1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

The rear left brake on the car is malfunctioning. The car is less than three years old and has average miles, approximately 44,000. Around a week and a half ago, 11. 27. 18 the rear brake starting to make a rubbing sound similar to a low pad. Within two days the sound went from a low rubbing/squeaking sound to a metal on metal grinding sound. When the brake is depressed then released you can still hear the sound of the worn out interior rear left pad rubbing against the rotor. The caliper is not releasing all the way and is malfunctioning. It takes a good 10 seconds until the caliper fully releases from the rotor and for the grinding sound to disappear. The pads themselves on the rest of the car are approximately 75% full. The car was serviced for an oil change on 10. 22. 18 and we were told the brakes are great and everything was working perfectly. The rest of the pads are still in great shape except for the rear left interior pad. This happens when the brake is applied until the car comes to a stop. If braking occurs during driving to slow down but to continue driving the sound occurs and continues after the pedal has been released for about 5-10 seconds. Some times releasing the pedal while driving does not fully release the caliper, it has to be used again until it fully releases.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

Rear rotors rusted, scored and pads frozen in the caliper. $200 to fix. Investigated online and found a very common problem and Honda will not stand behind it. Car is always garaged, has average mileage and average vermont conditions. I have owned many cars with rear discs over the years and have never had this problem, nor have friends I have talked to. Honda attributes the rust to mother nature and therefore not covered by warranty. The obvious conclusion is that it is not where I live, rather the quality of the parts. In other words "defective". Trouble is Honda knows it and will not stand behind them. And the answer is to replace poor quality parts with new poor quality parts? nice racket as long as they can get away with it. Am looking to replace parts myself with quality after market parts at a mechanic's suggestion. Will know the job is done right that way. After all brakes, even the rears, are one of the most important parts of any car. If it was just my crv I could live with that. Problem is it's most likely every one sold in vermont. I'm currently dealing with Honda corporate about this. Getting the run around as I was told I would. After all, brake failure with average miles and under warranty and it's my fault they rusted in place? at 63 years old all I can say is "just when you think you've seen it all. . . . . . . . . . . . . You haven't. ".
