Every time when it rains, the power tail gate fails showing beeping noise from the rear and on the screen and unable to lock the doors. Had to replace the power tail module couple of times so far and still problem persists. The Honda dealership mentioned there was a leak, repaired and replaced the module , inspite of the fix priblem still persists when it rains.
Both of my passenger sliding doors failed, resulting in both of them opening while driving with my children in the back seats. In August 2022, my driver side passenger door swung wide open while I was driving the car, with the error on the dashboard showing door open. Took the car to Honda dealership, who stated that the door latch failed and replaced the door latch. Now, a year later, in October 2023, the same issue happened on the passenger side. The door swung wide open while driving, with the same error appearing on the dashboard. This time, Honda refused to fix it and demanded that we pay $800 for the fix. How do latches on both doors fail?.
After rainfall water is leaking into the rear fuse box compartment located behind the 3rd row seats and causing the tailgate control module and other parts to fail. The tailgate does not have any power and cannot be opened or closed with the fob or the push buttons located in the tailgate or in the dashboard area. The tailgate cannot be locked as the latch does not engage and it can be very risky to drive the vehicle as the tailgate might come open while driving. There might be some opening on the roof of the vehicle from where water is leaking into the fuse compartment and causing this hazardous situation.
The power tailgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey ex-l started opening and closing on its own, seemingly at random. The latch would not cinch and the gauge cluster reported an opening attempt while driving on the highway. This failure cascaded and ended up bringing every device on the b-can network down, including the instrument cluster, heated seats, power sliding doors, adas systems including fcw/ldw/lka and various telltales and buttons on the dash. Upon disassembly of the interior to expose the affected controllers, I discovered that the power tailgate controller was full of water. There was enough water in it to cause arcing of the power and can terminals. I traced the ingress path upwards and discovered a crack in the seam sealer on the roof, underneath the left roof rack rail at the very rear of the vehicle. Water enters under the roof rail, drips down the door hinge, then drips down the body to the cup holder and directly into the controller. To remediate I had to replace the damaged controller and apply seam sealer underneath the roof rail at a cost of approximately $200. I called the local dealer to attempt to report this to Honda but was unable to find the appropriate person. Over a dozen people have reported this issue online and there are pictures of the issue. I posted pictures to one of the links referenced below and have additional pictures. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and not caused by age or use of the vehicle and there is strong evidence it affects a lot of people. The issue will be particularly prevalent when the vehicle is parked outside on a downward incline. I work in a related industry on embedded devices that must meet functional safety standards, and I believe an issue like this would lead to a mandatory safety recall. . Read more...
This Honda odysse 2018 model has leak water on rear corner . You have to find out where is leaking and fix it , if you don't fix water leak after you install new control unit it will happen again . To find out where is leaking is a major problem. Honda do not recall on it.
Goodmorning, I bought my car Honda Odyssey 2018 model, on August 20th, 2018, from Honda of clearlake, in league city, TX, the day they opened new location, this car has been giving us trouble since then. When under warranty the sunroof motor became faulty. I agree that they repaired it but took more than a week to get repaired. The car has less than 30000 miles now, last year November when I was driving car started showing up multiple warning lights, and tail gate not closing and locking and took the car dealer service center and without proper multi point inspection they ruled out its poor battery and changed it. Within a week again the same problem started appearing, took the car to dealer service center and took almost more than week to do inspection and stated that, there is a faulty weld and leak on back tail gate hinges in car and water is seeping into electrical system which is on driver side rear in between plastic trim and main body. This caused a short circuit and multiple warning lights turning on. Electrical system and carpets were damaged, and they recommended to change whole harness and electrical components which will be more than $6000. 00 after a week they stated that it has a faulty caulk on roof were water seeping through, Honda of clear lake service advisor mr. Ted holt agreed that he have come across multiple cars (3 or 4) in same dealer ship with same problems. Nobody knows how many dealers service centers had same problem. This is clearly manufacturing defect and Honda corporate don't want to make this issue a recall. They agreed to replace components, but we have to pay the labor which we agreed, but it's been more than a month which they can't repair and give back our car. Now I think this leak issue and the issue, I mentioned earlier (faulty sunroof motor) is somehow related. I would request you to probe an enquiry into this issue which, can be an electrical and fire hazard and rule out to be a recall from Honda side. Thanking you.
Power rear sliding door will not close properly.
After having the Odyssey repaired for the recall rear passenger door latches, the rear passenger door still continues to open randomly, it has happened on multiple occasions while the vehicle is parked (at a park) with no one near the vehicle, at least twice since the repair while the vehicle is going between the speeds of 35-45 mph the rear passenger door on the driver side slides open.
It is very common for the vehicle model to experience water intrusion toward the back lift gate because of rain. This can cause electric problems with the vehicle that can result in property damage or death. Airbags may not deploy due to water damage as well. Theses vehicles should be recalled as soon as possible. Most owner are not aware of this issue because they park vans in a garage. Please investigate this matter and issue a recall.
Rear hatch on our Odyssey ex-l started giving a "power tailgate problem", and it would not open at all except by mechanically releasing the hatch from the emergency access panel. I replaced the rear hatch control module and the hatch could now again be opened from the outside as normal, but the power tailgate still did not function up and down, and requires manual lifting open and pushing closed. Upon inspection, the removed/malfunctioning control module appears to have failed due to water infiltration, meaning water has entered the inside of the vehicle and then shorted electrical components, potentially creating a fire hazard.
Driver and passenger sliding doors have issues closing sometimes. It would close ranging from 70% to 90% of the way, and then slide back open. This happens occasionally enough to not have confidence in the doors consistently closing. We made sure there were no obstructions to the door, as well as nothing preventing the sliding rail roller from completing full movement. The family would have to attempt to shut it several failed attempts, sometimes up to as much as 10 x times, until it closes. This happens randomly to both driver and passenger sliding doors. This happens every thousand miles or so, and has happened since owning the vehicle. Recall was previously performed on the sliding doors for a seperate issue, but this issue still persist, and am pretty much sure it will continue to happen through the life of the van.
Sliding door not latching all of the way, opening and closing on its own.
I'm constantly having issues with my right sliding door on my 2018 Honda Odyssey, opening after it's been closed and I'm constantly getting beeping alerts on my dash saying problems with right sliding door while I'm driving. It's been happening for a while now. Fortunately, the door hasn't opened while I'm driving on the road yet, although it did occur once while I was backing out of my driveway. I notified the dealer before which they told me there was no recall on the door and they would have to charge me money to try to replicate the problem and if they found nothing wrong, I would be out of that money. There was a recall on the doors back in 2018, NHTSA campaign number: 18v795 but I didn't receive a recall notice. The alert on the dash happens almost daily at random times.
The driver side sliding door will open automatically but will not close. Gives me 3 beeps and doesnt attempt to close. I unplugged the pinch sensor and checked to see if that was the problem but the pinch sensor works as its supposed to. When I plug the pinch sensor back in the motor works to close for a little while but will eventually stop closing soon after. I have repeated this step multiple times and get the same results. The door has done this every now and then up until the last time they did a software update and now it almost always does this.
Passenger sliding doors will freeze in process of closing. Must manually disengage power feature and reset door to fully close. Door will be anywhere from 80% to 95% closed when it fails.
This is regarding the sliding door recall that happened a few months ago. Honda replaced it via recall. Nhtsa recall number:20v-437 mfr campaign a88 campaign description:2018-20 ody sliding door outer handle cables safety recall recall date:07/28/2020 after getting this fixed by Honda, now while driving the car at a certain speed, the system would throw error information, that the right slide door has not closed properly. Even the door is locked, the error is not constant, but it gives errors on and off while driving. This creates confusion for the driver while the vehicle is moving. I guess the recall fix has caused further damage to the sliding door. I have a kid and it concerns me the safety of kids who sit closer to the door. Would like you guys to take a look at this ASAP before a disaster occurs.
Vehicle leaking water on backside and is causing electric issues. One of the issue is rear lift gate malfunctioning. The hatching opening on its own etc which is a safety risk. The dealer repaired this under warranty and they issue came back again almost four times so far. Now dealer is saying the issue is due to leaking water from top which they mentioned after vehicle went out of warranty and asking to contact body shop to identify the leak. The Honda dealer not fixing the issue now. Please check if you received similiar issue and help with me regarding the same.
Transmission hesitates when accelerating from a stop; transmission hesitates between gears while driving; transmission indecisive and slams into a gear and hesitates again when pressing accelerator - all causing loss of acceleration; all warning lights come on and have to jump the van daily to get it to start even though battery is still good and no accessories are on; if there's no power, cannot shift car into neutral to position car to jump or tow it; lose power to multiple systems and have to hold button to reset it; cannot access battery to jump or replace without removing air intake; while driving at highway speeds, unexpectedly lose acceleration like the vehicle shut off; issues with both sliding doors not opening or closing automatically; latch on gas tank door sticks and there is no manual release to open it - had to disassemble it multiple times to put gas in the car; numerous recalls in addition to the above; vehicle is now out of warranty period with unresolved safety and mechanical issues; have experienced issues since the vehicle was purchased new ~August, 2017.
Since late last year, my 2018 Odyssey had been having some issues with the sliding door. Sometimes it doesn't close till I hit the button multiple times so finally, I took it to the dealership. They told me my cess harness is kinked and would cost me $485 for replacing it. The door had at least a couple of different recalls in the past year. The vehicle has only 6500 miles and these wires are not suppose to go bad that fast.
The pinch sensor keeps breaking which then causes the door panel to separate and the window to detach from the vehicle. This is not the first time since we bought it that this has happened.
Metal bar on the side slide back causing can't close tail gate or hard to open. Honda doesn't know what cause it. I am not sure whether it has to do with sliding door recall that it not latch (which already fixed) or slide door push this side metal bar back when open. Honda tech said they saw it in more than 5 vehicles, it catched it before 35k, Honda will cover under warranty. But my car is over 35k so it not cover even under extend warranty. It costs $140 to replace. I am more concern for my kids safety, if they don't know what cause it. It happened after I come in for recall of power replacement in the back.
While vehicle is stationary, after closing the rear door. The door latch will not always hold the rear door in a fully closed condition, causing a door open warning condition. It may take several attempts to forcefully slam the rear door closed before it locks correctly. This happens multiple times each month. On vehicle without auto closing rear door option.
The car has 27,000 miles on it. The engine mount is being replaced due to it being bad, the radio is very delayed and crashes and the sliding door keeps sticking and I have to force it closed.
Power sliding doors sitting on the exterior body when opened. Doors open again right after pressing close button.
The electrical sliding door is opening on its own at night. I was not sure if this was recalled on this vehicle. I could not find it. We also had a 2007 Honda Odyssey that the sliders had the same issue and was recalled. I believe this is recalled for doors opening while driving. It had happened previously before happening last night.
When automatic sliding door open/close is enabled the door will open, but will not close. When the doors are placed in manual mode, the door panel comes loose from the force of the door closing making it so the door cannot be opened because the loose door panel extends out just far enough to wedge itself like a door stop.
When closing the power sliding door, it reverses direction.
***2018 Honda Odyssey caught fire while operational**** on 24th April 2019, on her way to drop our kid to school, my wife was driving our 2018 Honda Odyssey. All of a sudden, this vehicle got smoke at first and then caught fire while it was operational. My wife pulled over and took the kid out immediately. The passing by garbage truck driver started to control fire till cops and firemen team arrived. The fire was controlled by excellent efforts of that cop/truck driver. The fire appeared to have started near 3rd row driver side seat. . . My 3 year old was on the driver side 2nd row seat---just 1. 5ft away from it. Luckily, my wife and child were not hurt. I've been following up with geico insurance, us Honda (case# 09517538) rigorously. I am really inclined to know what went wrong with the vehicle that virtually threatened the lives of my wife and child. I am still awaiting response from them. One of my friends suggested me to report this incident to ntsb and they redirected me to NHTSA. My intent is to ensure that the root cause of this mishap can be identified and rectified ASAP by us Honda as these Honda Odysseys are driven mostly by families with kids. I was under an impression from these followups that this incident has been reported to appropriate federal/state authorities. I just want to make sure that NHTSA help me in my quest to understand what really went wrong.
Both rear doors become stuck and completely inoperable. The power door mechanism has failed and now the door is completely stuck in the closed position. There is no way to manually open the door from the inside or the outside.
Sudden pop noise was heard as coming to a stop on exit ramp of highway. Found out that the sunroof glass was brocken in pieces. Took it to dealer and they determined that something must have hit it without looking at the vehicle. Investigation needs to be done on vehicle prior to customer paying for the since american Honda would not pay for the glass. The dealer wrap the glass over but still thorough investigation has not been done. Called american Honda and they filed it as complaints and believes what dealer says since technician is their investigator. Vehicle has not been looked at by any technician yet.
I have found the power sliding door open when I returned to my parked van. This has happened about 4 times. I have taken my van for recall 18v-795 which has to do with the power sliding door components, but I found my side sliding door open again even after the recall fix. So I think Honda has not completely fixed the whole problem.
Vehicle was parked off street in freezing cold overnight, upper twenties, 32f when this happened. Vehicle is parked not in motion, remote started. Driver door would get locked immediately when unlocked from outside, multiple tries to pull the door handle would unlock and lock immediately and eventually open the door. Once driver gets in, and closes the door, it is locked from inside and would not open. Door lock switch, driver door handle and key fob fail to open the door from inside. Only way to get out of the vehicle is through a passenger door. If the vehicle is unlocked, driver door can be opened from outside but not inside, just like a child lock works on a passenger door. Another tricky way to open driver door is to unlock, roll down the driver window and pull the handle from outside.
"takata recall" second: upon closing the rear sliding doors they became stuck in an open position. It took stopping and physically closing them to ensure they would close and lock. Upon research Honda has a recall for this brand new van for the sliding doors as well but failed to mention it during our recent service and complaint. The vehicle was parked and loading.
Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. This exposes a large area of electrical wires. A driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring. This is an electrical fire hazard and also a safety hazard. Pictures uploaded. Earlier models (2006 which I own) has a majority if this area covered by panel. I contacted the dealer and they said it is normal for 2018 models of Odyssey.
Automatic door on the passenger side closes as passenger tries to get out of the van. Door bounces back and forth and almost injured the passenger. On a separate occasion, the same passenger side door was being opened from the outside and halfway after it opened it bounced and closed almost injuring my son and the preschool teacher.
