Five problems related to brake disc pads have been reported for the 2011 Honda Pilot. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2011 Honda Pilot based on all problems reported for the 2011 Pilot.
Purchased a 2011 certified used Honda Pilot in June 2013, 20,200 miles, after reading reviews stating the reliability. Within a couple of months, notices a vibration when braking. Honda service station said the rotors are warped and recommended resurfacing and new brake pads, but that the warranty wouldn't cover the cost. Called Honda and they verified the problem wasn't covered by warranty - normal wear and tear. Shortly after, the vehicle began pulling with every bump in the road. In addition, the transmission began slipping, jerking, and jumping into higher gear when coasting to a stop. Took the vehicle back to the Honda service station and was told that in addition to the rotor issue, the tires were unevenly worn and should be replaced (24,000 miles). They recommended having an alignment. Was also told there is nothing wrong with the transmission, which clearly isn't the case. Took the vehicle to a local service station for alignment, tire rotation, and balance and was told the alignment and balance were only slightly off and having them done didn't correct the problem. They also stated the rotors should be covered by warranty because there was no reason for them to warped at such a low mileage. Between the transmission and suspension problems the vehicle feels unsafe to drive. I'm very uncomfortable driving it even on a short highway trip. A very expensive, unreliable vehicle.
2011 Honda Pilot experiencing a severe vibration issues when applying the brakes when traveling at highway speeds (45mph+). The vehicle stability, steering and control do not feel safe under these conditions. We first identified the problem with Honda at 39000 miles in 2012 and they balanced the tires. Brought to Honda's attention again at 69000 miles in augst 2013. They replaced the front and rear brake pads and resurfaced front and rear the rotors for a charge of $478. Still experiencing at 80000 miles and they said we need new front rotors ($440) and need to replace compliance arm bushings (found compliance bushings split and torn) for $736. 95. Please investigate as a serious defective issue that perhaps warrants a recall.
When applying the brakes at any speed over 50 mpg, the steering wheel shakes like an earthquake. Dealer said brakes were fine and that there was no issue. Next trip the dealer said the brakes might need to be redone (22k miles really?) and that the rotors were warped. Repairs would not be covered under warranty or extended warranty. This is obviously a defect and needs to be handled by Honda. Now approaching 40k miles and the probelm is making me nuts. I'm going to wind up paying out of pocket for their poor design. I just hope the new rotors & pads on the front end will make it go away.
A few weeks ago, I being to notice the steering wheel vibrates and wobbles upon applying the brake at 60+ mph on our new Honda Pilot we purchased a little over a year. Concern for my safety and my family, I took the vehicle back to the dealer and they mentioned the forward rotors needed to be machined and was not covered by factor warranty and would cause $220 to do the job. I spoke with the service manager and dealer manager and they both would not offer to honor there 3 years or 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty to fix the issue. I decided to google for Honda Pilot 2011 owners with similar issues and sure enough I was not alone on this issue, just reviewing only two forums I saw over 50 replies on similar issues as to mine for new Honda Pilots. I strongly believe there is a possible defect in the material used for the brake pads or rotors on these Pilots to be experiencing rotor issues with less than 20,000 miles to be . Please, I would like for further investigating and inquiries into this matter be taken for the sake of all our safety. Thank you in advance.
The vehicle steering vibrates vilonently when braking during 50+ mph. Dealer found the rear rotors to be warped and replace them along with brake pads, the problem remains and gets progressively worse. Additionally, the braking response is extremely sluggish and requires extreme distance and pressure to stop the vehicle. This coupled with the vibration or the premature warped rotors and warn brakes are a combination for tragedy. Several Pilot owners are experiencing this very same issue and Honda should be able to correct by replacing the parts with adequate rotors that can support and safely stop the system when braking without feeling like the SUV is going to become discombobulated on the road. I wouldn't be surprise if this problem was one of the factors that cause the tragic accident in the bronx earlier this year. The vibration and lack of stoping power is a catalyst for disaster. I am so concern about the situation that I drive the car with extreme caution in the highway because I'm afraid of getting to an accident, I can't wait to get out of my lease because I don't trust the vehicle. It's a real misfortune because overall its a great vehicle with the exception of the severe problem.
