After filling the gas tank; a gasoline smell filled the cabin and continued to exist until the fuel pump was replaced by the Honda service department. I inquired as to a recall for this problem and the service adviser stated that he was not aware of any recall notice for the fuel pump problem. A crack was discovered on the top of the device. Would Honda be responsible for the replacement of this failed part?.
A strong gasoline smell in the cabin and on the outside of the 2005 Honda Odyssey van. I called Honda in October about it they said take to dealer to check fuel relay switch, dealer said it was okay, but to diagnose the smell they have to charge me $120. I did not have the money so I had to leave. Been sick with dealing cancer appointments and , had no time or money to deal with car, finally I took it on 12/6/2016 to a private mechanic for only $40 and they said it had a crack on top of the fuel pump casing. But the whole fuel pump had to be repaired and was going to cost $563. They advised me not to drive it around, so I contacted Honda and they said if I take it back to the dealer they might help me with the repair, because they don't want the car to blow up while I am driving it. I inquired as to a recall for this problem and the service adviser stated that she was not aware of any recall notice for the fuel pump problem, but would see if I could get out of warranty help, I told her that I have read online and had printed out so many people stating their 2005 Hondas having this same problem. I would like to have this investigated for a recall. Just because I don't have the money to fix this faulty casing which is a common problem, I should not have to risk mine or anyone else's life. I will repost the outcome, Honda gave me a reference number and said someone should contact me by the end on 12/09/2013 to let me know if the can help with the cost.
Complaint corrected by Honda corporate. Strong gas smell on Honda Odyssey 2005. Was told I had a cracked fuel pump and repair was $565. I saw the other complaints online so I call Honda corporate via Honda. Com and complained and told them I did not have the money. They said take it to a Honda dealer to verify the problem, and they gave me a reference number. And said they will see if I can get an out of warranty fix as a good will jester. Today I dropped the car off to hoehn Honda in carlsbad and the repair was approved for free as a goodwill jester, and Honda is also fixing a seatbealt since the sr light was on and airbag. I am so thrilled. I encourage others to call corporate an let them know that you have seen other complaint on this site, that are to be investigated. Happy day, today!!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that a strong odor of fuel emitted outside of the vehicle near the rear passenger's tire. The driver noticed the cracked fuel filter unit had caused fuel to spray out and filled up the ridge around the fuel filter system whenever starting the ignition. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the fuel filter, fuel pump wire harness and three o-rings were replaced. The sending unit was included in the replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 45,444. . . . . Updated 10-17-13 updated 10/30/2013.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would not restart and it was towed to an independent repair shop. The contact was told that the vehicle stalled because there was no fuel pressure delivered to the engine. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was told that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA recall campaign id number 07v097000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 146,000.
2005 Honda Odyssey won't start, fuel pump problem. There is a known recall for this model year but Honda didn't include this VIN.
Car was vibrating for over a year. Took it to dealership numerous times and they couldn't tell me what it was. Recently got into a car accident. Had car repaired. On the way home car started vibrating violently and vsa light came on. Car stopped working. Towed to shop and was told fuel pump needed to be replaced due to bad gas. I asked for sample of gas. Have yet to receive it. Need to know what to do. I saw recall on fuel pump 2005 model year.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they informed the failure was attributed to the electric fuel pump. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 07v097000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). The VIN was not included in the recall. The part was unavailable and the technician was unable to provide an arrival date for the repair part. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My wife was driving our 2005 Honda Odyssey lx van and it died on the highway. She was able to coast to the side, get it to start one more time and limp into a parking lot(it died at the entrance of the lot). The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they looked at it and could not duplicate the problem. It was presumed that it was possible bad gas, or a 1 time glitch. I was told I could pick the vehicle back up. Not feeling comfortable with putting my wife and 1 yr old son back in the vehicle, I drove it 30 miles until the problem duplicated again. It died on a country road. I was told to wait a little bit and try and drive it in, it died several more times before finally dying on a bridge and needing a tow. After a few days the problem was finally tracked down to a faulty fuel pump relay. I was told this part was on national backorder which leads me to believe there may be more cars out there with this problem. If this occurs in the city during a left hand turn, it could have deadly results. I also wonder if this was related the fuse recall (my van was not included in the fuse recall). I am awaiting the part to arrive and be installed.
