1 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the ignition briefly failed to turn. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

Apparently I did not place the car in park but was able to take the keys out of the ignition. Left the car and when I came back to the car, the car had rolled backward and crashed into bushes which stopped the car. This has happened to me twice. I now make sure I engage the parking brake to make sure the car does not roll.

3 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated the key was removed from the ignition with the vehicle being placed in the park position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the ignition needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, the failure mileage was 115,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. Rds.

4 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2011

Key can be removed from the ignition when the transmission isn't in park. The issue has caused the vehicles to roll away, but no one has yet been injured. The dealer is requesting $750 to fix the issue; however, I see Honda has already recalled over 1 million 2003-2005 accord, civic, and elements, but for some reason, they did not include the Pilots. This seems like too much of a coincidence and I see many other Pilot owners complaining about the same issue. I would like Honda to cover the same year Pilots.

5 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the key came out of the ignition while the vehicle was in drive. The contact was in a rush and turned the vehicle off, but the vehicle was in drive. The vehicle rolled back into another vehicle because of the failure. There were no injuries in the accident. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the ignition was replaced. The dealer stated there was one cylinder ignition and it was not under warranty. The contact stated this was the second time failure occurred. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 84,000 and 96,000. Rl.

6 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

Defective shift interlock allowed the ignition key to be removed while vehicle was parked and left in gear. The unoccupied vehicle rolled approximately twenty feet, coming to rest after contacting a parked vehicle (vehicle #2). Owner of vehicle #2 was loading bags into her trunk and was warned by a bystander to get out of the way- which prevented her from being hit by the rolling vehicle. No injuries were reported, and damage to the vehicles was negligible. Police were called and they responded. Information was exchanged between the vehicle operators. It should be noted that this defect was the subject of a recall for other Honda vehicles (accord, civic, others) in late 2010.

7 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that he could remove the key from the ignition without the vehicle being in park. Updated 05/04/11 updated 05/12/11.

8 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that after the vehicle was parked and she returned to the vehicle the vehicle had drifted away from the parking space she was in. The vehicle rolled backwards and crashed into two other vehicles. The contact stated that the gear shifted into reverse on its own. The contact referenced NHTSA recall NHTSA campaign id number: 10v364000 electrical system, ignition but Honda informed him that the 2004 Pilot was not included in the recall even though it was experiencing the exact same failure. The current and failure mileages were 110,500. Updated 12/09/10 updated 12/17/jb.
