36 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

We were driving on and entering the highway via the on-ramp when we heard a popping noise. Upon hearing the noise the car stalled and was immediately put in neutral. We could not take it out of neutral or restart the car. We had the car towed to the nearest dealership to find out the transmission needed to be replaced. The car has 36k miles and we just purchased it 6 weeks ago. There were no warnings or signs that this failure was about to occur.

37 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 06/22/2022

Since purchasing the vehicle I had issues with jerking of the transmission in 4th or 5th gear around 30-35mph. It most commonly occurred on hills or with slower acceleration like traffic. It's a commonly reported issue with all these models using the zf 9 speed transmission. I was traveling up a hill one day and an engine light came on and car refused to start. The transmission had seized and teeth shattered inside. I was 5,000 miles out of warranty, so had to pay the $7,700 out of pocket to fix. I was working at Honda, so I know the issues with the transmission have been reported (part of the reason the latest full model change is going to the 10 speed Honda transmission).

38 Power Train problem of the 2022 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 05/08/2022

The contact a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the transmission hesitated prior to accelerating. In addition, the contact stated that while reversing, the transmission jerked into reverse. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was persistent during cold temperatures. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that the transmission was shifting normally. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for a second opinion, and the contact was informed that the transmission was shifting abnormally. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 8.

39 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/06/2022

Was traveling at speed of 20 mph on a residential street when engine suddenly paused and car shifted into neutral. There was no indication of an impending engine failure. Emission warning lights came on and I was unable shift the car out of neutral to move it off to the side of the road. After multiple attempts to restart the engine, I was able to engage it in drive and move the vehicle to safe location. Took it to Honda dealer who diagnosed the problem as code p0810 (clutch position control error). The transmission control module was replaced. The dealer contacted Honda who suggested that it could ultimately result in a 2 step repair if the problem recurs. They were unable to reproduce the problem immediately after the repair. The 2nd step would involve replacing the engine harness for $6000. While this definitely posed a risk to safety, it will be a larger safety risk if it fails again while traveling at highway speeds. The technician reported 80% confidence that the situation will not happen again. I am concerned that Honda has shown a reluctance to spend the money to completely mitigate the problem unless they are forced to do so putting their profits ahead of the safety of drivers. Even a 20% risk of failure is unacceptable.

40 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

My 2021 Honda Passport with under 12k miles has gone into neutral on its own twice in the past year ( may and October of 2021) it has also slipped into low gear on its own (d1 of an automatic transmission from d3 or d4 in oct 2021 and March 18 2021. The last incident forced me onto the shoulder to avoid serious injury as I was gaining speed to merge from an entry ramp to a 50 mph, 3 lane rd. I brought it back to the Honda dealer after the March 18 incident and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I don't trust this transmission and will be forced to sell it back to Honda but am leery of it happening to someone else who may not be able to avoid an accident like I did. I also reported these incidents to Honda on 03/24/22 (case# 12912165).

41 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

My 2021 Honda Passport first shifted itself into neutral and displayed a message on the instrument panel saying “stop driving when safe. Transmission problem. See manual” in February 2022. My dealer inspected the vehicle and said no problem codes were stored and returned the vehicle to me. In may 2022, my vehicle displayed the same message and shifted itself into neutral while backing out of a parking space. This resulted in my vehicle rolling forward into the curb. Luckily my vehicle was parked by a curb and not in front of another vehicle where a collision could occur or pin a pedestrian between the two vehicles. My dealer inspected the vehicle again and stated no codes were stored and returned the vehicle to me. Honda has been contacted twice regarding the issue and on the fourth repair attempt, a field engineer inspected the vehicle and could not find any codes stored. The engineer also recommended the vehicle be kept in park while it is not moving.

42 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 12/27/2021

The right axle boot has a layer of grease on the outside and was suspected of being cracked. My vehicle is under it's original 36,000 mile/3year warranty. The Honda dealer repair department stated that the manufacturer does not consider this a defect. To demonstrate to me that this is not a defect I was shown another car with the same issue and was offered the opportunity to view more vehicles with the same issue. Apparently this is evidence to the dealer and manufacturer that there is no problem with the axle boot. I would think that the fact that several vehicles in one shop showed the same covering of grease on the right boot suggest that there is a manufacturing problem. It is also interesting to note that the boot on the left axle is different from the boot on the right and shows no evidence of grease. I am able to drive the car and am assured by the dealer that there is no safety concern. The problem was identified by an independent provider during routine service as the car is under warranty I went to the dealer for repairs. There are no system messages regarding this issue.

43 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 10/06/2021

Multiple times when my car is in drive I will receive a message on the dashboard saying "transimission problem. See manual" when this happen the car automatically shifts into neutral and will not shift back into any gear other than park unless I completely restart the car. . Read more...

44 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 06/26/2021

Car shifted into neutral on its own while accelerating up a freeway on ramp with a transmission error warning light on dash and could not get the vehicle to go back into gear until ignition was cycled a couple times. Obvious safety risk as any vehicle movement was impossible, and was not able to completely coast out of the traffic lane. There was no known symptom prior to this event and the vehicle is currently at the dealership for repair/warranty evaluation though they state "it is not showing any error codes on the diagnostics plug in", they did state that on test drive it "behaved perfectly until coming back to the dealership and acted up again. . . . Again showing a dash warning but no diagnostic code. ".

45 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

My Honda Passport had approx 10k miles and I was driving down a blind s curve less than 1 mile from my home on a clear dry day. The Passport lost power, and when the gas pedal was depressed there was a loud grinding sound but no engagement - it seemed like the transmission was grinding and disengaged, or that power was not being transmitted by the engine. I coasted down to safe spot at bottom of hill, and stopped vehicle, put it in park and turned it off. Then I started it again, transmission/power seemed to re-engage and I drove straight to dealership. They kept the car and told me they checked and found no codes. I asked about checking transmission fluid and they said they did but I don’t believe them. I called Honda corporate customer service and they told me they “couldn’t do anything until it happened to me again” and that I “needed to address problems and issues with my dealer. ” (it was dealer who told me to call corporate. ) since this time, I have received notice of fuel pump recall and that has been repaired. I wonder if the loss of power I experienced was fuel pump, or if it was related to transmission issue (same as odyssey) for the 9-speed transmission.

46 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

Had the optional transmission cooler installed at the Honda dealership to help increase vehicle towing capacity. After install, when the vehicle shifts from 7-8 gear at light throttle application (approx. 45mph) the transmission makes a grinding noise. Took vehicle back to dealership and they inspected. They contacted Honda tech support and they stated it is a known design defect. They will not address it in anyway even though there are many possibilities to address this. Noise is energy and energy has to dissipate. I am concerned the grinding noise will start to wear something out and cause a failure later in the life of the transmission or the cooler.

47 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 01/22/2021

The vehicle is supposed to automatically go into park if the driver stops the vehicle and exits the vehicle without taking it out of drive, reverse, or neutral. It's designed to do that on the push button transmissions used in this vehicle. The sensor that does this is activated by unbuckling the seat belt. If someone is using a seat belt extender and unbuckles the seat belt from the extender and leaves the extender plugged in this system is defeated. The vehicle can move forward or backwards creating a serious safety hazard. Thousands of people use these extenders due to weight issues, wearing bulky clothing, and various other reasons. The sensor shouldn't be in the seatbelt, it should be in a pressure switch in the seat measuring the absence of weight on the seat. The same type of sensor that activates the airbags.

48 Power Train problem of the 2021 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 01/22/2021

50 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

The radio displays an error message of network communication lost before the screen blacks out. This happens over and over every time I drive the vehicle. In addition, the screen for the odometer blacks out and I cannot see the traveling speed of my vehicle. I cannot use the federally mandated backup camera as well as the parking sensors. I cannot see the parking sensors. The vehicle also shows brake continually when driving as another car approaches from the opposite direction. There is no need to brake at these times. This occurs very frequently while driving. The last item is the transmission does not want to shift while traveling downhill about 50% of the time when I leave my house. The engine will just rev higher and higher over 4k revs. I cannot even drive the 25-mile speed limit when this occurs. I have confirmed that the transmission settings are in the standard drive mode during these events. I also informed them that the auto high beam feature does not work properly. When another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction many times it does not turn off and I blind the oncoming driver. I have brought this to the dealership twice and it has not been fixed.

51 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

Transmission kicks into neutral for no reason with "stop driving when safe. Transmission problem. See manual" error message. Rough transmission shifting.

52 Power Train problem of the 2000 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2000 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the check engine and transmission warning indicators were constantly illuminated. While driving various speeds and attempting to turn right or left, it required the contact to use extra effort to maneuver the vehicle. Additionally, there was smoke coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission, catalytic converter, and steering assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.

53 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

48 hours after I purchased my 2019 Honda pilot the transmission blew. I was driving on the highway on my way to a vacation with my car packed for the week and I heard a bang as if I hit something and then it sounded as if something was dragging on the bottom but nothing was there. I was extremely scared because I was stuck alone on the side of the highway because the transmission blew on my brand new car with less that 100 miles. My vehicle had to be towed away and they had to place a brand new engine. I was offered no compensation and they refused to give me a new vehicle.

54 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/26/2019

Vehicle with less than 1000 miles. Engine stalled during motion approx 70 mph. Forced to pull over and restart engine but was unable to put into drive but after a minute was successful in starting. Engine stalled two more times after and each time more errors were reported on the vehicle driver display. Errors involved emissions, transmission, engine, blind spot monitoring, and battery. Issue was rectified by Honda dealership but unknown whether or not permanent damage occurred. The dealership fix was to "drain atf fluid and brought to proper level". Their diagnoses was that "atf is overfilled. " vehicle has multiple fit/finish/build quality issues leading me to believe that the manufacturer is at fault for this problem and that other issues may be present but unknown. One notable safety issue with the build quality is that all four emergency handle bars are loose.

55 Power Train problem of the 2019 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Vehicle returned today for the third time. Same issues: will not come out of park, 10 warnings. Let vehicle run about 15 minutes, turn off, go inside for about 15 minutes, restart vehicle, 7 warnings and now can get into drive. One added issue: at the dealership when closing the door there is several beeps indication the key is still inside the vehicle. The keyfob is not in the vehicle or anywhere near!! vehicle stationary in garage at home.

58 Power Train problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 12/29/2010

Noticed that fuel gauge is not working properly because it went empty even though I have a tank full of gas. I did some internet research and found out that this is related to a defective 'fuel sending unit'. It affects Honda Passports and isuzu rodeo vehicles . My SUV Honda Passport fuel gauge is not working due to bad float chamber on the pump component has manufacturing defects. My fuel gauge has started fluctuating wildly. The most common thing though, is that it reads out of gas shortly after a fill up. This is the same model as an isuzu rodeo and the problems are duplicated there. I want to make sure a recall happens and that it covers the Hondas as well.

59 Power Train problem of the 1995 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

Honda suddenly accelerated causing an increase over the mph speed limit. Sometimes past problems of coming to a dead stop and locking the steering wheel. Multiple gauge problems intermittently.

60 Power Train problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

When the Passport was purchased in may of 2002, the fuel light intermittently blinked. The problem was diagnosed by Honda cars of concord (nc) as a "fuel sending unit. " estimated cost, including labor was $500. I decided to keep track of fuel by calculating the mileage because this "wasn't a warranty problem" because I bought it "pre-owned. " that problem was minor compared to what came next. I noticed the transmission acting funny by skipping and revving hard. When I took it in for the dealership to check the transmission fluid, (because you can't do this yourself), they informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced. I couldn't believe it. This vehicle has just under 47,000 miles ! after further investigation, I see where scores of others have the identical problem around the same amount of miles. No recall ??? since the car is now valued at less than the payoff because of the transmission problem (negative equity) I am forced to pay for a vehicle that has a short life left and very little mileage. Please help me ! thank you, shannon bradshaw.

61 Power Train problem of the 1998 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

Valve train premature wear. Requires an upper end rebuild at my expense. Making a loud click during acceleration. Told by dealership this is a common problem. But, dealership will not warranty an obviously manufacturer defect. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768006.

62 Power Train problem of the 1998 Honda Passport
