1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

On December 31 at approximately 300 p. M. , our 2015 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and complete loss of motive power while traveling eastbound on the sam houston parkway south just after crossing the buffalo bayou toll bridge at highway speed. While driving normally, the check abs warning light illuminated. Immediately afterward, multiple dashboard warning lights began flashing and the engine abruptly shut down with no warning. The vehicle lost all ability to accelerate and became disabled in active traffic lanes. Steering and braking were severely affected due to the sudden loss of power. Hazard lights were activated while the driver attempted to move the vehicle from the middle lane to the shoulder. We narrowly avoided a collision and were able to stop near the pine avenue on-ramp. Once stopped, the vehicle completely shut off and would not restart. All vehicle systems appeared inoperative except for the hazard lights, indicating a possible electrical system failure. Emergency services were required due to the dangerous location. The vehicle was occupied by five people, including three children. The sudden loss of motive power at highway speed created an extreme safety hazard and could have resulted in serious injury or fatality.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2025

I am submitting this urgent complaint regarding my 2015 Honda Odyssey, equipped with the 3. 5l v6 engine referenced in (TSB) 20-023 which acknowledges that the front rocker arm oil control valve (spool valve) gasket may fail and leak engine oil directly onto the alternator located beneath it. This condition can cause alternator contamination, charging system failure, electrical malfunction, and potential fire risk due to oil exposure to electrical components. Despite knowledge of this issue, Honda did not notify vehicle owners and did not initiate a recall. Before the first breakdown occurred, I experienced a frightening and dangerous incident while in traffic. Without any human interference and without my pressing the accelerator, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and moved forward on its own, nearly striking the vehicle in front of me. I had to react immediately to prevent a collision. This unexpected surge was extremely disturbing and appeared to involve an electrical malfunction. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle broke down. After the first breakdown, I replaced the battery. Within approximately one hour of driving again, the vehicle failed again due to alternator failure. I was stranded at night, in darkness, alone, and exposed to active traffic. This created an immediate and foreseeable risk of collision, serious bodily injury, or death. Another car in that area around that time broke down on the highway I was expected to use and was hit by a semi on 95 and the driver of the stopped car was killed. That could have easily been me. A defect that can cause sudden electrical malfunction, unintended vehicle movement, loss of charging capability, vehicle disablement in traffic, and potential fire hazard constitutes a safety-related defect under federal motor vehicle safety standards. I respectfully request that you initiate a formal investigation evaluate whether a recall is warranted. Require reimbursement for repair costs thank you very much.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked and lunged forward while depressing the accelerator pedal, as the vehicle would shut off. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was discovered that oil had leaked onto the alternator. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 135,000.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

A spool valve leak occurred leaking oil onto the alternator which caused it to fail when driving. When it failed, electrical systems started to shut down. At first, the abs system indicator lit up. Multiple systems started to fail soon thereafter. Upon pulling over on the freeway, the vehicle was unable to go in reverse. The root cause was a spool valve leak that is well known and consequently puts drivers at risk when driving at high speeds. When driving down the interstate, all the electrical systems started to shut down. The abs system was the first indicator, along with multiple electrical systems soon thereafter. Once pulled over, the vehicle could not go in reverse as well. . Read more...

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2023

I am deeply concerned about the sudden breakdown of my vehicle due to the spool valve leaking onto the alternator and caused the loss of power and stalling of the vehicle while driving out of town and on an interstate. This was an extremely scary time for me and my family being stranded on an expressway for over an hour and trying to figure out how to get my kids and family to safety. I have heard of others having the same issue with the same make and model vehicle and their repairs was covered by Honda. I don't understand why my issue would be any different and why my repairs are not currently covered by the Honda service bulletin. I would extremely hope Honda take a deeper look at including my VIN in the service bulletin. I now understand this to be a well known issue as published in Honda technical service bulletin TSB [xxx] however, no information was sent to owners even though Honda has known about the issue since at least March 2020. This puts unnecessary safety risks for those driving with oil leaking onto the alternator resulting in electrical system shutdowns and issues driving. I believe a recall and safety notice should be issued. Yes, the component was inspected by Honda and replaced. The first indicator was the abs system warning light along with many other systems shutting down. This occurred at a high-rate of speed on the freeway. I am frustrated Honda has known abut this issue for many years, but has not informed owners nor offered to correct the issue leading to safety issues and costly repairs. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) look forward to hearing better news from Honda and my repair coverage along with Honda standing by its product reliability.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that all the doors in the vehicle failed to lock or unlock. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed the door lock actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a discount. The failure mileage was approximately 115, 862.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2022

This is a new car that has 78,000 miles on it, which I have owned for just about two years. Approximately one year ago, the cable that controls the automatic door open and close on the rear doors of the vehicle broke, on the passenger's side. After a costly repair, it worked again. Today, the same exact issue occurred, on the driver's side rear door, and when I tried to manually close the door, it came off of the track and fell off. The reason I was trying to close the door was because the rear door indicator light was on, and so was the door open indicator, and I didn't want the battery to die while we tried to address the cable. I cannot imagine what would have happened if this occurred while I was driving, if the cable may have hit another car or the road and caused a spark, or if the door just fell off of the tracks while driving. Having this happen twice in two years and a quick google search has shown me that this is not an uncommon issue (so common that the replacement cables are sold on amazon). As I had my toddler in the car, I believed that it was important to report to the NHTSA. The car is currently at the mechanic but can be made available for a quick inspection.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

Key-less start (Smart entry) system is malfunctioning and causing the vehicle to not start.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

Car continues to lose complete battery power. Battery has a charge but will not start the car. Vehicle is in park but completely dead. Nothing was left on in the interior to drain power. No after model additions to the vehicle.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Rear passenger sliding door power system failed causing the door to be stuck in the open position on 2 occasions. The driver's side rear sliding door has also done the same. The cause is the nylon rollers on the door wear out and cause the door to pull unevenly which in turn cause pulley system and cabling to pull at an unnatural angle in the mechanism/drive motor causing the door to be inoperable. This causes the door to not be able to be opened or closed in the immediate instance which this happens. This causes the vehicle to be undrivable until the cables are cut allowing the door free flow alng the track manually without restriction. At a later date and time, the nylon rollers have worn out to the extent that the passenger side rear door has become uneven in the track making the door inoperable at any time as the door is unable to be opened completely. This is both an annoyance that only the driver rear door is operational as well as a safety hazard causing the only exit of the rear of vehicle to be into the traffic side of the vehicle when stopped on a road, school drop-off, parked along a curbside, etc. This is an ongoing and known issue to Honda, which has a highly priced replacement process in order to correct this issue which includes replacing the rollers with metal rollers as well as a new logic board and a new motor to replace the failed system.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

After driving a few miles under normal conditions we parked our minivan in our parking spot behind our house. While getting out of the minivan there was an odor and a tiny bit of smoke from the engine compartment. After waiting a couple minutes the smoke seemed to go away. We left the minivan parked and about 10-20 minutes later it started on fire and we received a call from our neighbors that the fire department had been called and they were putting out the fire. I am uploading a picture of the burnt minivan and the last service record for a regular oil change on 12/29/2018.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

The sliding door on the driver's side slammed shut when I pushed the close button. If it were operating in manual mode, I would have been prepared for this, and luckily it was only me operating this door in this instance, however, the force with which it shut, unexpectedly, because one tiny electrical wire, which apparently controls the whole thing, became disconnected somehow, was enough to scare me quite a lot about having my children operate these doors in the future, which seems ridiculous - I should be comfortable with the idea of my child being able to safely operate their door. (we were parked facing slightly downhill in our driveway).

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 32 mph and approaching a red light, the motor stopped and all the electrical functions seized. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was turned off, restarted, and returned to normal. The failure recurred once. The contact scheduled a repair appointment with the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,176.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2016

When I tried starting the car several times it wants to turn off and on by itself. The instrument panel lights flick on and off while this is happening. The whole electrical system glitches and the car engine wants to "turn over" then shut off. I have to push the start/stop button on the dash to stop it.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. While driving various speeds or while the vehicle was parked, the passenger side view mirror camera failed to display images on the interior monitor when the passenger side turn signal was activated. Also, the rearview camera grid failed to display on the monitor when in reverse. The vehicle was taken to mcconnell Honda (2840 eastern blvd, montgomery, al 36116 (334) 271-2500) four times, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The dealer stated that when the exterior temperature was hot, the cameras would fail to operate correctly. A diagnostic was performed, which was unable to locate a failure code. The manufacturer was notified, but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

I purchased this vehicle (2013 Chevrolet cruze) in 2016 and it had mileage of 3,500 miles. Less than a month of ownership an alert showed and sounded in the dash lights that the rear driver's side door was open when it wasn't and this was while in a park position and while in motion on any road. The alert was almost constant so I brought it to a repair shop which replaced the latch in the door 3 separate times and the problem still occurred. Eventually I asked to just have the latch disconnected in the door because no one could fix it and stop the alert and sounds from going off. So now I have a $300 latch disconnected inside the door because that wouldn't fix the problem plus I have to manually lock and unlock that door if I need to use it when all of the other 3 doors can be electronically locked/unlocked with the fob or the lock/unlock button in the car. Now a new problem that is currently going on is the rear brake light in the back windshield is very dim while in a park position or while in motion driving on any road. It still works but is not as bright as it used to be. It's a light bar that sits in the back window acting as a 3rd brake light and it does not contain light bulbs. Also, I've had a couple of other alerts show up in the dash for a day or more while in a park position or in motion driving on any road and then they go away after a few days. I suspect this vehicle has an electrical problem and I can't afford to have it diagnosed.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

The van has power sliding doors. Ever since it was new, we have had problems with the doors not closing. We have been told several times by the dealer that it is because we live on gravel. I finally took the van apart myself and found that the rubber coating had come off the cable that closes the door and bunched up and would let it slide freely. I bought a new and within a month it was doing the same thing. The coating was coming off. We just took it back to Honda and were told again it was dust but the coating is coming off the other side and jamming it up too. My wife hit a deer recently and this is where the problem is. The power door wouldn't slide and when you put it on manual mode which shuts the doors off, it won't slide either and my wife had to climb over the front seat and get my son out of his seat. If this was an emergency situation I don't know what would happen. Worst part, my wife says that it has never worked and she asked Honda about it and they said it was because we live on gravel. Now that our warranty is up, they want to sell us a bunch of new parts. I just ask that someone look into this problem because of the safety factor. I consider myself to be pretty strong and I can't sit on the inside the van and force it open so I don't know what my kids would do if something happened to my wife if there was an accident.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Had purchased my 2015 Honda Odyssey in the year of 2015. When I first went in for a first service my car have a light saying check engine, check vsa, check ldw, check fdw and once a while my shake when we are on the road. We told the service people at the dealership to have a look at it but they said nothing wrong with it.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

We were driving down a main road speed approx 45mph, it was 90-94 degrees out so ac was on and it was a severe rain storm. We had just left the highway and were on a main road highly traveled. We noticed it was warm in the car and the ac was blowing hot. All the sudden it was fogging the windows on the inside. We had to pull over to the shoulder in the middle of a storm because we could not see and with the defroster on it was fogging the window worse. We had our 2 children in the back of the van who were scared out of their wits we would be rear ended during the storm. We managed to find a towel wipe the window and pull into a tire/oil change place up the road. They checked the car and said due to the rain the ac condensor stopped working and we had an electrical issue they could not fix. We would need the dealer in the morning. When we woke in the am the van had dried and the ac worked again we returned home and took to our local dealer with an appt 07/03/15 who advised us since it works now their is nothing we can do. We live in a state that rains daily and are afraid to drive the car in the rain now. Dealer states it is not covered under lemon law as it was not life threatening, lack of visibilty to us is life threatening. Please look into this.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2015

Security alarm going off at random times. Initially, unlocked and locked with remote. It went off again multiple time by itself nothing touching it or any door being opened. Seems it is known wide spread issue with hood switch and other switches causing alarms. Have to leave the car unlocked over night because it went off mid night few times. Dealer said it seems it is hood switch(based on diag), but did not happen when it was at dealership. No parts available, so have to wait until parts come in.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2014

Rain water leaking through windows and out of the electrical conduit entering into auto cavity where the sliding door mechanism is. I am concerned about a fire hazard, should I be? please respond as soon as you can as I have tried else where and my problem has not been solved. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you kindly.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

Had problems starting the vehicle earlier in the day - info display showed a warning about multiple systems and wouldn't start the engine. Honda investigated, no fault found, but "two cells in battery low. " they provided a probable cause of "some light left on in the car which drained the battery" (which we knew not to be the case). Same fault occurred after leaving dealership, turned off and on a couple of times, and then it restarted. Driving home at approximately 45mph the car turned itself off - no power steering assist and no gas pedal. Managed to wrestle the car to the side of the road. Managed to start vehicle again after 5 - 10 minutes, but towed to the dealership this time.
