Hello I’m 81 years old and own a 2008 Honda crv that runs fine. VIN:jhlre46558c004560, but previous owner never went to the recall and I bought the car in 2014 and recently, during a brake job, I first became aware of the problem when my mechanic alerted me to the recall situation and the rusting out that was putting drivers in a very dangerous situation. My car failed the recall because of the rust causing the degradation of the rear suspension trailing arm, and now I'm left with a car not fit to drive? and I would be liable for whatever happens but I was never offered a solution to buy the car back something to help and I cannot be without one to get to dr’s or buy food live rural I have no choice living alone at 81 need a car. So a question, why am I the problem? when, in the first place, the car was dangerous from the manufacturer to the rusting out situation which was actually life threatening, lose steering, the wheel could collapse or the frame itself, and again, never offered any help at all some compensation, nothing? just drive it home with the burden of the liability etc. I’m on a fixed income of only $800 a month how am I to survive living rural without a car at my age? please, I need some help. Why am I being punished when the design itself, as I said, created the dangerous problem and just that's it? appreciate help from someone. Ogostino mancini.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 23v228000 (structure). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact self-inspected the vehicle and noticed that the power steering fluid level was low. The contact filled the power steering fluid reservoir; however, two days later, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the passenger’s side front ball joints were replaced, the power steering kit was installed, and the drive belt was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,500.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the steering wheel would emit a high pitch squeaking noise whenever turning and upon initial l start of the vehicle. There were no warning lights. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that there was a leak causing the rack n pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure had reoccurred approximately 2 months after. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who had not repaired the vehicle a second time due to the repair no longer being covered under warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
While driving my vehicle and making a turn in a residential area the steering wheel got stiff and felt as if the steering wheel locked I was able to turn but very slowly as if the car were in neutral almost felt like idling. I checked my steering fluid level and it was at the proper level so I'm not too sure what is going on but I've been reading up on this issue and find it to be common with this generation of Honda Cr-vs. I will be taking my vehicle to a mechanic to be looked at immediately but feel this is something that should be looked into I have never felt more unsafe driving than when that happened it was a very scary feeling and I am thankful that the speed of traffic was not fast paced otherwise I would have very likely been in an accident.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to a dealer (tameron Honda,1675 montgomery hwy, birmingham, al 35216, (205) 396-3108) for routine maintenance, they indicated that the power steering rack was leaking. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was uncertain if they had provided a campaign to provide a solution to repair the vehicle which was unreasonable for the contact. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000. Dyd.
I was driving my vehicle and suddenly I heard a very high noise from my car. While taking the turn. I take it to the dealer and they diagnose the problem in power steering rack. They told power steering pressure horse is broken at power steering rack so need to replace both. Many time when I accelerate the car, there is some shakes in the power steering also which is due to issue in the power steering. They have told it cost me around $1800 approximately to fix it. Then I check over the internet and found same issue is going on in so many Honda crv. Honda should recall it.
Steering wheel "gave-in" multiple times while accelerating through turns at 15mph or sharp curves at 50-60mph. For example, when turning left, wheel gave-in to the left and grabbed, but wheels did not move with extra movement of the steering wheel, like steering was moving on its own. I took it back to the dealership within a few days of buying it, telling them I had no control of steering around curves or turns. They diagnosed it as a faulty steering rack. After rack replacement, steering is normal. This vehicle only had 90,037 miles.
Front passenger lock jamming. Power steering reservoir bubbling and making a whirring noise.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Cr-v. While driving 30 mph, the power steering made a loud whining noise and became difficult to steer. In addition, power steering fluid sprayed onto the back of the engine compartment. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
We were told by a Honda dealer that the steering rack was leaking and quoted ~ $1280 for the repair. I searched the internet and found this is a wide spread problem with Cr-vs.
Whine in power steering which dealer wants to charge one hour to replace o-ring in power steering line. Many reports of the same problem in Honda cars found online, a tech bulletin issues on some models but not on mine.

This was a recurring failure. The vehicle was driven to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the power steering rack need to be replaced. The vehicle was not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 47,000. Kc.
Bought our 2008 crv, brand new from the dealer. Brought car for routine oil change. Mechanic mentioned that in his years of working there, this is on of the worst leaks he has seen. My car is driven in the suburbs, to pick up kids and no long road trips. We bought a Honda specifically for their craftsmanship and durability and now we have to shell out $2000 for replacement of the steering rack. I think with all the complaints of 2008 crv models about their steering racks, Honda should recall and replace it! I'm afraid that this is a fire hazard and a big safety issue and that something might fail when we are driving. What a big disappointment, Honda.
Due to a faulty steering rack, steering wheel was pulled out of my hands during a right hand turn. No accident due to low speed at time of occurrence, but very frightening. Despite other reported occurrences of this malfunction at low mileages, Honda would not take responsibility.
I bought my 2008 crv used in 2010 and soon after put on 4 new tires. Now it is 2014 and I put on another new set of tires. I wondered why I needed tires so soon, well now I know. I bought 4 new tires and when they tried to do the alignment they told me I needed to buy a camber kit and showed me the picture of the alignment after. They were unable to align the right rear passenger wheel without this added kit. I can't afford this.
The 2008 crv pulls to the right when over 40 mph. There were 2 wheel alignments done recently, and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with the car. When you drive the car and let go of the steering wheel it pulls to the right. It takes constant pressure on the steering wheel to keep the car driving in a straight line. In my opinion this is a safety issue. The dealer says there is nothing wrong. I disagree and will not buy another Honda crv. This is a safety issue.
I put 4 new michelin defender tires on my crv and noticed that the car was pulling to the left which has never occurred before. I went back to discount tire where they changed my left tire and then it pulled to the right. They changed my right tire and the car was now pulling in both directions. Discount then put on 4 new michelin energy saver tires and the car was still pulling. I took the car into the dealership, brakes plus, big o tires, and network auto and received all different kinds of responses but one thing in common. . . . My alignment was fine. Brakes plus told me it was the left bushing which was incorrect. Big o tires told me nothing was wrong with my car. Dealership told me it was the tread pattern of the michelin tires or the toe. Honda recommended that I get bridgestone duelers which I did and the car was still pulling. Went to network auto and they told me it was memory steer and that the strut mounds were binding. Went back to dealership where they decided to fix the strut mounds under warranty after numerous complaints but the car is still pulling. Took the car to the dealership where I bought it from and they told me nothing is wrong and did not drive it on the freeway. I drove 40 miles out of my way to be told nothing is wrong with my car and have it pull right the entire drive home (waste of time and money). I am going to start a new job where I have to drive alot and transport minors in my car and I am very concerned about safety. I did a search in regards to memory steer and many people reported the same complaints for the 2008 crv. This is an issue that is worth looking into because the car could get pulled into oncoming traffic or to the right. So far, no one at the dealership has been helpful and they harass me to buy a new car. If I buy a new one it will not be a Honda due to how I have been treated.
At 16800 miles - vehicle makes squealing noise turning right or left. Dealer found backing plate scraping and wheel nut missing. Bent backing plate so it would not scrape and replaced wheel nut. Alignment issues continue right front wheel gets hot after short drive and has burning smell - mileage now 25000. This type of problem is reported 1000's of times by owners of Honda crvs. When will Honda issue a recall for this?.
After having the car serviced at the dealership (oil change) I went to have the tires rotated. On the drive home the car was pulling to the right very hard and I had to fight to keep the car on the road. Discussed the problem with the tire store and took the car back the next day. After numerous tire rotations nothing fixed the problem and the car was now straying to the left, if I made a left hand turn, on top of pulling to the right, if I made a right hand turn. Neither the dealership or the tire store had ever experienced this, nor did they know what the problem was. Then I had the mechanic, from the dealership, drive the car and he blamed it on the tire pressure being off 5 pounds in the front vs the rear. However, he had the car in service department for 20-25 minutes and I did not see what was done to the car. Then he explaned it was all fixed, it should drive normally and the tire pressure was the problem. The tires are not wearing evenly and I am on my second set. I rotate/balance them when required and keep all receipts. I was also told there was an oil leak in the front crank seal with no explanation as to why. My concern is the with the steering pulling so hard to the right and at issue is safety. The dealership could not explain why it was pulling either direction and blaming it on the tires and air pressure. I don't buy that at all. Now it drives straight down the road and does not pull. But what caused it to do this in the first place? will this happen again? is there a Honda recall and if not why?.
The vehicle drifts to the right. This drift has nothing to do with the crown of the road. It drifts to the right on perfectly flat roads. I thought the wheels needed to be aligned, but after the first wheel alignment (at the Honda dealer in tallahassee) the problem persisted and continued to persist after several more attempts to align the wheels. The dealership consulted with the manufacturer in California and subsequently the right front strut was replaced. That did not solve the problem. The dealership said that both it and the manufacturer were aware of the problem and that it could not be fixed. The dealer called it "memory steer" and said it was a known problem with the 2008 Cr-v. They also mentioned that it might have something to do with being unable to adjust the camber on this vehicle. I've noted numerous similar complaints on the internet. I took the vehicle to the dealer approximately seven times over the course of a couple of months and the problem was not fixed. The vehicle still drifts to the right. It needs to be fixed. (the vehicle mileage is the mileage at the time I purchased this pre-owned vehicle. I purchased it in des moines, iowa and now live in tallahassee, FL. ).
2008 Honda Cr-v will not track straight on the highway at any speed. The car will veer to either the left or the right at all speeds. Four wheel alignments in 27,000 miles (current vehicle total mileage). Four new tires at 25,000 miles (I live in south floirda where the roads are as smooth as glass. . . ). Recent repair resulted in replacement of the steering rack but the problem persists. I will be returning to the dealer again this week but apparently this is a known issue with no fix by Honda. Could be dangerous as the vehicle will not track straight on the highway.
Vehicle began experiencing steering wheel shimmy/vibration at highway speeds (65-80ish) and slight pull to the right. Rotated tires. Had tires balanced. Purchased new tires. All actions did nothing to reduce the vibration/pulling issues.
2008 Honda crv wheel alignment problem. Many others owner in u. S. Have the same problem. . Read more...
2008 Honda Cr-v continues to pull to the right. I had to replace my tires twice each time around 20k miles - the tires were worn unevenly even though I had them rotated 3 times in the past year. Brought into mile high Honda in denver to check alignment, each time they claim nothing is wrong and it is normal to have to replace tires every 20k miles. I also complained that the steering wheel is not straight when driving. I first reported this issue when the car had 9k miles on it. . It has been a year and 1/2 and issue remains. This is a very dangerous defect that for some reason they can not figure out how to fix. The car does not drive straight. Period. I guess they are waiting for someone to get seriously hurt or die before they will admit there is a problem.
I bought my 2008 Honda crv on Aug 29 and within 2 days I realized that car pulls to its right which is very dangerous. On my first attempt of describing this problem to the Honda service department they told me that there is no problem and asked me to drive for atleast 3-4k miles. It is very risky on road as car pulls to right. When I insisted again and again same day, they asked me to leave the car and correct the problem. After 2 days they returned the car but it still pulls to the right. This pull is really scary at high speeds on freeways. I have left my car at dealer service for second time (pull to the right) within first 7 days.
2008 Honda crv lx - steering wheel pulls to the right. I have to fight the steering wheel to keep it in the lane. It is extremely dangerous. It gets out of control and when correcting the wheel, it over-corrects itself and has almost caused a crash. I took it back to the dealers service department. They did an alignment and adjusted the tire pressure. It did not make a difference in the unsafe steering problem. After searching on the internet, I believe this is a serious problem for numerous crv owners.
Honda Cr-v 2008. Five days from date of purchase (new), found that the car pulls to the right. Addressed issue at the dealership. They drove vehicle and said there was nothing wrong with car. Car continues to pull to the right - sever.
Purchased 2008 crv brand new, it came with bridgestone tires. A few months after purchase, I noticed vehicle pulls to right. After rotation, vehicle pulls to left. They also wore out rapidly 20k; needed to be replaced. I contacted Honda dealer. After they conducted alignment check they said you need to contact firestone/bridgestone for tire warranty because of radial pull. Firestone agreed to replace all 4 tires. I just did my first rotation after new set of tires and now vehicle pulls to left. I must put some muscle work on steering wheel to keep vehicle straight. I will be going back to Honda to follow-up. There is an issue with the either the tires or suspension/alignment on this vehicle that Honda needs to address.
My 2008 crv veers to the right. I have to keep fighting the wheel to keep the car straight. Took to dealership twice and did not solve problem.
