Multiple safety systems on my 2019 Honda Odyssey elite have simultaneously failed, including lkas, acc, collision mitigation braking system, auto high-beam headlights, and other driver-assist features. The dashboard displays warnings for nearly every safety-related system, and the vehicle disables these features without warning. **detailed description of the problem:** whenever I start my vehicle, multiple error messages are displayed related to the lane keeping assist system (lkas), adaptive cruise control (acc), collision mitigation braking system (cmbs), road departure mitigation, auto headlights, and other safety features. These warnings appear together and persist even after restarting the vehicle. Apparently, this issue is widespread among 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey owners, with many reporting the same cluster of system failures. The problem appears to be related to a malfunction in the vehicle’s electrical system, sensors/ cameras, or control modules. In my case, the failures occur without any external damage, weather event, or driver action that would explain the sudden loss of safety functionality. When these systems fail, the vehicle disables critical safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automatic headlights. This creates a significant safety risk, especially at highway speeds or in low?visibility conditions. **frequency:** the issue occurs whenever the vehicle is started, affecting my driving everyday.
Multiple system problems constantly on my dashboard. Has brand new spark plugs and battery and problem is still there.
The powertrain jumps sometimes it is not smooth. The brakes does not hold too good.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the abs warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that several unknown warning lights were also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed camera system. The contact was informed that the camera system needed to be replaced, and the software needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,395.
Collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) my 2019 Honda Odyssey slammed on the brakes while traveling 70+ mph on a clear freeway. There was no warning and nothing in the road. I have also had issues with the braking warning light flashing for no reason while traveling down the roadway. I called the Honda dealership and inquired about the braking issues and was told unfortunately it can happen, especially if I drive on windy roads.
At restaurant on 6/1/25, backed out of parking spot. Drove about 30 ft to parking lot exit. Turned onto side street to go to light and turn on main street. About 3 or 4 car lengths from exit to light. Side street sloped down about 20-30 degrees. Brakes would not stop van. Not sure if brakes slowed down van as going slow. However, brake pedal pushed hard down to floor but did not stop van. If hit gas pedal van would have accelerated and engine raced causing acceleration and more damage. No damage to back of vehicle I hit. Very minor damage to my van. Tried yesterday and today to replicate (in isolated locations and with no other vehicle near) the van’s conditions at time of incident. I will be contacting dealer. There is no recall. Do not know if anyone else had this problem or if dealer can find any issue. Notifying NHTSA to advise of this potential systemic issue. I’ll follow up with results of interaction with dealer.
About 5 warning lights came on simultaneously keeping me from driving my vehicle safely.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the messages "emissions system failure", "brake system failure", "brake hose system failure", "power steering failure", "eps failure, "vehicle stability assist (vsa) failure", "hill start assist failure" and "road departure mitigation system failure" were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a vehicle safety complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when the vece was turned on on several occasions, the "emission system problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering eps problem, vehicle stability assist vsa problem, hill start assist problem, and road departure mitigation system problem" messages appeared. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injector kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The impact on the car is we no longer have cruse control (basic feature) and every time we turn on the car we see many warning lights turn on. Some other feature that does not work is lane assist does not work. According to what shows up to on the dashboard there are problems for "road departure mitigation system problem", "auto high-beam problem", "adaptive cruse control problem", "lane keeping assist problem", "collision mitigation system problem", "break system", "left sliding door problem" a quick search on the web indicate this a common issue with Honda car (including Acura). [xxx] another problem we're seeing is driver side sliding door does not close correctly or open correctly. We have since stop using this door since it's very dangerous for our kids since while opening, it would not open all the way and close on the kids. Similar issues [xxx] these two things are broken under 65000 miles and less than 6 years owning the car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
A number of warnings popped adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation problem, and auto high beam problem. Only light that is on is my brake system light. I read a bit on some forums and it is likely to be the the front camera. Apparently the multipurpose camera unit (mcu) fails often on these vehicles, causing these errors and the cruise control to stop working.
All the symbols related adas suddenly popped in my car with no rain or snow or any accidents. When I checked with Honda dealership, they said it caused due to software issue and nothing related hardware and it needed 2500$ for replacing the entire system. If it is software causing this issue why would customer had to pay for it, and it could be a recall. I noticed similar issue for all 2019 and above models.
The whole adas system went down and a brake system light came on. Van isn’t in warranty but isn’t old either. Just out of warranty. Lots of safety items disabled because of a faulty camera that’s too expensive to replace on our own, so now we operate a Mini-van without all the extra safety items that adas gives you. Guess adas was never intended to improve safety if it only works for a couple of years.
The front facing monocular camera of the adas system has failed on this 2019 Honda Odyssey with approximately 50,000 miles. The failure of this camera has rendered the adas systems inoperable including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance. This appears to be a common complaint/failure mode amongst many similar Honda models 2018 - 2022. Please reference Honda related forums linked here and other similar postings on other websites: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Failure of multi purpose camera resulting in inoperable adaptive cruise control (or any cruise control), lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, collision mitigation braking system.
This vehicle has experienced random braking incidents while being operated on highways and other roads. Additionally, within a span of five years, two doors have malfunctioned, and the electrical system required replacement. These defects have jeopardized the safety of my family. The vehicle was purchased new at the time of acquisition. Please help.
I'm experiencing several error messages on my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which include issues with the brake system, lane keeping assist system (lkas), auto high-beam, road departure mitigation system, collision mitigation system, and adaptive cruise control (acc). These warnings are not only persistent but raise significant safety concerns, especially during instances where sudden braking is necessary due to a vehicle abruptly cutting in front. The constant illumination of the brake system lights is particularly alarming as it casts doubt on the reliability of the brakes in critical situations. It appears that these problems are not isolated, as other Honda owners have reported similar safety risks affecting both drivers and passengers.
I have a 2019 Odyssey elite and the following lights come adaptive cruise control problem (acc); auto high-beam problem (a); road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (lkas); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Some say it is the battery, but I have yet to see a post where changing the battery fixed the problem. When the lights are off, all safety features (mitigation, adaptive cruise control, cruise control) work. I assume auto high beam and brakes system will work also. Forgot to add that when I turn the car off and back on, I have to press enter on the steering wheel a couple of times before the lights go off.
Over 20 times our van has breaked when it was not needed. This usually happens when going up a hill and turning, or when a car slows but not enough to need to break. In several instances we have almost been rear-ended due to the sudden breaking. We try to turn off the service, but it has to be turned off each time. With the amount of traffic we have in the area, this is very dangerous.
There was no warning display on car today during the incidents. I pressed the breaks and with my foot on the breaks the car accelerates 3 times. I had a car in front of me which is why I stopped but no no one behind me to trigger the car to propel me forward 3 times despite my foot on the brakes. This is second time it does this. I took it in right away to the shop. The first time was a a couple of months before (may 2023) but I had a car behind me so I figured the car took over to avoid a bump in back…but again my foot was on the brakes. And I had a car in front and in back, which could have caused an accident in front. Weird acceleration all the time: when you are at a stop and try to accelerate, the car stalls and then accelerates abruptly. Very dangerous when you have drivers behind you and in front. Collision mitigation warnings keep popping up since 2022, but shop could not see the issue because the display disappears. It pops up randomly and disappears.
Brakes: there are several manufacturer communications on investigating brake vibration/judder, but it seems nothing has come from it. I have noticed this problem since owning the vehicle. The problem typically happens when on a downhill slope. Even light and smooth application of the brakes will cause a judder. It feels as if the brakes are being pumped on/off resulting in inconsistent braking action, but the pedal is held steady. It is an alarming feeling, but I can guarantee it will happen on a specific hill as I turn into my neighborhood. Another driver complained of the same downhill braking concern. It is something I have learned to live with, but that shouldn’t be the case. Why is there a feeling of brake pressure release and reengaging with a steady brake pedal? maybe it’s the transmission causing it…: transmission: the software with this 9 speed transmission is abysmal. The tech bulletin that was posted merely resets the software. What we need is a software update, or better yet, a removal of the “adaptation to customer’s driving pattern. ” you know what changes? my driving pattern. And my wife’s, who also drives the car. You know how a car should adjust its shift points? the accelerator depression and rate of depression! this transmission feels like it is about to fall out of the bottom of the car on multiple occasions. I’ve never driven a car with a worse automatic transmission shift response. My first automatic was a 1985. Not only does it sound like internal damage to the transmission during hard shift, but many times it leads to poor response to move the vehicle away from traffic. Variable cylinder management (vcm), has a high chance of causing significant damage to power train components with a negligible return in fuel economy. Thanks, Honda…eyeroll.
When braking hard it or on hills shakes the whole vehicle bad. Has been doing this since about 10,000 miles. Was taken back to dealer for this at 12,000 miles . I have new brakes and rotors changed 3 times since. Still not right. I think it’s abs problem or electronic brake issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced phantom braking” and vehicle decelerated to 60 mph. The contact tapped the brakes excessively causing the sudden self-braking to cease. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
I had new brakes put on my car my brakes for less 12,000 miles ago. I took my car back in today my front left brake is cracked and the caliper was blue indicating it was getting extremely hot. I have taken my vehicle in three times for an issue with the radio because I can hear others talking but they cannot hear me. The radio has not work since I bought the car. Also, there are times when I push the gas that the car stalls for a few seconds I am very dissatisfied with the price I paid for this car and all the issues I’ve had.
Going 25mph. Steering wheel shook then dash read in black "brake" with orange background. Van braked on its own. Nearest car was 75 feet away.
Brakes locked when I had to stop abruptly because driver in front started and then stopped. Unable to advance vehicle. Tapping brakes did not release them. Required that I pump brake peddle with force. Created a dangerous situation because I was advancing from a left turn lane and was stuck in oncoming traffic on a busy state hwy.
Car accelerates or bucks when changing gears whilst driving. Returned car to Honda garage twice and they claim there is no fault unless engine light illuminates. Car has only 14,000 miles, front tires have worn prematurely and car shakes when applying brakes.
Brakes: significant vibration at 20k miles. Entire vehicle shakes violently when braking from highway speeds on a steep decline. Electrical: infotainment unit shows no audio available at random times. Ticking or "sleet hitting the window" sound from dash speakers. This is very intermittent and can happen at any time. Seems to come and go.
There is a vibration when brakes are applied on a downhill especially on a 6% grade. Brakes are fine on a straigt non hill and a minor downhill descent. . Vibration seems to occur only when brakes are applied frequently on a steep downhill. Vibration begins with a minor shake than gradually becomes heavy on the shake feeling on the steering wheel and frontal area of van. The front passenger experience the vibration as well. There are 8 passengers on board including our baggage - 4 adults and 3 kids. We notice this problem only on a long decent on a steep hill whill applying the brakes frequently. We felt insecure and had to let go of the brake pedals frequently just to perhaps cool down the barkes then apply again on staggered times. We reported this to a Honda dealer in loma linda and they said its not covered by warranty nor on recall. It was so surprising to hear that because there has been a lot of complaints about this issue and nothing has been done about this dilemma. Its a still a new vehicla and I think there shouldn't even have this sort of problem with only 23000 miles on it and its hardly been used . We only use this for family travels. Pease look investigate on this problem becasuse apparently nothing has been issued to recalls nor covered warrantly especially when its only last year's model 2019!.
Hold brake releases automatically without pressing accelerator.
Four times in last 3 months when heading into sun, 40 mph, empty rural road,, auto braking system flashed crash warning on screen in back of steering wheel. There were no hazards. I question whether the brakes might be applied. Santa fe Honda dealer, on oct 23, 2019 said this happens but is not a problem if I move the steering wheel a little, then the warning will go away and no braking will occur. Nothing dangerous did occur, but I am concerned and disengage the system if I remember. Must be done every time engine is started.
Car automatically shifts the transmission to the park position while in motion; brakes were locked automatically and the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.
Van has shut off while being driven, transmission jumps constantly at 24 mph, radio goes in and out constantly- have no audio 90% of the time, navigation rarely works, car play rarely works, bluetooth drops phone connection consistently, have had rear camera freeze multiple times.
On July 2nd our vehicle wouldn't start. Prior to this date the vehicle worked fine. We call Honda roadside assistance and they came and jumped it. My wife let it idle for nearly 1 hour and turned it off. She returned an hour later only to find it was dead again. I decided to come home and jumped it and drove it down the hwy. While driving down the highway there was some vehicles swearving around some debris on the road and when I applied my brakes the vehicle lost power and I wasn't able to stear the vehicle fast enough and hit some of the debris. I let of the brake and the power came back on. I drove home turned the vehicle off and then tried to restart it again only to discover it was dead. I got out of my vehicle and inspected the front end which had minor scratches and cuts in the lower front driver's side bumper.
Seat belt second row (on the driver side) webbing gets stuck inside and cannot pull often times. I'm not sure if the retractor issue. Break - car itself makes a sudden break and release right away while cmbs system is turned off. Same thing happens while there is no car in front or not switching the lanes.
