Failure Date: 05/01/2019

2005 Honda Odyssey -the sliding doors fell off !!!!!!. I researched and discovered a numerous amount of problems with the sliding doors. There is a recall for newer models and they too have the exact same issues. The problems range from a grinding noise , auto doors not opening completely than closing. To the back of the door slightly opening then the beeping indicator is constantly on while driving. The battery is being drained because the doors never close completely. The center rollers are cheap plastic which I believe causes the grinding noise. Once they wear out it gets worse. These are not some isolated complaints!! there are too many others with every year of the Odyssey that have these issues !! and now I finally see a recall. All theses issues have happened during different times. Some while stationary. Some while driving. The worst one where the door literally fell off was parked in my drive way. (thank god) I took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem and rigged my door but it is not safe to drive. Why was this not recalled a long time ago?? there are too many complaints to ignore this !! the newer models have been recalled for this exact problem . I owned an accord for 14 years over 300,000 miles. The best car I ever had. Than bought this 2005 Odyssey and just recently purchased a 2018 crv ex. It's wrong that Honda does not back up their reputation.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

Airbag light intermittent on 2005 Honda Odyssey.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

My vehicle does when its sitting after a day. Something seems to be draining the battery. I think it's the doors.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

My rear power sliding doors have faulty door latches. While in gear I must turn off the power to my doors to avoid a very loud constant beep. This however does not help to keep my doors closed. While driving both rear doors have opened at least 25 times within the past week while my children were in the vehicle! it causes my lights to come on and my doors will not lock. I have even tried to keep my doors locked and they still open up regardless. This began happening on December 22, 2018 and has continued daily since.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

When engine is off and I lock the doors by remote control, after few minutes safety alarm will be active ( lighting started to on/off for 120 second and whistle also continues active).

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Passenger sliding door alarm sounded when driving was not open. Battery repeatedly being drained. Dealer removed sliding door closer motor (!) now door will not stay closed and if you force it closed alarm will go off randomly. This problem with power doors is all over the internet. Please help.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

I just seen this recall: Honda will recall about 122,000 of its 2018 and 2019 model year Odyssey minivans due to the risk that its sliding doors could open while the vehicle is in use. In documents filed with the national highway traffic safety administration, the automaker says that the rear latches on the power sliding door might "generate higher than normal friction, causing them to stick. " if this were to happen, the doors could be prevented from closing all the way which would obviously increase the chances they fly open while the vehicle is in use. My 2005 Honda Odyssey's sliding doors do the same thing yet there hasn't been a recall on it.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

Driving the 2005 Honda Odyssey power shuts off to the entire vehicle. You didn't turn the vehicle off and turn it back on it will start. When there is a heavy load on the vehicle the car will stall. The power shut off happens intermittently and even blinkers will not work. This is driving in local and highway the car stops.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Takata recall back of sliding door wont latch.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

This has happened to me 3 times in the last 3 months. I was parked in my driveway with moter running sat there while finishing something, having my foot on the break went to put my van in park after which took my foot off the brake and my van lunges forward. I stomped on my brakes barely in time to not go through my garage door. #2 I was parked much like #1 in front of my gym foot on the brake went to put the van in park and it lunges forward, I stomped on the brake in time to not go all the way up the crub. Still not understanding what was happening. #3 was a week ago. I was turning left into a parking space almost a u-turn and my van excellerated so fast I was headed straight for a concrete pillar, was able to stomp on the brakes coming way to close to hitting the pillar. I took the Odyssey into Honda they ran their tests and found nothing wrong. They just thought I must have slipped of the brake. Well that's not what happened in either of the 3 times. Very scary and drive very cautious now. Stop a car length from other cars from crosswalks park with my emergency brake on and excellerate slowly! praying it doesn't happen again, my 93 year old mother was in the passenger seat on #3 and scared her to death!.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

Takata recall - the power sliding doors come open while driving down the road on their own. At first the right rear door power stopped working and the same day the door came open driving down the road. That is not good with children under 8 years of age!!!!! now the left rear door still has the automatic power working but has problems with coming open driving down the road.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

The air bag light is on and can't find out why. It comes on when someone leaves or enters the car and does when car is turned on and stays on after the lights are done from starting.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

The sliding doors on both side of my odessey van could not be opened. They always stuck and hard to open. My odessey van's left sliding door could not open for years. And my right sliding door also could not be opened. On 8/29/17, my son tried to open the right sliding door through the outside and it fell off/fell down and injured my son on his feet that ended up in the emergency hospital. I am filing this complaint to ask your agency to further investigate on this matter and further protect other consumer from injury. I truly believe this is a manufacture defect and it needs to be recalled and fixed. The incident happened while it was parked on the parking lot. If the car is on the road or on motion then it would be more dangerous and cause car accident.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

Burning smell and smoke started to come out on the middle of our drive on I-95 n back from va to home in NJ. We were with family including 12 year old son, we had to pull the van on the shoulder (barely any) . We had to call aaa to get our van towed to NJ about 140 miles. The mechanic tells us that the transmission is failed and the cost would be around $4000. Our concern is the safety and american Honda failed to help us to cover the cost of transmission issue.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

I am the original owner of a 2005 Honda Odyssey. In 2014, while driving up hill on the grapevine in gorman, CA I hit the gas to accelerate, but nothing happened. The speedometer did not move. It was was stuck on 40mps. I tried pushing on the gas, but that did nothing. It was as if the transmission was just not working. I started to loose power as was able to pull over by divine intervention. Thank you aaa for towing me to scott robinsons Honda- torrance, CA. After all of this and they said it was a speed sensor that needed to be replaced. The dealership said that is what it was, so that is what it has to be. They never make mistakes. On June 22, 2016 going up hill, and trying to excellerate to pick up speed, the speedometer would not move. Pushing on the gas did nothing. I continued to move until the hill became to steep, and the car just stopped. Starting to roll backwards, I hit the brakes and held on for deal life. Once again aaa had to tow my car to Honda. Well, guess what they said this time. You need a new transmission. Yes, that is what they said this 2nd time. At 140k miles, I need a new transmission, and it is going to cost me $6,000. Wft! my 1997 Ford windstar is still going strong with 250k miles. I have tried to contact Honda, but I am getting nowhere. No return calls, no communication nothing. I will never buy Honda anything again.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2015

The passenger side sliding door wouldn't close after 25 minutes of trying and finally getting it closed I headed home. Only to be driving down the road and I can hear something like the window is down yet it's not. All the windows where closed and the ac was on. Then I saw the door ajar light is on for that door. The door had come unlatched enough drop to change through. I bought this van and loved it now I am seriously reconsidering ever buying one again. My sister has the 2006 and she has had it happen with both door one even coming open while driving down the road going 40 mph. My other sister also has an Odyssey the 2003 and she has also has safety issues with her power door. I will not recommend this vehicle to anyone with all of the problems I have had and now I'm hearing more people are having this issue.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

Power sliding doors stopped working.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

I've this Honda Odyssey since Dec 2010 when the mileage was around 42000 miles. At the time of purchase from another person(1st owner), I knew I had to fix the all the motor mounts. The vehicle had just 44000 miles and I had changed all the motor mounts at 45412 miles on 03/17/2011. Now, as of 05/19/2015, the vehicle has only 96000 miles. I have to change side and rear engine mounts again on 05/19/2015. This definitely is a problem with Honda parts and how they are working when the van is in motion. Changing motor mounts 2 times in less than 100,000 miles is really disappointing and waste of unnecessary money. My wife uses this van for her daily work commute. As you can see, it has less miles and I've done all the services regularly as it is the primary family vehicle. So, I request Honda to consider this as a genuine request for reimbursement. I've the receipts for these 2 services. Also, I've seen several Honda Odyssey 2005 vans have this problem, so Honda should recall this motor mounts problem and fix at their cost or reimburse for already repaired vans.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

I was driving my children to school, ages 9 and 6, and as I was driving the sliding passenger door on the driver's side opened. My 6 year old daughter who was sitting next to the door said "mommy the door is opening". I was driving only about 10 to 15 mph and was able to immediately pull over and I kept on opening and closing the door and would appear to be closed but as I continued to drive it would open again. I continued to drive to school with my hazards on and if the door opened again I would have to pull over and open and close the door again. While this was happening we heard a continuous beeping noise like I would hear if the door was open. This incident scared my children and myself and should have never happened. I consider this to be a major safety flaw in this car and should be recalled. I have heard the beeping sound before when it is very cold but this is the first that the door actually opened while I was driving.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

Headsets won't work at all only static sound . I heard is a common problem but Honda doesn't admit it nor fix it for free . I think Honda should recall this problem.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

Having to replace the engine motor mounts again. Replaced the front mount in oct. 2014. Faulty again. Checked online and there have been plenty complaints about the motor mounts. Was told engine could fall down when driving. Nhtsa need to check into this. I'm sure Honda is aware of this issue but has done nothing about it.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

Brought the car to a Honda dealership (tony Honda, waipahu hi 96797) for recall (fuel pump) and routine maintenance and two broken motor mounts were discovered (right side and rear side). Was advised that repair of the two broken mounts would most likely lead to damage to the remaining mounts, which would then have to be replaced as well.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

The sliding doors rollers and latches are defective! the left door will not latch and it's a safety hazard with kids in the back! this needs to be recalled!! 2005 Honda Odyssey.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

One morning as we were started up the engine I noticed a somewhat loud noise as is the muffler had a hole in it. I drove it for awhile and noticed at this point that the noise was heard as we accelerated and when the car went into eco mode. I had stood outside of the vehicle while my wife drove away but did not notice any noise. Thought this was strange. I took it to the Honda dealer on a recall, fuel pump, and asked for them to look under it. They reported that it was the motor mount that was worn down. I see that Honda Odyssey, 2005 (our year model) through 2007 has this problem. Is there any type of action that can be taken to have Honda repair this incident without the cost coming from me.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Our 2005 Honda Odyssey lx is having massive paint peeling issues. There was an extended warranty offered for this problem a few years ago and has since expired, but at the time of the warranty we did not notice a problem. It now has 60% paint loss on the roof and patches as large as a hand on the body are peeling. Van is garage kept and well maintained. After contacting the Honda dealership where van was purchased, we were told there were no Honda reps in our area to inspect van and they don't expect one until next month or so. The service manager is aware of the issue but did not offer any suggestions other than to wait until the rep is available to inspect van. By the time the rep sees our van, we may have no paint left.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

The transmission on my 2005 Honda Odyssey has to replaced and Honda is claiming that is normal for a transmission to go at 100000 miles. The car drives fine for short distances but then after long distances it goes 5 miles an hour and revs really high. It was towed to Honda where they told me nothing was wrong. I asked them to drain the fluid and replace it. They did that then drove it around and drained it again and it was dirty and burning. They are putting in a refurbished transmission with an extended warranty. I feel that with a Honda the transmission should last a lot longer and think this is a Honda issue.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

As I started to receive notice that my navigation disc needed replacing, the disc failed, shutting down the entire navigation system and rendering all console controls useless. Though that is irritating, the safety concern I have is that it also shut down the use of my back-up camera. Although I am able to use the vehicle without the camera, several "almost" accidents have occurred due to the blind spots I can no longer see without the use of the camera.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

Air bag sign is on and stays on. Also the door on the passenger and driver sliding will not close or open properly. They open when driving automatically. It has been a problem for so long but my mom has not reported. The paint has chip away and we did not get a recall notice. I checked and now it is too late.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

I purchase this vehicle new from dealer with minimal problems until about 85,000 mile when my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway at 65 mph the vehicle started to shake uncontrollably and she was barely able to get to the shoulder of the road. I drove the vehicle for two day and could not replicate this problem I had the tires balanced to ensure that this was not the issue. My sister-in-law drove the car and the problem happened again to her, she was very concerned because of the way the vehicle shakes uncontrollably at 65 mph. I then started to investigate this problem to find many articles on how the rear motor mount fails on vehicles with as little as 50,000 miles. The dealer states this is a drivability issue and the vehicle will be fine with a new motor mount at the tune of $700. I have owned many vehicles and never had a motor mount issue. Due to the fact that this vehicle has a front wheel drive system when the mount fails the engine does not just rise in the engine compartment but begins to vibrate with the vehicles tires in motion.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

I was not aware that Honda had a recall on the power steerig pump. I have had this problem for over a year. My local dealer (autoparks Honda, cary, nc) is telling me that the recall is over and the extended recall is over so they cannot fix it at no cost to me. I don't understand why Honda will not replace the power steering pump when there was a recall on this part. It is still very hard to turn the steering wheel. I really like my Odyssey and I would like to see Honda stand behind their recalls.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Steering wheel is shaking really bad and pulling to the right.
