1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2026

While brake pedal depressed and car coming to a stop at a traffic light, car surged forward as engine revved and hit another car in front of it. Brake pedal was depressed the entire time.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2025

On Saturday, may 24, 2025. I had my foot on the break as I was turning into the driveway of the building. Suddenly the car engine reved and the car acceletated toward the building wall. As this was happening I began to pump on the break and the car only stopped because it it hit the curb. This cause my passenger and me to lunge forward. My passenger hurt their wrist putting their hands on the dash as they braced for impact and I hit my forehead on the stearing wheel. . The airbags did not deploy. My cars front bumper was pushed in at the bottom and out on the right side. Thank god there was no one walking on the side walk,. The car could have crashed iinto a person or the building. There were no warning indicators . There was no police called since no one was seriously injured and the only damage done was to my car. I then carfully and slowly drove the car home and parked it. I had to wait till Tuesday to take the car to the mechanic. He kept it for 2 days and could not find anything wrong. This was very scary and I am afraid the continue driving this car. This had never happenef before. I would like the car checked for any recalls and inspected by the dealer.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2024

1st incident fall 2023 approaching a stop sign, decelerating from 30mph I pressed on the brake to complete the stop but the engine roared, rpms revved, & the vehicle accelerated, better it lurched, forward. I mashed down the brake pedal as hard as I could but it would not stop the vehicle. All I could do was put it into park. Happens almost weekly, at least 7 times, but not predictably. Once in December, I was approaching a four way stop sign around 3:30pm, I had been driving the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes & the weather was good (no ice, partly cloudy, roads clear & dry). As I came to the stop sign, pressing the brake the final time to complete the stop, it roared loudly, the rpms jumped high, and the vehicle surged forward through the intersection. I let off the brake and tried to smash it down again, but it wouldn’t go to the floor (only a mild decompression) so I powered through the intersection, thank god no one was coming. I didn’t pull over or turn the vehicle off, I continued going my way home. 15 minutes later, turning into my driveway the brakes worked normally, like nothing had happened. Jan 5 2024 I took it to a Honda dealership. They upgraded the transmission & flushed the transmission lines three times. They were unable to replicate the issue & could not detect any codes or communication of an issue in the system. I took it home with no answers. Jan 23 2024 I was approaching a stoplight to turn left. I was driving, my brother was in the passenger seat. Weather conditions were good: clear skies, no ice/rain/snow, roads dry & clear. I had been driving the vehicle for less than 10 minutes & I had given it ~ 5 minutes to “warm up” since it’s minnesota. I met a stop sign w/o issue, but then as I approached a nearby stoplight it surged forward just like before. I pressed the brake to complete the stop, the engine roaring so loudly my brother said “it’s gonna blow up!” back to Honda dealership on Jan 31. Still no resolution. Can’t replicate.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2023

My wife was driving our 2014 Odyssey. She went to visit a neighbor. As she pulled up in the driveway and applied the brakes the car acceleration engaged. She was unable to stop the car. I hit the neighbors garage door, totaling it and damaged both of their cars inside. She had complained previously about what she had described as a braking problem. The car was taken into Honda service to check out the brakes and they were inspected and the car road tested and nothing was found. Since the accident the body was has been repaired and the car was returned to Honda for a diagnostic check-up and nothing was found again. I have a customer service claim with Honda USA but have not heard back from their claims manager.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

Failing system: cruise control. Attempting to stop vehicle at stop sign, engine raced, vehicle surged ahead, and could not be stopped by braking. Mechanic (not Honda) said fault was in cruise control system--that "cruise" was turned on, and even though cruise speed control was not set, the car was attempting to "return" to some set speed. (normally, braking (or pressing the accelerator) turns cruise speed control off. ) several reports of the same problem appear in prior complaints, though I saw none that identified what my mechanic said was the problem. Has recurred, but not when "cruise" lamp was on. Availability: yes. Safety: serious, potentially life-threatening problem should the car enter an intersection with cross traffic, or overrun a barrier, or into a vehicle (or anything else) in front. First time it occurred was at the end of a long trip, mostly on the freeway (much on cruise control) but not at the first stop after leaving the freeway. Reproduced/confirmed: not replicated by mechanic--"random occurrence". Inspected: no. Warning lamps: none observed.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The fuses keep having to be replaced because when it transitions from eco to regular the car stutters and the engine light comes on and starts blinking. I then have to turn off the car and restart it. The car only goes up to like 20mph the slowly increases then decreases again the light comes back on. This began happening about 6 months ago but maybe a little bit beforehand. . . Not exactly sure of the exact date. The first time it happened I was driving to work.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car did not accelerate and at approximately 20-30 the car violently bucked/jumped. This happened ever time I tried to accelerate onto an interstate highway, after slowing down on a city street, or in my neighborhoodt to make a turn or for a red light. So, it happened actually anytime the speed dropped below approximately 20 mph.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

My Honda Odyssey has been hesitating during acceleration, we almost got rear ended due to this issue. I think this is a safety problem that needs to be fixed.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

When I try and accelerate from a slow or stopped position my vehicle stutters or hesitates before speeding up. It's been doing this now for several months. I noticed it after my filter was changed on oct 26,, 2016 at the dealership. When my sons raised the hood they found the top was not closed down and locked on the filter. A lot of trash had gotten in there. The problem seems to be getting worse. I've mentioned it to dexter alexander and he had the service guys blow it out but it hasn't helped. This is a $38,000 vehicle that I'm paying on every month. This should' be happening. This is my second Odyssey. Never had a problem with my first one. Please please please figure out what's causing this and fix it. I'd hate for you to lose me as a customer.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2016

My Honda Odyssey 2014 is shaking a lot when speed is accelerated up around 20-25 mph. This iissue happened the first time a few weeks ago. Today, this issue happens again. It is scary to drive back home from work today. Since this issue happens multiple times, I think it can be a defect, which Honda should issue a recall.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated to approximately 20 mph and would not accelerate. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal with no results. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a sensor replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

I leased my 2014 Odyssey on June 2014. I'm complaining about its jerking, those loud clunk during shift to 1st to 2nd gear started yesterday evening when I drove home with my wife from airport in stop and drive traffic. The car's transmission continued to do this every time I tried to accelerate between 10-20 miles per hour. It continued to jerk and clunk for 10 miles as I drove on the freeway. This is dangerous and made our hearts beat as it felt like the engine was going to fall out. I took the car to the dealer next day morning and they told me nothing wrong with the car as no diagnostic codes came up. They cannot get the car to duplicate issue now. I have to bring the car to them as soon as the problem occur. They only did software update for me at that time, hope it will help. For one year old 12000 mileage car, I think this is a serious problem. The reason I chosen Honda Odyssey was its safety rate. Now I felt unsafe in this car, especially with my two kids. I started looking online and I see a lot of people complaining about this issue now! hoping NHTSA help us pushing Honda to fix this problem before terrible things happen.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light flashed constantly. In addition, the rpms decreased, there was a loud noise coming from the vehicle, and there was a drastic reduction of speed. The vehicle was also shaking and vibrating, which caused the contact to be unable to control the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions where the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,774.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the speed decreased without warning. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,300.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

As I was trying to stop at a red light and my legs only on the brakes, the car started accelerating and had to press the brakes so hard with my entire body weight on it to make it stop - had I left a fraction loose the car would have just taken off. . . So scary and not safe at all. . . The weird thing is that it didn't happen for the next 50+ miles I drove. . . But this incident makes sure that this vehicle is totally unsafe for any one to drive. I'd like to lodge this complaint on this vehicle and that the vehicle taken away for r&d to resolve. . Honda dealer is claiming that there is no issue and that I may have pressed the gas along with the brakes and was talking about the Toyota camry issue aimlessly and had asked me to have a test drive and trying to talk me out of this. . .
