I was driving with my grandchildren in my 2017 Cr-v awd and when I stopped the vehicle I was unable to put the car in park. I could not move the gear shift and then the gear shift knob fell off. I had to call my husband who was able to rig it so that we could put the car in our driveway. I researched online and on this site and see that it is a known problem. I took the car to the dealership today. They stated that it was a recall but that my car VIN was not included in the recall. My car was the first one that they had repaired that was not included in the recall. I had it fixed and paid $82. 96. It is not just the money that upsets me but the fact that I was stuck with no way to put my car in park and that they knew about the problem but had not notified me to get it fixed. I did do an online chat with a Honda rep and am waiting to hear back from them. I only had 28,209 miles on my vehicle. I was not given the old parts after the repair.
The shift lever push button fell off while I was driving the car. Luckily it did not cause an accident to me. Now the car is unusable until repaired.
When driving, the gear shift button fell out. I was able to temporarily continue putting it in to shift gears, but then the internal part crumbled and the gear will not lock/permanently pressed in. Overnight, this caused my car to lose power (battery drain)? will require replacement to be installed; cannot use car in meantime.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while shifting gears, the shifter button detached without warning. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
Uknown. The button on the shifter knob broke when I shifted from park into reverse. I have to reassemble it every time I need to shift.
Entire system failure occurred while driving on a 4-lane interstate at speeds of 70 mph in congested traffic in air temps of 80 f (sunny). Vehicle lost all power both electrical / mechanical for roughly four to five seconds. There was immediate deacceleration and zero power (electrical / mechanical). Driver's immediate response was to remove hands from steering wheel and removed foot from gas in a state of shock/disbelief. Vehicle then restarted itself and resumed function. Driver was put at extreme risk as well as all other drivers / vehicles in surrounding roadway due to the extreme deacceleration with no warning. Incident reported to dealer who stated they had not heard of such an occurrence and requested vehicle be brought in for a $120 diagnostic check. Vehicle purchased new. Mileage at time of incident 20,000.
While driving down the road, the button on the gear shifter popped off. It’s the button you push to move the shifter from park to drive, etc. I pulled over, but could not put the vehicle in park or any other gear. Being already in drive, I drove to hendrick Honda in easley, SC where they quickly put in a new button. It cost about $75. I was told that this is a known problem in 2017 Honda crvs, the plastic attachment breaks and must be replaced. I was told that “there was a recall on some vehicles”, but there was no recall on mine. If there is a known problem affecting the shifting, it should be recalled and repaired. Turning off the vehicle in drive, with no option to use park is not safe. I could use the parking brake, of course. At a minimum, owners should know about the problem and what to do.
44,000 miles all warning lights come on. Dealer says, need new injectors and a pipe. To my knowledge injectors were redesigned. Still coming on but car runs smoot. And very good gas mileage.
Gear shifter button popped out and as a result I could not turn off the car electrical system. I was in a parking lot about to shift from park to drive when it happened. Shifting from park to drive and from drive to park also was very tricky.
Engine oil levels are high due excessive dilution by petroleum. As a result the oil pan is high causing oil leaks. There are new oil drips in my garage every day. I'm sure the engine oil is leaking intermittently when I drive; I also notice oil drips on the ground at work. The oil level continues to be high even with the leaks. Honda dealership confirmed the oil has petroleum in it. Honda also accepts dilution is normal in their cars with this engine, yet the dealership denied any safety concerns with the leak. The dealership simply added a dye and asked that I continue driving and come back for an oil change which will be due in about 3000 miles. The oil mixed with petrol caught on fire when I was smoking in the garage. This is a serious safety concern for everyone that works in their garage, smokes, cooks or has a heat source near it. It can cause fire and death. High chances of engine stalls due to excessive pressure.
Vehicle rolls away in park. At various unspecified times the vehicle fails to maintain the parking gear. First example took place on slightly slanted driveway: when placed into park the vehicle rolled backward (all wheels moving) and owner jumped back in to hit the brake so as to avoid rolling into anyone/anything. Dealership has duplicated the issue many times and appears unable to determine cause.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while reversing into the garage and attempting to stop the vehicle, the button on the gear shift button detached. The contact stated that after some research, she learned that the detaching of the gear shifter button was a common failure. The vehicle was not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
While driving on the highway about 50mph the gear button for shifter came off. Luckily it landed in the cup holder otherwise, I would not be able to put into park once stopped as it would have been still be in drive. I was able to temporarily put it back in place so that I could put into park. Very scary and dangerous while driving home on the highway.
Whenever there is rain or dew most of the cara sensors will malfunction. The brake sensor are all bad, power steering, low oil and low tire pressure. It will happen sometimes while driving and when in park too.
Car was sitting in parking lot and was not able to start and the control panel shows brake hold system problem.
I listed this under power train since I lost power and I don't know what other category would apply. I have no documents except the dealer's report that there was nothing wrong except a weak battery.
Shift lever lock release push-button broke off. Learned this was subject of a service bulletin (19-063) but it's a pretty significant issue as the driver cannot move the shift lever in or out of park/reverse/drive without the button. Should this button have broke off and not been in hand it would have been impossible to move the shift lever into park while the engine was running. Imho this should be a recall item, not just a "product update" as Honda has called it.
I was parking un my job parking lot. When was lunch time y when're my car to eat lunch I tried to start the engine to play music and to turn in the ac . And the message the system is broken appears and the lights where flashing then the car died . Later at the end of the day I call somebody to help me to change the battery but the battery was fine . Was just the car.
Recently replaced battery in summer of 2020. Gave the vehicle in question a jump and upon starting, several warning lights appeared that have to do with some of the Smart vehicle control. Once battery was installed lights went away for a few days. But after a few days, the warning lights have continuously appeared on the dash immediately upon starting. These lights have to do with cruise control, hill start assist, traction control, and all wheel drive. While at first, it was thought the lights were giving a false positive, but now, it is confirmed that the safety features that the lights are indicating are not working posing numerous safety concerns. Honda corporation and Honda dealership have not dealt with or proposed any solutions on the matter. Living in a winter climate, all wheel drive is vital and after a recent snow event, the all wheel drive is not functioning at all posing great safety concern. The lights are on at all times as long as the ignition is on, regardless of stopped or actively moving.
I was unable to move the shifter to change from park to drive. Thi initially happened in a driveway where I was parked. Small pieces of plastic were falling out. I had to use a pen to engage the shifter and then it would move. As I pulled into my street I had major difficulty using reverse even with the pen. I was unable to turn the car off or lock the doors until I dug all the plastic out of the shift device. I read all dealers didn't fix for free so we ordered the part and fixed ourselves.
Shift button popped out of shift handle causing car to not be able to shift into different gears. This occurred while the car was in motion in a parking lot.
Shifter knob broke and fell off gear shifter while in motion upon further investigation I found that Honda had issued a service bulletin 19-063 describing the same exact issue as had happened to our vehicle and it referenced NHTSA #10160912 but the service bulletin is VIN specific and Honda is stating that our vehicle is not covered for repair under this service bulletin. I am questioning them further but it is the same problem as described in the bulletin so maybe the recall/product update needs to be looked at further so that in the future drivers don't experience the shifter knob falling off the gear selector while in motion.
I was driving on I-5 about 70 mph, suddenly the car started running rough and speed dropped immediately to 10-12 mph. The check engine light came on. I immediately pulled to the side of the road. After a minute or so the car returned to normal. I continued driving to the next dealer and had them inspect the car. They could find nothing wrong and gave me back my car. After driving an additional 15 minutes the same thing happened only the check engine light and many other warning lights came on and flashed. Once again I pulled to the side of the road and was towed to the dealership. They then changed the oil, replaced a fouled spark plug, adjusted the fuel injector settings and replaced the climate control unit. Honda has been unable to explain to me why this would solve the problem long term.
While driving down the hwy at 65 mph the button in the gear shift popped out. It is a piece of plastic and it broke inside the gear handle. I drove home but without this button inserted I am not able to shift to park, reverse, drive. I took it to the westhills Honda dealer for repair. I was told there was a recall on this same issue but not for this VIN. To me this is a very serious concern.
Shift knob button broke during operation resulting in loss of use of vehicle. Battery has been replaced 2 times on vehicle.
The the gearshift button has broken. We have friends with the same exact year make model that did the same exact thing.
Gear shift button popped out while driving: I was driving with my children in the car, the button popped out as I was trying to drop them off at school. This could have been a truly deadly situation in a crowded drop off because the car would not go to park. Thankfully I quickly recovered from shock, hit the brakes and scrambled to grab the piece that had fallen to the floor of the car. The button piece looks cheap, so now the coil is exposed. I can't just stick my finger in so I am going to need to tape the button back on until I get it fixed. This is an obvious recall issue since so many people have mentioned it. I wouldn't have reported it if I didn't see so many online complaints.
When driving on a local road from school, my son pressed the accelerator after a stop light. Our 2017 Honda crv didn't move an inch. Thankfully, it was not a highway and the cars behind him were not coming at high speed. We had the car towed to the dealer and it turned out that the transmission was gone and it had to be replaced. We were quite upset that only a two year old car can have this problem and wanted to report the incident,.
Power train and fuel injector issue. Causing the spark plug replacement under an extended warranty, however the faulty fuel injector was not.
Gear shift knob snapped off making it impossible to shift into or out of park or reverse. This car is just over 2 years old with 16,000 miles. Fortunately for me, the car was stationary when it happened - I had just started it to pull out of a parking space while on vacation.
Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that their dial gear popped off their console. The contact couldn't find the gear nob. They had look for the piece while trying to steer the vehicle to safety. The contact call metro Honda 9399 autoplex st, montclair, CA 91763 (909) 542-9637 where the vehicle was diagnosed. The mechanics will service the vehicle. The mechanics had to check for the parts first. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. They provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 21,000. Jw.
Stopped vehicle to park and was unable to move shift lever to park. The push button on the shift lever had broken. The vehicle could be turned off, but it could not be started without the shift lever moving to park. This problem has been reported by many, many users!.
Button on shifter knob has broken off at approximately 37,000 miles. Cannot shift car out of park.
While driving the shift lever push knob button which allows you to shift gears fell out. Upon researching this issue on line, apparently it is a well known issue with 2017 and 2018 Honda Cr-vs. The plastic button breaks inside the shift lever with part falling out and the other portion remaining inside the shift lever. When I returned the vehicle to a Honda dealer, they were well aware of this issue and replaced it under warranty. This item should be the subject of a mandatory recall as it poses a hazard when one can't shift the car out of drive etc. I was told at the dealer that it is only replaced if already broken.
Shift knob button broke off while placing the car in drive from park - now I am unable to shift car to park or any other gear. This car only has 19k miles on it and a year and a 1/2 old. There are many reports of this same problem on the internet and on youtube - I have never in all of my years driving had a similar issue with a shift button.
