1 Door problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2015

The contact owns a 2001 Honda Odyssey. While parked, the rear driver and passenger side doors failed to open. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side doors would not open if the vehicle's gear was in the drive position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Door problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

2001 Honda Odyssey: the sliding side doors intermittently stick shut for no apparent reason, and they will not open until they decide to cooperate. This, to my mind, is a very serious safety concern as people in the vehicle would not be able to exit, and emt personnel would be greatly hindered in extracting victims of a crash. This condition can and does obtain for days at a time until, suddenly and for no apparent reason, the doors will start to operate normally.

3 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2009

My 2001 Honda Odyssey minivans power sliding doors stopped working while visiting my sister in aurora, colorado around Dec. 26, 2009 because it snowed there overnight. My brother-in-law looked up if this problem was mentioned online. The problem was mentioned and they said you have to disconnect a battery cable then reconnect the battery cable so it will reset the electronics for the power sliding doors. Sure enough that fixed the problem and the sliding power doors started working again. We waited for the sun to come out before doing this.

4 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2008

2001 Honda Odyssey minivan power sliding doors keep failing especially in icy conditions. Several times I have had my children in my car when the doors failed to operate fully. I had to crawl to the back through my front doors to reach my very young children to put them in and out of their car seats. Then I needed to drive home in icy conditions with the door partially open next to one of my children. In addition, one of my children has a medical condition that makes getting to them as quickly as possible very important for their safety. These power doors are simply hazardous and there should be a recall to fix these. From the discussions on owner forums, this is happening to quite a lot of people with this model of car across a wide range of years. After spending a couple of hundred dollars with the dealer to try to fix this, the dealer gave me a new 'fix'. I need to remove a fuse for 30 seconds and then replace the fuse. The doors needs to be 'reset' I. E. It appears to be a design defect in a sensor rather than an actual physical part needing replaced. I have replaced nearly every part of one of my sliding doors and still continue to have this problem after it has been icy. Usually my husband can manually operate the door after this has happened, but I am not as strong as he is and I cannot fully open or close the door. Resetting the door by removing the fuse for 30 seconds makes the door start working again until the next occurrence. Until recently, my dealer did not tell me the trick with the fuse so when this would happen, I would be forced to drive my children home with the door partially open.

5 Door problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

I have a Honda Odyssey 2001. Power sliding doors always have problems. This begins about one year after I purchased the car. Now I have to drive my van with doors not being secured and switch off so buzzer shuts off. I only can open one side door (rdriver side) because other one is not working. I's really bring me concern about my kids safety. I hope you can investigate this matter and tell Honda to fix the problems.

6 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2008

We have a 2002 Honda Odyssey the sliding doors will continue going no matter what is in the way. On several occassions I have been put my kids in their car seats and the door starts to close. The door would have crushed me if I did not jump out of the way. If that would have been a child it would kill them. I would think the Mini van would have some kind of sensor on the doors but it doesn't.

7 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2007

Honda Odyssey minivan power side doors short out regularly and will not open or close automatically. The doors will still function manually but require a strong adult. Youths have trouble opening the doors. This poses a safety hazard. This is a common problem with this type of vehicle and requires regular visits to the mechanic to keep the doors operable.

8 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2007

Sliding side doors stick and do not open periodically. This problem began during the 1st year we had the van. When this happens the door must be opened from the outside, but it does not always open easily, evev from the outside. I am the original owner, & the dealer has not been able to correct this problem. So the problem began in 2000 and is still ocurring.

9 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2007

Honda 2001 Odyssey ex. 1. Door would buzz and not shut completely. Both power sliding doors of minivan. 2. Had children who were trapped and had to climb out of the front passenger seat to get out of the van. Also, had to drive down the road with the door partially ajar. 3. Fuse #13 was pulled, doors were lubricated. Honda then told me it was the motor. Then a day later when both doors wouldn't work they said it's the contact pins that need to be replaced.

10 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2007

Automatic, sliding doors on 2001 Honda Odyssey do not close completely and latch.

11 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2006

Power sliding doors fail to function properly requiring costly repairs. Service dept. At dealership informs me that this is a frequent problem requiring correction with these vehicles (particularly this model year).

12 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

2001 Honda Odyssey stalled while driving. The transmission failed while the consumer was driving on the interstate. It was the second time the transmission had been replaced. The consumer has also experienced problems with the brakes and sliding doors.

13 Door problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2006

Rear manual sliding doors stick closed. If there is an accident or emergency, it is not possible for passengers to open the doors from the inside to get out of the vehicle. It is not possible to open the doors from the outside for rescue. Took to dealer twice. The first time they put tape on the door seals. This was not effective. The second time they put grease on the door seals. This was effective for a short time.

14 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

The automatic sliding doors both stopped functioning. I learned that they could be reset by removing fuse #13 for a few seconds and replacing it. This worked until it happened again several months later. This time it didn't help. Now one door works but because the other doesn't I have to turn off the auto-door switch because it buzzes constantly. I have also had the clock light burn out and my Honda mechanic (who specializes in Hondas) cannot remove the cover to replace it. I have had several other warning light incidents that may or may not be electrical problems.

15 Door problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2004

While exiting our 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan, my 2 year old daughter got her foot caught in the motorized door mechanism as the door was opening. I understand there is some type of sensor to detect an obstruction when the door is closing but there is no sensor to detect an obstruction when the door is opening. She had her foot pinched in the mechanism along the door sill. Her foot was "squashed". We took her to the emergency room where xrays did not reveal any damage; however, the doctor who examined her said that permanent damage may not be detected or noticeable until she is fully grown. We contacted Honda's customer service to report the event. We asked that some sort of sensor be installed in future models or at the very least a warning appear somewhere in the car. We also asked that some sort of notification be sent to all owners of their vans with motorized doors. The representative from Honda said that Honda would not do that.

16 Door problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2004

The sliding doors on my Honda Odyssey 2001 do not stop when closing and a person gets in the way. It is way too dangerous!.

17 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2003

Consumer stated that it would be hard for them to stop the sliding door from closing causing minor injuries. Dealer notified.

18 Door problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2003

The vehicles sliding door opened without warning.

19 Door problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2003

The passenger door does not unlock. Dealer notified. Ph.

20 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2002

The sliding door became stuck, also at times the door opened while driving.

21 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2002

Consumer states power sliding door is inoperative. The sliding door had gotten stuck, and trapped the kids in the vehicle. Ph the seat belts had unbolted from the interior. The sliding doors have been repaired on four occasions and remain inoperative. When the power is off, the doors cannot be opened manually and the transmission failed. Scc.

22 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2002

While traveling on the highway in inclement the door will come open and close intermittenley. And get stuck she went to open the door and the handle came off. The dealership is aware of the problem. Mr.

23 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2002

Early in 2002 I begin having difficulties opening the passenger side sliding door on my Honda Odyssey. I took the van to the local dealership and was told I must not be closing the door correctly. In June 2003, I returned to the dealership- at that time they replaced the rubber seal around the door, admitting other vehicles were having that problem. July 2005 the door again became difficult to open, the local dealership applied a spray "that should solve the problem". By October 2005 some days the door would open, some days it would not. Dec. 4, 2005, I was traveling home, alone, from church about 8:45 pm when all of the interior lights came on. I saw the door open signal for the passenger sliding door was on. It was dark, at a section of the county that I was not comfortable stopping at, so I drove for approx. 2 miles to reach an area where I felt safe to stop, get out, go around the car and close the door. I contacted Honda on Monday - if I want to pay for it, they will replace the seal again. I have called the Honda 800 number they gave me at the local dealership, taken the car back to the dealership for them to look at it. Because I refused to pay for a diagnosis (the individual on the 800 number said nothing about that during the first call) Honda will do nothing. This door has been a problem from the first, I feel Honda has never corrected the problem, just made it bearable for a while. It is unsafe.

24 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

Automatic sliding door does not have a sensor or indicator or any type of reverse mechanism to stop door from moving forward while passengers are entering vehicle, which could cause passenger to become injured. Please give any further details.

25 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2001

The child was playing with key ring with remote control for door latches when child hit remote. This caused door to start closing with parent in door frame. Door handle was grabbed to prevent door from closing. But door kept closing until stopping. Consumer's arm and wrist was pulled. Consumer contacted dealership & informed by mechanic, nothing can be done about remote control locks on door.

26 Door problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2001

Seatbelts will not retract. Driver's side seat belt does not retract correctly. Instead of door opening it presses forward. Seat belt replaced three times because belt continued to come out until maximum length and would not retract. Automatic sliding door was broke. The consumer is asking for replacement or refund for the vehicle.

27 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2001

There has been no injury to report as of yet. I feel that the power closing doors are very dangerous. They exert a great deal of pressure before the pressure sensor kicks in and reverses the door. A child could reach up getting in the van, pull the handle and initiate the door to close. If he faltered, it would be very easy for a body part (ie neck) to get lodged in the door and the force mechanism would not be enough to reverse the door before injury or death to occur.

28 Door problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2001

Power doors do not stop properly when an obstruction is met. This almost injured my child. I believe that these doors should at least meet the standard of a garage door for reversing/stopping. I am told by the service staff that the sensitivity cannot be adjusted. I believe that this is an unacceptable hazard for a vehicle that is marketed for families with smallchildren.

29 Door problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

The sliding doors on the van seal shut after rain, snow or car washes. I have to climb inside the vehicle and push the doors out while someone yanks from the outside on the handle. The seals have been replaced and lubricated over and over, but to no avail. I fear that in an accident an emergency responder would not be able to get into the van to help my children.

30 Door problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

No summary listed for above vehicle.

31 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2001

The power sliding doors on this van do not stop closing very easily if an obstruction (ie a person) is in the way. The remote door open/close is very sensitive and easily trigerred. This can happen while someone is in the way of the door and a serious injury could result. This happened today to my wife and while she was only bruised from the incident, it could have been fatal if one of our small children was in the way of the door. If you turn off the power closer, the doors are almost impossible to close by hand. I feel that, like automatic garage doors, these doors should be much better at detecting obstructions and stopping accordingly.

32 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2001

Intermittently both sliding doors fail to open. Both doors have continuously been repaired. The dealer hasn't been able to diagnose the problem. The dealer indicated Honda is aware. The problem has been ongoing for a year. Nlmboth rear sliding door seals have been replaced, also the rear sliding door latch has been replaced.

33 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2001

Power sliding door safety mecahnism routinely fails.

34 Door problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2001

Sliding door had too much resistance before door retracted back. Dealer said there was nothing they could do. Consumer weighs 220 pounds , and door started to hurt before it retracted back. If door retracted on a small child it could seriously injure him/her. The consumer says the sliding doors should retract with much less resistance.

35 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2000

Two sliding doors operate erratically. Two sliding doors will open without consumer using remote key pad. Also, doors will begin to close on their own. In addition, experiences difficulty when opening door because of door jamming/locking. Both the sliding door latches were replaced on warranty. The problem occured again and the dealer had to replace the open/close swith and adjust the left door striker.
