1 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and the brakes are terrible. The brake pedal is soft and sometimes goes to the floor. The brakes also make a grinding noise when applied. I had the brakes inspected but the pads were fine. I have been informed that this is a common problem with Odysseys.

2 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

I have a 06 Honda Odyssey with 39,000 miles. Rear brakes started making a grinding noise. When I inspected, one of the brake pads had completely worn out with no brake materials left.

3 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 30 mph she experienced difficulty steering, and heard a loud grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure. She also heard metal grinding coming from the rear brake system. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 50,000 . The current mileage was 69,000.

4 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2006

I would have to agree with the owner that submitted odi case #:10169618 (see below), our 2006 Odyssey is experiencing the same problem with the left front brake. It just so happens that I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow just because it has finally gotten to the point that my wife now notices it and can pin point where she believes it is coming from. Honda dealers recommend at 15k as part of their minor service caliber lubrication. If this is such an issue with the calipers why don't they include this as a warranty checkup for the brake pads, instead they decide to charge us for their labor. This problem with the brakes as described below has happened around 8 different times over a span of 4 months. Vehicle currently has 17k on it. Case #10169618 the Honda Odyssey in question was purchased in the 1st week of January 2006 and had about 6000 miles on it. I noticed that the front brakes were making grinding noises while stopping. These noises are not so prominent when the brakes are applied mildly (as in the case of coasting to a stop), but are clearly heard inside the cabin when the brakes are applied a little more firmly (as one would do it to bring the vehicle to a halt quickly). I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership to have this looked at. Later in the day I was informed that and the front brake pads have been replaced and the rotors refinished due to a defect in the front brake pads. I have a reason to believe that there have been more cases of this happening and I would like to request NHTSA to look into whether this is a more prevalent problem than just a random incident.

5 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2006

I have owned a 2006 Honda Odyssey for three years and the brake pads have a severe grinding noise once they heat up. The easiest way to make the brakes to grind is to perform three or four successive stops, light, hard, med, it makes no difference. Bottom line, once the brakes get hot, the grinding will continue until the brakes and rotors have cooled. The dealer noted the problem under warranty and replaced/resurfaced the pads and rotors. One year later and the problem was back. I have also noted that the stopping distance tends to increase when the grinding is taking place. I have also noted the softening brake pedal in my 2006 Honda Odyssey.
