Radio/infotainment touchscreen often freezes up and has phantom inputs, which can exit navigation and change the audio source. This causes huge distraction to the driver. The frustrating thing about this is that it's an intermittent issue, so the service center can't replicate it when I bring it in. This has been an ongoing issue with many 3rd generation Insights, and I was told by the service center that Honda has an internal investigation going. I have brought my vehicle in to multiple service centers and none have been able to replicate or fix the issue.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Insight. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted and decelerated to 5 mph with the brake warning light illuminated. Despite the failure, the contact was able to resume normal driving functionality. The dealer was contacted about the failure and acknowledged that the issue was a known failure. The contact was provided an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

Experiencing a dead or faulty battery issue in my 2022 Honda Insight. I called the Honda dealership to see if I could charge the battery from the points noted in the owners manual. The service representative said yes. Charged the battery to 100% and proceeded directly to the dealership for service. During the drive to the dealership I experienced the dashboard lights and annunciation display with errors. Tpms, electric steering, brakes, traction control, and to see my dealer. “on my way”… during the repair process and extended waiting period of about 2 hours. It was initially determined the steering wheel was “not centered”, cocked to the left, and would need a wheel alignment. How much is that $179. You must have hit a curb or something. No I did not, and would seek a second opinion first before I allowed that service. Let’s fix the battery and dashboard light error lights first. Proceeding the battery was determined faulty, testing at 95 cca and would be replaced under warranty. But, upon test driving the car it was still having a traction control skid type light coming on and off, and a diagnostic fee of $158 may be required. I said, shouldn’t that be an issue related to the battery going bad and causing or the cause of the traction control light? we’ll have to see, he said. I asked to speak to the manager and decided I was at tge mercy of the dealership to find a resolve and authorized service. Upon researching on the internet, during my waiting period for the battery change, I learned their is a “steering angle sensor” located under the steering wheel that my need recalibration to resolve the offset steering wheel observation of the service representative. The cause of this need for recalibration may be because of a collision, remove/replacement of a battery. The recalibration requires a special diagnostic electronic device to interface with the cars computer(s). The receipt for service said “calibrated system”.

I was going home from work in my Honda Insight 2019 and all of a sudden my car started showing all kings of warnings every single indicator was on and my car started to spin and hit the side railing of the highway I almost died that day no airbags deployed that is also an other safety function did work that day. Honda refuse to take any kind of responsibility for the car malfunction I called and ask for help they said go ahead buy a new car we can't help you with anything. My request to the department is take a action against Honda so no other family or any other driver go through this. And no one lose love ones.

I experienced "rough running" of my 2013 Honda Insight just prior to August of 2021. Initial work on the vehicle helped, but repairs became increasingly expensive and extensive. A simple oil change on about 8/2/2021 (mileage at 64,545). At about mileage 68,370 the vehicle failed again (showing check engine light / stalling); repair shop found a misfire on cylinder #4, and all 8 of the spark plugs were replaced.  then on/about Nov. /2022 (mileage at 71,988), the vehicle was running rough again (with check engine light on) and the repair shop found a miss in cylinder #4 again, and then replaced cylinder #4  spark plugs and coils. On/about Feb. /2023, the vehicle had more problems (running rough) and then the repair shop found a misfire on #4 again (spark plug was replaced. ) on/about 5/18/2023, I took my vehicle in for a routine oil change. About two days later, on/about 5/20/2023, I (along with my girlfriend) drove on the freeway for a long trip. We had only been on the freeway for a few miles when the engine died. I had accelerated to 75 m. P. H. On a slight upgrade and was in the process of setting the cruise control when the engine revved up to 4,000 r. P. M. 's (as if it was climbing a steep hill); several warning lights showed up on the dashboard.  I immediately disengaged the cruise control while in the left lane and (thankfully due to no vehicles being near us) was able to get the vehicle off to the right edge of the freeway. The vehicle had no power. I called a tow truck and the driver attempted to drive the Honda Insight onto his ramp (with thick smoke billowing out of the exhaust pipe) but it was only able to go half the car length up the ramp. At first, I was told it needed 2 spark plugs and was fixed. I reminded them that all 8 had recently been replaced; they then said no compression on #2 / that engine was dead. Took it to Honda; diagnosed it as the oil consumption issue. Check lights are for systems: emmission, brake, vsa, w/ various other lights on dash.

I have owned my Honda Insight for almost 10 years now. I bought it because it has great mpg. But this year has been horrible for it. It suddenly lost power while I was driving on the highway. Luckily I was able to move over to the side, and traffic was not too heavy at the time. Checkered flag Honda in virginia beach, va performed a TSB on it, and again two months ago, stating the exact same repair to be done each time. Now, it is displaying the very same symptoms I took it in for the first time, again. I will be uploading those reciepts as soon as I can find them tomorrow. After looking online, it is very obvious that I am not the only one with this same problem that could possibly endanger drivers. Honda has failed for over 10 years to find the manufacturer defect in the 2010-2014 Honda Insights, and have been issuing repeated tsbs, with only minor deviations stating the same repair to be performed (details below). I confirmed in carcomplaints. Com and Insightcentral. Net, that Honda is indeed screwing people over on this. My car was parked safely on my driveway. I turn on the car and all the lights came on including power loss failure, collision mitigation, etc. I had to tow it to a dealer where they claimed it was rodent damage causing an electrical failure on Monday, 9/19/22. The car was towed on 9/20/22. I was then told I was unable to claim any warranty. The dealer charged me $640. 00 for the repair. They claim the wire harness was chewed on which caused the system failure. I ended up having to pay out of pocket instead of using my $500 insurance to cover the damages. (insurance said it would likely raise my rates next if I continuously put a claim). I thought--one time incident, bad luck. The dealership refused to take photos of the chewed wires, but I was able to fight to receive some parts indicating the damage (who knows if it was actually mine or some they kept off of some other Honda--see attached photo). Not even 24 hours after having my car repaired to normal, I turn on the car in the morning and the same issues came up. I towed it again! the dealership claimed the rodent chewed my car in the same spot, at the same area. Charged me an additional $224. 00 to solder it back citing that they never seen this happen before. I find it convenient that no other vehicles on this street had issues with rodent damage. And the same area was bitten twice. Why would Honda create such an easily accessible route for rodents or a non-covered protected wire? as a consumer, I end up fronting the bill because neither the manufacturer nor the dealership, nor the insurance company (who would likely end up raising my rates) have to deal with a terrible design. Never had issues with other brands nor other older vehicles had this issue in the cul-DE-sac. Dealership ended up having wrapping the harness, but this car is new & should have been protected and repaired by Honda to begin with. Online search revealed Honda used soy based insulation which attracts rodents. Very unsatisfied with Honda.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Insight. The contact stated that the after starting the vehicle and shifting to reverse(r), the backup camera failed to display an image, creating a visibility hazard for the driver. Additionally, while the vehicle was parked several electrical features could not be accessed, with a message stating that the features could not be accessed because the vehicle was in motion. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted and a service appointment was schedule. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 27,000.

I was driving at 65-70 mph on a freeway, and all of a sudden the car speed dropped even my foot is on the gas pedal, the car slow down to 40mph when decided to pull over to the shoulder, barely enough time to get out of danger. The car engine shot down by its self, I could not move the vehicle to the far right ass I wanted too. The warning light on dash board indicated in red " power system " bottom of it in white light " power system problem do not drive" then a minute later, the warning light changed to a red logo of a battery 12 volt battery charging system problem do not drive.

It had problems with this car in the first 500 miles on oct 31st 2021 while driving on long island expressway in nassau county, NY. I have proof. I took pictures of the dashboard while getting lots of error codes while driving and only had 500 miles on the car. I experience loss of power, loss of steering and brake failure while driving on the long island expressway. I was lucky to be near an exit and I let the car roll away through the exit and I was able to pull over to the side of the service road of lie. After an hour the car started. I didn't know then, but this car has had chewed up wires ever since I picked it up from the dealership in pennsylvania( Honda vinart of emmaus, PA ). I observed exposed wires when I changed oil for the first time in December 2021. At that time, I thought it is a hybrid thing and didn't think much about it. I was driving with exposed wires this entire time! I could had had the brakes lock up or lose complete power while driving on the highway and cause a major accident. You can try to deflect he blame away from Honda manufacturer, but we all know it is your fault. On March 4th 2022, the Honda Insight barely started , engine knocking and sputtering. I towed it to the staten island Honda service (which estimated the damage at $7000 , but the warranty doesn't cover ) and they told me that a rodent finished the job Sunday night. The soy based harness on my 2022 Honda Insight attracts rodents. Why didn't the rodents attack my wife car that is parked right next to mine in the same driveway? I never had this type of problem with the other cars I owned in the past. I had owned dozens of cars and left them months parked in my driveway and they never attracted any rodents. This is a warranty issue and a safety issue . I could have been killed while driving with exposed wires. How do I even know, that other wires are also chewed? can I trust this car to be reliable anymore? a $30,000 car that can be my death trap.

2013 Honda Insight hybrid lx (4 cylinder) vehicle purchased on 8/19/14. Thanks this complaint is was filed to due engine oil consumption on my Honda-hybrid. In 2020 my car began losing oil quite frequently as I was having to add or change the oil often. On 8/27/21 I took the vehicle to Honda of downtown los angeles, kesean zachary informed me they would need to perform an engine oil consumption test and change the oil. Soon after that the car was again losing oil so I returned it to Honda of downtown on 11/18/21, where kesean checked the oil with the dipstick and informed that there was no oil consumption. A month later, the car was still losing oil. . This is my work car and I needed to get this problem resolved. . So I decided to take it back to where I purchased the car, Honda of hollywood on 3/23/22. I spoke with willie pittman who informed me they would need to perform another engine oil consumption test and change the oil. He said to me, drive the vehicle for 1,000 miles and bring the car back - this was on a Wednesday, and on Saturday 3/26/22 I told my wife we were going for a drive to see how the car runs. We drove a 52 miles when we decided to head back home, we drove another 11 miles when the vehicle stalled on the 101-fwy in the city of camarillo, the car just died while driving in the 2nd lane I veered to the right to try to make it to the shoulder but the car only idled over two more lanes to the right and died in the 4th lane, that's when my wife really panic. I had to replace the engine because the piston rings were all black carbon burnt which were burning the oil. Replaced the electrical and the regular batteries . Replaced two emission exhausted sensors and also the computer.

Throughout short ownership of the vehicle, a "charing system problem" warning light has occurred when starting, and during operation, of the vehicle. The warning light occurs intermittently during start-ups and whilst driving. The warning light possibly indicates an error with the charging system of the vehicle that may potentially result in loss/reduction of power of the vehicle. This may result in an increase of a vehicle collision. The vehicle is currently under inspection by Honda of oakland, and the service department states they cannot properly reproduce/identify/diagnose the issue at this time. See attachment for photo of first occurrence. Additional occurrences are documented via video and may be provided upon request.

The floor wire harness under the driver's seat was incorrectly routed and caused the harness to break when the seat was moved to close to the end of the back. This break then caused the a fuse to blow "freezing" the drivers seat and the secondary restrain system (srs) to fail with a warning light. The car was inspected by howdy Honda and confirmed that the cable (harness) was routed incorrectly. Nobody else has inspected the vehicle. This incident occurred in may of 2021. Here are the words from ali bharwani, the Honda agent that inspected the car: hello enrique, the problem with your vehicle is that the section of harness going from the floor to your seat was wrapped around a portion of the lower seat frame. Because the harness was wrapped and did not have it normal length of travel the seat could not move it's full length of travel. The reason that the seat restraint lights are on is because of the added tension on these wires from being wrapped up. Some of the wires broke resulting in the warning indicators illuminating. This is a safety issue for several reasons. One you cannot adjust your seat to comfortably fit a driver of different sizes. Secondly with the warning indicators on for the supplimental restraint system, in the event of a collision, the airbags, seat restraints, and other safety features will not activate.

While driving on the interstate where speed limit is 70 miles per hour, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw smoke coming out of the back of my car. I then saw warnings flashing from my dash board saying: ac malfunction, lkas malfunction,and then another warning flashed saying - low oil fluid, stop car do not drive. I coasted car to the side of the interstate and got out of vehicle and called towing service.

We purchased the vehicle on 1/23/21. On 2/4/21, I was driving in dobson, nc, when the power control unit (pcu) malfunctioned, leading to loss of power steering and brakes. When I started the car, the warning lights came on. I turned the car off and then restarted it without warning lights. I then backed out of the drive and started on my way. As I was descending a hill, the transmission shut off. I was able to coast to a stop with some braking. The car was towed to flow Honda in winston-salem, nc, where they replaced the pcu. We picked up the car on 2/9/21. My wife was able to drive it from winston-salem to durham, nc without incident. She then drove on I-40 towards our home in raleigh, nc. While traveling on I-40 at 65 mph, the pcu malfunctioned again, and the transmission stopped working. She was unable to accelerate, and the power steering and power braking would not function. She was able to coast over to the right lane from two lanes over and then coasted to the exit to safety. When the tow truck came to retrieve the vehicle, the car started but would not get out of park (it could shift into neutral but would revert to park when my foot was taken off the brake). The car was towed to crown Honda of durham, where we purchased the vehicle.

On June 3, 2019, I brought the car to Honda of illinois (2500 prairie crossing dr, springfield (217-547-0750) for major safety regarding malfunctioning driving assisting problems and conflicting signals. After diagnostics, the dealer technicians reported codes u128d, u1291, u1281, etc. For solution, they reset the code and told me that they cannot definitely fix those safety issues. They advised me to come back when the safety issues are back. On January 15, 2020, I went back to Honda of illinois for the same safety issues that became worst. At this time, the technicians were unable to even provide a temporary fix for the car. I had to go to another dealer for solution (bob brady Honda at 4025 east boyd road, decatur, illinois 62521 (217 876-3800)). Similarly to Honda of illinois, bob brady Honda confirmed that they don't have a permanent fix for those safety issues. In addition, they have not provided summary of work completed. Both dealers are acting negligently for allowing a car with some many safety issues to be driven on the roads. I called american Honda motor (800-999-1009) in multiple occasions to report all the safety issues and concerns for fatal crashes. American Honda refused to provide relief and solution to address the safety issues. They only referred to both local dealers. They both confirmed that they cannot fix the issues. Clearly, road and vehicle safety is not part of Honda's goals. In summary, my 2019 Honda Insight has major safety issues and is sending malfunctioning and conflicting driving assisting signals, lane watch, turn signals, etc. I am requesting nthsa to gather and investigate the provided information for a fair and expeditious resolution of my claim. For resolution, I request a car replacement or a refund.

The car was bought and delivered may 15th, late at night. Ever since, the lane assist and warning are on and say take to dealer. I parked the car a month then drove from miss to orlando, and put 1700 miles. Coggin of orlando did a quick computer check, as they had no availability two days ago when I took it in, and said either a defective or damaged radar system. Now Honda rep says I must get a rental and pay myself and she was very abrasive. The service repair person said he will run through up to 10 possible problems to diagnose what exactly is wrong, and because he reset it but it popped back on, something is for sure wrong. Now I am afraid I will be on the hook and plan to take it in tomorrow morning. . . . Otherwise the car seems fine we just cant use any of the warnings . The backup and side camera work.

So my 2013 Honda Insight has always consumed oil. I drove from idaho to utah stopped at the store when I started my vehicle up my display has check vsa, check hill start assist system, and check tpms. I tried driving away from the store to get to Honda and it loses all power and barley moves. Kinda like a safe mode and does this every time I start my car.

Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Honda Insight. The contact stated that the vehicle would registered a closer than what it reading and would engage the brake. In addition, the contact also stated that a burning of electrical odor would occurs now and then inside the vehicle. The touch screen radio would shot off. The mile per gallon reads 40. 5 less than what it was supposed to be per gallon. The vehicle was taken to 555 sunnybrook rd, ridgeland, ms 39157, (601) 957-3400) and was diagnosed but could not find a failure. The vehicle was also taken to bob boyte Honda dealer, (2188 ms-18, brandon, ms 39042, (601) 591-5000 and carl hogan Honda dealer , (3621 us-45, columbus , ms 39705, (662) 328-8236) and was also diagnosed and could not find a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number: 09717216. The failure mileage was 4,236. Aw.

Apple carplay will occasionally crash during vehicle use, causing the center infotainment console to completely reset. In this period, backup camera and side view camera are inaccessible for 30-60 seconds. This often happens mid operation of vehicle.

Tl the contact owned a 2019 Honda Insight. The contact stated that the infotainment panel overheated without warning while driving various speeds. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure continued. While the vehicle was off, the infotainment panel intermittently flickered on an off. The contact also noticed a buzzing noise coming from the rear driver's side fuel tank when the vehicle was off. The vehicle was taken to criswell Honda (19525 amaranth dr, germantown, MD 20874, 240-864-0880) where the infotainment panel was replaced three times; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

We have a new 2019 Honda Insight with 176 total miles on it. This morning, on leaving costco in salem oregon,there was an electrical problem which prevented use of turn signals, lights and other systems. This persisted for the four mile drive home. After parking the car, unloading groceries (using manual trunk unlock) then returning later, all systems were working again. We have contacted the dealer and hopefully they will be able to identify the problem. The car is unsafe to drive if there is another failure.

While I waa driving to work smoke came out of my steering column and my low beams stopped working. I believe the light switch is faulty as was the case with the recall on 2000-2001 Honda Insights.

I was driving in a line of slow moving traffic on a two line lane main street keeping a constant speed of 22 mph when suddenly my car lurched forward accelerating rapidly making a high pitched screaming sound. As the car gained speed I swerved into the other lane to avoid crashing into the car in front of me. Meanwhile I stomped on the foot brakes, pulled on the emergency brake and shifted into park trying to stop the car. Barely missing a head on collusion, the car jumped over the sidewalk, took down a steel sign, scraped over concrete barriers as it continued now at a speed of approximately 55 mph. It stopped only after I crashed it into the front window of a cafe. I'm concerned that this hybrid has a serious defect causing it to suddenly accelerate.

Honda Insight hybrid - unpredictable acceleration combined with locking of the brakes caused the car to move forward at an accelerated rate with no control, twice in a short time span. First incident was Dec. 2011, second in Jan. 2012. This did not happen in previous 1 1/2 yrs. I owned the car. I had an accident the first time going very slowly up a hill at 10:am with clear roads. The light was red and I braked to slow down and when crawling, slightly released the brake to roll forward, but the car accelerated 6 feet from a small truck in front of me. I felt like I was being pushed from behind. I pumped but the brakes were locked. Car went forward very slow uphill. I tapped the truck. My damage was a small chip in my plastic plate cover. His fender fell down. We reported the accident and will impact my insurance. I then decided to get snow tires. Second time was in front of a college, in rush hour traffic, slowing down for a red light. There were kids, cars all around etc. , everyone slowing down, coming to a stop. There was snow and ice on the road. I had new snow tires, I brake, the car slowed down, I released the brake a little, instead of maintaining the slower speed, the car accelerated. I brake again quickly, but I was on ice and the brakes locked. I slid as if being pushed. I turned into a small snow bank just in front of the sidewalk and the car stopped. I took it to the dealer who checked for 3 wks. They said no problems. Suggested the floor mats? several other 2010 Insight owners had similar problems all who said the dealership could find nothing wrong. If it was the floor mats it would have been happening all the time! I asked the dealership to buy the Insight back from me. I took a $10,000. Loss. I am so relieved it's worth it. The contact owns a 2010 Honda Insight hybrid. While driving approximately 25 mph there was a very high volume electric static noise. The contact stated that it was painful to his ears and gave him an instant headache and suddenly he began feeling very tired while driving . The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle so they could not assist him. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.

The "dim" headlights on my Honda Insight went out. The "brights" still work but no dims. I checked on line and there is a recall for my car for a faulty dim switch that will make the dims go out. When I called a dealer and gave him my VIN he said my car had already been "through" the recall and any additional repairs would cost several hundred dollars. I am not the original owner (second owner) and do not know if it was replaced or not and the dealer will not do anything except for full pay.
