Traveling at 70 mph on I-5, washington state, a warning message telling us the braking system was compromised, referencing "vsa", part so the stability control system. We pulled over and turned the car off, deleting the message. Within two miles of proceeding along the road the display presented a message saying the parking/emergency brake was malfunctioning, at 70 mph. Three days later my wife was backing up in the driveway and the car applied the brakes and would not proceed. When my wife engaged the forward gear the car did drive forward while cycling various error messages. It, via computer interpretation, determines how the brake fluid pressure is applied/distributed to all and any of the braking systems. Some systems are automatically initiated and others are initiated by the driver. These systems include the auto-emergency braking, the application of the electric foot brakes, the parking brake among others. We had the car delivered to the local dealership with the above information. The dealer ran an obd scan and decided that the electric servo booster. I do not challenge this decision. My concern is that this malfunction has triggered a recall in japan and that there are worldwide reports of the malfunction. Please have someone look into this system failure with Honda.
I was driving this vehicle (2020 Honda crv hybrid touring) and the brakes became very hard to stop. It was like standard braking without power assist and required great effort to stop the vehicle. Many warnings appeared on the dash including: 1. Brake system problem 2. Electric parking brake problem 3. Brake hold system problem 4. Hill start assist problem 5. Collision mitigation system problem 6. Vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem 7. Road departure mitigation problem 8. Adaptive cruise control problem the emergency brake light is on and won't go away. Sometimes when you start it, the warnings will clear after pressing the "!" button. Other times they won't clear making it not driveable because of the hard braking. I took it to first class halt and they found some code they had never seen. They cleared the code and 2 days later it started up with the same thing. I took it to hendrick Honda and they also just cleared a code. A few days later it started all over making the car undriveable at least in a safe manner with full control over the brakes. It seems that neither an independent shop nor a Honda dealership can correct this dangerous problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal stopped the vehicle the independently without the contact depressing the brake pedal. The brake warning light illuminated. A dealer or independent mechanic was not contacted. The vehicle was not the dealer or independent mechanic for diagnoses. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
I had intermittent warning lights about the electronic parking brake and steering assist for lane departure. One day I left my house and warning lights came on about brake failure. There were no power brakes and the little braking available was very not good at all. I had the car towed to a dealer and it was diagnosed with an internal failure of brake control unit code pfe2b oo. I had the unit replaced.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the brake pedal depressed independently, and the contact heard a beeping sound coming from the instrument panel. The contact stated that the passenger who was asleep inside the vehicle, struck the dashboard with his hands; however, there was no injury reported. The contact also stated that while coming to a stop and depressing the brake pedal, the message “brake” was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. There was warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that approximately four times while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle unexpectedly came to a complete stop for several seconds before unintendedly accelerating. The contact expressed concerns about driving the vehicle with his grandchildren inside the vehicle due to the failures. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer who also failed to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000.
Recently ([xxx]) my wife was left stranded away from home when our 2020 Cr-v started but would not go into any gear and had multiple warning messages about system failures including brake system problem (no working brakes), electric parking brake problem, tire pressure monitor problem, transmission system problem and auto engine idle stop system problem. If she had removed the [xxx] that cut the wires while driving the brakes would have stopped working. She had to call for a tow truck to take her to the Honda dealer. The Honda technician found that wires running under the rear view mirror had been cut by the [xxx] she uses causing a short and a malfunction of the computer system. The repair cost was $2451. This is an obvious design flaw by Honda. My wife is a [xxx] and all [xxx] are designed to hang over the rear view mirror. Honda should not have left exposed wires there under the rearview mirror, they should have been enclosed and protected. Anyone using a [xxx] is at risk of cutting these wires which makes the vehicle undriveable. [xxx] people are most at risk of being stranded. Anyone with a 2020 Honda Cr-v and using a [xxx] should be warned about this problem immediately. Our vehicle was repaired at Honda of stevens creek in san jose CA and the repair bill was $2451. The technician even did a video showing how the [xxx] cut the wire. We request that Honda reimburse us for our repair cost of $2451 and for Honda to fix this issue before more [xxx] people are left stranded.
Brakes failed due to a known issue with the brake simulator. The same vehicle has been recalled in japan for this reason. Brakes became completely non-responsive while driving. Again, this is a known issue. The brakes simply due not work and in japan they have identified a manufacturing process defect. [xxx] vehicle was inspected by team Honda in baton rouge. Many lights on the dash are warning that there is a defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while making a turn into a parking space, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated, drove up the curb, hit and drove over the metallic bank sign pole, which damaged the undercarriage of the vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into the sides of two unoccupied vehicles that were parked perpendicularly to the contact's vehicle. The vehicle then stopped. The contact stated that one of the vehicles that the vehicle had crashed into was pushed a third of a block away. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed during the failure, but the vehicle failed to respond. The message "brake failure" was displayed, and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The vehicle was towed to an autobody repair shop, where it was repaired for the damage sustained. Additionally, the contact stated that while pulling into a parking space in front of the residence, the brake pedal was depressed, but the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The other vehicle sustained minor damage. The air bags did not deployed. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to call the manufacturer for diagnostic testing to be performed by an engineer with better electrical equipment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
Brakes stopped working suddenly. All of the brake system started flashing warnings. Electric parking brake light is on when parking brake is not engaged. Warning lights all flashed: electric parking brake problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem, and road departure mitigation system problem. This car has 50k miles and just out of warranty. It was a $6k repair!!!!! Honda said faulty parts.
Yesterday (xxx) while starting my car the warning lights came on notifying me of a potential issue with multiple safety systems including the brake system. my parking brake would not show that it was released and when put in gear the brakes were very mushy and the vehicle did not feel that it could be driven safely. I requested triple aaa to tow the car to the Honda dealership in lumberton north carolina this morning (xxx) as I did not feel that it was safe to drive. a diagnostic test was performed that indicated that the electric servo brake system / electric brake booster system malfunction was found and that the vehicle needs an electric servo pedal simulator unit replaced. This component functions cooperatively with the regenerative brakes together with a structure in which pedal force is not influenced by braking pressure control. I have researched this issue and found that this particular problem and the associated part has been recognized as an ongoing problem with some Honda hybrid models and that it has recently been recalled in japan, and many Honda owners in the uk have also been experiencing the same malfunction to this part. this appears to be a systemic issue with a part involving select Honda hybrid models that appears to occur as early as after 20,000 miles and oftentimes shortly after the vehicle involved is out of warranty. american Honda has not officially recognized this problem as a safety issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2020 Honda Cr-v hybrid servo brake electrical malfunction has led to braking inconsistencies, unprompted emergency brake application, and numerous dashboard errors. Electric servo brake component needed to be replaced entirely for the vehicle, roughly $2,200 for parts and labor.
I was the first and only car waiting at a stop light, when the light turned green I began to accelerate and as I aproached the crosswalk line the car auto-braked hard. There were no other cars near by, nor pedestrians anywhere. The auto-braking only lasted a second, did not quite come to a full stop and has not repeated. If there had been a car behind me, I could have easily been rear ended. I notified the service department at the dealership and told them of the NHTSA investigation, he said this was the first he has heard of the problem and if it happens again to document it and bring it in for inspection. I will do so. There were no warning lamps or messages before or after the incident.
The part that failed is called the "electronic servo pedal simulator unit", aka "set, bos assm. " aka "brake pedal simulator (simulator set, pedal feel)" aka "brake pedal operating simulator". The Honda (oem) part number is 01469-tpg-a95. The part failure was diagnosed at buckeye Honda in lancaster, ohio, in coordination with the tech department at Honda corp. , and was replaced at buckeye Honda in lancaster, ohio. The buckeye Honda (service department) said that they had not seen this problem before, so they contacted the tech dept. At Honda to seek assistance in the diagnosis. The safety of the vehicle occupants was put at risk by the almost complete loss of brake functions and the interacting functions. At first the brake warning and avs warning lights would illuminate on the driver's display, and then they would go off and everything would function normally. But the driver' display warnings got more frequent and the brakes would not function normally. Finally, all of the driver's display warnings would sequence through, one by one, and the brakes were almost entirely gone. The Honda dealer did not give me the faulty part because he said it would have to be sent to Honda. I do not know if Honda America will inspect the part to determine the cause of the failure. I did take a cellphone picture of the part. The problem began approx. 4/10/2024. I picked up the repaired vehicle at buckeye Honda on Monday 4/29/2024. The part was out of warranty by about one month: the "in-service date" was 03/04/2021. The mileage on the vehicle was 12,920 miles at the time of repair and I am the original owner. Honda America did give me a "goodwill" authorization number, in coordination with buckeye Honda in lancaster, ohio, which lowered my out of pocket cost to $l457. 73.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 45 mph the brakes independently applied. The contact stated that the vehicle slowed to approximately 15 mph. The contact stated the "braking" warning was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was suddenly no longer braking and he continued to his destination. The contact stated that the failure had occurred one more time. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
This 2020 Honda Cr-v has experienced 5 uncommanded automatic braking events so far. All 5 events were in wet conditions, with no apparent obstacle in front of the vehicle. One of these events occurred on I-35 at 70mph, and resulted in a full stop with the car facing oncoming traffic. The collision mitigation braking system frequently provides false warnings in this vehicle.
Breaks stopped working and all warning lights came on on the dashboard. Ran off the road and ran over a sign causing damage to rf quarterpanel. The lealer siad that my habndicap plackart had cut through the wiring in the rear view mirror, shorting out the system. This should be a recall to fix the problem. The plackard was beig hung as intended. Plackardas are hard plastic and could cut through insulation.
Complete brake failure while in motion.
The break pedal felt stiff and I had hard time coming to a stop. That was going on for a few days until the car was dropped off for service. The reason was a break booster failure. We were told that it never happens. Even though the car only had about 15k miles we were out of warranty so had to pay $2400 to get it fixed. We filed a claim with Honda but were denied in reimbursement. Honda had break booster recalls in multiple models but not this one. However, there's no reason for the break booster failure other than a manufacturer's defect.
Started the car and drove out of garage and had break failure. My wife was driving and she said that when pushing hard on breaks there was very little break ability (at speed there would be none) at this time a bunch of lights went on warning about break failure. Fortunately this happened at the initiating of driving. (a similar account is in the uploaded document). According to Honda the break operating simulator failed (the equivalent of a master cylinder). Honda replace the breaks with the same part and as I was told there was not updates or fixes to the faulty parts. The car had all it services and are really well looked after it has only 25000 miles on the clock. No modern day car should have break failure after 25000 miles. More info can be seen on the uploaded report.
The orange flashing rectangular "brake" warning light on the dashboard display comes on intermittently and randomly while I am driving when there is nothing on the road or in front of the car warning me that the car will be braking itself. This has happened while driving 70 mph on the interstate as well as on local roads going 30-40 mph and in all of these instances there has been nothing in the way of the car! no vehicles. No objects. Nothing. If I had not seen the warning light display on the dashboard and the automatic braking system would have stopped my car while driving 70 mph I could have been killed by a driver behind me on the road running into my car or by severe whiplash from stopping so fast unknowingly. I have reported this to my local Honda dealership where I bought the car (twice now in the last 10 months; once on 8/1/23 and again on 5/9/24). They said they have no knowledge of a potential recall even though I have told them I have read multiple articles in the past several months about a possible recall. I am taking my car to a local body shop to have it scanned to see if they can find anything wrong but the dealership refuses to check the codes as a courtesy free of charge. Honda has suggested I wash my car to clean the sensors of debris which I do very often and the issue just keeps happening. Thank you.
Vehicle activated emergency braking system for no apparent reason. If a vehicle would have been behind us, it may have collided with us. The brake released at around 10 mph.
Five separate times when starting the car the brakes shake and a message shows up on the dashboard "brake system" - "brake system problem" - "electric parking brake problem". The car had less than 25,000 miles when I first saw this message. I am not an expert but seems like an electrical problem.
I was driving 55 mph on north long lake road approaching the north long lake/west long lake intersection. A car was in the turn lane and almost turned to lake ann. Another car was approaching going east. The automatic braking suddenly came on for no reason almost stopping the car in the middle of the road. The crv slowed very quickly from 55 mph to 5 mph for no reason. Then it went off and I was able to speed back up. This is the second time the braking system has stopped the car for no reason. Luckily there was no one behind me. This is the second complaint I have filed to nhsta for the same reason.
At a 4 way stop intersection, when it was my turn, I drove through the intersection and suddenly the automatic braking system stopped the car in the middle of the intersection but there was not anything I was going to collide with. The "brake" warning came on but as soon as I stopped very abruptly, it went off and I was able to drive away. I am terrified that the crv will brake again without warning and a car will hit me.
My wife and family left evans, georgia, on 06-Apr-2023 for their first cruise that departed from miami, florida. As they traveled down the interstate on 07-Apr-2023, the cruise date, the vehicle's right brake came off. My daughter steered the Cr-v to safety without causing a major accident on a major interstate highway. They contacted the local Honda, brickell Honda, 690 s. W. 8th street, miami, florida, who dispatched a tow truck. The service representative was ms. Anthounette munoz. She asked whether the brakes had been worked on before; they had never since purchased the Cr-v. Also, she confirmed that the damage was not due to road debris. Brickell Honda repaired the Cr-v for $1151. 31. The communication with brickell Honda was good while the Cr-v was in the shop. However, when we tried to reach out to the service advisor after the repairs were completed, it differed from Honda's standards. She failed to respond to our calls, voicemail, and text message. On 23 Apr 2023, I decided to have my local Honda, gerald jones Honda, 4022 washington road, martinez, GA, review the work completed by brickell Honda. They did not know why the brakes would have came-off, but they noticed the right rear brake line tangled up and the bolt left loose. These were things that brickell Honda left undone, putting my family at risk! according to gerald jones Honda, fixing those things would cost an additional $175. 00. We paid $201. 25 for gerald jones Honda diagnostic.
The car brakes have a delay to engage. My vehicle rolled forward 5 feet when brakes disengaged. The brake pedal makes a clunking sound after foot is removed. There is a slight delay between brake release and clunking sound. They stick and car slides forward.
My dashboard continues to show the message, “low tire pressure. ” even after air has been filled in the tire. I ran a diagnostic today and the report is pulling up anti-lock brakes issues. The sensor is not stating this on the dashboard.
The auto brake feature engaged on the beltway by itself and caused the car to come to a complete stop while cars behind us were forced to swerve out of the way to avoid a serious accident. My wife is afraid to keep driving the car and we are now figuring out a way to get rid of it. Reported to local dealer but did not get any response.
Phantom braking incident. As I was driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle applied brakes for no apparent reason. Luckily, the vehicle traveling behind me didn't crash into the rear of my vehicle but had this happened when traveling at higher speeds, there would have been a serious accident. This has happened numerous times since owning the vehicle, but only the 2nd time I've reported it here.
Too frequently the car automatically hard brakes & flashes "brake" on the dash with no collision imminent but has almost caused accidents in doing so. This has happened turning slowly thru a busy intersection, driving moderate speed straight on a dappled sunlit road with no car around, driving in light traffic on a multi-lane highway at higher speeds. I have had the local Honda techs look at it last year and all they could do is ask if I want the sensitivity turned down. What good is the system if one thwarts what it is supposed to actually do?? also there is no way to clean the front cameras which might have debris causing this. As it is happening more frequently, perhaps a debris collection is precisely the issue. Honda needs to take ownership of this faulty system & fix it!.
Driving north toward lebanon, ohio on route 48. One passenger and one dog in backseat. No one in front passenger seat. Car beeped and alerted to brake then suddenly braked very hard with no cars around or in front.
For the 2nd time in a span of ~6 months, the 2020 Honda Cr-v randomly slowed down/tried to come to an abrupt halt in the middle of the freeway. Terrifying experience both times as it could have easily resulted in being in a fatal collision. I took this to the dealership immediately after the first time it happened but they deemed it as a "phantom issue". This happened again today and I don't know what to do. I did find that I am not alone with this problem via this article. . Read more...
I was in an accident this morning on the freeway where they are doing road construction. The lanes are very narrow due to cement wall placed for construction. The vehicle in front of me slammed on their brakes suddenly so when I did the automatic brakes kicked in on my car surpassing the level of my own braking and took over. The car came to a compelete stop. It was terrifying because I didnt have control to keep moving to try and get out of the way from the semi driving behind me. I moved over as much as I could even with a cement wall so close. I ended up getting rear ended by the semi. This automatic braking system is dangerous. With the car taking over my brakes lost me time to try and get out of the way even more which ccould have possibly prevented the accident from happening.
Brakes lock up intermittently when trying to start the car. Happened once when I was sitting in traffic.
On 5 separate occasions the crv has automatically braked hard while driving down the highway. On none of the occasions has another vehicle or obstacle warranted this automatic braking. We were about rear-ended while on the interstate driving 70 when the car automatically braked. I am including the latest automatic braking incident in this report.
My car has been braking on its own the last 5 months. Today it braked for no reason. There was no car in front of us or to either side of us. There was nothing in front of us either. It braked super hard and there was someone behind us who luckily slammed on their brakes and didn’t hit us. It gave me and my kids whiplash. Other times it will brake on its own if there’s a shadow from a bridge or something. Again when it does that there are no cars in front or next to us or even remotely close to us. This is beginning to be a frequent thing happening once or more a week. It’s super dangerous and I don’t feel safe with it braking for no reason.
Almost 2 weeks ago I was driving on the florida turnpike (about 77mph) and suddenly the gas quit on the car. It slower down to about 50mph as I kept trying to give it gas but to no avail. Meanwhile I was lucky enough to be able to steer it into the right lane. This seemed to last a long time but in. Truth it was probably only about 5 - 7 seconds. Then suddenly the gas came back on. This happened two more times during the same trip but these were shorter in duration amounting to a big hiccup on the gas. It has never happened to me again. I took it to the Honda dealer. They said they took it out for a spin and couldn't replicate it and had no idea what was wrong. Now I rarely drive on roads that are high speed so perhaps that is why it has not happened again. I see that you are investigating a similar issue for crv's that are 2018 -19 but mine is 2020. It sounds as though it's the same problem. Luckily I was never in an accident with the car so the police and insurance was never involved.
We were cruising along rt 130 in new jersey when suddenly the automatic emergency braking system "brake" flashed on my dashboard and my vehicle braked for a while (from 50mph to 30mph) although there were no cars or any obstacles ahead of us. I had to step on the gas pedal to avoid any rear-end collision on me. Luckily, there were no vehicle behind me at that time.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked with the engine on, the emergency parking brake not engaged, she reached the vehicle to push the push/start button to turn off the vehicle, and the vehicle started to roll backward. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled over both legs and she required medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped once it collided with the neighbor's house across the street. The vehicle was towed to a collision shop for diagnostic testing and body repairs. The diagnostic testing has not been performed on the vehicle at this time. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to call the Honda manufacturer. The contact stated that she has not been able to reach the manufacturer to make them aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
On several separate occasions our Honda 2020 crv has applied braking in circumstances where it should not have. On one occasion the vehicle ahead was maintaining the same speed and distance and our car applied brakes although the vehicle ahead was more car lengths ahead than 1 per 10 mph. On other occasions there were no vehicles ahead or beside, while we were traveling at highway speeds on open highway and the car abruptly applied brakes. In each instance the braking stopped after a short jerk. In other words, it behaved as if the driver had lightly tapped the brakes, although that was not the case.
My car has applied the automatic emergency braking 4 times with no emergency needed as no other cars were around. All events included shadows from either a highway sign or a group of trees and occurred throughout the summer/fall of 2021.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while reversing out of a driveway, when depressing the brake pedal it failed to stop and crashed into a high voltage box. The contact stated she was unaware if any warning lights were illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustain injuries on her neck and back but did not seek medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and they were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,300.
New vehicle with approx. 3,000 miles became completely disabled on highway and exposed occupants to extreme danger. Dealership reported that a "faulty brake sensor" was the cause of the vehicle becoming inoperable. Vehicle was being driven at 60 mph and engine died on an underpass turn barely visible to traffic behind and was almost hit by a semi cruising at 60+ mph. Failure of all systems resulted and could have killed the Honda Cr-v occupants.
I leased a brand new Cr-v and 12 hours after I left the dealership it malfunctioned. While driving 7 mph in my apartment complex my brakes and steering wheel locked up causing me to bump into a concrete sidewalk barrier. My computer system alerted me to system failures for power steering, braking, awd, etc. The only damage was scuffed up tires and hubcaps. After having it towed to the dealership they said I wrecked the vehicle and there was no malfunction. They also said the wheel rod was bent to a 90 degree angle. I find it very concerning that the wheel rod could be bent that much while only going 7mph. The dealership does not believe that the vehicle malfunctioned causing me to wreck an are adamant I caused all the issues. This is a serious malfunction an I am lucky to be alive today.
Bought 2019 accord new had the rotors replaced at 8,000 first I went in they turned them made it worse had to go back they turned again still bad so they replaced with a new set . I'm at 16,800 and it's starting to do it again and the dealer says they can't feel it yet and . Now I have to show them the chattering that's just starting but it shouldn't be they only have 8,000 miles I have 3 other Honda all my brakes are fine except my new car that's a problem.
When driving on a city street, there was a flat metal plate on the street (a plate that is commonly found when a street is under construction. Suddenly the car came to a violent, abrupt stop before the plate. The car stopped so suddenly that the whole car shook as if I was hit by 3 cars. My body jolted forward and my groceries flew off the back seat. I was on the phone (hands free) and the person I was speaking with became alarmed since they heard a loud, concerning sound. I had to sit there for a few minutes in the middle of the street to get my bearings. It was so alarming that I couldn't figure out what happened for a few minutes. I did not apply the brakes myself, so this must have been caused by the Honda collision mitigation braking system. This experience was so jolting that it stayed with me all night. This was very dangerous. I'm lucky there weren't cars around me because it would have caused a bad accident.
I bought the car on the 22 of may 2020. On the 17th of July 2020, I lost all brakes, tpms, lane control, emergency braking warning. I returned the car to the dealer. They kept if for 5 hours. They told me the computer was updated. On Monday the 19th I had the same problem. I returned to the dealer on Tuesday the 20th of July, I went back to the dealer. They kept the car and gave me a rental telling they ordered the part from ghe mainland(I am in hawaii). They said it would take 5 to six days to get the part and fix the problem. This is a new car, what's going on?.
Approximately 10-15% of the time, when trying to depress the brake pedal before pressing the start button on my 2020 Honda Cr-v, the brake pedal cannot be depressed. It is firmly locked/jammed in place. In some instances, I can apply very firm pressure on the pedal, just enough to get the engine to start, but in other cases, the pedal cannot be depressed at all. When this occurs, pressing the start button initiates the electronic systems but does not start the engine. Once electronic systems are on, the pedal sometimes remains firmly locked, and other times may slightly soften to the point that I can press the start button again and start the engine. During instances when the pedal remains firmly locked, I may have to press the start button several times, cycling electronics on and off before the pedal eventually softens enough to allow the engine to start. The pedal issue seems random, regardless of warm or cold engine, terrain, weather conditions, use of parking brake, pressing the pedal repeatedly, etc. Based on other similar online reviews, there is growing concern that the pedal can lock while the vehicle is in motion, causing a loss of braking capability in affected vehicles including Cr-v, pilot, and ridgeline. Speculative causes may be a brake vacuum/booster defect. Two local dealerships claimed they are unfamiliar with the problem and a technician reviewing the vehicle said everything was working fine, so they apparently have not experienced the jammed brake pedal in person.
Brake intermittently does not push down making it impossible to start the car. I have to open the door and close it then the brake will go down. Also, one time I was stopped while driving trying to get out in traffic and the brake came up and was hard as a rock. I quickly opened the door and closed it and the brake went back down. I have had it at the dealership about this 3 times. The third time the service department forman had it happen to him but he said he didn’t know why. Nothing was done.
