The car accelerates incorrectly making it unsafe to drive. No matter how much gas you give it, the car will only go 15 mph. This can cause serious accidents, especially when entering a highway or turning left. The only warning you get is a light on the dashboard. The problem on the computer test shows a p2138(37) code. App sensor a/b (throttle position to sensor.

There's an electrical problem. The car sometimes will not start right away. We have to give it several tries and usually after 5 minutes it will start. We've already replaced the starter and problem still persists. We thought last recall would have fixed the problem, because this issue was mentioned. But, the same problem still continues after last recall.

My cars brake pedal had been soft for some time yet no problem with the brakes or with the vsa. I started my car on Saturday morning (6/13/2015) and the vsa, abs and triangle exclamation light came on and would not go out. The vehicle was checked on the 30th of April 2010 and no change was made to the vsa since no problem was reported. I am disabled and do not use the vehicle that often. It is well maintained and in excellent running order. I took the car to my regular mechanic and he tested the car quickly and told me to take to the dealer for recall repair. It is doing exactly what service bulletin 10-017 was reporting. I called Honda of America on the 17th of June 2015 to speak with them and they told me to take it to the dealer. I have a case number from them.

The Honda Element has a recall for a soft, spongy brake pedal that has to be pushed to the floor to get the brakes to engage. There is a recall for this symptom, related to the vehicle stability assist module. The recall work was done, and the pedal feel improved, but after time, the issue returns. My brakes are soft and spongy and I get no brakes unless the pedal goes most of the way to the floor. It feels as if the car is not going to stop each time I brake.
Steering and/or vsa system
I bought a new Honda Element February 12th, 2005. Between then and near the end of 2006, I experienced a total loss of steering on at least 8 occasions. The car would continue in the direction that it was headed. There was no steering at all. The occurrences only lasted for seconds but felt like minutes. This occurred most often in the early mornings (6-7am) and between 15 and 20 minutes after leaving home. There was another problem with the steering during the same period of time. In specific situations, it was hard to control and felt as though the real time four wheel drive would kick-in. This happened mostly behind semi-trucks. After the last occurrence over three years ago when the loss of steering control headed me in the direction of the median and oncoming traffic, I became so fearful of driving the vehicle that I parked it in my garage. After taking in the Element on 8 occasions and not having been satisfied with the service department of roebuck Honda, I began to explore solutions with other local Honda dealerships and with american Honda motor company. The dealerships service centers could not duplicate the steering failure. I have been to dealerships over 11 times with this problem with no solution. American Honda would not take actions to resolve the problem. I have found other reports on steering issues with the Element. Friends and relatives have suggested that I trade the car in, but I cannot in clear conscience do this. I could not live with myself knowing I had put an unsafe vehicle in someone elses hands. However, I can not afford this. Please contact me at [xxx] . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
