problem #1

Prior to this recall, we had noticed an acceleration issue with the car. One day, during our travels, we encountered a severe stall, which could have been a dangerous event. Just as we were grappling with this situation, news of a recall reached us, but unfortunately, the fuel pump required for the fix was unavailable. It was only when the Hondalink app suggested that the dealer could replace the fuel pump that we found a glimmer of hope. Immediately, I secured a reservation for March 15th, 2024. However, upon reaching the dealership, we were informed that the required part was not in stock. Frustrated, I lodged a complaint with Honda, outlining our predicament. Today, on April 4th, 2024, I received a response from them, stating that they would address the issue once the part became available. However, this leaves me in a precarious position. Who will be held accountable if an accident were to occur due to this fault? neither Honda nor the dealer seems willing to shoulder responsibility. Certainly: in their response, Honda has essentially washed their hands of the matter, stating that it is up to me to pursue further action. They suggested that I could either escalate the issue with the NHTSA or explore legal avenues. Despite this, they have chosen to close my query, leaving me feeling abandoned and unsupported in this ordeal. Feeling increasingly uneasy about driving a car with a known faulty component, I am left with no choice but to consider reporting this matter to the NHTSA for serious intervention. I implore Honda to take decisive action, whether it involves replacing the vehicle or compensating for the trauma we've endured during this time. Each time I get behind the wheel of this car, I am acutely aware of the risk posed by the defective fuel pump. It is imperative that this issue is addressed promptly and responsibly.

problem #2

12/21/wheelchair ramp and kneel function failed with no warning. This engaged safety feature that disables gear shift and keeps car in park. Unable to move car or deploy ramp using back-up override. Called mobility works (authorized vmi dealer). Troubleshooting failed to deploy ramp or kneel function. Told only option was to pop off tab next to gear shift and insert screwdriver to override “park” lock. Fortunately, quadriplegic spouse was not in the vehicle or he would have been trapped. 12/26/23 to 1/3/vehicle inspected at mobility works, technician diagnosed controller board failure and recommended replacement. Told vmi lost supplier for controller board leaving no way to properly restore conversion equipment. On 1/3/24 spoke to vmi technician who confirmed controller board is unavailable. He stated vmi engineering department is trying to develop a workaround for a new controller board. Vmi technician also reported two calls a day for this problem, and that it affects their Chrysler conversion equipment as well. 2/7/telephoned vmi technical support. Told workaround for controller board will not be available for months. Told that if quadriplegic becomes trapped in car to call fire department. Told this is an acceptable solution in the mobility industry if back-up fails. Very cavalier, comparing to Ford no longer making fuel pump or fuel hose for his old truck. 4/18/24; 4/25/emailed vmi requesting status of controller board replacement. No response. Conclusion: the controller board failed without warning, causing all conversion equipment to fail, including back-up override, and potentially trapping power wheelchair dependent individuals in their vehicles. Vmi has failed to provide parts for repair of its conversion equipment. Vmi authorized dealer estimates $1,000 to bypass controller board. This will cause certain accessibility functions to no longer work. The vehicle has been unusable for quadriplegic spouse since December 2023.

problem #3

Unknown white pearl paint started peeling under the window of the back hatch. It peeled off like a sheet in a 3” by 3” area. The van is well cared for and is parked under a covered carport. Clearly, it is a manufacturing defect that should not be happening.

problem #4

I received a recall and call from the Honda dealership about a left and right side mirror recall, and they needed to be replaced. They were replaced with distorted blurry concave mirrors. Honda dealership was aware of this issue yet still installed them. After going back and getting them installed again, the mirror is still distorted. There has been no remedy or follow up.

problem #5

1. Car would not stop, while backing out of parking space and almost backed into parked car, transmission put into drive and moved forward hit curb, hopped curb and slammed into embankment. 4/12/23 2. Car would not stop driving down steep driveway and drove onto mlk jr blvd fortunately avoided any other cars. Proceeded uphill slowly and brakes seeded to begin to work better as transmission warmed up. 4/19/23 3. We have not been driving the car since. 4. No filings reported.

problem #6

On 6/18 I installed a set of aftermarket front left and right lower control arms made by mevotech part #'s cms601007 (left) and cms601008(right), mevotech has installed a grease zerk on the ball joints which are not on the oem control arms, in theory this might be good but the grease zerk impacts, interference, with the inside of the wheel. The ball joint grease zerk has hard contact with the inside of the front wheel. - I have pictures of the zerk hitting the wheel and the damage to the wheel. -safety - damage to the wheel while driving resulting in a loss of vehicle control and possible damage to the ball joint again loss of control. - pictures have been sent to mevotech and the parts supplier - parts geek.
