1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2025

On Saturday, may 24, 2025. I had my foot on the break as I was turning into the driveway of the building. Suddenly the car engine reved and the car acceletated toward the building wall. As this was happening I began to pump on the break and the car only stopped because it it hit the curb. This cause my passenger and me to lunge forward. My passenger hurt their wrist putting their hands on the dash as they braced for impact and I hit my forehead on the stearing wheel. . The airbags did not deploy. My cars front bumper was pushed in at the bottom and out on the right side. Thank god there was no one walking on the side walk,. The car could have crashed iinto a person or the building. There were no warning indicators . There was no police called since no one was seriously injured and the only damage done was to my car. I then carfully and slowly drove the car home and parked it. I had to wait till Tuesday to take the car to the mechanic. He kept it for 2 days and could not find anything wrong. This was very scary and I am afraid the continue driving this car. This had never happenef before. I would like the car checked for any recalls and inspected by the dealer.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

I purchased a used vehicle from an auto auction. After the purchase, I discovered through carfax and autocheck reports that the vehicle had a history of severe damage and an odometer discrepancy, both of which were not disclosed prior to the sale. The vehicle was sold with a clean title that stated “actual mileage,” but available records contradict this, indicating possible odometer fraud and prior total loss or structural damage. This raises concerns of title washing — where previous branded or salvage titles are "washed" clean through certain state dmvs — and calls into question the accuracy of the title issued shortly before the sale. The clean title was issued just one day before the auction sale, despite existing documentation showing serious history issues. The current situation poses a potential safety risk if the structural integrity was compromised in the previous damage. I still have the documents and inspection results available upon request. No resolution has been offered despite raising the issue with the auction.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

The car is not shifting properly and lags or hesitates when changing gears. This issue causes the car to jerk, particularly when transitioning from lower gears to higher ones. Additionally, there has recently been a noise coming from the driver's side wheel, although the brake pads are in good condition.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2023

My wife was driving our 2014 Odyssey. She went to visit a neighbor. As she pulled up in the driveway and applied the brakes the car acceleration engaged. She was unable to stop the car. I hit the neighbors garage door, totaling it and damaged both of their cars inside. She had complained previously about what she had described as a braking problem. The car was taken into Honda service to check out the brakes and they were inspected and the car road tested and nothing was found. Since the accident the body was has been repaired and the car was returned to Honda for a diagnostic check-up and nothing was found again. I have a customer service claim with Honda USA but have not heard back from their claims manager.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2022

This is now the third time my transmission has died (while driving). My vehicle only has 85,000 miles, there is clearly a recall that needs to happen. Honda needs to also act honorable and repair my vehicle free of charge as this transmission they put in only a few years ago.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

My engine sparkplugs keep getting oil fouled causing rapid deceleration of van and check engine light to turn on damaging plugs, this only happens in the cylinder head closet to firewall, this engine defect may be due to Honda vcm system. Honda effuses to acknowledge my complaint. The other problem is the transmission that shacks the van and slams as I come to a stop I started to complain at 26,000 miles but they would not fix it unless it failed completely at 95,000 when it got worse Honda said it was out of warranty.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

I was pulling into a drive through on December 6, 2020. As I applied the brake (I drive with one foot - my right foot) with my right foot, the engine revved up and the van moved about 5 feet forward as I increased the brake pedal pressure. I then shifted into neutral. The engine went to red line. I pushed the power button. No one was injured, and the vehicle didn't touch anything as the drivethrough ahead of me was empty. The day before, the ldw and fcw fail light came on in the dashboard while my wife was driving. We have taken the van to the local Honda dealership for a checkout / diagnostics of what happened. Honda has opened a case on this for case is 11754879. No pictures or video available, unfortunately, although I am checking with fadi's at 12360 westheimer road 77077.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

We have a pearl white Odyssey. The paint has peeled off 2 times, and we are told it is not covered! I have seen and heard of issues with this same paint on other Honda vehicles. Honda knows there is an issue with the paint on these vehicles! they should fix this instead of the customer, since they are aware of the issue since the beginning of manufacture of the vehicles that have this paint on them! now we have a car that we want to keep for a while but we need to keep spending funds to keep it looking nice, when Honda should be covering a known flaw. Also, the transmission has constant hesitation when doing regular driving. It like it cant find a gear.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

In the morning when I first turn on the car there is big jerk when changing gears from 15 to 20mph I turn the car off and back on and it goes away this happens only once in the morning. During the day driving the streets a very small shudder jerk is felt not as big as the one in the mornings but this one is constant through the day.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

I was driving my odessey home from work in average rush hour traffic. 30 minutes after leaving work, I came to a stop at a stop light. When I accelerated upon the light turning green my van shuddered/jerked when shifting gears between 15 & 20 mph. I thought it might have been a fluke or bump in the road. Then I came to another stop at a second stop light, not five minutes later, and again when accelerating it repeated the shudder/jerk upon shifting between 15-20mph. I then continued another 20-30 minutes home and the issue repeated every time I had to slow my speed below 20mph it shuddered/jerked upon accelerating. I made it home, did not turn off the van, my husband got in and drove it to a local shop about 5min down the road and experienced rough shifting from park into drive and the continued issue of rough shifting between 15-20mph. At our arrival to the shop he turned off the vehicle for about 5 minutes and then restarted it and we returned home. On this return trip and the next day on my commute to work there are no further issues of rough shifting or jerking when switching gears. But nothing was done to cause this to start and other than turning off the van and restarting it, nothing was done to remedy it either. I did not take it to a service center, because the issue can not be replicated at this time.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

Went to start the the van wouldn't start. Pushed the push start again it started. Got 10 minutes down the road going about 30 mph and felt a hard jerk and it shook a few times and the started idling hard and jerked forward . Sounded like something was going to fall out the bottom of it. No service lights came on. Then got to work shut it off when back out 10 min later and the check engine light and the fcw light was on felt like it was still ideling hard. Looks like there is a lot of complaints about the same issue. Wonder why Honda is not recalling them. I have 61,300 miles on mine. So how many complaints does a car company have to have to issue a recall. These are not inexpensive vehicles. May have to look into an attorney. I can see where this could be a safety issue.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2018

Transmission shutters. See service bulletin 17-043 and 17-044.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2018

2 potential safety issues occurring at 55000 miles or less with no recall from Honda: transmission jerking at low speeds and warped brake rotors at low mileage: issue 1: when traveling up a hill (small to moderate grade) the van has a jerking motion and the needle on the odometer bounces back and forth about 200 rpms with the foot steady on the gas pedal. This has happened for quite some time on hills but now at 55000 miles the van is doing it on a level service while in 2nd gear (or when transitioning to 2nd from 1st). Again the foot is steady on the gas pedal and the van jerks with the needle bouncing on the odometer a few hundred rpms back and forth for a short bit until into 3rd gear. I read of a TSB 16-060 that the cause is improper heating of the transmission fluid. The short-term fix is to drain and fill the transmission fluid while a future fix is a software update that is not yet completed. Issue 2: when braking there is violent vibrations in the steering wheel. I took it to the dealer, don't remember the date but while still under the 3 year/36000 mile warranty, they turned the rotors which caused the vibrations to go away. Now at 55000 miles the van is again having violent vibrations while braking. The rotors should not warp so fast, with low mileage.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

When accelerating from a stop light or from a situation such as slowed traffic in a stop and go setting, vehicle regularly lurches and transmission hesitates before locking into correct gear and suddenly accelerating forward. It seems as if the computer is searching for correct gear, but hesitates way too long to lock in as engine speeds have already increased. This happens most often after engine has warmed fully.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2018

We came to a stop at a light and as we started moving when light was green in slow speed something made a big clunk and each time we came to a stop and pressed on gas pedal to proceed then clunk and jerk became louder and more intense. We pulled over turned van off started it again and it quit. We have it in the Honda dealer now and they can't find anything. They did add transmission fluid. Keeping over night per our choic out of two (or pick up and take home), to see if it does same thing in the morning. It's very scary we don't really trust it on trips. So disappointed. Please help us! there is on youtube the very same thing happening to ours in same make and year van. Https://youtu. Be/4d2ljtbuaks. Seems as though when it goes to shift into second thats when it clunk and jerks.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2018

Car jerks violently during mild acceleration, when the transmission shifts between first and second speeds. This can occur right after startup or can start after the car has been running and the car slows down to first gear. It continues until the ignition is turned off. The problem dissappears when ignition is turned off. It occurs very randomly, I. E. , intervals of weeks or even months. It is almost impossible to have it occur at the dealer service dept. , and it does not give a computer code. The dealer checked the transmission and could not find the cause.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Despite keeping up with the required maintanence, I had to have the transmission rebuilt at 100k miles. Shifts very hard when I'm in traffic- lurches. Huge spot of paint peeling off the back (since ineasnt the original owner Honda wouldn't fix it) paint is now starting to chip heat the chrome on. Both doors.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Since I bought have been to delar more than 15 times for transmission gear shift issue now getting increase on low speed hard downshift or clunk when slowing down to a rolling stop.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

Transmission bucking at low speed after driving a while. When I drive my van off the drive way, everything behaves normally. The issue happens when it was driven for 30 minutes or so. After on the freeway for 30 minutes or longer while stopping at the off ramp waiting for the green light, the vans has problem trying to shift between speed of 20-40mph. The vans body shakes violently as if it was driving on a road with multiple low speed bumps. The transmission has difficulty hunting for the correct gear. I can see the rpm moving up and down crazily as if it engages a lower gear and immediately decides to switch to higher gear multiple times. The problem is most prominent when the vehicle is at complete stops and trying to speed up on the incline street. When it is on high speed, such as 50 mph and above, it drives smoothly. I think the vehicle is trying to compensate between best gear ratio and best fuel economy gear at the given speed. A the speed where constant speed is not achieved such as hill climbing or accelerating from stop at the off ramp traffic light, the computer confused.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car did not accelerate and at approximately 20-30 the car violently bucked/jumped. This happened ever time I tried to accelerate onto an interstate highway, after slowing down on a city street, or in my neighborhoodt to make a turn or for a red light. So, it happened actually anytime the speed dropped below approximately 20 mph.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

Clanking and jerking will not accelerate also was hit in DC traffic and it could not keep up. Took it in a with video and Honda acted as if they didn't know what was going on.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

Transmission exhibits jerky shifting under low speed, light acceleration conditions. Generally when going from first to second gear. Not performing. At all what a car of this price should no recall but plenty of people are complaining about this lousy transmission.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2017

When pulling out after a stop sign or turning right after a full stop the transmission will violently jerk the car forward. Honda recommended flushing the transmission two times to fix "manufacturer defect" and it did not work, actually is now worse than before the flushing, we paid $297 and not fixed. See attached receipts.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2016

I stopped the vehicle on an inclined street to talk with a neighbor. He asked me to look at something so, I turned the ignition off not thinking the gearshift was still in the drive position. After the engine stopped I started to exit the car when it began to roll. I applied the brakes then restarted the car and shifted into park. This is a safety issue requiring a recall before somebody gets injured or killed.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

Transmission exhibits jerky shifting under low speed, light acceleration conditions. Generally when going from first to second gear. Told dealership immediately before car left the lot and was told they would fix it. Called me two days later saying it was done, but car continues to do so. Service departments are a waste!.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

While I am driving the Honda Odyssey today, everytime I was increasing the speed from 0, it was giving big jerk. I stopped and again increased the speed, same problem. I turned it off and restarted, then it was fine. Same thing happened many times in past, but never recognized the pattern.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

Transmission has hard jerk when shifting at every gear level (1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. ) Honda dealer reports that the fluid is black. It only has 57,000 miles. I see many other people online complaining of transmission problems on the 2014 Odyssey. . . Honda should issue a recall.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Transmission problems with the car bucking when slowly accelerating after a stop. Also accelerating problems with it being jerky and/or un-smooth. It sometimes jolts forward as well. We just purchased this car used from a dealer less than 2 months ago with 16,500 miles on it.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2016

Our 2014 Honda Odyssey has 41,000 miles on it and we have had to have new brakes three times and rotors resurfaced twice. We just had to have a bent axle replaced. The new axle was also bent so a third one had to be installed.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

My 2014 Odyssey have the transmission clunk. When slowing down to under 20-30km/h then lifting off the brake then applying the gas the transmission clunks/shudders loudly and you feel it. I can reproduce this 95% of the time. I will be taking this into the dealer and will update. But seeing that there are numerous people complaining of this exact thing Honda needs to issue a recall.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

We bought a 2014 Honda odessey it's started jerking when it was 7500 miles while driving in surface street in henderson, nv we immediately took it to the dealer have it fixed they said they updated the software then started jerking again for the 2nd time when it was 2700 miles that almost cause us into an accident while driving to los angeles. We had it towed on 11/29/15 by aaa from la to oc in our hotel because it is unsafe to drive with my kids in it. This car is dangerous because the jerks comes and go everytime we take it to the dealer they keep saying it needs an software update they kept our car at the dealer for 2 days this time they said nothing wrong with it they updated the software again. We lived in las vegas now we are afraid to make a long trips because we feel like this car is not safe enough for my family. They can't just keep updating software on their transmission everytime the van jerks. Plus we never know when the jerks is going to start and stop especially when you are far away from home. This is not reliable and unsafe. The Honda need to do something about it for the safety of the consumers.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

I leased my 2014 Odyssey on June 2014. I'm complaining about its jerking, those loud clunk during shift to 1st to 2nd gear started yesterday evening when I drove home with my wife from airport in stop and drive traffic. The car's transmission continued to do this every time I tried to accelerate between 10-20 miles per hour. It continued to jerk and clunk for 10 miles as I drove on the freeway. This is dangerous and made our hearts beat as it felt like the engine was going to fall out. I took the car to the dealer next day morning and they told me nothing wrong with the car as no diagnostic codes came up. They cannot get the car to duplicate issue now. I have to bring the car to them as soon as the problem occur. They only did software update for me at that time, hope it will help. For one year old 12000 mileage car, I think this is a serious problem. The reason I chosen Honda Odyssey was its safety rate. Now I felt unsafe in this car, especially with my two kids. I started looking online and I see a lot of people complaining about this issue now! hoping NHTSA help us pushing Honda to fix this problem before terrible things happen.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

On several previous occasions and on this date in particular experienced a serious jerk that appeared to be transmission related when starting back from a low mile per hour slow down. After the jerking between gears it seemed to operate more smoothly the next time. This intermittent problem is concerning as the vehicle has less than 15,000 mile but the warranty is almost half over in months. Am considering pursuit of a "lemon" law claim for this and other more minor issues. We told the dealer of the incidents and they said that the next time it happens we need to go to a Honda dealer immediately and not turn off the engine to see if the error is recorded in the on board diagnostic system. Not a very convenient fix.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

We have had ongoing issues, beginning at about 30,000 miles with a noticeable judder in the transmission. The vehicle now has approximately 117,000 miles and continues to develop this problem on average about 10,000 miles after transmission fluid change. This coincides with NHTSA reference #10084801. As of yet, I have not been able to find any resolution to the TSB, and I am growing frustrated by the suggested "solution" of triple changing the transmission fluid every time the symptoms surface every 10-15,000 miles.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

When traveling at low speeds the car jerks and feels like you drove over something large when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. In 2nd gear there is significant loss of power and inability to sufficiently accelerate. Stopped, put car into park, tried again. Car proceeded to jerk horribly every time when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Took to the closest dealership. They were unable to replicate the problem. At times it almost felt as if the car was out of my control because of the jerking.
