I have owned my Honda Insight for almost 10 years now. I bought it because it has great mpg. But this year has been horrible for it. It suddenly lost power while I was driving on the highway. Luckily I was able to move over to the side, and traffic was not too heavy at the time. Checkered flag Honda in virginia beach, va performed a TSB on it, and again two months ago, stating the exact same repair to be done each time. Now, it is displaying the very same symptoms I took it in for the first time, again. I will be uploading those reciepts as soon as I can find them tomorrow. After looking online, it is very obvious that I am not the only one with this same problem that could possibly endanger drivers. Honda has failed for over 10 years to find the manufacturer defect in the 2010-2014 Honda Insights, and have been issuing repeated tsbs, with only minor deviations stating the same repair to be performed (details below). I confirmed in carcomplaints. Com and Insightcentral. Net, that Honda is indeed screwing people over on this. A compiled TSB history and detailed list are available in a shared excel file from my google drive here: https://docs. Google. Com/spreadsheets/d/1lo7z4vrtbts9ezqw-ppwutnhtc4ipa2r/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107278015992975669585&rtpof=true&sd=true my guess is this could end up being a class action lawsuit, judging by the responses of some of these folks in the forums. If you have any possibility of helping us with this, please do. And god bless. -beau anderson, usn (ret. ).
I believe the tire, wheel or suspension system failed while driving on the highway, causing me to hit my head on the driver's window and lose cosciousness. I skidded into a concrete barrier on the right side of the highway and was found unconscious at the scene. The damage to the passenger side body of the vehicle is minor and does not match the catastrophic failure of the wheel, leading me to believe the wheel failed and caused the crash, not that the crash resulted in the damage to the wheel. The vehicle is currently at a tow lot and available for inspection. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved, but I was injured and could have easily been killed, or injured and killed others as it is a busy highway, especially during rush hour when this occurred. Inspection by the insurance company is pending. The police did not investigate as a safety incident because they immediately said on site that almost all single vehicle accidents are drug/alcohol related and treated it like a dui stop. I passed field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer on scene and blood work at the hospital showed no drugs or alcohol in my system. I am missing time and memories starting about 5 minutes before the crash and for about 30 minutes after as a result of my concussion, I do not remember much besides a feeling that my car was falling, then I remember being woken up by the cop asking if I was under the influence.

My car failed to chage gears that I had to get car towed to a Honda dealer. The technician stated that the reason for failure was unknown but just resetted the system. I'm afraid that this might happen again.

While driving on the interstate where speed limit is 70 miles per hour, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw smoke coming out of the back of my car. I then saw warnings flashing from my dash board saying: ac malfunction, lkas malfunction, and then another warning flashed saying - low oil fluid, stop car do not drive. I coasted car to the side of the interstate and got out of vehicle and called towing service.
We purchased the vehicle on 1/23/21. On 2/4/21, I was driving in dobson, nc, when the power control unit (pcu) malfunctioned, leading to loss of power steering and brakes. When I started the car, the warning lights came on. I turned the car off and then restarted it without warning lights. I then backed out of the drive and started on my way. As I was descending a hill, the transmission shut off. I was able to coast to a stop with some braking. The car was towed to flow Honda in winston-salem, nc, where they replaced the pcu. We picked up the car on 2/9/21. My wife was able to drive it from winston-salem to durham, nc without incident. She then drove on I-40 towards our home in raleigh, nc. While traveling on I-40 at 65 mph, the pcu malfunctioned again, and the transmission stopped working. She was unable to accelerate, and the power steering and power braking would not function. She was able to coast over to the right lane from two lanes over and then coasted to the exit to safety. When the tow truck came to retrieve the vehicle, the car started but would not get out of park (it could shift into neutral but would revert to park when my foot was taken off the brake). The car was towed to crown Honda of durham, where we purchased the vehicle.

I bought a 2020 Honda Insight in March 2020. I have 8,000 miles on it and just the three weeks ago I started having transmission problems. The dashboard illuminated saying transmission problem, see dealership. It's brand new. I took it to the lodi Honda and the codes were a stuck selonied. They said there was no damage. Ok, it did it a second time and I am ready to give it back. Please help me. Scared of getting stranded on the road. I was driving on the highway.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Honda Insight. The contact stated that when the vehicle was at a complete stop and when the ccelerator pedal was engage to resume driving the accelerator pedal had to be eangage with force for the vehicle to enage speeed and the vehicle emitted a metal rattling noise. The contact also stated that the vehicle engine was loosing oil prematurely and the contact believes that engine loosing oil may have caused the vehicle to loose acceleration. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000. Li.
Transmission completely malfunctioned after 3 years, single owner and regular maintenance. Could not be rebuilt, flywheel involved as well.
The vehicle has on-going "oil consumption" issues that american Honda neglected to address. As a result, the oil goes up exhaust pipes to caused engine over heat and blow up during driving on highway. American Honda issued an "internal memo" to extend engine warranty to 8 years without notifying car owners. However, they failed to cover our blew-up engine when the first time happened and charged us $4600 for an used engine. Within 8 months, the second engine blew up again on the highway. American Honda finally covered the second engine repair. The american Honda rejected to reimburse the first engine blow-up. They denied anything wrong with the engine, but the extended the warranty to 8 years??? we have the records for both engine blow-ups.
We purchased a new 2013 Honda Insight. The car had excessive oil consumption from the very beginning. It required one quart of oil to be added every 2-3 weeks. We repeatedly voiced our concerns in at least 5 occasions. Each time we were told by the the dealership that the oil consumption was normal. Our complaints were ignored, our concerns dismissed. On January 25, 2017, while my husband was driving on highway I-78, the engine suddenly started losing power and completely stalled. Luckily, there were no other vehicles behind. The car was towed to the dealer, it was discovered there that a cylinder exhaust valve had broken off, causing severe and irreparable damage to pistons and the cylinder head. The engine was rendered useless. American Honda rejected to cover any of the expenses. We were told to purchase a used engine, which cost us $4,689. 51 out of our pocket in engine, parts and labor. After the repairs, the car continued having excessive oil consumption. On August 24, 2017, the 2nd engine also blew up, coincidentally while driving on highway I-78. This time, we were informed that there was an internal memo from american Honda, extending engine warranty to 8 years for Insight models 2012 and 2013. American Honda keeps this warranty extension quietly. It might appear that they are just waiting for accidents and/or complaints to happen, and only then offer the warranty extension. I believe this is a big safety and warranty issue. I fear for my husband's and other consumers safety. American Honda rejected honoring the warranty coverage, not to reimburse us for the $4,689. 51 we paid for the first time engine replacement. This request of ours was rejected for without substantive arguments. While american Honda failed to address this issue, engines for this model started failing at about the 100k mile mark, something that has happened to many Insight car owners.
My car had been sitting for 2 and a half weeks while I was out of the country. Upon starting the car, check brake system, check vsa system, check hill start assist system, service due soon and check emission lights illuminated on my dashboard. When I began to accelerate, the car only got up to 5 miles per hour. It was a 7 minute drive from airport parking to my residence. I parked the car and it sat over the thanksgiving weekend. The following week I had the car towed to the mcdavid Honda in irving, TX. I gave detailed history from the time of purchase a year and half ago. I advised the dealership, I was full aware of the excessive oil burning in issue that had been previous diagnosed at the original Honda dealership I purchased the car from. I kept up with excessive oil changes that needed to be done. The service tech said it had zero oil and the piston rings would need to be changed. He and his manager stated that they would complete an oil change at my expense, I would need to drive the car a thousand miles and then immediately return the car to the dealership, if the problem occurred then the dealership would cover the cost. I advised them again I had already done that type of testing previously. But, then, service tech proceeds to explain I also need all 8 spark plugs changed at my expense. Honda is fully aware of the excessive oil comsumption issue with the Insights. This is a 2013, 57,000 miles, up to date service record. I do not feel safe driving this car anymore. The uncertainty is overwhelming.
This morning (Aug 6, 2016), myself and my dad met with an accident and was driving Honda Insight 2011 lx model. Note that my dad was sitting in the front passenger seat. Let me describe the accident. I was about to park my car in front of sprouts grocery store in the parking available spot just facing sprouts. So you can imagine that I was about to park my car and the speed was around 5mph. All of a sudden, I could feel my Insight engine experiencing sudden acceleration automatically and then I was trying to apply the leg brake to make sure it doesn't speed up. Suddenly, the Insight started speeding up and didn't stop even after slamming on the brake and it jumped on the parking curb and finally hit the concrete pillar in front of sprouts resulting in deploying the driver air-bag and the passenger air-bags. My windshield developed a deep crack and I believe my car is going to be totalled. With that, it didn't stop, after hitting so hard the concrete wall, remember the car was still in drive mode and not in reverse mode, all of a sudden, the car started moving backwards and even didn't stop after slamming on the leg brake. Then I came out of the shock and applied my hand brake and turn off the ignition to stop the car moving backwards. Luckily, this crash didn't cause any bodily injury to any third parties but I had some bruises on my right arm developed due to some metal pieces from the takata air-bag.

My Honda 2010 Insight - vehicle rolls back after releasing brake going up hill. This intermittently happened since buying vehicle last year around 2/30/2015. Last year around the month of June - a roll-back caused vehicle to roll-back on a curb on right side and rear tire hit curb pretty hard. I confirmed later the bearing had a noisy sound after that (the vehicle always had a slight much lighter noise while driving). We heard a slight louder rubbing sound after that roll back on a curb incident. Dealership told me hybrids has slight noise due to battery electric sound. Months later after the roll-back bearing damage, I asked about issue with a mechanic shop, they told me issue sounded like bad bearings, and I was told to get shocks checked too. I was unemployed - and they told me most people can drive with bad bearings for a while. Here is more detail on the roll back - it happens, while moving foot from brakes to gas paddle. When the roll back happens - it's after I release brakes on a slop. I had to quickly hit gas or move quick to breaks again- due to sometimes I in stopped in traffic on a hill, and I can't hold the gas due to forward motion in stopped traffic, so while hold brake with right - I move my left foot to brakes and then right foot over gas - when able - move forward (and I release my left foot from brakes). My daughter drive more than me, and told me not to hit brakes to quickly or quick multi-tap & release brakes before I stop, she is right this issue happens less now that I slowly move foot from gas to brakes going up hill). That was when I learned to coordinate footing on a hill. I found it's sort of expensive to fix tire bearings at the Honda dealership, and my vehicle was over 70,000 miles at that time last year - from Honda. I am ready to get roll-back, and hopefully bearings fixed by Honda too.

The car was traveling at a very slow speed (<10 mph) in a parking lot with the driver attempting to maneuver the car into a parking space. The driver was applying no pressure on the gas pedal; the car was in deceleration. When the driver stepped on the brake pedal to stop, the engine accelerated and the car lurched forward unexpectedly. As a result, the car went over the parking barrier into the base of a parking light causing significant front end damage to the car ($6,000). The driver has experienced a few other situations where the car acted in a similar manner. We believe this unexpected acceleration issue poses a serious safety hazard. We are working with the local Honda service department to isolate and fix the problem.
My car loses all electric assist without warning. A sudden loss of power occurs and causes the car to stall when trying to merge into traffic, leaving the vehicle temporarily stalled. The battery-charge display gives no indication that this sudden loss of power will occur. Generally it is showing close to full when it recalibrates, usually while I'm not looking at it (judging traffic conditions) then my car stalls out as I try to let out the clutch.
