Fuel pump malfunction.
My 2010 Honda accord Crosstour was low in oil but the engine oil light never came on to warn me. However the engine light did come on. I had oil and took it to dealer for an oil change which was not due. The dealer did not want to reset the engine light. The engine light error code p3497. Several Honda car owners have complained about the p3497 error code staying on. This is costing consumers a lot of money to have a diagnostic on the error code and repairs. This should be a recall. Frustrated Honda owner.
Tl - the contact owns a 2010 Honda Crosstour. The contact stated that on a Saturday the warning light for the oil indicated that the oil was at 15%. The contact stated the next day, Sunday, after coming out their driveway while stopped at a stop sign they noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact noticed that the smoke went from a light amount to a heavy black color. The contact decided to backup and pull the vehicle over. The contact got out the vehicle and took their grandson at the vehicle. The contact notice a leaking coming from under the front end of the vehicle then shortly after fire came from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact contacted the dealership (southern motor Honda savannah GA) however, due to the damage the vehicle has to be inspected by insurance and not by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Gl.
I purchased a used 2010 accord Crosstour from hanover Honda in PA, in November, 2018. Haven't had it quite a year, in March of 2019, the engine light came on, and the car started to misfire intensely. Code p0301 came up. I took it to martin Honda in DE and they told me that the computer software had to be updated and a few of the spark plugs had to be changed. $345. 00 later, they said that this was a "two-part" repair and when it happens again, they would do the 2nd part which had to do with the pistons & solenoids. It happened again. October, 2019, the engine light came on and my husband found the car to be more that 2 quarts low on oil. The code now is p3497. Took it back to martin Honda, and they told me exactly what all of the other complaints say. Rocker arm switches need replaced. They said "let's try an oil change and re-check it in about 1000 miles". This leads me to believe that all Honda service centers know about these complaints. The dealership where I purchased the car, wouldn't help me at all. Richard at Honda headquarters agreed with the service department at martin Honda in DE, and denied my claim. All I want is for Honda to take responsibility for their engine defect, and make it right. I pay too much for this vehicle, just to have to pay for something that is a known defect. I have escalated my concerns with Honda. They are going to have a huge lawsuit, if someone dies because of a defective engine that blows up. It would be easier and cheaper for them to recall these models. In the past, they have had many complaints and class action lawsuits settled for these exact issues with the v6 engines. This is all greed. It doesn't matter what type of street, or where this issue happens. The oil consumption test is just cover up and a way for Honda to say "you're past the warranty". That shouldn't matter either. I thought Honda was better than this.
While parking, in spot, with foot on brake, engine started to rev and I felt car wanting to move forward. I put the car in park and checked to make sure my foot was not touching the gas. It was not. My wife was in the car with me and asked me what had happened. I wasn't sure. A couple of months later my wife was driving approx. 25 mph when she heard and felt the engine rev and the car started racing forward. She slammed on the brake and pulled the car over and shut it off. Luckily no one was in front or behind her during this occurence. My wife and I feel the car is not safe to drive. The dealer has "checked" it out and can not find anything wrong with the car.
