Was driving on the freeway when suddenly my car engine shuts off. There is still power too the car but the speed odometer doesn't work, along with whatever is used to monitor the milage I have traveled. I have to switch it too low gear in order too keep it going or the car stops even when im going 65. It has happened now multiple times and when shifted into park it won't shift out of park for several hours. I have to disconnect the battery terminals too reset the codes because if I don't ill end up sitting in my car several hours before I can start moving again. The lights that illuminate are the brake system, check engine light, and ima system all amber. If I didnt act as I did this time it would have been like the first time where I actually did stop on the freeway causing for a traffic jam, not only was that embarrassing it was also scary being stuck in the furtherest left lane with no shoulder on the left side too pull off the freeway and all the cars speeding at 65 mph or more by me .

Cvt transmission violently shakes at speeds 0-10 and causes auto stop to engage at all times extremely dangerous when driving through congested traffic on the highway. It performs poorly when in motion in any street or highway when driving very slow or after accelerating at a stoplight.

In the last two weeks I've had two instances where I was attempting to make a left turn at a green light and had to yield to oncoming traffic. However, when the next oncoming vehicle appeared to be far enough away and at a safe distance, I attempted to accelerate and make the turn and my hybrid system a. K. A. Honda's ima (integrated motor assist) would randomly fail to engage, leaving me with almost no acceleration power. It felt like I was driving a lawnmower. The engine would rev up, but the vehicle would not proportionately accelerate. The vehicle is almost impossible to drive uphill in downtown tacoma, wa as it starts rolling back even with accelerator pedal depressed all the way down. I contacted the dealership and was told that although there was a sb-10051509-6014 issued for my specific model, which in effect extended the warranty and my VIN fell under the specified criteria, it was cancelled due to a salvage branded title (a fact I didn't not notice until after I had purchased the vehicle from a private party). This isn't simply a warranty issue. This is in effect a safety issue as the driver is unable to remedy the situation in an emergency. The risk is significantly increased by the fact that the driver making the left turn is facing oncoming traffic which is coming towards the vehicle in full speed. Should a child be present in the rear seat, if the driver is unable to complete the left turn and vacate the intersection in time, the collision could prove fatal, especially since the hybrid battery pack and the high voltage wires are all connected right behind the rear seat.

When driving at 50mph on a national highway 95s heading to philadelphia around 11am,the speed of the car suddenly reduce to 20mph and then stalled and stopped moving. I had to pull aside to check the engine. After some thirty minutes of rest,I had to return home with an idea of getting the car checked by the dealer. The dealer reorted of having no problem in the engine and I had to take the car back and running as carefully as possible without using for a long trip. I had some dents due to other driver with rash driving and hitting the car. I need to get the dents fixed as soon as the present winter season turns feasible for easy running.

On June 5th I was driving in motion on van ness Ave in san francisco California and suddenly I was not able to accellerate to keep up with the speed of traffic and started slowing down unable to continue. Traffic was stop-and go. People swerved around me causing issue. I managed to turn the car off and on again, and pulled over to the side. I restarted the car again and was able to slowly accellerate bringing it into the Honda dealership just 3 blocks away at market and van ness. This was Sunday. On Monday they called me and assured that the vehicle had been "fixed" due to a software bug. They said that this happens all the time and it will be fixed with this update. They also said my battery need replacing and they charged me to replace the battery. It seemed to be ok for the last few months - but then the same thing happened to me again this past weekend while I was driving home. Turning on and off the car fixed it such that I was able to drive the last 8 blocks home. I'm no longer feeling safe to drive my car.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that there was a progressing failure with the ima battery, the vehicle was slow to pick up speed and the low beams failed to illuminate as the failures progressed. In addition, the ima warning light flashed and then the service engine light. One mechanic provided testing and a second mechanic also inspected and diagnosed the failures but was unable to provide a repair solution. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was to be contacted to determine if they may be able to provide a repair solution to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Dyd.
Honda Civic Hybrid 2006 couldn't run suddenly, even though I pressed accelerator fully. It was when I drove about 30 miles. About 5 kilometers previous from the incident, it became to hard to run gradually, for example, the reaction of the engine became later then it couldn't run only 15 mph, even though I pressed accelerator fully. Finally, my car stopped on the beach blvd.
I bought this car off of a private seller few months ago when the car was around 99000 miles, used it to commute from and to work (6 miles drive), and couple of road trips from boston to rhode island. The car was working perfectly fine, I was really happy with it, until last week when the car started to startle when I come to a complete stop and hit the gas again. I just figured its time for an oil change so I took it in to meineke but the jitter would not go away, the guy from meineke told me it could be a motor problem. So I took the car to a mechanic and they said its the starter clutch. I did some digging around on the different forums and figured out this is a very common problem for first gen hch. I was actually surprised by the amount of complaints I was able to find on edmunds, kbb, autraders, and cars. Com knowing how reliable Hondas usually are (I personally drove two Hondas before, and never had any problems). Seeing the amount of complaints, why isn't there a recall being issued for this dilemma. Honda should really try to fix this issue, or loyal customers such as myself would start to walk.
"vehicle shudder problem" I have been experiencing a jolting/shuddering issue with my vehicle since I purchased it in 2013. When accelerating from a stop position, the vehicle shudders with the steering vibrating before moving. On a snowing or raining day, some skidding occurs which has the potential to cause safety issues. It appears that there has been recalls in some asian countries, I would encourage similar recall in north America from Honda. I called Honda customer service @ 1-800-999-1009 this morning, and was informed there is no shudder recall at this time. It would be desirable if the administration could liaise with Honda. We shouldn't really wait until there is fatalities before an action is taken. Let's save lives!.
My son started to turn out of a parking lot, accelerating normally. Car responded by accelerating massively --the rpms shot up to the max (7) and he heard it stutter against the top of the dial. He tried to complete the turn, but skidded into a pole, which caused the airbag to deploy. Car continued to race full speed as it bounced over a parking curb back into the lot. Finally the car stopped when the key was turned off.
Transmission judders/slips when accelerating. Had clutch kit replaced less than 2 years ago and 20,000 miles and same problem is back. Very dangerous when slippage occurs, as car doesn't always move when accelerator is pushed.

The transmission in my Honda Civic Hybrid has had the same shudder/judder issue that many others have experienced. You have to take off extremely slow to keep it to a minimum and it still shakes and judders. It is obvious there is a sever issue with these cvt transmissions and many people are having the same exact issue. My Civic Hybrid started this issue a long time ago and Honda said just change the transmission fluid but that only helps for a small amount of time. Very dangerous going through intersections.
We were driving along the freeway around 8:30 at night at about 70mph in the fast lane when the transmission suddenly stopped working. We had to coast over 3 lanes of traffic to pull into the emergency lane. My husband was driving, I was the passenger, and our 4 month old newborn was in the backseat. It took an hour for us to get a tow and a ride home. All the while I feared for the safety of my family, as it was quickly approaching dark. After some research on the internet, I found that I am no the only one that has encountered such a problem with the '03 Civic Hybrid cvt. Apparently, Honda issued an extended warranty that would cover it for 7 years up to 100k miles. Unfortunately, I just bought this car a year ago, so I am well outside the extended warranty limit. My complaint is that there should be a safety recall on this vehicle. There were no warning signs that this would happen. We were just driving along, and there were no sounds or anything. By not having a recall on these vehicles, Honda put my little family in an extremely dangerous situation.
Car shudders violently during initial acceleration and violently jerks upon deceleration.
I was pulling into a parking space and my car accerlerated and crashed into a stone wall and then went backwards several feet before I was able to brake the air bags did not deploy and the seat belt came loose from the wall. I was taken to the hospital since my chest was hurt from the steering wheel.

A friend was driving us back home on the highway at speeds of 55-65 miles per hour, getting on an off ramps. She is an experienced driver and it was the first time she had driven my car. She told me that the steering wheel was very wobbly, the car was shaking and she felt she had no control over the vehicle; she had trouble steering. I had several incidents after that when I had start-up/judder vibration and extreme grinding when accelerating from a stop. It felt like the car was slipping out of gear. Honda determined the cvt transmission was bad; it was classified as slip/judder in Honda's service bulletins 07-049 and 07-050 but I never received a recall notice. Honda paid 50% of the cost of replacing the clutch in September 2013 but the severe acceleration/slipping problems continued and within a week of having the clutch replaced I sold the car. I had bought it used with 28k miles on it; I sold it when it had 41k miles (I had driven it only 12k miles in six years and took a big loss on the sale). I was afraid I would have a terrible accident in it as it was absolutely unsafe. When I told Honda I was still having these problems after the clutch replacement they told me to take it back to the dealer again; this had been four months of dealing with cvt transmission problems and I had spent enormous amounts of time on trying to fix a known Civic Hybrid defect so I traded in the car.
We where rear ended on the 805 south at e st in san diego CA. The traffic came to a complete stop and a older Ford expedition plowed into us at 55 mph , upon impact the Honda accelerated full throttle with complete loss of brakes , my wife was driving I was front passenger and my handicapped son was r/r , she was able to steer the car to the right shoulder as I slammed the car into park and turned the ignition off at about 40 mph , it took about 100 yards before it came to a stop, the car is at tipton Honda in el cajon and they say that there is no evidence or computer fault code of said problem , how do I put my family back into the car and feel completely safe knowing it might happen again.
1) visors cracked - driver's side does not stay up. 2) hybrid battery light showed it failed - dealership reprogrammed the car fall 2011 and since then the car does not accelerate as well. I have noticed lessened ability to accelerate when merging. 3) two of the doors fail to lock when the car reaches locking speed. One of these is a back seat passenger door where a child sits.

I purchased the car new in December 2007 and was initially pleased. Unfortunately, the performance of the vehicle has decreased significantly, apparently due to a software update installed by Honda on August 2010 (see service bulletin 10-034). Honda states that the software update was intended to extend the life of the hybrid battery but is silent about the obvious adverse impact on gas mileage, power, and emissions. The hybrid integrated motor assist (ima) assist is operating erratically such that when trying to accelerate (e. G. , when merging onto an interstate or passing on a highway) the car may have the expected response or a very limited response from the unassisted 1. 3 liter engine. Just last week when I was merging onto an interstate one time the ima did not provide any assist and I was concerned due to the fast approaching traffic. I never know whether the car will have the expected acceleration. The ima behavior can vary from minute to minute while driving even under the same conditions. Has dot and NHTSA studied a 2007 Civic Hybrid after the software update was applied?.
This occurs on occasion. When the accelerator is depressed the vehicle's acceleration was very slow responding to command. This happened while accelerating from a stop and entered the intersection with oncoming traffic from both sides. The civic was not moving as expected and nearly did not make it to the opposite side of the street before the oncoming cars reached me. Because it happens only occasionally, when it happens it is unexpected and could easily lead to an accident.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while at a complete stop and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was shut off and then restarted causing the vehicle to function as normal. The failure recurred on several occasions. On another occasion while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle failed to respond to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was restarted and it resumed to normal however, the failure recurred on several occasions while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine mount was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be determined, however, the contact was told to change the transmission fluid. The fluid was changed, however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the battery and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. The VIN was not available. Djr.
The battery on my Honda Civic Hybrid has been failing to charge which means my car has no power to move quickly up hills or accelerate when I need to especially as I am merging onto the freeway. There have been numerous dangerous occasions where I may have been the first car at a traffic light, the light will turn green but my car has no power to make it up the hill. There has also been incidents when I am merging onto the freeway but can't get my car to accelerate to an appropriate speed as to not be a danger to the cars already on the freeway. I pray to god that there is not an 18 wheeler approaching behind me in the right lane or the driver would not be able to slow down in time to allow me to merge onto the freeway. There has also been times where my car will not start up immediately in the morning. I have already replaced the starter battery from the Honda dealership that cost me over $200. 00 after their mandatory adjustment on the ima battery. Honda will not replace my ima battery until the light comes on the dashboard. My car is not yet 4 years old but the battery is already a danger to my safety. Something needs to be done before somebody gets killed in their Honda hybrid for failing to accelerate at the appropriate times.

Ever since Honda did a software update on my car's engine to extend the life of the battery, my car has had intermittent accelerations issues. For example, last summer, I was at a stop light and when it turned green, my car didn't seem to want to "go". I had to press on the gas pedal about 3 times to get it to "engage" and actually move. Many times the car is sluggish to start from a stop, or accelerate, but it does "go", just not as promptly and quickly as it should. The most recent incidents occurred last month and has prompted this complaint. Both involved merging onto a freeway. In the first instance, I was in the right lane, which I knew would turn exit only a mile or so down the road. There was a truck on my left, followed by a long line of slow moving cars. So I thought, since the truck was right next to me, I would speed up a little bit and bit and get in front of it. To speed up only fast enough to pass this truck, my car revved to over 6000 rpm. It just didn't want to accelerate normally. I did safely make the lane change in front of the truck; the worst thing that would have happened in this case was getting off at an exit I did not intend to get off at. However, the next day, I was merging onto freeway traffic with a typical lane length to allow merging. My car didn't want to accelerate enough to safely accomplish the merge. I had to rev the engine up to over 5000 rpm just to get up to barely 45 mph to accomplish the merge. I feel it is only a matter of time before I get into an accident because of this acceleration issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that after receiving a software update the vehicle would hesitate and take longer to accelerate up to highway speeds. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 77,000.
Bought this car new. I won't even go into the ridiculous 49/51 mpg window sticker that is a blatant lie but that does play into my complaint as you will see. Honda, after receiving complaints about the battery pack and having problems with it, has this brainstorm to reflash or reprogram the computer/battery pack as part of a recall this past year. This was done at my last oil change. Prior to that time my sole complaint with my car was that the mpg averaged about 35mpg period. Since this last recall and reprogram not only has my fuel economy gone down but the performance of the car is essentially unsafe from a stopped position. Let's face it, the car never was a nascar but on the other side of the coin it was not a golf car either. Now when starting out from a stopped position, whether at a stop light or anywhere and whether the motor has shut off or not, the hybrid is so bogged down that I honestly believe my golf car accelerates better and more quickly. Let's set this straight too. I'm 41 and not trying to drag race I'm merely trying to drive the car in a normal safe manner. At times it feels like the car is going to literally die in the middle of a turn or intersection which can be a bad thing once you commit to a turn and there's a 53 foot 100,000lbs of fun coming in your direction. Honda has gotten away with ignoring my complaints about the hydroplaning of this vehicle, the ridiculously low fuel economy, and now they will likely do the same with their attempt at making their battery last longer which has made the vehicle less safe for me and my wife and kids. This "recall" was nothing more than a battery life extender to protect Honda's wallet. How about replacing everyone's battery once for the life of the car? that'd make sense to me. . . You know. . . The guy that shelled out 24,000. 00 for your car expecting to receive mid to upper 40's in fuel economy. Fix it.
After the 2010 software update from Honda on the ima motor, the acceleration of the car when the ima battery is in the low meter is dangerous. I cannot get enough speed to get on the freeway or have the necessary avoidance in normal everyday traffic.
The car will not resond properly from stopped postion when acceleration is needed.
I bought a new 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid from a certified Honda dealership. The design flaw of the rear tire arms of the vehicle caused the tire arm to rub on the tires of the car until the tires were nearly bald causing the car to shutter and the structure of the tires to weaken endangering me and my passengers. When I took the car to Honda, I was forced to replace the tires prematurely 2 times since owning the car due to the irregular wear on the tires. Honda did not notify me of the problem, refused to pay for new tires but finally admitted after the second pair of tires were rubbed bald, that the tire arm of the car was causing damage to the tires. They repaired the tire arm, but would not pay for new tires. The transmission of the car is also flawed in design. Occasionally when accelerating, the gas pedal of the car can be pushed to the floor and the car will not continue to accelerate and will loose power. This has happened at stop lights, entering the freeway, and going up hills endangering my life and the lives of my passengers. Honda again, did not notify me of the problem, but told me when I brought the car in after experiencing the problems that I needed an upgrade to my computer and that those upgrades may fix the problem. Those updates to the computers effect the battery of the hybrid part of the car's engine. Those batteries are loosing the ability to hold a charge and causing the transmission to fail because the car relies on that battery power to run the engine. The gas mileage of the car has also been steadily declining. When the car was new, it got 45 mpg and Honda advertised it get 50 mpg, the car now gets around 33 mpg. The computer updates are changing the way the car runs off of gas and battery power and Honda is not replacing the faulty batteries. This has endangered my life and the lives of my passengers because the faulty batteries effect how the car operates.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly increased to 7,000 rpms. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection who informed the contact that they were unable to actually explain why it happened. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
I had the software updated in my 07 Civic Hybrid in August 2010. Since the update the car has no electric assist when the battery is half full or less. My battery is in this state at least half of the time and Honda tells me that it is normal and that the lack of power when accelerating is the result of the update. This has made the car feel very unsafe to drive, especially when pulling onto the highway. I was almost rear ended the last week in August pulling on the highway because my car had no pickup as a result of this update.
I received the software update on my 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid on August 27,2010. Immediately after retrieving it, I had problems with acceleration. A safety issue when merging onto highway traffic. The problems have not resolved since then and I am always fearful that one day I will get rear-ended as I merge because the car can't accelerate fast enough.
I have a 2007 Honda 'hybrid'. Recently I received a letter from Honda reference to the batteries. As instructed I went to the dealership and had a new computer chip installed. Problem, my acceleration from start is greatly diminished and my fuel economy has gone down about 3 mpg around town. Please assist. Thankyou.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that there was a loss of acceleration capabilities which occurred after software upgrade. The contact stated that when he was unable to accelerate on any surface unless it was flat and usually within the city limits. The contact called the dealer who offered no assistance. The contact called the manufacturer several times who also offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated while driving up a hill, the vehicle began to hesitate and the rpms increased. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 60,000. Rvk.
I was almost in a serious accident as I went to make a right hand turn, and the car only accelerated at about 1/4 of its normal pace. I had to look down to make sure my foot was on the gas. When this acceleration failure occurred, the battery showed no charge, but it had shown almost a full charge when I first started the car, just a few minutes earlier. My car now cannot hold a charge at all. I park it fully charged, and when I start, it shows fully charged. Within the first mile of driving, it drops to 1 or no bars. It then has trouble accelerating, as the car cannot pull from the ima and it tries to charge the ima, instead of accelerating. This failure is now occurring daily. It is very difficult to drive to work, as I don't know when I can merge onto interstate and if the car will fail. It is usually fine after about 10 miles of driving, but my commute is only 12 miles, so I would say this makes a very large % of my commute dangerous. The service department updated software, but this has not improved the situation at all. I am keeping a journal of these daily activities, as the ima is still under warranty. My gas mileage dropped 20% over the past year, even though I do use ethanol free gas. This was the first indication there was a problem with the ima, but Honda simply gave me the brush off everytime I expressed a concern that this was an early sign that something was wrong.
