7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2017

I stopped behind a car waiting to merge from a parking lot to highway 193. The car ahead pulled out a little. Then apparently changing his mind, he backed up into me. I had not pulled forward, but he still totaled my car. Surprisingly, my airbags did not inflate. The collision bent my hood, cracked the grill, broke the bumper.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

I purchased a Honda Odyssey from a local Honda dealer March 2012 with 122,000 miles on it and what I was told was a brand new transmission. November 2014 I drove the car to my grandmothers house 5 hours away for thanksgiving and the day after the return trip the car began slipping gears. Honda wants $5,100 to fix it. The transmission that is in it now if they indeed put a new one in it is only 2 1/2 years old and has 47,000 miles on it!! that is ridiculous!! I paid $7,900 for a car that lasted me only 47,000 miles!!.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

Driving on highway on 11/15/2014 way to work around 65 mph and suddenly felt a jerk as some one hit from behind, looked around and keep driving felt jerk again and speed of vehicle came down pulled car to the side. Stopped the engine f0r few minutes and started the car again put gear in drive and car is moving very slowly even giving enough gas. End of calling tow truck and towed car to close by dealer. Dealer called me today 11/15/2014 to inform there is a transmission failure and need around $6000 in repairs.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

Broken rear motor mount.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

It was Thursday, early evening, and I was driving on a country road, approaching a stop sign, when the 2004 Honda Odyssey van's power cut out. The engine went dead in the middle of the road. It just suddenly cut off for no reason. I was able with difficulty to steer it to the side of the road. I turned the ignition "off" and called my husband thinking I might need aaa to come tow the car. After the van sat for a few minutes, I was able to get it to start again, but it sounded terrible and the engine's engagement felt weak. I was a few miles from an auto repair shop and decided to slowly drive it there and leave it overnight. I was told the next day that the transmission had failed and the mechanic mentioned that there had been a recall on my van of which I was unaware. I looked up the recalls on the NHTSA site that Honda and issued and noticed that my van's VIN number was in the range that had been recalled for transmission problems. I called local Honda dealers about this as well as the Honda corporate number. Each said that even though my van's VIN was in the batch that was recalled and even though the exact problem that I had experienced was the reason for the recall, they did not feel obliged to assist with the van's repair. Neither the local Honda dealer nor Honda corporate would give an explanation as to why they felt they did not need to shoulder any of the transmission replacement costs. I believe this is against the law. Can corporations like Honda really get away with ignoring the law? after paying for a $4,600 transmission replacement, I do not have the money to fight them.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

While coming to a stop for vehicles stopped at the traffic light at the end of my street, I rear-ended an oil truck in front of me. My driver's side airbag deployed as I applied the brakes to stop, causing me to lose control and hit the oil truck. My vehicle was totaled and my injuries were not severe.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

Vehicle was never serviced properly.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at the dealer for routine maintenance, he was informed that the two motor mounts (front and side/right) would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure (or pretend to be not aware of it). The approximate failure mileage was 95000. It seems that the engine mount issue with the Honda Odyssey should be looked into. After scrolling thru the pages of complaits I noticed there was a complaint on every page. This look to be either a cash cow for local dealers or a Honda defect. Can NHTSA protect us? please do something to help us. If you can't help would we be better off calling a congressman?.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

Have owned this oddysey since 2008 and the vehicle at that time had around 40,000 miles. At that time I had to replace the front engine mount. Las week I went to the dealer for 90k service and they tell me I need to replace both the front right and front middle mount again!!!. So these mounts last 40 to 50k miles at max, outrageous for a brand like Honda. I will cost me now 800$ to replace these 2.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

I took the van to the dealership for and oil change and its 60,000 mile check up. I was told two of the engine mounts are cracked and/or broken. About $900 to replace both of them. Upon looking on the internet, it seems this is a very common problem for Honda Odysseys at about that mileage around that year. With so many with the problem, there should be a recall.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at the dealer for routine maintenance, he was informed that the motor mounts would need to be replaced. The motor mounts failed again shortly after being replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

Received news from a local Honda dealership that all 4 engine mounts were broken for a cost of $925. When looking for parts happen to see the amount of chatter regarding engine mounts on several model years of the Odyssey. Lesson learned. . . Perhaps check this site before buying any vehicle. Seems Honda should cover some of the cost at least.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2013

Engine mount is broken. Both side mount and front mount.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while the vehicle was being repaired by the dealer they stated both the left and right motor mounts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact did not contact the manufacturer regarding the defective motor mounts. The failure mileage was 52,000. The VIN was not available.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Brought Odyssey to dealer for recent recall. After recall repair, dealer service recommended front motor mount be replaced at a cost of over $400. I searched online and found several customers receiving similar recommendations, and one customer recommended informing NHTSA. Is this a problem with Hondas?.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

I took our 2004 Odyssey Mini van to our Honda dealership for a recall on the ignition switch. While there, the dealership identified three of the four engine mounts were broken, resulting in a $858. 78 repair. The dealer claims that the problem is not uncommon in vehicles with 100,000. We've had cars much older than this and have never experienced this problem! if it's "not uncommon" in Honda Odysseys, I think it should be investigated. Perhaps another recall from Honda is due.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

Took in our 2004 Honda Odyssey Mini-van to fix open recalls. Dealer found a broken motor mount. I've never had such a thing happen to any vehicle and was surprised that it would fail at such low mileage. After researching online I come to find that this is a frequent problem for the Honda Odyssey.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

I took my car in on a recall for shift interlock, was told all my engine mounts were broken and it was going to cost me 1000. 00. This should be a safety issue and should be a recall on this, the mileage on my 2004 Honda Odyssey is 101434. This is a safety issue and Honda should pay for this cost. Honda is known for there reliability and dependability, should stand behind there vehicles. I had to call around to see what it would cost and is being fixed. I can't afford to pay this but I am forced to. I purchased the van because of the reliability of there vehicles and now this. So what is Honda going to do about this problem? another complaint # is 10425453. This is ridiculous and this repair is going to cost me 700. 00 and I want a settlement amount to cover this cost. I expect to hear from someone on this matter and sooner the better.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

Dear sir/madam, we own a 2004 Honda Odyssey ex and bought it new at a local dealership. We maintained the vehicle according to the specs by the manufacturer. Earlier today we brought it to a local auto shop to get a regular oil change and was notified that the engine mounts are broken down and since the mileage is still under 100k, it is uncommon to have that. The store owner also mentioned that he noticed a lot of other Honda Odysseys have the similar problem. We went online to research the matter and found that there are actually a lot of complaints regarding similar issue from other Honda Odyssey owners particularly from 2003 to 2007 Honda Odyssey. Since we did not find a recall from Honda of America, we want to report the problem here to be taken a look upon. Thank you for your time.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

Two engine mounts are failing despite the relatively low mileage on the van. I've never owned a vehicle that suffered from such a potentially catastrophic failure with this many miles on it.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2012

Originating in portland, or to l. A. , California, our vacation was abruptly interrupted 30 miles north of bakersfield with some smoke coming out of our engine. We decided to pull over for safety and upon disembarking noticed from fluid dripping from the driver side area of the engine. We were towed to a Honda dealership in bakersfield and after spending the night came back the next morning to the dealer and was told that my transmission on my 2004 Honda Odyssey was out of commission and that it needed to be replaced. I have been a loyal customer of Honda since the 80's, as my other family members, and never had we experienced this type of catastrophic event(having to pay $4000. 00 to replace the transmission) during our family vacation. I am the original owner of this van and (from 2004), I never have I received any recall or communication from the Honda corporation about the transmission. I always changed my fluids and had it maintained. If I would've known about the transmission issue, I probably would've avoided using it for such as long journey. I contacted the Honda corporation office in California but they disregarded it as just a misfortune. I asked for reimbursement or some type of reimbursement but they denied my plead.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2012

Took the van to the local Honda dealer for a routine brake fluid and brake rotor replacement. While working on that the mechanic noticed that the two front engine mounts were damaged. These are not listed by Honda as the routine maintanance items. But failure of these would cause certain damage. Apparently it is a known issue with Honday Odysseys but Honda has no recall for the failed part.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2012

Took our Honda Odyssey van in for service with the local Honda dealer. Was told that we had broken motor mounts. Dealer service center said that this is a common problem for this year/make/model and was a real risk to our safety if we didn't get it fixed. If it is such a risk, why is there not a recall? from looking at the number of complaints on this site, there are so many is it to numerous to count them all.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

Vehicle failed safety inspection today because 3 engine mounts are broken. They were not broken at last years safety inspection, nor at scheduled maintenance 6 months ago. Mechanic indicated he sees this frequently on Honda Odyssey.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2012

Sudden loss of acceleration on the interstate mechanic looked underneath and mentioned the rear main seal on the transmission was leaking and it lost the transmission fluid only option now is an approximate $5,000 replacement with re-manufactured transmission!!!!.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Motor mounts on this vehicle are failing prematurely. I had to replace right engine mount at 97750 miles and was just informed by a Honda dealership that the front engine mount needs to be replaced at 102500 miles.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

Had noticed recently that when switching gears the van "jumped" and at highway speeds seemed to vibrate/shake. Then the engine light came on. After much investigation, the diagnosis was the transmission needed to be replaced. When the transmission was being worked on it was also discovered that all of the mounts had to be replaced as well. The maintenance schedule had been followed completely so this was a complete shock -- at least until I started doing some research, saw the recall notice of over 1-million Honda Odyssey transmissions (however my VIN # didn't come up!) and saw just how many transmission complaints there were from other owners also not part of the recall. Because the dealership was way too expensive, I chose my recommended local aamco shop to do the repairs. Called Honda and was told there would be no "goodwill" claim because (a) the dealership did not do the repair and (b) the transmission is only warrantied by Honda for 36/36,000 (no wonder!!). However, the dealership had told me that Honda rarely provides "goodwill" claims and if they do, I'd be lucky to receive $400, so considering the dealership was over $2000 more for just the transmission work, I couldn't risk having the dealership do the repair to later find out that Honda would reject a "goodwill" claim.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2012

Side and front motor mounts discovered to have failed at 59852 miles on 2/19/09 and had to be replaced. Now, 6/18/12, rear (transmission) mount discovered to have failed at 88000 miles and has to be replaced. Normal family driving for vacations and around town only. No extreme conditions or roads.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2012

While driving the van about 65 mph on highway, it suddenly slowed down to a stop, could not get any power. Cruised to the side of the road. Noticed fluids leaking from engine. Had to tow the car to the dealership, frank ancona Honda, olathe kansas. Told that the front and side motor mounts were broken and was causing stress on the back motor mount, and that this caused the engine to shake and the vent tube was shaken off, drained all transmission fluid. Cost to repair the motor mounts and vent tube was $860. 31. Told by repairman that this was a common problem for Honda Odyssey's when they hit around the 110,000 mile mark. And they replace these all the time. Seems to me if this is a common problem then there must be a flaw in the engineering and Honda should have recalled this vehicle for this problem. This is a safety issue to which I feel Honda needs to address and fix.
