Vehicle experienced critical ignition system failure while parked - the engine would not turn off despite repeated attempts over 20 minutes. The vehicle has a communication failure between the ignition switch and the body control module/keyless access unit, creating a stuck electronic latch circuit (b12d3 latch error). This is consistent with Honda TSB 20-116. The keyless start system warning appeared on the dashboard. Unable to shut down the vehicle through normal means, I was forced to manually pull the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and then disconnect the battery while the engine was still running. This created an extremely dangerous situation requiring me to work in the engine compartment with live electrical systems. The vehicle lacks proper failsafe shutdown mechanisms. This communication failure and stuck ignition circuit poses serious safety risks including fire hazard, carbon monoxide poisoning if in enclosed space, and electrical system damage. No officially stated emergency stop solutions had worked for this vehicle included the triple press and long press.
Odometer display issue-I’m having an issue where the odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off.
The instrument cluster "flickers" due to a bad connection. This cluster contains the odometer, fuel gauge, and other vehicle information. It does not work at all when the outdoor temperature is cold. I took this to my Honda dealer and they state it was a bad connection and I would have to pay to replace the whole cluster for $1800. This is unacceptable and Honda should have to fix this as it is a known problem - this has the potential to cause an accident for someone to run out of gas in busy traffic. And not being able to see the odometer/mileage or oil life indicator is not acceptable. This has been a life of the car problem which has gotten worse and is no longer working no matter the outside temperature.
The digital instrument cluster in this 2019 Honda Hr-v suddenly failed, resulting in the loss of the speedometer, odometer, and dashboard display functions. The failure occurred without warning and is not due to wear, misuse, or routine maintenance. Operating the vehicle without a functioning speedometer or odometer presents a serious safety risk, including potential speeding, traffic violations, and accidents. Other warning indicators integrated into the digital display may also be inaccessible, further compounding the safety hazard. Honda has diagnosed the problem and quoted a repair cost of $2,166. 08. Goodwill assistance was previously denied in my case, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty and not subject to a recall. The vehicle is regularly used to transport family members, including a pregnant passenger (due March 2026). Continued operation in this condition is unsafe and unacceptable. The fuel gauge on the right hand side malfunctions in cold/wet weather, causing information such as distance until empty, to become illegible. When this happens, the display also flickers rapidly, which may be problematic to some with epilepsy. Here are links to several reddit threads of others who have experienced this: [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The entire odometer and fuel display on the right flickers with random characters and goes dark for long periods of time. Not knowing how much fuel seems to be a problem? took it to the dealer and they indicated this is a common problem but have no remedies.
I bought this car new in 2019. It was never in an accident. While driving normally, the car started throwing warnings saying the lane keep assist has a problem, the collision mitigatuon system hhas a peoblem, the auto high beams have a problem, the road departure system has a problem. I paid Honda in surprise az $210 for a diagnosis and they told me that it needs a new u3000-49 multipurpose camera unit will cost $1,730 to replace and install and possibky another $1,420 for a new srs unit. The car was never in an accident, and both of these should not be breaking after just 5 years of ownership. Clearly the multipurpose camera unit and also likely the srs are defective and should be recalled.
The odometer display/gas gauge goes blank for long periods of time while driving. When I took it to the dealer, they said, “OH yes that is an hrv thing,” so they have seen this before clearly. It is a safety concern to not be able to see the odometer and gas gauge to know when fuel needs to be replaced in the vehicle.
I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so I drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these Hondas have transmission issue.
I’m writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with the instrument cluster on my 2019 Honda Hr-v. Specifically, the far-right section of the cluster — which includes the odometer and fuel gauge — frequently flickers or fails to display entirely. This makes it extremely difficult to monitor fuel levels or mileage, and I’m particularly concerned that the odometer may not be accurately recording the vehicle’s true mileage. After researching this issue, I’ve found that this is a well-documented problem among Hr-v owners, with many attributing the failure to cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. These cracks are believed to result from thermal expansion and contraction, exacerbated by the use of lead-free solder, which is more brittle than traditional alternatives. Given that this issue stems from a design and manufacturing decision — not from any misuse or neglect on my part — I feel strongly that this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect.
Electrical component that controls that stereo and dashboard are going out, almost $2000 to replace this. It controls what indicates the quantity of gas and any safety related information, such as the check engine light, to me as the driver. Without this, I could put people at risk by completely losing gas, since I can’t even track my milage either, as well as possibly causing a safety risk to myself and my family if the car has any safety issues going on, as I wouldn’t know until I took it to the shop.
Vehicle fuel gauge intermittently operates to the point where the fuel gauge goes completely blank, the issue worsens with the onset of cold weather. Dealer will not repair as a defect and estimated a 1500. 00 repair price. This condition can become especially dangerous when operator unable to ascertain fuel level, especially on high speed roadways where vehicle can become disabled due to low fuel levels and vulnerable to being struck by other vehicles. A web based search reveals this is a common customer complaint for this vehicle.
Gas gauge and mileage odometer lighted area blink amon and off and sometimes go out completely for any length of time. Seems more so in colder temperatures.
Speedometer, fuel gauge, mileages, temperature, not showing up on the dashboard! it’s dark when the car it start up! just dark screen on the odometer side. It’s start blinkering when you drive for while. It’s happened to the las 3 years and getting worse this year. It’s happened every morning and fewer times in the evening.
8/9/24 was the first time we noticed the gas/mileage gauge disappearing. It would do this almost everyday for no apparent reason leaving the driver (usually my teenage daughters) not knowing how much gas they had left. This particular disappearance happens on a regular basis which is quite concerning not knowing how much gas you have left. Also on 8/23/24 a light came on that said check fuel cap along with the yellow check engine light, yellow parking brake and flashing park symbol. These lights stayed on minus the fuel cap light for about 3 weeks. They have disappeared with now with only the issue of the disappearing fuel/mileage gauge remaining an off/on issue (but as stated above usually on a daily basis. ) we replaced the fuels cap in case there was an issue and also took it to a Honda dealership on 9/27/24. They didn't check diagnostics as the other icons had turned off, but the gas gauge was still missing. They said it wouldn't show codes since the icons were missing. I also called the Honda corporation regarding this safety issue as there are multiple reports of this happening to others on several Honda forums with Honda hrv ranging from 2016-2020. It usually happens in this manner with the fuel gauge disappearing first then other icons coming off/on.
The car does not have pickup when attempting to accelerate. Driver must drop the gear down to try and force acceleration. Vehicle was taken to dealership and dealer wanted to charge to diagnose the problem. When it was stated that symptoms mimic those outlined in recall, dealer stated they still need to diagnose to see if the repair is needed. After checking dealer claims debris was blocking the pedal and the problem is not related to recall. However, the pedal was clear of any debris and still drives with loss of power when trying to accelerate.
Vehicle gives false brake alert with no obstacle ahead causing car to suddenly brake. This happens multiple times and regularly.
The gauge cluster display will go in and out. There is apparently a faulty solder joint that gets affected in cold weather and until the car is warmed up the gauge cluster stays blank. I was informed that I need a new one at the cost of $1800+ for a 2019 hrv with 24000 miles. It seems very wrong that this part has failed.
Dash guage cluster randomly stops working or appears as scrabble. Includes fuel level, odometer, trip meter, and all extraneous vehicle info. Could result in running out of gas at speed since no info is available. This is very unsafe and I am traveling to florida as I type this.
On random occasions (usually in damp or humid weather) the odometer and fuel gauge will black out. This has happened several times. It will revert to normal operation later.
A dash light indicator came on in my car. The image was not in any of the materials that came with the car. At that time the lcd information on the dash flickered and went out. I cannot see how much gas I have, when I need an oil change, odometers etc. I also seem to have decreased power when I attempt to accelerate . I am also aware of 2 recalls that came out in 2021 and 2023. I had the code read and it indicated an "evaporative system leak detection". As of 5/14/2024 I had 15,828 miles on the car, in about 5 years so it should not be failing. I recently got a new job and am required to commute 50 miles each way. I am so terrified because I have tried the 2 nearest dealers in my area (union park Honda in wilm. De and Honda of springfield PA). I have received zero consideration. I have had my car scheduled to go in and I have to call them as I need a loaner. I never move up on the list and then I am treated like I did not show up (I call the day before). When I was young I had anxiety and could not drive. I worked and pushed myself to be able to drive again and I have been for years. These issues are starting to make me more fearful and anxious. I actually asked the cs rep "jade" where the car was manufactured ( japan, korea?) and if I should drive my car to japan for service. Her exact words were "that is up to you". Unbelievable.
The digital gauge on this vehicle has intermittent faults. The gauge goes totally blank, sometimes the digits appear scrambled, other times not at all. This gauge includes odometer as well as the fuel gauge, (and other analytical information that is perhaps not as critical). The lack of a reliable working fuel gauge on this vehicle is concerning and may cause driver to unknowingly run out of fuel in places that are totally unsafe - highway, bridge, or some remote location. Another concern is that if the odometer is not working, not accumulating miles, how does a buyer know what she/he is buying? is the vehicle mileage accurately reflecting the miles on this car? checking on this on-line I discovered that this is not an isolated problem, and that NHTSA may not be aware of this as car owners may not be reporting this as a safety issue. I also discovered that some Honda dealers have addressed this problem, while others push-back on this and want owners to pay for this repair. I purchased my vehicle three months ago, from a private owner. I was not informed of this problem at time of purchase. I did bring this to Honda's attention and was told to bring it in for service, at my own expense.
Odometer display malfunction. Periodically, the display will go blank or display incorrectly. It also blinks on and off a lot.
Dash guage cluster randomly stops working. Includes fuel level, odometer, trip meter, and all extraneous vehicle info. Could result in running out of gas at speed since no info is available.
The dial where the gas milage, temperature and other information is displayed does not come on at all times. The car is started, the display is blank or the radio screen does not work. I sometimes restart the car-up to 3 times to have the dial come on. This has happened a half a dozen times in the last 5 months. The car is parked overnight and this happens when the car is started the next day. The weather has been very cold (30s/40s) or warm temperatures (62/70). I have spoken with two different Honda dealer employees about this issue. They both said that unless this is happening in real time, any Honda dealer could not help me because their testing would not be accurate if they check the car after it happens. I do not know if it is a loose wire, a battery issue or if the digital panel needs to be replaced. I can not get an answer without a paid service call.
The odometer and other information on that gauge are blank upon starting the car. That includes the fuel gauge, clock, and thermometer. Some fiddling around with the knob eventually brings it back but the total mileage and trip a mileage are lost (I need them for tax purposes). Today it says "range" where the total mileage should be. The second time it happened, nine months later (today), while driving, the numbers and bars/lines became incomplete. They were moving around a bit. After awhile, they came back. I understand that many other hrv drivers have the same problem and that the fix is expensive. I have had the car for two years and drive 1,000+ miles a year.
The electrical component on the dash that shows the gas gauge does not work during cold weather or rain mostly. I have looked this up online and many people have the same complaint.
Odometer (trip/fuel/mpg/time display) works intermittently and often has garbled readouts. When it is not working, distance traveled and fuel level is unknown, creating a safety concern. When the display is completely nonfunctional it is unknown when (or if) it will return to functioning.
Car would not turn off. Says vehicles remote keyless start system problem. Won't shut off vehicle motor. Tried for over 10 minutes to turn off vehicle. Had to risk injury by removing battery terminal cable. It's been 2x it has happen. Honda sounds like recalled or extended warranty for 2016-2018 but not 2019.
There has been an issue with the odometer (trip/fuel/mpg/time display) for my car. There was a factory recall for it and the software had been updated at the end of March or at the beginning of April, 23. However, the same issue has been restarted since last week (around 10/11/23). The odometer (trip/fuel/mpg/time display) is dark when I start my car. After I tapped several times, it was displayed but did not work properly. Also, you can see there is a time display difference between the odometer and the radio. Please see the pictures. Now, the Honda service department wants to charge for the diagnostic fee because the warranty has run out. This is unfair because of the same issue.
The odometer/fuel gauge keeps going out when I’m driving and it’s so scary to not know how much gas I have or how many miles I’ve gone. This has been happening for over a year now.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while attempting to park her vehicle, the vehicle lurched forward independently and accelerated into a tree without warning. The air bags did not deploy upon impact; the contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was not filed; however, the tree was damaged as a result of the crash. The vehicle was towed to a dealer body shop where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was also informed that a diagnostic was performed but no defects were found. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
I was making a 90 degree right turn and had turned my steering wheel the amount needed to make this turn, however, the car direction did not match the amount the wheel was turned and continued to head towards the oncoming traffic lane. I removed my foot from the gas peddle and noticed that even though the radio was still playing, the screen had gone black. A couple seconds later, the screen came back on and the car jerked into the turn, seemingly finally catching up with the steering wheel. I took the car to my mechanic and the diagnostic scan did not show any codes that matched this issue. My mechanic did note that he looked up the issue and found other reports online of the same thing happening to 2019 Hr-vs after heavy rainfall. My incident occurred 3 days after we had so much rain that flash flooding occurred. Honda corporate directed my to the dealership. The Honda dealer I bought the car (in new condition) from, stated they aren't able to troubleshoot unless the codes are there to show the issue.
I'm reporting two issues: 1) the gas gauge (the 3rd circle on instrument panel) keeps going out. Over the 18 months, when starting the car on cold mornings, the gas gauge would show blank, I can't see how much gas I have in the car. After about 10 minutes, the gas gauge information would show up. I initially associated the issue with starting the car in cold weather, but in the last couple of months, the gas gauge will start flickering in & out as I'm driving. These have been on warm days I have been driving at least 30 minutes or more before the issue starts. Nothing unusual happens before the issue starts. The risk part is that you could run out of gas and not know it because you can't see the dial. I asked the dealer to look at the issue when the car was inspected this year and last year and they aren't seeing any error code related to it. 2) the drivers side door lock has on a few occasions been hard to lock from the inside. When I try to push down the lock switch, it is very hard to push and the click sound is very loud with an associated metal grinding sound. It's becomes a risk if I'm not able to lock by car to protect my safety or my possessions.
The car hesitates to start. Its a push to start and the start is slow and takes a minute to actually start. Just wondering if this is an issue w this vehicle itself.
