23 problems related to adaptive cruise control have been reported for the 2020 Honda Pilot. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2020 Honda Pilot based on all problems reported for the 2020 Pilot.
These systems have stopped working due to a faulty lkas camera that is mounted at the windshield.
My rear view camera went out and it is a $2,000 fix. Can this please be a recall? I know many others this has happened to as well.
Almost every day since new the vehicle will alarm 'brake' on dash while driving on 2 lane back roads that have some slight curves (these are all around our house). At least once a month the car will automatically apply the brakes while coming around a curve or over a blind hill. Both of these scenarios occur 50/50 when there is oncoming traffic or no oncoming traffic. It can happen with someone ahead of me in the same lane, but not as often. In all cases throughout the years there has not be a need for braking. In one instance a few years ago we were driving on a divided 4 lane state highway. Cruise control was on and acc was on. We moved into the left lane to pass a car. When we came within ~20' of the car, the Pilot engaged in automatic braking hard as it detected the car we were attempting to pass as an obstacle in front of us. There was never any danger of hitting the other car. However, a car following us almost rear-ended our car due to the unforseen/not needed hard braking. My wife will no longer use cruise control in this vehicle since this happened. The dash 'brake' warning is easy to replicate if you drive for a while on the roads near my house. The auto braking is not able to reproduced on demand. Now the car is complaining to see the dealer about a cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) error. I'll have to troubleshoot this (or maybe just turn it off), but the entire system has been sub par and accident prone since original purchase new in 2019.
Lkas, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, forward collision, auto breaking warning lights all came on and failed. Lots of other Honda Pilots of this vintage are experiencing this issue according to Honda forums.
January 2026 multiple dashboard warning lights stating acc problem, lkas problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, and auto high-beam problem. 3/18/26 took vehicle into local Honda dealership where they ran diagnostics with the results showing the "multi purpose camera unit internal failure. " they checked wiring and connector which were ok so dealership is recommending replacement of camera and recalibration.
On or about January 7, 2026, we were driving through town and the dash cluster lit up with five separate warnings for safety features no longer operational. These are adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, and automatic high beams. We cleaned the windshield and radar housing. Then the battery was replaced. None corrected the problem. An appointment was then scheduled at the dealership for 1/9/2026. It was determined the multi-purpose camera had an internal short. The only fix is a new camera ($1284) and re-aim process. The total repair cost, not including the $165 diagnostic fee, is $1727. In the meantime, the driver safety features are mostly unavailable, including the traditional cruise control. I say mostly because the system randomly works for a few minutes before overheating/shorting. I worry about fire and sudden emergency braking due to the short. I must note this system has never functioned well. In particular, the camera and/or radar “sees” problems that don’t exist and unnecessarily and repeatedly activates the warning notifications, especially on two-lane highways. I may still have video of a trip where there were dozens of warning notifications within just a few miles for cars in their own lane. The collision mitigation system has been off for nearly all our ownership as it nearly caused a major accident on our second day. As I was accelerating up to highway speed to merge onto the highway I activated my turn signal. A truck in the driving lane was slowing to let me in, however, the system saw traffic in the vicinity and activated numerous warnings on the dash while simultaneously activating the brakes and steering me towards the ditch. The car behind me had to panic brake to avoid hitting me. I had limited driver input during this period but was able to get stopped on the shoulder of the highway. I liken the Honda sensing system to a 16 year old driver who is prone to panic.
Issue with the forward collision sensor, lane keep departure, and adaptive speed control. It has a mind of its own if it works or not. Some times it working then while drive the warnings and dings start going off while driving. There isn't a way to use cruise control if there is an issue with the system.
The lkas camera stopped working and it won’t allow any of the connected systems to operate including acc, emergency brake assist, cruise control, etc.
No incident. Turned my car on and the acc, lkas, collision mitigation and brake system lights all are amber.
All the associated warnings are on dash, diagnosed at local Honda dealership with code u 3006-16. Advised multi camera failure and requested $1600 to repair. Immediate after I am now getting a transmission warning problem on dash.
1. )transmission!! problems such as transmission fluid overheating, rpm's boggle up & down while on flat roads at steady speeds, cruise control wont stay activated, shaking or vibration while stopped and while driving. 2. ) mine and my kids safety is at risk when we have to pull over to let the transmission cool and are on a busy interstate. It also risks us breaking down while we are traveling long distance and being stranded in the middle of nowhere. 3. ) I had my vehicle worked on at a Honda dealer in the past 2 months for the shaking, but they did not resolve the shaking or cruise control issue. 4. ) March 30th was the first time the transmission fluid to hot warning has come up. The other symptoms listed above started in December of 24. My vehicle isnt listed as a recall but everey symptom it list I have.
Turned car on one day and warning lights on dash. Acc problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation problem, lkas, auto high beam, cmbs problem. Prior there were no issues took car to dealership and they determined its the forward looking camera u3000-49, see uploaded file. The front camera has failed without incident, windshield isn't damaged, windshield has not been replaced. When it malfunctions and myself or family are relying on this feature it becomes a safety issue.
Lane assist camera failure (part #36160-tg7-a63) vehicle information: make/model/year: 2020 Honda Pilot ex-l failed component: lane assist camera, part #36160-tg7-a63 safety issue description: the lane assist camera has failed, disabling multiple critical safety systems, including: adaptive cruise control lane keeping assist collision mitigation braking system road departure mitigation auto high-beam system concern: this camera component is not subject to normal wear and tear, being housed within the vehicle's protected interior near the rearview mirror. The failure of this part represents a potential manufacturing defect that compromises essential safety features designed to prevent accidents and save lives. The simultaneous loss of multiple Honda sensing safety systems creates a significant safety hazard, particularly given that drivers rely on these systems for collision avoidance and lane departure prevention. This premature failure suggests a systemic defect that may affect other 2020 Honda Pilot vehicles. Request: I request that NHTSA investigate this matter for potential safety defects and consider whether a recall is warranted for affected Honda Pilot vehicles with this camera component.
2020 Honda Pilot touring was purchased in CT at Honda of stamford, may of 2023. I started having issues in July pertaining to extreme dust coming into the cabin causing my children and myself asthma conditions to worsen. I took the car to the dealer and they blew out something connected with the system. I than started having issues with the radio system and large popping sounds coming from it. The dealer didn't check this for me. The car also brakes on it's own while driving without warning and nothing is in front of me. The dealer didn't check this. On [xxx] the dashboard lite up with a lot of error messages and the car brake light was on. The car would only go 20mph on the highway. The car was stuck in greenwich, CT at my son school for 2 days until I got it towed to the dealer. On feb24th the car was towed to the dealer. I was told the brake switch went out and needed replacement. I was charged 200. 00. I picked the car up on feb25th @1pm and the dealer claimed the repair was done. On [xxx]. I was traveling on the highway in norwalk, CT and the dashboard lite up with the same errors and he brakes did the same thing and the car was hard to steering. I took it back to the dealer and was told 3 other things was wrong with the car. Code-c0040-62 brake lamp switch failure stuck. U3000-49 multi purpose camerawave radar internal electronic failure. B2a60-97. Tech reset camera and the system still gave failure codes. The dealer confirmed the issues, but refused to give me a replacement. I had a dmv investigation and the out was to refund me for the conveyance fee the dealer lied about on the contract. I was also refunded for VIN etching the dealer lied about on the contract and refunded for Honda care. I was in the car with my children when the brake issue happened both times and it was scary. The car was never inspected before it was sold to me. I also never received several documents from the dealership required by CT state law. I left the car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),.
The adas camera had an internal failure, rendering all of the driver assistance features inoperable. The camera was the one that came from the car new. The old camera is available for inspection. The problem was observed by an independent repair shop. There were several warnings about the problem before the camera failure in the months before.
Monocular camera electronic failure.
Upon startup I frequently get the following warnings: -collision mitigation system problem -road departure mitigation system problem -adaptive cruise control problem -lane keeping assist problem -braking system error all mechanical systems work fine but cruise control and all of the “Smart” safety features don’t work. A simple google search will show hundreds of owners experiencing the same problem with this generation as well as odysseys that likely use the same system. Dealers want $1700-$2000 to replace the forward facing camera. However, this is clearly a defective part from Honda and they need to recall and fix it.
Drive car normal . Park car went in building to work. After work start cart and on highway going home all lights came on on dashboard. Mechanic said front camera is burnt due to excessive heat.
Collision mitigation system proble.
While driving the vehicle, all the aforementioned systems came on the cars dashboard stating that all of them have been turned off, and now there is a brake system issue with the vehicle. The car has 35000 miles and has not been in any accident or collision. Currently there is no warranty on the vehicle, but given that this is something that is impacting the safety of properly operating the vehicle and it’s safety equipment is not being made accessible to leverage is a major concern for a possible accident.
Car was park after I drop off wife to work after 30 minutes when back to the car started the engine and several warnings lights showed up in my dash check battery and alternator they are working fine. Replace battery and still have the problem . When to dealership and they told me camera in my windshield is bad. Checking in the forums I found out that several owner of Honda the have this issue with their vehicles . Can you guy’s please check into this matter. It will be appreciated no just me but a lot more owners like me thanks . Raul vazquez.
Pilot was parked and when I went to get in it to leave, I noticed the rear window looked weird. Walked around back and the back glass had just exploded. Glass was bulging with a large missing piece. It was cracked all the way thru and on the passenger side was a big piece missing where a rear defroster module would be located. The glass was still creaking when I realized this happened. It was not caused by something hitting it as there was not glass in the inside. I think it was caused by the rear defrost which was not on at the time. Glad it did not happen when I was driving. Just happened, but if I know Honda, they will not stand behind their vehicles. "not our fault".
Since I bought the car in 2019, movie cd does not work all the time. Fixed once. Automatic emergency breaking. It does not stop. Have taken it to the dealership at least 4 times and they say they are not able to replicate the problem. Set the cruise speed control and it does not work. Currently not working for over a month. The engine transmission does not stop the car and if it does work the car does not stop totally and car jumps 2-3 feet while foot is on brake. Dealership say they can not duplicate the problem.
