1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that approximately four times while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle unexpectedly came to a complete stop for several seconds before unintendedly accelerating. The contact expressed concerns about driving the vehicle with his grandchildren inside the vehicle due to the failures. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer who also failed to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2025

While driving down the freeway at around 60 mph, I sharply accelerated to negotiate traffic and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light was flashing. I was able to roll to an exit ramp where I could barely get up a slight incline. I was able to get out of traffic but at speed of less than 5 mph. It sounded like the vehicle was running on two cylinders. I pulled over and turned the car off. I was able to re-start the car after which it ran normally. I went directly to the dealership where they were unable to reproduce or diagnose the issue.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while making a turn into a parking space, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated, drove up the curb, hit and drove over the metallic bank sign pole, which damaged the undercarriage of the vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into the sides of two unoccupied vehicles that were parked perpendicularly to the contact's vehicle. The vehicle then stopped. The contact stated that one of the vehicles that the vehicle had crashed into was pushed a third of a block away. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed during the failure, but the vehicle failed to respond. The message "brake failure" was displayed, and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The vehicle was towed to an autobody repair shop, where it was repaired for the damage sustained. Additionally, the contact stated that while pulling into a parking space in front of the residence, the brake pedal was depressed, but the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of another parked and unoccupied vehicle. The other vehicle sustained minor damage. The air bags did not deployed. No police report was filed, and no injury was sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to call the manufacturer for diagnostic testing to be performed by an engineer with better electrical equipment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2023

Breaks stopped working and all warning lights came on on the dashboard. Ran off the road and ran over a sign causing damage to rf quarterpanel. The lealer siad that my habndicap plackart had cut through the wiring in the rear view mirror, shorting out the system. This should be a recall to fix the problem. The plackard was beig hung as intended. Plackardas are hard plastic and could cut through insulation.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2023

Driving on the freeway with my foot on the accelerator, the car lost power even thought the engine was running. The engine light came on as a static light - it was not blinking. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and shut the engine off. When I restarted the car the engine light was off and I was able to accelerate again. After the first incident, I took it to a Honda dealer who replaced the fuel injectors. This did not solve the problem as it happened on the drive back from the dealers when I was again driving on a freeway with my foot on the accelerator and I lost all power, the engine was still running and the engine light came on. I pulled off the freeway, put the car in park, and turned off the engine. The car is now at the second dealer to determine the cause. My car only has 46000 miles on it and there should not be these types of uses with the low mileage.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2023

On three separate occasions, I was driving on the highway and lost power to accelerate causing a safety issue as I was on a fast-moving highway and had to find an exit or pull over. The three times were September 22, 2022, March 23, 2023 and July 23, 2023. The first time I had it towed to hennessy Honda in woodstock, GA. They were unable to determine anything was wrong. The second time, I pulled off the highway, waited 5 minutes and then was able to start and continue to my neighborhood mechanic, bridgemill auto repair in canton, GA. Again they found nothing to explain the loss of drive power. The third time I was able to get off the highway at a nearby exit and, again, waited for 5-10 min before starting and resuming. When I saw the recall notice on 2020 Honda Cr-v hybrid recalls, I realized this must be the issue. I brought my car to ed voyles Honda in marietta, GA near my job on August 21, 2023 to have it checked out. They said that this was not on the list of recalls, but if it happened again to bring it back to them to have it checked out. I do not want to wait for this to happen again as this is a safety issue and has obviously happened with other 2020 Cr-v hybrids such as mine. I drive 45 minutes on major highways to work daily and can never be sure when it will happen the next time if I will be able to manage to avoid a crash causing injury to me, occupants in my car, and other cars on the highway. Please advise.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2022

I was attempting to park in front of a medical professional building with my foot on the brake slowly rolling between the parking lines when the car experienced sudden unintended acceleration. Although I realized the car was accelerating and lurching forward, the brake was not stopping the vehicle. The car jumped the parking curb and crashed into the building causing damage to both the exterior and interior wall of the doctor's waiting room. While neither myself, my passenger, nor any patients in the waiting room were injured, someone could have been. The air bags did not deploy, and the collision mitigation system did not engage preventing the collision. Damage to the vehicle consisted of mostly front bumper and grill damage. When I called the local Honda dealership service department asking if I should have them evaluate the car before having body work completed, I was told that the dealership does not accept damaged cars until the body work has been completed. Consequently, I had the car towed to a body shop even though it was technically drivable. I did not feel safe driving the vehicle fearing it would suddenly accelerate again. I reported the incident to the Honda corporate office and a case was opened. I was again told that damage to the car had to be repaired by the body shop before the car would be evaluated by Honda. When the body shop completed the repairs, I had the car towed to the local Honda dealership for evaluation. I specifically requested that the event data recorder be evaluated, but I received conflicting answers when I asked if it had been accessed during the inspection. I was told that the Honda district representative reviewed the data from the inspection and invoice states, "no defects in materials or factory workmanship were found (name of tech) inspected and found no issues, relayed information to Honda and they advised the vehicle is ok to drive at this time". The vehicle was released back to me, but I refuse to drive it.
