ford explorers some years ago (e. G. , tires). I think it would be very important to see if other owners of 2006 Honda Civic Hybrids had similar problems with their steering wheels locking up while driving and whether there have been major fatalities/accidents as a result. If there is a problem, them Honda should issue a major recall to fix the problem.

17 Steering problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/06/2008

On multiple occassions at different speeds and different times during the day, weather, terrain, location, the power steering will randomly go out on the car. The most recent was on 9/4 when I was driving on 1-5. I am taking it to dealer tomorrow. I have researched this and see that many Honda civic hybid owners are complaining of the same thing.

18 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/27/2008

Steering locks up from time to time. It has happened 2 times. Approx. 12 months ago & then again 4-27-2008. Comes and goes. Concerned it will cause a crash. I check on Honda websight and no recalls. Phone interview update (sept. 8, 2008): mr. Bitker said that he did not notice anything unusual prior to the steering locking up. The steering lockup lasted about 2 to 3 seconds each time during which he could not turn the steering wheel. Once it occurred at highway speed. The engine was still running when the steering lockup had occurred. The dealer did not find any fault code stored in the vehicle computer and could not tell mr. Bitker what was wrong.

19 Steering problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/26/2006

On my way to work, after normal driving for 2 miles, the vehicle lost it's power steering. I was just entering the freeway, so I got off on the next exit and took it directly to the dealership. One of the idiot lights on the panel would intermittently flash for a split second but would not remain on. The dealership was only a mile away. I parked the vehicle and waited for my turn. I turned the vehicle back on to move it forward and voila, the steering problem was gone. I explained to the tech all that had transpired. He turned the ignition and pointed to an idiot light and asked me if that was the one I had seen. I said yes because it looked very much like it. I left the car there for their testing. They called me later that afternoon and said they could find nothing wrong and also there were no error codes that registered. They told me to bring it back if it happened again.
