Body problems of the 2008 Honda FIT

My bumper snapped off with going down a driveway. It’s made of plastic and it’s broken and need to be replaced. This is an ongoing issue with this vehicle. Every Honda Fit I see on the road has this issue. This is dangerous and could cause an accident.

Water enters the car excessively whenever it rains. When researching the issue online, I discovered that many Fit owners have the same issue. It appears that water comes in around the windows and the plastic sheeting inside the door compartment isn't sealed correctly, so instead of shedding the water to outside of the car it allows the water to enter the vehicle around the rear speakers. I'm not sure yet how it is getting into the hatch area. I typically have my rear seats down, so I didn't notice the two inches of standing water in my backseat. Further investigation led me to find two inches in the spare tire compartment as well. Judging by the rust disintegrated jack in the spare tire compartment, this has been happening for quite some time. My rear seat, carpet, and carpet pad have been soaked for so long that when I was vacuuming the water out of the car today, I saw white mold growing along the top of my rear seats. I'm sure the car is loaded with mold and possibly needs to be totaled due to this issue. This now presents major health risks.

I am the original and only owner of this 2008 Honda Fit sport. This car has not been in any accidents so the integrity of the structure of the vehicle should be sound. But it is not. I am not sure when the issue began but I have known about it for a few years and didn't realize that so many other 2008 Honda Fit owners have had the same problem. So, I am just now making this complaint. My car, just as many other 2008 Honda Fit sport owners have reported, has a structural deficiency somewhere that allows water into the vehicle in at least two separate entry points. Water pools in the location where the spare tire is located. Not just a little bit, not just a drop or two. . . But a "pool" of water. Secondly, water is getting into the right rear passenger floorboard. The carpet is constantly wet and mushy. My car smells terrible due to sitting water (smells like rusty dank water?) and very likely mold growth. There have been so many complaints about this issue on these cars I cannot believe Honda has not issued a recall. Honda either needs to make these cars structurally sound with a repair or somehow make it right with the owners by way of a monetary equivalent to the depreciation of the vehicle due to this structural issue. How in the world can I sell this car with this problem?.

There is a leak that causes water to accumulate in the spare tire well and passenger-side rear floor when it rains or snows. I've found this to be a common problem in online forums for 2007 and 2008 Honda Fit owners.

During rain, water leaks in through the back doors and pools on the rear floor boards. This has led to water damage. This happens no matter what the state of the vehicle (in motion or stationary). Has happened numerous times, unsure of the first time it happened. Noted date below is the most recent occurence.

My car is currently "leaking". There's no other way to describe it. When it rains a pool of water forms in the hatchback where the spare tire is stored. The floor of the back seat gets soaked through with water. Because the water is so excessive, the car is never able full dry out, and mold is forming. I do not have a garage, therefore the car is always subject to the environmental elements. I have serious concerns about exposure to mold growth from this situation. I am pregnant, with a child due in September. I am concerned because my daily commute to work is over 30 minutes each way (over an hour total) and my shift begins so early I always have the windows all the way up (too cold in ohio). I use this car to transport myself everywhere, and once the baby comes I don't feel comfortable exposing an infant to that kind of mold. Its extremely dangerous for children (and people with compromised immune systems, like pregnant women!) to be exposed to mold on a daily basis.

Between this structural issue and the airbag - last time I buy a Honda.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Fit. The contact stated that the rear floorboard in the vehicle contained a large pile of mold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

After a very heavy rainstorm, we found a couple inches of water in the front passenger side floor. Since then even light rains are causing water to accumulate both in the front passenger side and back passenger side floor. It is difficult to remove the water and mold will certainly be starting to form soon.

Rain water is leaking into the interior of the car from multiple entry points. One identified entry point are cracks in the bonding material between the roof and rear upper side panels that allows water into the spare tire well and rear floorboards. Additional water is accumulating in the front passenger footwell from an undetermined location behind the glove box/dash. This has resulted in mildew and mold growth in the interior carpeting, matting and foam. This is a health risk especially to young children and adults with respiratory conditions.

The upper rear panel (where there is a groove where the frame comes together and you could attach a roof rack) on the driver's side separated a little and water came into the car. It soaked the trunk and floor behind the drivers seat. The water also damaged the abs sensors. I had to replace the abs sensors and sort of caulk the gap between the panels. I found out about the problem when my abs light on my dash went on.

After a day of heavy rains, the floor panels in my Honda Fit puddle up with water. The rear floor panels (underneath the passenger seats) in particular pool with water and have started to rust the hinges of the car foldaway seat mechanisms as the fabric liners get soaked with water. My concern here is that mold will build up in my car making my car unsafe to be in. Thank you for reading this.

Driver side door lock cylinder has failed. Honda dealer states it'll be over $300 to fix. Search of the web shows it's a known issue around 100k miles for Honda Fits.

Passenger side front window leaks water when driving at 50-65 mph water enters at very top of window.

Bought used 2008 Fit in Jan/2014. Noted water in driver and rear passenger floors/carpet and doors following rain storm. Took wet car to sheehy Ford in mechanicsville (where I purchased it) within the used warranty. Was told they "could not find cause". Nothing done. Since then and to date (10/30/2015), water continues to accumulate in these areas following rainfall. Musty/mold odor - where is the recall on this issue?.

My son hit a trailer from behind. Truck decided to back up at same time my son took off. Air bags did not go off. Extensive damage to front of car and frame. Son suffered a stiff neck and achy back. The air bags did not work on two accidents t his car has been in.

Have had two blowouts on the same wheel (rear passenger) with different tire brands in less than three years of owning the car (blowouts were 16 months apart, maybe 8k miles). The Honda Fit is not capable of driving on highways! I was traveling at 75 mph, the tire pressure light came on the dash, my car and steering wheel began to vibrate/jerk, car fishtailed, and I was thrown perpendicular into traffic! I was lucky to not be hit by other drivers on the highway as they were able to stop (second time, there were no other cars behind me). This happened twice! these wheels are not safe! NHTSA needs to launch a full investigation.

Structural body water leaks into the rear seat areas and rear cargo areas. Vehicle taken to two south jersey Honda dealerships ( three times ). One dealer stated they couldn't fix the problem. The second sublet the attempted repairs without success. Paid $ 214. 00 to the Honda dealer who sublet the attempted repairs. Leaks occur during a moderate rain fall. . American Honda case number : 042-895-29.

I started building condensation up in my car. I took it to straub Honda in triadelphia, west virginia. They said that it seemed to be a door seal was leaking. They changed the door seal and dried out the whole car. First of all, for a vehicle for not even 18,000 miles on it should not have seals going bad. Then about 2 weeks later it was leaking again. I couldnt even see out of my windows because they were frozen from the inside. When they thawed out, my windows were dripping water onto my dash and doors. I took my car back into straubs again. They said that they had called a number to see if this problem was occurring nationally. He told me that there was some Honda Fits that were doing the same thing and that there was cracking along the hatch of the car and water was running through the interior of the car and settling at the back passenger side of the car. I dont know much about the interior wiring of the car, but I hope there is no wiring that this water traveled through. Now, I have paid $300. 00 out of pocket to fix a problem that is occurring to other Honda Fits as well. If the same thing has happened to ours, than its only a matter of time before there is more occurences. If you would like to get in contact of straubs for any reason, I have that number available also. I also have a picture of what it is like trying to drive the car while the window is defrosting, you cant do anything withn it until it is melted 25 minutes later.

While parked my 2008 Honda Fit has a water leak that can seem to be found. According to internet message boards this seems to be a problem plaguing many if not most 2007-2008 Fit owners. The water leaks and pools on the rear floors causing mold to grow with a strong smell of mildew. When I contacted Honda they told me it would cost approximately $150 per hour to diagnose the problem alone. Instead of that I took it to a local mechanic who could clearly see there was a water issue, but after 2 hours of inspection, could not find the leak. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and should be recalled, especially considering that the carpet has to be replaced to be completely free of the mold. The vehicle has never been in an accident, is not misused, and is serviced regularly (following the recommended Honda maintenance schedule).

This vehicle has been leaking through the door seals completely soaking the rear carpet causing mold to grow and puddles to form. Honda has issued recalls for leaking water into switch areas but denies all knowledge of this issue. Any internet search will bring up hundreds of 2007 and 2008 Honda Fits with this exact problem. This vehicle was purchased new and has never been in any accidents. The mold issue has rendered the vehicle unsafe and lowered any resale value. Dealerships want approximately $400 to just diagnose the problem and the Honda corporation will not help in any way with the problem.

Water leaking through rear hatch weather seal. Originally thought water came through rear hatch whenever I opened it to get things during a storm. I began to realize that water would accumulate when it rained even when the hatch was never opened. I started to hear splashing type sounds thinking it was the fuel or a low coolant level. A few months ago I was vacuuming the car and lifted up the rear floor covering over the tire well and discovered at least two gallons of water almost submerging the spare tire. Shortly afterwards I started to observe water dripping down through a plastic cover that houses a utility hook on the car's ceiling. The headliner also was leaking near the hatch . I now check the tire well after it rains and it never fails that the tire well and surrounding area are wet. I can only use the defrost setting because if I don't the windows will fog up. I have also noticed the rear seat carpeting getting damp even when only the driver's door is used during a storm. The dealership has down played the situation suggesting I have the weather seals replaced by them with a charge for the part and labor. I spoke to Honda of America and they told me to take it to a dealership to be diagnosed for a fee. I have spent several months investigating on my own and have reached my own diagnosis that the weather seals on Honda Fits are defective. I am about ready to trade the car in for something else besides a Honda. I love the car but can only foresee more aggravation down the pike. I am capable of applying silicone caulk under the existing weather seals but will not because I am dissatisfied that Honda has not done anything to fix the problem on all Honda Fits.

I have a 2008 Honda Fit. . . The first indication there was a problem was condensation building up inside on the windows. . . At first I paid no attention and then I realized it was happening way to often. Before I got a chance to contact the dealer I received a recall in the mail for a possible faulty driver's side window problem. Upon cleaning out the vehicle for some reason I looked inside the spare tire well to find water in the spare tire and surrounding area. Took the car to dealer who claimed to have fixed the problem. . . 1 week later my husband checked it again to find there is still water coming into the spare tire section. . . The car is back with the dealer who claims "they can't determine where the leak is". . . I advised them to duplicate the situation by taking the car to a car wash". . .

In addition, mold was growing in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the seal needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to pay for 40 percent of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.
