1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2021

The Honda Pilots engine mounts are constantly having to be replaced prematurely than any other vehicle I have ever owned. This is an extremely dangerous part failure and an expensive cost to have. This dealership explained this is a known issue with these Hondas, yet no help or solutions from the manufacturer. There has to be some form of help or accountability for this type of negligence.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

My children bought this vehicle for me because I lost my job due to covid aftereffects and I had to return my kia soul 2014 to the creditors. I was delivering food boxes to the elderly when the at temp light came on and the transmission started to lockup I had to pullover because the car was running hot. It was very frightening so I couldn't get home. I have never had that happen to me. Goggleing this Honda brand there has been several complaints about this model but no Honda recall this car is dangerous! and should be either recalled or taken off the market as nto to never be ever resold.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

Unfortunately, our each vehicle has been targeted and caused car accident from 2010 to present day. In 2012, our Mazda mpv 2006 engine was destroyed or replaced at the work place during working at hilton hotel. Our accura mdx 2002 VIN # 2hnyd18612h509321 and current Honda Pilot 2005 VIN # 5fnyf18645b010202 were under controlled and involved car accident in 2017 and 2018 because of targeting. I have noticed and reported to local police and insurance behalf of this cases which can stop suddenly or slowly. Its depend on how they controlled and pre-arranged accident to be happened on a pointing time. Surely, many life and vehicles are very dangerous. We desperately need safety cars and people in our community in order to avoid crushing cars and people from now and future. Please help.

Car was hard shifting until I get home. Pulled up driveway, could not get into "park". Very hard shifting between other gears, unable to put into "I" or first gear at all. Had to put in neutral on flat surface because car would roll even with emegency brake on. Had to unhook battery cable to save on juice. Had the car for 5 years , problems.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

I took my vehicle to the dealer today to get the current recalls taken care of and also told them to check the motor mounts. I've read quite a few complaints about the motor mounts failing around 55,000 miles and abrupt/harsh shifting in the transmission is a good indicator of the defect. Dealer just notified me that 2 motor mounts need to be replaced (front and side mounts). They replaced them but at my expense, unfortunately. Not sure when the motor mounts expired since I owned the vehicle, I'm the second owner. The current mileage on my Pilot is 159,000 so I entered 159,000 miles for the vehicle incident. But the 3 years I've owned it, I have always noticed an abrupt or harsh shift from park to drive/reverse. I feel with a lot of Honda Pilot owners complaining about this defect, there should be a recall. Thank you, rich kim ps, here's a couple of forums/blogs about this issue. . Read more...

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

Car shudders occasionally around speeds 30 while accelerating, the shudder lasts few seconds and stops. This could happen only once or several times if you continue to drive around speeds 30 mph. From Honda forums it looks like a common problem with same year Honda Pilots and accura rdx. Driving with such an condition shakes the driver for an unknown vehicular behaviour that may cause an accident/ fatality. It is suggested Honda corp may be asked to put a recall for all vehicles in this manuafcture year.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

On October 4, 2014 while my son was driving the accelerator became stuck luckily he was driving and we were traveling 30 miles per hour. The car was shifted to neutral and stopped. Yesterday, after cutting the car off and removing the key the engine was sill running. The key was reinserted and removed. Today on 10/102014 once again, I pulled in the garage tried to turn off the car and remove the key but the engine was still running with the key removed. I reinserted the key as I did the day before, as I removed the key the car accelerated became stuck again, fortunately the car was in park. I did not step on the gas or accelerate since I was merely reinserting and removing the key. In any event the car pedal was stuck. I am concerned and hope this does not happen again so I am reporting for my safety.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

Takata recall.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Vehicle diagnosed at dealer service center as having 2 cracked / broken engine mounts. Affected mounts are right (passenger) side and front mount. Based on similar anecdotal reports on internet forums (piloteers. Org and others) this appears to be a fairly common occurrence on Honda Pilots and odysseys of this vintage. They share the same chassis. It also appears the right and front mounts are most likely to be affected.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for a stability control repair, the dealer advised him that the engine motor mount also needed to be replaced. The dealer did not specify if the motor mount was fractured or worn. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 115,000.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

1 front motor mounts had to be replaced.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2012

I took it in for a recall. I was told that the front and right engine mounts are "cracked". At about 25-45 mph there is a noticeable shudder under the hood. In searching the NHTSA database I find many other reports of this shudder and several saying that engine mounts are a problem in this model. The reports are in several areas including engine, suspension, drive train, transmission. It seems the engine mounts could be a common denominator. If the mounts go it could cause a catastrophic failure including loss of control.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

I saw on the news that the NHTSA was investigating a brake issue on the Honda Pilot 2005. I experienced a similar issue but thought it was a glitch as it only happened one day (although it happened twice that day). I've finally gotten around to filing an official report both with Honda and NHTSA to hopefully aid in the investigation. The braking issue happened on two separate occasions on the same day, roughly 2 months ago. The first incident happened on the freeway. I was going the speed limit when all of a sudden I felt like the car completely lost power. The lights on the dashboard flashed, my speed decreased suddenly although I still had my foot on the gas. It only last a few seconds and then I regained control of the vehicle. An hour later, when I was off the freeway, it happened again, but this time I was going 25 miles an hour driving on city streets. Same exact issue where it felt like the car computer shut down with no power for a few seconds. It hasn't happened since, but I'm very scared that it may happen at any time again. We only have one car and have a 1 year old. I hope Honda and the NHTSA make progress into identifying the issue. Please let me know if I can contribute any more information. 16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

I own a 2005 Honda Pilot. I have had an issue that is increasingly getting worse- when driving 30-45 mph, the engine/transmission starts to shudder. If I let off the accelerator it will let up. It is scary, the whole vehicle jolts repeatedly. If the engine is jolting so dramatically, I can only imagine that the stabilization of the engine is being put in jeopardy. In doing some research, I have found that I am one of hundreds, if not thousands of people with the same problem and complaint. I feel that this is the manufacturer's defect that should be addressed and resolved by Honda promptly. The concern is not only for the vehicle itself, but mostly for the lives that these vehicles carry. Please give attention to our complaint before a serious accident occurs. We have paid for a safe and reliable car, so please give us one. Thank you for your attention and consideration, please help NHTSA!.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

At 30-40 mph the Pilot shudders significantly and does so for about . 5-3 seconds. There is apparently a design or other flaw in the torque converter (which will ultimately lead to a failed transmission). Despite what appears to be hundreds or thousands of the same complaints nationwide, Honda will apparently not not address the issue. The driving dangers are obvious, and consumers are left with repair bills of $3,000. 00 - $5000. 00. Please do something about this NHTSA.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

My Pilot has a very bad shake in the steering wheel whenever I reach speeds of 70mph. I've had three wheel balances (one road force balance), two alignments, rotors and brakes checked with no issues with those items. I've had to of the motor mounts replaced on the vehicle since I purchased it which I never had to do on any other vehicles I've ever owned. I told the Honda dealer that I think Honda corporation should do a recall on the motor mounts because all Pilot owners are complaining about the same issues. I still have the shaking in the steering wheel and I'm afraid that I might have to replace the third motor mount to resolve the shaking in the steering wheel. This is another expense that I can't afford but it doesn't seem Honda cares about their customers so I guess we have no other options since it seems we (Honda owners) can't get through to Honda corporation to help us!.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

The accident occurred with my Honda Pilot ex 2005 at 01:00 am on 08/25/2011. I traveled from houston to dallas, texas, the sparkplug number 5 blew off during driving at 65 mph ( 99 miles from dallas ). My Honda Pilot was repaired at mckinney Honda dealer 601 s central expressway, mckinney, TX 75070 ( tel 1-972-569-4281 ) on next day. Total cost was $3,325. 14. The sparkplug ( that blew off ) was oringinal from Honda and all sparkplugs were never been replaced before the accident. My Honda Pilot only has 94,500 miles. I thought that this problem was a manufacture defect. I sent this problem to Honda customer service but they ignored my report.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

I had complained about a shuttering noise when traveling low speeds of between 30-40 mph. No else heard this but me. Had another problem with a window switch (which was covered under warranty) asked the Honda mechanic if he hears a noise in the engine. He said he heard nothing. Kept driving my vehicle and now the noise is louder and took it back to the dealer and they said its the torque converter and now the warranty has expired. After some research online, other Honda Pilot owners have had this problem and had to get a new transmission due to Honda installation of a bad or faulty torque converter. So now I am forced to dig deep into my pockets to fix this transmission. Since finding so many others who have or are experiencing this same problem, I think this issue should be investigated. Thank you.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

While driving on city road I heard a loud bang and smoke appeared under the vehicle. The vehicle then started running very rough so I pulled off the side of the road. I got out of vehicle and found a coil laying on the ground along with some other plastic pieces. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic. My mechanic examined the vehicle and found that a spark plug had blown completely out of the engine block head along with the blown coil that I had picked up. The spark plug was never recovered even though I returned to the scene of the incident.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

My husband and I notice a shudder when you reach a speed of 35-40 mph. We in turn took it into Honda to have it checked several times and to test drive, I even drove the Honda while the service man was in the car and it would not shudder. It is still having the shudder problems, I am taking it in for the 4th time for service and oil change and maybe the service department can tell me what is wrong and why it shudders. From research we have found out that we are not the only Honda Pilot owners with this same problem. . Read more...

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2010

2005 Honda Pilot ex with navigation, 81k miles approx. Problem: - no 2 spark plug and thread (coil) blew out during in-town driving, the cylinder head was damaged causing extensive re-condition expense. - all spark plugs are believed to be the originals, we have no re-collection that any spark plug has been replaced since we have not reached the manufacturer's recommended tune up schedule of 105k miles. Service history we bought the car new in CA back in Dec 2004. We followed all recommended maintenance schedules by Honda. All services, except a recent oil change, were done by Honda dealerships across the countries. The recent oil change was done by a local garage, and no work has been performed on the spark plugs as confirmed by the garage owner. Communications with Honda - based on my discussion with Honda America on Nov 19. 2010, they were willing to open a case in order to track the complaint. However, they will not investigate the matter further since my car is out of warranty. Investigation: we believe there may be a latent defect on certain spark plug (or on the engine itself) in certain Honda Pilot. Based on my research, a similar failure happened in ann arbor, mi, in March 2010 to a 2004 Honda Pilot. In that case, that car had 58k miles on it and the no. 5 spark plug came out causing similar damages to the engine. I have no evidence if the ann arbor incident has the original spark plug or not. However, it is just one case too many for a manufacturer with a very good reliability reputation. Like the owner in ann arbor, we are so lucky that we were not involved in a major accident when the failure happened. Hope the authority will investigate this matter further and urge Honda to resolve the problem before someone get hurt.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20-35 mph, the vehicle would sway from left to right. The contact had to struggle with the steering wheel in order to keep it from swaying. The failure occurred everyday since September 2010. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the yaw rate sensor failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000 and current mileage was approximately 122,000.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

I started noticing a vibration at 34 to 45 mph. It was definitely caused by a malfunction under the hood. It causes my 2005 Honda Pilot to vibrate, shudder and hesitate at that speed. I have to take my foot off of the accelerator pedal before it will stop. It happens continuously at that speed.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2009

The "d" flashes while driving, indicating something is wrong, but Honda can not find the problem. This has happen a few times, highway driving. This does not occur all the time.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2009

2005 Honda Pilot heater temperature control motor assembly blows hot air out of vents. No matter if you adjust temperature or put on air conditioner the cold air doesn't come threw vents instead hot air is blowing threw. I had car check at shop and they say the temperature mix motor stays in hot position.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2007

Since I bought my 2005 Honda Pilot on 06/25/2007. Every time I would drive between 65 and 70 mph my steering wheel would shake. I took my Pilot in today for inspection(06/06/2009)and here they tell me my motor mount engine needs repaired. Prior to this I had called them on several occasions and told them that my steering wheel shakes when I drive close to 65-70mph. I was told several times that it is just my alignment "easy fix". Last year for inspection I needed tires got tires, alignment checked asked service people again if the shaking was fixed I was reassured it was to only find out it was not. Now today a year later this happens and to find out it is happening to alot of other 2005 Honda Pilots motor mount is going out. I'm outraged. I owned several Hondas through-out my life and never once had this problem with any of them. I use to own a civic and an accord. Hondas are great vehicles until now. I believe Honda should recall this. And this will be the last Honda I own.
