Exterior Lighting Problems of Honda HR-V

I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my vehicle. The car has exhibited repeated instances of unintended activation while parked and left untouched. Specifically, the entire electrical system—including the dashboard, infotainment, and other electronic components—powers on and off spontaneously without any user interaction. This behavior raises significant safety and reliability concerns, especially when the vehicle is unattended. I am requested for a thorough investigation into this issue to determine the root cause and to ensure that appropriate corrective measures are taken to prevent potential hazards. Honda service center identified the issue is caused by 'body control module'. They even indicated that the fault is in the software and the unit and user has nothing to do with it and asked me to check with Honda company. When I asked the company they said no recalls for this VIN and asked me to file a complaint here. My car has driven only 36k miles and its like a brand new car still. This is not even my fault and its a big safety issue. I ended up paying $1400 for the whole thing since I am in need of a car right now for all the doctor appointments and I didn't even got a rental car while the repair is going on which is like 4 days. This costed me so much money and headache. Also I have seen the same issue reported online by many folks using Honda at that year. Please take the ticket forward as this is a major safety issue. Please help in recall and reimburse my money.

On several occasions the automatic brights have turned on when there were cars at crossroads, and when cars were within sight. The regular lights of the car are repeatedly interfering with visibility of other drivers, as the lights are much too bright and angled right in other driver's eyes. We avoid driving at night due to blinding other vehicles and preventing crashes. We are flashed constantly. The automatic braking has turned on when there were no objects, pedestrians, or cars in front of the vehicle - nearly causing us to get rear-ended by the vehicle behind us. The brakes because sticky after only 16 months of use. The steering is sticky as well.

Dash lighting up and draining battery and not able to start also alarm going off by itself draining battery.

The fuel gage/odometer light in the vehicle cluster goes in and out and turns off randomly, particularly during cold weather/high humidity. It seems like there is a faulty electrical connection behind the fuel cluster. It will go out sometimes for long periods of time without warning.

The headlights seem to high for the vehicle, blinding other drivers, after some research they can be lower, but the dealer does not seem to see that problem.

The instrument panel suddenly went out without warning while driving for no known reason. I was unaware of my speed, gas gauge, oil level, etc. And had to return home. I took it to a mechanic who called the dealership. They said it would be $1700 just for the replacement instrument panel. A quick internet search shows that this is common among Honda hrvs and other similar models. Apparently the solder Honda uses in the factory is not holding up and causing electronic connections to fail. I should not have to pay $1700 plus labor to have a connection resoldered. If they replace it with a "new" instrument panel that will undoubtedly have the same original soldering job, it's just going to come loose again.

Warning light keeps coming on the gauge saying clean windshield or your safety features will not operate. Comes on as soon as I drive car into my garage. Came on even after washed the car by hand. Been to the dealer twice and the second time they changed the camera in the windshield. Light came back on 3 days later. There is an electrical issue because the rear led cargo lights remain glowing even after turning off car. This was also addressed at the dealership. This is definitely a safety concern is my safety features will not operate if “windshield is dirty “. The car has only 1800 miles on it.

Push start/stop button was noting working properly (this had a recall and was replaced). However after it was repaired, I noticed the right-sided gas gauge with service repair numbers, milage etc is not working properly; the gas guage and service repair codes disappear and/or are scrambled. I took this to the Honda dealership in coon rapids, minnesota, and was told by the service advisor (drew mechley) that their mechanic said he doesn't think it is related to the start/stop button repair but this is a common probelm seen with Hr-vs. I also found multiple forums with people experiencing the same issue. . Odometer section of dashboard failed to light up/turn on. Continued to happen after restarting the car. Eventually after running the car for ~20 minutes it started flashing and turned on. If this continues to occur or fails completely/indefinitely, there is a risk of stalling on the road or highway if unable to monitor the gas gauge.

The dial on the dashboard that gives gas tank I do, speed and time do not light up or appear all jumbled if it is below 60 degrees outside. This is not cool.

Every Honda I have had, civic, accord, hrv, have had issues with the driver side sun visor. It will not stay up and it makes seeing out the windshield an issue. Also the rearview mirror developed black marks going across a big one portion of the bottom part of the mirror. Making it difficult to see everything.

Every time I am driving dusk or night, I am being flashed by oncoming drivers as if I have my high beams on. Every time this happens I am using low beams. I am not usually prepared for their brights and it is difficult on my eyes. I have only had the car since November, but it has happened ever time I drive at night. I am sure it is annoying for the oncoming traffic as well, if they think I have my brights on.

My hatch has been filling up with lots of water not too long after I began leasing it and it sloshes around, it is in my rear lights, has made the inside light of my hatch no longer work. Now, water is leaking in from both rear windows and somewhere in through the fabric of the inside back roof area creating a growing water stain and mold. Spare tire well in back also fills up with up to 2 inches of water. Mold, rust, electrical problems and more are the result. Honda has not yet taken care of it although I have had a diagnostic and see that it has been reported here multiple times.

While driving on the interstate all dashboard lights come on including parking brake. After turning engine off, the lights go off and come back on after 5 minutes of driving again. If parking brake is engaged when parked, it is not releasable. Changed battery with Honda battery, issue resolved. 6 months later driving down the interstate and the same thing happens again but this time the door ajar lights and sounds are on and the overhead light is coming on and off while I am driving at night. This is a known issue amongst 2019 hrv's. Dealership does not know what will resolve the issue. They provide coded that says it will be the start of the resolution and code can be ran after these items are fixed to fix the remaining items that might be causing it. $2600 for a not even 3 year old car to be fixed for a known issue???? hrv forums have many people that have spent thousands and the issue is still not resolved. Lights coming on in the car on the road at night are a safety issue. This definitely needs to be addressed. No issues with the vehicle prior and no warning that anything is wrong.

I have a 2016 Hr-v a large amount of water gets trapped inside the rear tail light which can short out the lights if not repaired. I noticed it after hearing water sloshing around every time I opened the rear trunk. This is a manufacturing defect and a definite safety issue for Honda. Problem has been an issue since at least 2017 but nothing has been done. Others have reported this as well. Took it to Honda dealer who claimed no knowledge of any issues like this.

Dashboard light goes dark when driving, I’m told by Honda it is a cluster malfunction not under warranty or recall, my vehicle has under 14,000 miles original owner. Also the tire light indicator stays on.

Multiple times within the past year, especially if it is cooler outside, my car screen for my mileage, gas tank hand, and all of that electrical stuff will completely disappear. When it shows back up most of the time it will have crazy letters and start flashing. The icon with the key has recently popped up on my dash which stands for something being wrong with the system.

To cancel a tire inflation warning at approx. 17,000 miles,I popped the hood of the vehicle to access the negative battery cable with the intention of disconnecting +reconnecting to clear warning. Instead I found both neg. +pos. Cables unsecured to both battery posts. I contacted american Honda to report this defect,request a battery replacement,electrical system test+error code retrieval. This extremely dangerous situation may have permanently damaged the vehicle+despite my numerous calls to Honda,I've yet to receive a response. This is a build, sales+service problem that should not exist on any new vehicle sold. Symptoms prior to discovery=dimming headlamps@idle,poor transmission+engine response,reduced mileage+intermittent burning smell. I was fortunate my vehicle never died in traffic or caught fire. My case number with Honda=05755540. Again, my concern is that the factory in mexico,the selling dealer in temecula and the first servicing deaer in anaheim(@10,000 service)never verified that the battery cables were properly secured for safe operation. My mechanical service experience+dumb luck should not be a substitute for Honda's failure on multiple levels. Short of "I'm very sorry" from the person taking my initial complaint,Honda has done nothing to correct the described problem.

The rear hatch door has water inside of it. Both taillights have condensation in them and you can hear water sloshing around when you open and close the door. Electrical components have started to malfunction due to the water and Honda doesn't care because the warranty has expired.
