Steering problem #1

While driving on highway under 40mph, the brakes and steering wheel locked simultaneously. I was unable to control the car—pressing the foot brake and emergency brake did not stop the car and I could not steer as the wheel was locked. I ended up on the side of the road alongside a wall of snow. The dashboard was lighting up throughout this time with rotating emergency messaging—tpms, transmission, brake system, flat tire, etc. There were no warning messages displayed and complete control of the car was taken away without warning. It was 530am so I was lucky there was no one else on the road or else this could have led to a fatal accident. The car was towed to the dealer and they said it was an electronic brake booster that went bad, but are unsure if this caused both the brake and steering failure. The dealer has not been transparent or helpful. They initially said there was nothing wrong with the car and that it was safe to drive. I reported it to Honda corporate and they have not gotten back—triaged as level 1 incident due to severity.

Steering problem #2

Multiple times in the last year, I would be driving and it felt like my steering wheel would stick when navigating turns on the road, enough so that I would be turning my hands to turn the wheel and I would feel resistance like the car was slightly trying to fight me on the direction I wanted to go. Enough so that myself and others who have driven my vehicle have also noticed the random slight resistance. I can see that there is a recall for this exact problem with the same year make and model for my car, but for some reason my VIN does not come up under recall when I search it, even though I have experienced the problem that is being recalled. I’m worried that it is going to happen at a crucial moment and I would just like to know if my car should in fact be part of the recall list and for some reason is not.

Steering problem #3

While driving, the vehicle experienced a serious steering malfunction. The right front wheel does not respond properly to steering input, while the left wheel responds normally, resulting in uneven steering and loss of directional control. The issue occurred without warning and created an immediate safety risk, especially during turns and lane changes. The vehicle became difficult to control and unsafe to operate. The problem has occurred more than once and is not consistent with normal wear and tear for a vehicle of this age and mileage. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and recommended replacement of the complete steering rack, including inner tie rods, boots, and clamps. The dealership also recommended replacement of the right drive axle due to a damaged outer joint. No warning lights or dashboard messages appeared prior to the failure. The vehicle required inspection and repair due to the safety risk.

Steering problem #4

While driving my Honda Hr-v under normal conditions around noon on Saturday on nc highway 54, the vehicle suddenly illuminated multiple dashboard lights and began to decelerate despite pressing the accelerator. The steering became extremely hard to maneuver, the brakes did not respond, and I was unable to activate the hazard lights due to an electrical malfunction—putting my life and the lives of others in jeopardy. My car gave me no prior warning signs of this issue. It had been serviced at autopark Honda service center on September 19, 2025, including a transmission service, and nothing abnormal (such as debris or metal) was noted or communicated to me. After the incident and I had my car towed to autopark Honda, I was informed that the transmission had failed. I later learned of Honda service bulletin #21-047 (April 27, 2021) concerning premature cvt belt deterioration in 2016–2020 Hr-v models. Despite this known issue, Honda has refused responsibility because my vehicle is about 10 months beyond the 7-year warranty extension. This sudden failure caused complete loss of power, steering, braking, and hazard functions, representing a serious safety risk that warrants investigation.

Steering problem #5

I hit a curb going about 10mph the axel bent and the whole wheel pop off with the shock and everything. It totaled the car I’ve tried to report to Honda no reply.

Steering problem #6

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, after making a turn to the right or the left, the steering wheel failed to return to center as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired at the local dealer under an unknown recall; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

Steering problem #7

I own a 2024 Honda Hr-v. The vehicle developed a steering problem where the steering wheel becomes unusually stiff and difficult to control. Honda issued NHTSA recall 24v-744 for defective steering gearbox components affecting 2023-2025 Honda Hr-v vehicles. My vehicle was manufactured during the same production period referenced in the recall. However, my VIN is not included in the recall even though the symptoms match the defect described by Honda. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and indicated the steering system requires repair estimated at approximately $4,000. Because the defect matches the steering gearbox issue described in recall 24v-744, I believe my vehicle may have the same safety defect but was excluded from the recall. This creates a potential safety risk because steering control can be affected while driving.

Steering problem #8

Steering become stiff and sticky while driving it was sudden and I was unable to turn the steering wheel specifically to the left. The other driver stopped short so an accident was avoided. Brought the car for service and was told there is a gearbox issue with swelling causing stiff/sticky steering and the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. It is the same issue that newer model Honda hrvs have been recalled for. It is a serious safety issue. This car has only 56,000 miles on it. There is no way their safety recall on this exact situation should not be expanded to vehicles prior to 2022. It's a serious safety issue.

Steering problem #9

I have only 40,000 miles on my 2019 Honda hrv. Due to utilizing the lane assist, my rack and pinion, inner tie rod ends and steering shaft assembly have all came lose. When I drive, I can turn my steering wheel to the right and left one inch and the wheels do not move. I need to move my steering wheel more than an inch for the wheels to engage due to everything being faulty and loose. I believe this stems from the vibration caused in the lane assist. I will now need to do a $2,000+ repair on a element of my vehicle that should last between 100,000 - 150,000 miles where my vehicle is only at 40,000 miles. I do not have invoice for the repair yet as I'm shopping around due to high cost. I have a video showing what the incident is, but the form won't allow me to send videos. I'm happy to send that video in a follow up.

My car dealership in route 23 (700 NJ-23, pompton plains, NJ) did not give me any notifications regarding my car recall. I found out myself from the news, so I called route 23 to schedule a service appointment on 11/13/24. Route 23 refused to schedule me, stating that I did not receive any paperwork in the mail from Honda. I emailed my salesperson on Nov 14th, and was told to wait until further notice. I called again on 11/20/24 to follow up on this issue. They once again refused to schedule an appointment for me because they don’t have any parts. They also said that there is no waiting list or expected date for when the parts will become available. Nor did they offer any alternative to the problem. When I addressed my safety concerns, they told me “it’s a waiting game”, and refused to inspect my vehicle, saying “there is nothing we can do”.

While driving on the highway my power steering went out making it extremely hard to control the vehicle. As soon as I left the highway several indicator lights came on saying power steering not working, stop driving and call dealer. Also, accident avoidance not working, lane departure not working, etc. Called Honda roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to a dealer. This was at 6:00pm on a Saturday (Nov 16). Vehicle was inspected on Monday Nov 18 and everything was working fine. The vehicle history showed a drop in battery voltage which Honda believes caused the warnings to go off. I'm concerned that I had no power steering which could have resulted in an accident.

My car has been brought in for service multiple times due to airbag issues. After the initial repair resembling of the car panels was not done correctly forcing me to bring back the vehicle. After this on another occasional a strange rattling noise began to happen while driving the vehicle. This was scheduled for service but then the noise went away. After this another airbag issue came up saying the vehicle had to be taken to the dealer. The dealer was inititally saying the issue could not be duplicated and I could pick up the vehicle. At this point I looked up recalls and found the recall regarding steering and that noises could be attributed to this. I ask the recall be performed and was told it could not be. Another issue was however found with the airbags and repaired. I was told to get vehicle as it was fine. Since then the noise has occurred on 3 seperate occasions. Additionally while driving with lane control the vehicle has 2 twice left lane on highway forcing me to correct. I feel things are being dealt with in a very dishonest way by Honda of America and it is instructing dealers to avoid correctly diagnoising issues and falsling claiming it cannot be duplicated to avoid itself costly repairs.

Steering problem #57

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the steering system appears to have malfunctioned. It is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I felt slight, momentary resistance when turning the steering wheel, mainly to the right. The resistance would then suddenly disappear and the steering wheel then lurched forward up to about 1" in the direction that I was turning the steering wheel, causing a bit of oversteer. I fear that this problem could develop into a full failure of the steering system while driving. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet, although I have a service appointment scheduled with a dealer to discuss and investigate this problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure? no. When did they first appear? 10/3/2024.

Steering problem #59

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated while her daughter was driving 30 mph, the driver attempted to switch lanes to prevent another vehicle from crashing into her vehicle. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized inadvertently, causing the vehicle to drive off the road. The vehicle hit the side walk and drove into the ditch, where the vehicle hit a small hill. The air bags did not deploy. The driver hit her head against the steering wheel and sustained neck and head pain. The contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt failed to retract and to restrain her daughter; however, the front passenger's side seat belt retracted even though the seat was unoccupied. Additionally, the rear driver's side and passenger's side seat belts had extended abnormally. The vehicle automatically dialed 911, and police officers arrived at the scene. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter was able to exit the vehicle and did not seek medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to tipton motor sales, llc(3840 north expy, brownsville, TX 78526), where the front bumper, all the seat belts, the front driver's side tire and unknown suspension parts were replaced due to the damage the vehicle had sustained during the incident. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000(steering), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the insurance company would need to hire an investigator to determine the cause of the accident because the local dealer was not capable of doing so. The failure mileage was approximately 4,441.

Steering problem #60

Sticky steering wheel movement on high speeds and slight turns on road. When the steering wheel is resting in center. And time comes to turn it slightly. The steering wheel feels very resistive. Once overcome the resistance, the steering wheel is soft to turn again. This made my car go out of lane once and once corrected made it over correct. Dangerous situation.

Steering problem #62

I have had a problem with the worm wheel steering box since I first purchased this vehicle. Being new to Honda, I thought driving the vehicle was supposed to be rough and shaky. However, after some time, I knew it was not normal. I first reached out to Honda in September and have consistently gotten the run around. I then made another appointment back in October to report it, then was told there was a recall. I asked if I could make an appointment and they said they have no parts, not sure when they will get parts because its on back-order. I went in again in November and my appointment to have the recall looked at was cancelled, therefore they did just an oil change that day. I followed up during that appointment, and was told, again they are unsure when or if they will get parts for the recall. I drive long distances and living in alaska at very cold temperatures this seems to affect the driving even more. It's at the point of being unsafe to drive. This is a new 2025 Honda hrv, and I am highly disappointed with the service or lack of priority when a Honda customer with a new vehicle is having safety concerns.

Steering problem #63

I am reporting a major steering issue with my relatively new 2024 Honda Hr-v, of which I’ve been driving since September of 2023. I recently started noticing jolting in my steering wheel when making even a slight turn, such as to adjust my positioning in a highway lane. It can best be described as “sticky steering,” and based on recent research I found reports of other Honda consumers complaining about this exact issue. According to this article [xxx] ) it appears to have something to do with a defective steering gear part. This is extremely dangerous to my safety and makes me extremely upset that this is occurring in a practically brand new vehicle. Please help and have Honda do their part in rectifying the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Steering problem #64

There are issues with the steering. While driving on highways the steering becomes a little sticky and jerks the vehicle. This also happens on city streets just not as bad.

Steering problem #65

Recall id# 24v-744 I called 2 Honda dealers saying they haven't got the parts yet and its been 3 months now.

Steering problem #66

So my 2023 Honda Hr-v is experiencing jerky steering. Today, it jerked so hard as I was turning a curve & it almost ran me into a concrete wall.

Steering problem #67

While being driven the steering locked up. It could not be turned. It caused an accident of hitting a parked car. This caused the 2017 Hr-v to be totaled. The steering was back to normal after the event.

Steering problem #68

I purchased the Honda hrv sport in February 2023. Have accumulated only 4,000 miles since mostly on city streets. Whenever I drive my hrv over 5 miles at 45 or 35 miles per hour, the steering wheel intermittently wants to turn right or left and requires more force to counteract than the lane keeping assist. I thought it was the lane keep assist function that was malfunctioning without giving a warning and turned it of. That did not fix the problem. It continues to occur intermittently. The dealer was not able to duplicate.

Steering problem #69

Steering. Risk of crashing. Lundgrens Honda of greenfield, MA. Lundgrens diagnosed and replaced. Steering started creaking in may 2024 slowly got worse to a popping. Took to lundgrens, they diagnosed and replaced. $1925. 44. Diagnosed steering gear assembly worn out at coupler connecting to inner shaft and steering gear box replaced.

Steering problem #70

The steering rack and pinion need to be replaced. It was inspected by a Honda dealership that confirmed this system failed and it is deemed unsafe to drive. The dealership is holding the car and said it cannot be released back to me without signing a release that the car is unsafe to drive. There were no warning lights. The steering wheel progressively began to stick more when I drove, especially at high speeds on the highway. I had to manually turn the wheel back and struggled to hold it in place when driving straight. This started around early- mid may. Car was brought to the dealer on 6/15 and has been held there since then.

Steering problem #71

In our 2024 Honda hrv, if you are holding the steering wheel at 12 and turn it to 12:02 or to 11:58 there is stickiness, once the going past the stickiness there is then a jerk in the wheel.

Steering problem #72

The steering wheel keeps clicking, feels stiff, and hard to move while driving. I felt unsafe driving my vehicle so I took it to the dealership and they said my steering gear box was the problem. The dealership said there weren't any recalls for the steering gear box and that there was 6 other 2023 Honda hrv with the same problem. They said they could order a part for $3000 but because the part is on back order they don't know when my car will be fixed. No warning lights came on.

Steering problem #73

Vehicle is brand new and has is issue where when the steering wheel is straight, the vehicle pulls left often into the direction of opposite traffic. And in order for the vehicle to drive straight, the steering wheel has to be tilted to the right. I have seen identical complaints to this on reddit and people share my concern. It is available for inspection depending on the needs to assess this issue. I took the vehicle for an alignment at the dealership I purchased this vehicle from last week or so and the issue persists exactly as before I dropped off and they seem to not have a fix for this safety issue, making me concern for my safety when driving this vehicle. (ourisman Honda of laurel) this puts me and other drivers at risk! a service member confirmed this issue during a diagnostics drive. The vehicle steering wheel has not been inspected by any party as they have no fix for this safety issue at this time. (potentially a major safety issue) there are no indications of this issue and have seen many owners of the 2024 and 2023 model with this safety concern on online communities. This issue bas appeared since day of purchase of this vehicle on the 20th of March and makes me question my/others safety and my purchase.

Steering problem #74

Steering gear box defective my steering was sticking and pulling me both to the right and left had to keep correcting the steering. The problem was there earlier but thought it could be the lane assist however lane assist was not activated. The problem started out not too bad but got progressively worse. Had to fight steering car to keep on my lane. Took to dealer on March 7th 2024 . They told me car was not safe to drive. So car is on lot at dealers and the part is backordered the eta for part is 9/6/3024 purchased car in july2023 has about 5000 miles. On it now.

Steering problem #75

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact stated that the failure was more significant while turning. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000 (steering); and related the failure to the recall. The contact stated that the failure had become progressively worse. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20.

Steering problem #76

Steering is very sticky electric steering box problem.

Steering problem #77

While driving on the highway, the steering becomes sticky (even with the lane assist off). The steering does not turn back and forth smoothly. It will get stuck in a position, and then release. This has made it nearly impossible to maintain a straight drive path without constantly readjusting the steering wheel. The car shows no maintenance or warning indicators. I feel this is a risk for me and my passengers as well as other drivers. Additionally, this is not a random occurrence; it happens every time I drive the vehicle.

Steering problem #78

Sticky steering: experienced a clunking sound from front drivers side steering the last two weeks. Last night while driving approximately 15mph the steering got stiff then overcorrected, veering off to the left into oncoming traffic. The car came to a rest after hitting a curb and the airbags deployed. Both injuries and damaged sustained. This is the second occurrence of the vehicle suddenly veering off to the left lane.

Steering problem #79

The steering wheel will automatically jerk to the left and right while driving, particularly in cold weather. I had at first thought this was the lane assist, however I turned it off and the it was still happening. While driving on the highway it’s as if the steering wheel is making small motions left and right on its own as I am trying to keep a straight path on the road. It has not put me at any direct safety risks but it is definitely a nuisance and makes the driving experience very annoying. I have not yet taken it to a dealership to be duplicated or inspected, however I have read that there have been multiple reports made to NHTSA about this same issue. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this issue.

Steering problem #80

The car feels like the lane assist is on when its not. When you try to steer it jerks instead of smoothly turning especially on the highway when steering to the left. I feel it’s getting worse.

Steering problem #81

Steering wheel sticks. Need to jerk it out of a what seems like a locked position when driving. Steering wheel jerks while making a clicking sound.

Steering problem #82

While driving the steering wheel is sticking. When you correct it it almost makes the car swerve. 8k miles on this vehicles and many of same complaints.

Steering problem #83

Steering wheel binds or sticks. Problem occurs whether rolling or at a stop. Can hear audible thump when turning wheel while vehicle is stopped. There are no warning lamps or other symptoms indications. Problem causes inadvertent over-correction to the point of lane departure. Happens at all speeds. Problem worsens when vehicle is loaded down. Problem has existed since delivery. Problem has been reproduced by my dealer who has ordered a new steering rack assembly. Part is on back order so whether this will correct the problem is unknown at this time.

Steering problem #84

While driving the vehicle at any speed, the steering wheel sticks when trying to make even the slightest movement. No warning lamps or malfunction codes appear on the instrument panel when this is happening. Additional effort is needed by the driver to overcome the sticking behavior. I took the vehicle my local Honda dealer in selma, TX and they were able to replicate the problem. They recommended replacing the eps gear box (rack and pinion) however the part is on critical backorder with american Honda. No timeframe is currently available on the availability of this part. The vehicle is driven by daughter and I am very concerned that this issue could cause her to loose control of the vehicle causing injury to her and other drivers around her. At the dealership I was advised to call american Honda because there is nothing they can do. I will be calling the manufacturer to report this issue and find out if a replacement vehicle can be provided and if not then perhaps a loaner while the vehicle is repaired. I would recommend creating a recall for this safety issue. I have read in various online forums that this is common issue with this vehicle.

Steering problem #85

Sticky steering. Steering wheel provides resistance when turned and causes sudden jerky changes in direction of travel. Even though direction change is minimal it causes constant steering wheel adjustment. The symptom occurs at all speeds from a slow roll to highway speeds. Vehicle has 10,890 miles on it.

Steering problem #86

Steering is sticky. Causes erratic steering especially at highway speeds. Dealer inspected an stated it was normal. No lights or warnings. We feel its unsafe and sold it back to the dealer.

Steering problem #87

Steering sticks, which has to be overcome causing the steering wheel to jerk resulting in over-correction, especially at highway speeds (with and without lkas activated). Steering does not feel centered.

Steering problem #88

Steering wheel gets sticky/jerky when going on interstate now. Sometimes I need to over correct for it to unstick, which could be a huge safety risk.

Steering problem #89

The vehicle steering is sticking. The power steering rack is sticking when turning the wheel in either direction. Safety is compromised because steering is not easy. The dealer confirmed this problem and recommended replacement of the electric power steering rack after they found the same issue. No warning lamps. The dealer said part is on backorder until April and indicated I should take the car home, which I declined. They provided a loaner car after I insisted the car was unsafe.

Steering problem #90

Steering has become jerky and sticks in the last two weeks…makes it very hard to drive and feels unsafe. We turned off the lane assist to see if that helped but no different. Diagnostic test was done today but results not yet confirmed. Was told it was “safe@ to drive but power steering warning light came on twice on my 15 minute drive home.

Steering problem #91

The problem is related to steering. Steering wheel sticks at any speed but gets more hazardous as speed increases. Potential for accidental over steering— causing difficulties staying in lane. Accident did not occur, but steering problem could easily cause one.

Steering problem #92

Rear glass just shattered nothing provoked it just broken sitting in driveway & steering tighting up while driving cause wheel too jerk when driving.

Steering problem #93

We purchased this Hr-v last year for my son. He has been driving it back and forth to school at a max of 35mph most of the time. We had to drive to birmingham and probably the first time actually at speeds of 55mph or more. The steering didn't feel right. It seemed as if it was sticking in it's current position and took more effort to turn it, when it would finally turn it felt like it would ratchet over. I watched it carefully throughout the drive. When we got home, I took the vehicle in to the dealer for its first service, to accomplish a safety recall on the seat belts and asked them to look at the steering as well. It appears that this vehicle was having the same failure of the steering gearbox that has affected civic, cr-v and Acura integra models prompting a recall. And in fact, as we are waiting for the dealer to repair this vehicle with less than 4000 miles, they confirmed this gearbox is not available because it is the same gearbox as those models use. My concern is that this problem is affecting this model of vehicle as well, and probably any vehicle that has this same part.

Steering problem #94

I have steering issues and it is worse in the colder weather. Like sticky steering. I noticed it soon after I bought the car and then it seemed to go away but now steering is weird all the time and I only have 9,000 miles on the car.

Steering problem #95

When I am driving my 2023 Honda hrv my steering wheel becomes sticky and jerky. By being sticky I have to jerk the sterring wheel and that makes the vehilce swerve a bit. I have spoke to the delearship and was advised that they have not gotten any recalls for that issue. There was no messages and this started sometime in September of 2023. I see on the Honda hrv forum, that there are several others that are having this issue.

Steering problem #96

The steering wheel effectively sticks at any speed, especially at the home position. It takes a meaningful amount of force to move the steering wheel once stuck, creating a safety hazard. I noticed this while driving the car, who we bought for our son, creating even more of an issue for him being a new driver. It’s my understanding this is a known issue with the civic and other models. It does need to be addressed before someone gets hurt.

Steering problem #97

During a short drip in August 2023 was the first time I noticed the steering "freezing" on the highway and jolting when I tried to control it. I had to use considerable force to hold and direct the steering throughout the trip and back. Still, on the trip, it sometimes felt as if the vehicle was floating and the steering had no grip. It was such a risky and exhausting trip for me because of this problem. On November 30th, 2023, I was on the highway again and experienced it. The steering felt stiff and at times, the front wheels felt like they were being magnetically pulled away in a different direction. I felt so unsafe with other fast-moving vehicles on every side as I struggled to keep the steering aligned. I had to use a good amount of force to grip and direct the steering and found myself praying for safety as I drove. It was certainly hazardous as it could endanger my life and those of others. I called the dealership to lay a complaint. They asked me to bring the car over to them, but I am in a different location and frightened to drive the car for hours to them and then more hours from there back to my base. I asked if I could take it to a nearby dealership but was told I'd have to pay hundreds of dollars for diagnostics. If they could direct me to a nearby dealership to run diagnostics for free, I would be willing to do that. There have not been warning signs indicated by the vehicle so far. I got this car in March and it has less than 3000 miles on it. I don't know what to do. I feel as if I've made a mistake purchasing it.

Steering problem #98

Power steering pressure seems to build up and stick forcing you to break the steering wheel pressure in short, jerky motions. Lane assist is off. Seems unsafe in wet or icy conditions.

Steering problem #99

Steering is jerking available for inspection. The jerking of the steering wheel does not allow the car to stay in its driving lane and requires constant over steering to stay in a highway lane. This is the first step in reporting the issue and will be reaching out to american Honda and other parties to address this issue as we are financing this new purchase which was purchased in early June of 2023. No warning lights are displayed in the Honda Hr-v and no messages are occurring while operating this car. This started on 11/22/2023 and is still occurring as of 11/24/23. This is a very dangerous situation.

Steering problem #100

Highway or city streets the car drifts and the steering sticks when you correct the drift. This is a safety hazard, if it jerks too much when correcting it could drift into the opposite lane causing a crash. I bought my Hr-v in March of 2023 and it was fine until my low tire pressure sensor triggered. We couldn't find an issue with the tires so we recalibrated the sensor and after that the steering started to stick. I brought it to the dealer and they couldn't find any issues at that time. Over the last couple of weeks it's gotten worse, I called my dealer again and they said they've had to replace two steering racks on the hrv due to this problem. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists.

Steering problem #101

My steering has become sticky especially during highway driving when trying to stay in my lane. The stickiness makes me have to use extra force which then ends up making a jerky feel and over correcting. The drive is not smooth and feels unsafe for me as well as other vehicles on the road due to the potential of ending up in someone else’s lane. I will be taking my vehicle to the Honda dealer today. No warning lamps or messages have been shown.

Steering problem #102

The steering sticks and takes more effort to move the steering wheel. When making a turn, the steering wheel does not return to the neutral position and stays at the angle of the turn.

Steering problem #103

When driving at highway speed (65mph), attempted to make subtly changes to stay within the center of my lane. When trying to do this, the steering wheel "ticks" or "jerks" instead of smoothly adapting. When keeping within my lane while the highway lane curved, I was able to stay in it, but every adjustment to stay in the middle of the lane during the curve ticked and almost over corrected, making it difficult to navigate smoothly. I am constantly adjusting due to the over correction of the tick/jerk. This issue seemed to go away after slowing down to 35mph, but happened again at any higher speed. No warnings/messages/ or symptoms made themselves known prior to this event. Has yet to be taken to the dealer for this issue but planning to schedule an appointment after the thanksgiving holiday. Unable to take my car on an elongated car ride as the problem causes stress to the driver.

Steering problem #104

Car was bought in November/December 2022. Honda was experiencing supply chain issues so had to wait to get a new 2023 model. Around November 2023, the rear windshield glass exploted and shuttered. At first I was told by Honda that they have never heard of that issue; but when I told them that I went to google and the same situation is happening all over USA, then they said, yes, we know about the problem on this model. They fixed at no cost to me and they provided a rental car as well. I told them that prior to the explosion there was a strong burning smell - later they told me there was probably fumes leaking from the rear windshield glass that was about to explode. In addition, this new car has had a recall (something about the driver's safety belt) and I also mentioned that the steering wheel makes a noise when it goes left or right. . . The steering wheel feel heavy too. I was then told that that is another issue that certain Honda models are also experiencing. To repair that it will take 6 months for the replacement part to come from asia so they were not sure if I was able to just keep driving the car (safely) after I made the decision for them to order the part or I needed to leave my car in their dealer for the length of time until the part arrived. Too many things are happening with the new car. . . I just want to get a replacement vehicle.

Steering problem #105

Steering wheel at times will momentarily get stuck and require added force to overcome resistance. This happens every time the vehicle is driven but it is mostly suttle. On one occasion correction resulted in the vehicle leaving the lane I was traveling in. There were no warning notifications from the vehicle.

Steering problem #106

The steering is sticking. It started around 4,000 miles and has gotten progressively worse at now 9,000 miles. It makes the vehicle very difficult to drive and very dangerous in rainy conditions because I am afraid it is going to slide having to snatch the steering out of a curve on a wet road! it's like a build up of pressure where the steering wheel wants you to go in one direction and you have to break it free to be able to turn. It is a constant battle, even on straight roads. Just a constant jerking motion to even drive it straight! I travel a road every day with 4 round-a-bouts and I have to break the steering out of the curve every time. If I am sitting at a dead stop with my hand resting on the steering wheel, it's like after a few seconds the pressure breaks free and it allows the steering wheel to turn and my hand to fall to the side with it. I have never encountered such a thing! I hate it! it is dangerous! I cannot believe I have a new vehicle that I absolutely hate to drive because of this!!!!!!!!!!!!! there wasn't an incident but I am putting 11/15/2023 below because that is when I had to drive it in the rain out of town and was literally terrified at the way it drove! I don't remember the exact date it started but I remember that day for sure!.

Steering problem #107

Steering sticks when turning the wheel giving a jerking feel.

Steering problem #108

When driving, at any speed, the steering sticks when trying to correct within the lane. If I'm driving straight and the car drifts a bit, it takes more effort to make minor corrections. I've seen reports that this happens more during colder weather. My concern is that this is my daughter's car and I fear this could cause an accident if the roads are wet or it takes even more effort than normal to correct and she over corrects. We have an appointment with our dealer on Monday. There are no warnings for this in the vehicle.

Steering problem #109

I can feel my steering wheel sticking to the left and right. It's not the lane departure assist, it just sticks. I've taken it to my dealership twice and both times they admit they feel it sticking but says they don't have an answer. Looking this up, it sounds like there are several other Hr-v owners with the same problem. Driving on a highway in a windy city, it takes a lot to control the car but makes it way worse when the steering wheel sticks. I feel like this is a major safety issue and Honda won't do anything about it. This happens all the time, not just once. You can feel it while in park or while driving.

Steering problem #110

Steering is very sticky and feels like pressure builds up while driving. Several times I've been in a situation where I have to jerk the steering wheel because it "locks" up and feels like your trying to pull apart magnets. The Honda dealership says they can't duplicate the issue. American Honda is ridiculous and won't help at all. I'm having a lemon law attorney currently review this issue along with other issues I've had with the hrv. This car is a total disappointment and unsafe in so many ways and Honda knows exactly what's going on they just aren't doing anything about it.

Steering problem #111

I have a 2023 Hr-v 5dr 2wd ex-l 5800k miles - bought 3/18/2023 took my vehicle into my dealership to let them know I am having an issue with my steering as it sticks and then jerks when driving at any speed.

Steering problem #112

At higher speeds steering wheel sticks and requires higher than normal force to break it free. I tried turning off all safety features to no avail.

Steering problem #113

The steering is sticking and jerky without the lane assist, especially when it's cold out. Instead of normal smooth steering correction while driving, it builds up pressure while trying to correct, then it feels like a slip, then a jerk. It makes me feel very unsafe and I always now have to have a firm grip on the wheel.

Steering problem #114

The steering wheel "sticks". Lane control is off and when driving and making any slight adjustments or beginning to turn, you have to break a slight sticking of the wheel. When stopped the steering wheel does not stick.

Steering problem #115

My hrv has a twitching like feeling in the steering and steering sticks going around curves on the freeway. Sometimes when just driving straight I can feel the steering wheel jerking to the right. Fuel gauge is totally off. I can get to around 70miles of range left fuel light comes on and I drive about 2-3 miles and that 70 miles of range will drop to 26 miles of range. I fill up around 12miles of range left and it only take around 10. 5 gallons to fill it up which the tank is suppose to hold 14gallons of gas. Cvt transmission is very jerky. Jerks more in cold weather and coming to a complete stop I get a very pronounced jerk.

Steering problem #116

Intermittently, the steering wheel feels 'sticky' and any steering adjustments feel jerky. It's as if pressure builds up preventing typical steering adjustments from feeling smooth as they should. I just started experiencing the problem recently again when the temperature dropped below 70f. The problem also seems worse when driving on the highway, which is particularly concerning. Yes, I think Honda needs to address this for safety. Simple lane changes and steering adjustments should not be this difficult. I have owned over a dozen vehicles, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. Especially with a vehicle with less than 20k on it.

Steering problem #117

Steering is 'sticky', the steering wheel occasionally gets stuck and overcompensates.

Steering problem #118

The steering is jerky and clunky at all times - whether the lane departure feature is on or not. The steering wheel requires more effort to overcome needed correction. I have read others have reported the same problem.

Steering problem #119

I have noticed while driving straight I can feel the steering wheel jerking and slightly pulling. Almost feels like the steering is trying to correct itself while driving even though I'm going straight and no steering assist is on.

Steering problem #120

As you increase your speed your steering wheel becomes hard to steer. It acts like it gets stuck. Almost caused an accident as wheel would not respond quickly.

Steering problem #121

2023 Honda hrv I have a sticking steering wheel. It seems to happen in colder wet weather. The steering wheel seems to kind of get stuck, and you have to really pull to get it to free up, but then on the next turn of the wheel, it sticks again. So it’s a constant battle. For me it happens at higher speeds, 55mph or higher. This has been happening about a month. I made an appt with my Honda dealer, they couldn’t find anything wrong, no codes. They gave me no invoice.

Steering problem #122

When trying to correct steering and to maintain position in a lane, the steering will stick. I must use additional force to turn the wheel, which leads to overcorrection.

Steering problem #123

This vehicle was purchased new, (03/03/2023). At 5,460 miles (10/23/2023) returned to the dealership with steering complaint. Steering is sticky and seems to lock up at highway speeds. In order to turn the steering wheel when this happens you must apply additional pressure left or right to move the steering wheel pasted this condition which could cause an oversteer situation at higher speeds. Dealership test drove vehicle and was unable to duplicate condition. Vehicle now has 8,973 miles and condition is still present!! there are no warning lamps or messages to indicate referenced problem. Vehicle is available for any inspection to verify .

Steering problem #124

Steering wheel sticks when temperature is cooler and driving on highway. No warning lights come on and no accidents.

Steering problem #125

The steering wheel sticks when traveling straight. In order to maneuver the wheel a bit to stay in the lanes you have to jerk the wheel. It is not smooth but sticks and need to jerk the wheel.

Steering problem #126

No incident has happened yet. The issue I am having is with the steering. When driving, it seems as though the steering is almost sticking and when it finally adjusts, it does like a small jerk. It's almost like the car doesn't want you to turn or adjust the steering at all and wants you to stay straight. Seems worse now that it's getting cold outside, but it could be that it's just getting worse with time. I'm worried about how its going to drive when it's raining outside. I took it to the dealer and the service advisor blamed it on my car getting hit when it was parked and said that it had to do with that. The damage to my car was very minimal and didn't affect anything other than cosmetics. When I told him that I started feeling this sticking feeling with the steering wheel, he said that it had nothing to do with Honda. I thought maybe it was all in my head, but the more I drive it, the more I know that there is actually something wrong. Today I did some research and it turns out that I'm not the only one having the issue. Obviously, this needs to be investigated before someone gets hurt or possibly even killed. It's definitely a safety issue. Please look into this!!.

Steering problem #127

The steering wheel gets “sticky” when driving straight. An incident has not happened yet but it makes me uneasy to drive bc at times I have to jerk the steering wheel which can potentially cause over correcting. There are not any warning lights and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Steering problem #128

My car is under 10,000 miles and I've had it since November 2023, and in August 2023, the steering wheel began to feel "sticky" and has ever since then. The steering wheel feels jerky when driving at no particular speed and acts up randomly, but I have noticed it is becoming more pronounced. I notice it when I'm driving straight in my lane, and have not felt it when making a lane change or turning. At some point it's like the steering wheel is met with such resistance when steering, I have to use an abnormal amount of effort to move the steering wheel just to stay in my lane. Sometimes, when having the car parked, if you slightly move the wheel back and forth, you can feel the stickiness, and even here the wheel getting stuck. The steering wheel does not feel smooth when driving. I did bring it to a Honda dealership a couple of times this past month and the technician was unable to detect an issue when running a diagnostics test. My car did not show any warning indicators.

Steering problem #129

Engine failed to start when turning the key in the ignition. Occurred three separate occasions within 30 days @ 18,000. Engine light and electronic steering system lights remained on. Vehicle started after waiting one hour. On the third occasion, the car was towed to the dealer, and a service advisor experienced the same issue. However, 30 minutes later, a mechanic was able to start the engine at every attempt. There were no warning lights, other than the lights remaining on the dashboard when attempting to turn the key. (I have video of the experience - please see photo). I am submitting this notice because on all 3 occasions, Honda dealer performed diagnostics, but could not find an issue that caused the failed start. I was reluctant to keep a car with a problem that statistically would reoccur in the future, or perhaps might experience an even worse electrical problem. The dealer "bought" the car back, and sold me a 2024 - same model. There were some additional costs and of course the interest rate was higher. I agreed to all of the conditions for the new purchase, and I believe the dealer did right by me with the purchase of the newer model. However, 3 days after I purchased the 2024 Hr-v, the dealer put the 2022 Hr-v on the lot and is attempting to resell it. I find this wrong and possibly a risk to the new owner. I have every reason to believe the issue for the faulty electrical system was not discovered over the short time (3 days) from when I turned in the car, and when I saw it on the lot for resell. Other than the electrical issue, the vehicle was very reliable and I took very good care with it. If not for anticipating the problem would reoccur when I was driving or wouldn't start in an emergency, or perhaps reoccur after the warranty expired, I traded it in to the dealer and purchased a new 2024 model. Thank you.

Steering problem #130

While driving in the freeway trying to exiting all of sudden I feel my steering wheel move itself toward the curve and trying to break and steer itself at the same causing my vehicle to crash agaist the curve and go to on top making me loose control of steering wheel and crashing to the car infront of me, also the airbags didn't deploy at all, seatbelt did not protect me at all it was loose, I ended injur my head I requred going to the abulance to the emergency room. Police report was made and reported to my car insurance.

Steering problem #131

The steering is sticky and jerky at highway speeds. I can overpower it but it is annoying and makes it unsafe to drive.

Steering problem #132

We bought this 2023 Hr-v on December 31, 2023 and it currently has 14,343 on the odometer. About 5,000 miles ago (roughly) we started noticing that the steering feels "sticky" even with the lane assist feature disabled. It is especially noticeable around corners, but it happens at slower speeds as well as faster speeds. It doesn't prevent us from turning the steering wheel and keeping the car centered in the lane, but it does take more effort than normal.

Steering problem #133

Steering feel sticking after 45 minutes driving.

Steering problem #134

My 2024 Honda Hr-v has a jerky steering problem when I drive on the freeway is when it happens a lot specially when going in a curve. When my steering wheel gets stuck it causes my Honda to swerve and its dangerous because I don't want to hit a car next to me. I took it to the Honda dealer 3x and they keep telling me nothing is wrong.

Steering problem #135

I was making a 90 degree right turn and had turned my steering wheel the amount needed to make this turn, however, the car direction did not match the amount the wheel was turned and continued to head towards the oncoming traffic lane. I removed my foot from the gas peddle and noticed that even though the radio was still playing, the screen had gone black. A couple seconds later, the screen came back on and the car jerked into the turn, seemingly finally catching up with the steering wheel. I took the car to my mechanic and the diagnostic scan did not show any codes that matched this issue. My mechanic did note that he looked up the issue and found other reports online of the same thing happening to 2019 Hr-vs after heavy rainfall. My incident occurred 3 days after we had so much rain that flash flooding occurred. Honda corporate directed my to the dealership. The Honda dealer I bought the car (in new condition) from, stated they aren't able to troubleshoot unless the codes are there to show the issue.

Steering problem #136

Issues: sunroof leaks heavily: during the rain and in car washes, into the backseat, which is ruined now from the constant leaking this past winter 2022-23 *sunroof replaced 3/2023 continues to leak heavily weather strips: doors lacking weather strips, or the weather strips are so loose and loosely connected, it serves very little purpose, I. E. , the seal attaches loosely to widely spread intermittent hooks, these are not attached securely and leak significantly. Brought to Honda: never repaired steering: severe instability when both turning and accelleration!! very dangerous when making a left hand turn from a stopped position!! this happens daily! body parts: cheaply made, put together incorrectly by the manufacturer Honda in mexico, e. G. , Honda is completely aware of the plethora of body defects, including the sunroof. According to Honda service manager ukiah CA. Brake system: very poor, I would caution the need to slam on the brakes as they take much to long to engage.

Steering problem #137

Steering on my 2023 Honda hrv sport is trouble. While driving the car it pulls to the left and you have to hold the steering wheel tight with two hands to keep for having an accident. Honda dealer won’t fix the problem.

Steering problem #138

**I have made the dealership aware of the ongoing situation as well as Honda corporate but I am waiting on a call back. * a month ago, I had my car on cruise control going around 76mph on flat land. After a while, while driving on flat land, my rpm's shot up to almost 6000 and the speed got up to 88mph in less than 10 seconds. I pulled over, shut the car off so I could calm down before driving again. Later that day, I was driving around 77mph on the interstate again but this time I was not using cruise control and my car dropped to around 50mph almost immediately, even with my foot on the pedal all the way to the floor but the car would not accelerate. During this time the car jerked forward really hard (I was told the cvt is why) but also multiple dash lights came on. I had picture and video proof of this, took it to the dealership but they could not find any reason. Since this day, my car has lost speed multiple times while driving but the steering wheel has started locking up the last few times making it impossible to even steer and get off of the roadway while the car is dropping speed. This is a huge liability for myself with my children in the car as well as other drivers on the road, as I was almost rear-ended by an 18 wheeler yesterday when this happened. It does not do this consistently but over the past month, it has happened about 4-5 times a week, sometimes more.

Steering problem #139

I have a 2023 hrv awd. We test drove it and bought it with the lane assist on. We had never had a vehicle with lane assist and thought it was something we needed to get accustomed to using. It grew irritating so I turned it off. We soon realized it was something else. The steering would stick and jerk. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and cannot be driven in rain or snow. We reported it in January and were told Honda is aware of the issue and working to fix it. In March I took it in for service and asked what was taking so long. They wanted to wait until I brought it back in, to file a report. So on may 3, they told me they're waiting for the Honda district manager to contact them, and they're still waiting. Twice they have test driven it and agreed there is a problem. In January they even test drove a new hrv, after turning off the lane assist, on the lot with the same problem.

Steering problem #140

Rack and pinion failing. Jerky and hard steering. I took it in to Honda and they told me it was the rack and pinion and the part wouldn’t be in until may 2023. They continued to have me drive it and told me it was safe to drive.

Steering problem #141

At highway speeds the car drifts and the steering sticks severely when you correct the drift. The problem happens both to the right and left. I bought my Hr-v in June of 2022 and it was fine until December 2022 (about 1800 miles). It was really bad for about 3 months then got a little better. I’ve noticed it getting worse again as winter approaches. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists. The Honda dealer has no idea what is causing the problem.

Steering problem #142

When driven especially in cold weather the steering feels like it sticks or jerks when making minimum movements. Which feels like it does not track or have to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction. Happens when driving and standstill. This may be related to the current Honda steering recall.

Steering problem #143

The contact a 2023 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximate 65 mph, the steering wheel was jerking and sticky. The contact stated that her husband had to forcibly hold the steering wheel. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that when the failure first occurred the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis or repair as the contact thought that the failure was related lane assist feature. However, the failure continued at was taken to a dealer where the failure cause was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee but the contact had the technician check all the vehicle safety features to make sure they were operating correctly. The vehicle was then taken to the vehicle was then bud clary Honda of moses lake (1200 s pioneer way suite a, moses lake, wa 98837) where the failure was diagnosed as a eps gear box malfunction and the box needed replacement. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired as the part was on back order. The manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

Steering problem #144

My vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway without any warning. This was a very scary and dangerous experience. After the engine completely stopped and I tried turning on a symbol of steering wheel and an exclamation came on. Only thing to note is that we were using the cruise control at that time. My vehicle was completely disabled and had to be towed. The Honda dealer said it was nothing based on diagnostics and they're not sure why this happened.

Steering problem #145

Today at 1:30pm the car completely stopped. When the car was turned on the lights and electronic panel was showing in yellow and flashed rapidly. The car completely stopped, but the lights and electronics kept flashing. The systems on the electronic panel kept flashing and the car will not start. One week ago, I noticed when I started the car, the car shook and the engine struggled to start, the lights on the electronic panel flashed but they stopped and I was able to drive it. This is the third time that I noticed the flashing lights, in addition, I noticed for a few months that during driving, the steering wheel has become more difficult to turn when I was making turns. It was as if the car had no wowed steering capabilities and it continued up to this point. Also, I noticed that the car drove as if it was losing its brakes. I'm sorely disappointed with this vehicle because it is fairly new with less than 8200 miles on it. I bought it for my retirement and now I think that it will become the early death of me. I noticed that there were recalls on this vehicle for these very issues and I need my car fixed ASAP.

Steering problem #146

My dad had a terrible accident last night. He said there seems to have a problem with brake. While he applied the brake to slow down before taking the exit 9 on I-395, the brake was slipped and steering was locked. As a result, he hit a guard rail pretty strong and the front of the car was damaged badly. Liquid were leaking and the car was towed, but air bag didn't deploy. He also mentioned that there was a few times the car doesn't start while pressing the brake, so he had to press the brake harder, and sometimes the brake slipped while driving.

The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 5. The VIN was not available.

Steering problem #149

I was experiencing an issue with a brand new lease I acquired 3 months ago. The senors on the dashboard lit up and the steering wheel began to lock up while driving. I phoned Honda around 10 am and after being transferred several times was told there was nothing they could do to accommodate me until the car was diagnosed which was understandable. 3 days later I was told rodents chewed through my wires in the engine harness and it would not be covered by my 3-month-old warranty. Unfortunately for me, I was unaware that Honda wraps all of its wires with a soy-based product that attracts rodents but Honda will not cover the expense nor will they re-wrap the wires with a repellant that they sell unless you purchase it first.

Steering problem #150

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Honda Hr-v. While driving 5 mph, the steering wheel seized intermittently without warning. Also, the instrument panel made an abnormal clicking sound and the screen went blank. Lastly, the vehicle hesitated occasionally when placed in drive. When the contact shifted into drive, the accelerator pedal remained stuck. The vehicle was towed to coral springs Honda (9400 w atlantic blvd, coral springs, FL 33071,(954) 369-4679) where it was diagnosed that the electrical system needed maintenance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Steering problem #151

Bought vehicle brand new in may 2017. Around 1000 miles it started pulling to the left no matter what road I was on. Took to Honda dealer twice and they performed two alignments and realigned the steering wheel - they said the alignment is within Honda's requirements. Vehicle still pulls to the left. If I let go of the wheel at all it jerks to the left. Talked to service manager at dealer and am bringing the car back for a test drive.

Steering problem #152

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Hr-v. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, there had been an alignment issue. The contact stated that it was difficult to keep the vehicle driving in the same lane. The contact also stated that if the steering wheel was not securely held, the vehicle would pull to the left or the right. The vehicle was taken to victory Honda (located at 1605 n. Monroe street, monroe, mi 48162, tel: (888)714-7803) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was also taken to two independent mechanics who performed alignments, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer stated that based on the diagnostic testing from victory Honda, the vehicle was operating as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 1,106. . . Updated 07/31/17.
