1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2006

: the contact stated while getting into the vehicle after been parked for a prolonged period of time, a strong gasoline smell was noticed. Upon visual inspection, a hole was noticed near the back seat, which was located above the gas tank area. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who tested the vehicle to find the failure code reading "auxiliary emission control evaporation, gas leak". The dealership determined the gas tank needed to be replaced. The contact inquired about the physical leak to be shown which never happened. The contact showed the dealership the possibility of the leak coming from the outlet hose from the tank to the fuel pump, which could easily be removed with the finger tips. The manufacturer was contacted, who determined it was an isolate failure, and was not covered by any recall. The contact expressed concern because the failure should be considered as manufacturer defect.
