Check engine light turned on one day and the vehicle started running rough. Immediately noticed an impact on being able to drive safely and could not operate the vehicle any further. I took the vehicle to a repair shop and they stated the piston rings need to be replaced and I am getting a cylinder #3 misfire. They also stated that my dealership should be able to fix this for free as it should be covered under a recall. I have already brought this vehicle in for a cylinder #3 misfire and cost me a fortune to fix. After researching I found that only models 2009-2013 were covered under this recall. Looking at the other nhsta complaints with people having the same exact issue it is clear that this issue has not been resolved and is yet stll happening in models 2014. Please extend this coverage to the year 2014.

Blinking check engine light, van-4 and vsa light are all on. I went to get a code and it was a misfire. This happened the past summer and I got it replaced. Happened again a few weeks later and they fixed it. Every since then it happens from time to time. I looked this up on the internet and it said Honda was fixing the issue free of charge 2017 and earlier. I didn't purchase my vehicle until October of 2017. And was told none of this.

My check engine light came on and my mechanic informed me that cylinder 2 was misfiring. Mechanic mentioned that this was a problem with this style of Pilot and he recommended taking it to a Honda dealer. There was a warranty extension for 2009-2013 Pilots to cover this problem so I don't understand why this extension wouldn't cover 2015 Pilots since they are the same generation vehicle. I reached out via phone and email to at leat 4 Honda indivduals and never heard back. Sounds like they dont want to call or email back since they know this is a problem. Local Honda representative said Honda would cover 70% but they should really cover 100% since its a know problem with this generation of vehicle.

My wife has reported on several occasions that when the idle-stop feature is turned on and the vehicle has come to a stop, the engine cuts as intended but will not restart when pressure is released from the brake. Numerous lights within the instrument panel, with the exception of the check engine light, illuminate, the transmission shifts itself into neutral. The vehicle says to shift into "park", press and hold the brake and restart the vehicle using the start/stop button. I have tried to duplicate this while driving the vehicle. Yesterday, this same occurrence happened to me only I was not able to readily restart the vehicle. This latest occurrence happened in heavy traffic at a busy intersection. My wife reports having had this occur at least six to seven times, once while in traffic on the freeway. I have brought the vehicle to Honda in the past because of the vehicle jjuttering at low speeds and because of this issue. Each time I was told that because no error code was found and the issue could not be duplicated, there was nothing they could do. This issue is a potential disaster waiting to happen.

Check engine light for emissions system problem. Code p219a came up. They ended up having to replaced the fuel injectors at 25,400 miles. Our warranty is up in March. I called Honda to see if they would still fix the issue after the warranty is up. They advised that any issues would be an out of pocket expense. They are aware it is a known issue with 2016-2018 Pilots.
Check fuel cap message comes on sometimes even after I tighten the fuel cap. Sometimes the message stops on its own. Don't know why. Check engine light comes on sometimes and goes off on its own. Don't know why. I noticed these alerts when the car is moving or sitting at an idle. City driving with very little highway driving. I checked Honda website today for a list of recalls on my VIN, but the website said that there were not open recalls on my vehicle. I wonder about the airbags in the vehicle.

Check engine light is illuminated along with awd, keyless start system, emissions system, uphill start, trailer assistance, etc. Have had two engine coils replaced and a software upgrade. The lights go off for a couple of days and then return. Have spent $250 in diagnostics and nothing is fixed. Replaced batteries in both key fobs. I was told by dealership to replace the start/stop button for $375. Dealership also recommended replacing fuel injectors for $1600. No guarantee that this will fix any of the issues.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle started jerking and hesitating with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact called roush Honda (100 w. Schrock rd, westerville, OH 43081, (614) 882-1535) and made the dealer aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 12v063000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was unknown.

The car has engine check light and traction lights are on. Mechanic diagnosed the codes to match a recall which my VIN is excluded even thought I am facing the same exact issue. Piston misfiring and the engine can lock at any time causing an accident. Codes give to me by mechanic that said that Honda should address this issue: dtc - p0301 and p0304. Bulletin -13-082. Dtc 83-11 and dtc - 83-12. Dealership never mentioned this to me I had to go to independent mechanic. Info: https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2013/sb-10053786-6271. Pdf summary: "the piston rings on certain cylinders may rotate and align which can lead to spark plug fouling. This can set dtcs p0301 through p0304 and cause the mil to come on" this issue came up two times. First the dealership asked me to service all car parts which I did to get the engine light fixed - cost me $1000. Then the second time the check engine light came on they told me they cleaned the pistons and I should be good. The third time I brought the car back to them all in about three weeks, they said OH. . . You need $3k to do this procedure which Honda recommends and then I lost it. I realized I was being played and I took it to independent mechanic which brought this to my attention. I have been trying to contact american Honda over the phone and they do not answer any calls. The number rings 3 times then plays some music and then ends the call. I also sent them an email which caused mr mario representing american Honda, to call me. I missed his call and I called him back multiple times but he is never in the office. Case reference: # 11373382.
I was informed that the way the engine was built, when the vehicle goes into eco-mode 2 cylinders shut off. In the 2011 models, the same 2 shut off every time, this causes the other cylinders to wear prematurely. Engines are now built to randomly shut off 2 cylinders. I'm very curious to know why a recall was not issued l. Seems like a very poor business practice on Honda's part. I got this vehicle because I am expecting and needed a bigger vehicle but it is definitely not looking like I would ever recommend a Honda to anyone at this point based on the fact I bought the vehicle December 19th and was only able to drive it for a month. I've been without a vehicle for over a month and am not sure when I will get the vehicle back. It's completely unacceptable. I got in my vehicle to take kids to school and my check engine light was flashing. Instead of taking the kids to school I took the car to the dealership, in the meantime every light on the dash came on. Once we got to the Honda dealership where they had the tools to fix whatever was potentially wrong, we were informed of the issue with the cylinders. I am looking into the lemon laws in georgia. It is insane that the warranty will only cover an engine with the same problem, only less miles for 2400. So in order to get an engine that I feel safe with my children in the car, I have to come out of pocket another 3000. I will also have to replace the catalytic converters as a result of the wear on the engine from Honda's faulty design.

3rd time in 12 months that the check engine light begins flashing and the car begins to lose acceleration power and vibrates excessively. Recent issue happened while driving off of the freeway and at a stop light. The previous 2 occurrences it is determined to be an engine misfire. The last time oil spotted in spark plug indicating that the piston ring is faulty.
We bought a 2016 Honda Pilot ex awd from a dealer a month ago with 62k miles on it. Three days ago an emission system problem and check engine light came on. We took it to the Honda dealer immediately and the codes were p0430 and p219b. They diagnosed that one of the cylinders was running rich and misfiring. All 6 fuel injectors and a flex pipe needed to be changed. The estimated cost was $1700. I called Honda America thinking this is happening too early to a 3 year old car with relatively few miles on it. My other 2011 Honda is at 145k and never needed fuel injector replacement. I researched it online and found that this is a common problem among 2016 Pilots and there is a service bulletin for it 18-025. Honda America said there is no recall on it and that the 3 year 36k warranty is over. I am aware of those, but a 3 year old Honda should not need this replacement. They are researching if they should assist with the cost of the repair, and will get back to me in a few days. However, I would urge others with similar problems make a complaint here and pressure for a recall. If this problem continues and the car goes to limb mode in the middle of driving, it could lead to an accident. It would also not be safe being stuck next to a highway with a car not working. I am glad in my case it was noticed early on when the light came on. This is also an expensive repair early on in a car and should be fully covered by Honda.
Check engine light indicates an emissions problem at 52000 miles. Dealership recommends fuel injector replacement although vehicle has been properly serviced at every milestone. Many other 2016-1019 Pilot owners complaining about the same issue.
I purchased a new 2019 Honda Pilot ex-l in December, 2018. I was recently exiting an off ramp from an interstate and when I pressed the accelerator to merge into traffic the vehicle hesitated significantly and the check engine light started flashing. I then continued a few miles which I had remaining to my house and the vehicle would accelerate very poorly and the engine would shake under acceleration. The manual states that a flashing light is an engine misfire. I started the vehicle on Monday morning to take it to the local Honda dealer and it drove normally down to the dealer. After checking the engine computer they could find no fault codes for the check engine light flashing the day before. They gave me back the vehicle and said there was nothing they could do at this time. I feel that this is a very serious problem and it appears that a few other complaints have been filed for this same issue. Having a vehicle that loses a significant amount of power can be a serious safety issue and I highly suggest that Honda look into this matter carefully. This should not happen to a brand new vehicle with 2,200 miles or any vehicle for that matter.
My 2006 Honda Pilot started to show the p0301 error code and had the check engine light and vtm-4 caution light come on suddenly. Both lights came on when I pulled out of my driveway on a Monday morning. The day before I had driven my car about 20 miles on an interstate highway and about 2 miles on city roads. The lights were not on at that time nor were any obstacles hit, such as potholes, and no change in the driving characteristics of the car were experienced. I took the car to a local repair shop which diagnosed the problem as a misfire in the number one cylinder caused by faulty valves. I have since taken it to a shop which reconditions and repairs engines as a specialty. They found the same problem and also found that the intake snorkel was split in two. Looking online it appears there was a recall for 2009 to 2012 Honda Pilots which experienced similar failures which Honda USA settled. I am concerned a similar fault happened in my 2006 Honda Pilot and would like the NHTSA to investigate based on Honda's settlement.

Wife had to pull over on her way back from dropping my daughter off at dance due to check engine light coming on and front of car shaking noticeably. Car was not driveable due to safety and concern of further damaging engine and had to be towed to mechanic, who diagnosed the issue and recommended the car be taken to dealer as it's a known issue under service bulletin 13-082. Dealer replaced piston rings and spark plugs 1-4 at no charge. However, I had to pay for tow and initial diagnosis from my non-Honda dealer mechanic. Suffice to say we're not happy this is happening as we're still paying the car off and would not have bought out the lease last year had we known of this issue, which was known by Honda before we bought out the lease.
We were told by several service technicians at the wolfchase Honda in bartlett, TN that there was a recall on all 2010 Honda Pilots, (ours is a touring fwd), due to a miss-firing issue. We purchased our Pilot 9/2015 and repeatedly reported that the car was miss-firing, which caused the check engine light to appear. When we took it in for oil changes, the techs would tell us to do a gas treatment, such as lucas (they did it once themselves), or to change the air and cabin filters. We did that, and the problem persisted. Upon each oil change, the dealership would just reset the check engine light and tell us nothing else was wrong. We have since checked for complaints on the web, and saw that numerous consumers have the same issue & a law suit settlement . We have contacted american Honda, and now that the recall is out of their timeframe for repairs, (ended 10/2017) they refuse to do anything about it. We have complained about the problem even before the recall period ended, but all they did was a "quick fix" of changing the spark plugs to "appear" to correct the issue. There have been unexpected "surges" of the engine while in motion on a city street, which almost caused an accident that could've injured or killed our family, which includes 2 elementary aged children. They never did the second step of replacing the piston rings if the problem persisted, because of the recall date. This was by design so the buyer would have to eat the cost ($2448 + tax). American Honda and wolfchase Honda (dealership), knew about the recall on this model of Pilot, even at purchase time, but did not tell us, nor did american Honda ever send a recall notice for it. Although they did send one for the takata airbags that was all over the news. Since apparently, the media hasn't heard of this problem, Honda decided to just ignore it and deny any claims Honda consumers have.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the brakes inadvertently engaged and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs system needed to be tested and the knock sensor and sub harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v092000 (service brakes, hydraulic, traction control system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000. Ss.

While doing routine driving the check engine light, vsa light, and vtm-4 light all came on and stayed on. The vehicle seemed to be running normally so I pulled over, turned off the vehicle and restarted it. Then only the check engine light stayed on. I continued to drive and about 10 minutes later the vsa light and vtm-4 lights came on again. I called my dealership and made an appointment. They said the vehicle could be driven with the check engine light on. I researched the issue online and found that a possible cause was a known issue regarding rings and pistons on v6 Honda engines from 2009 to 2013 that allows the oil to seep past the rings and foul the plugs and that there was no recall from Honda. When the dealership looked at the issue they said the vehicle was reporting that cylinder 2 had misfired once (they did not state that it was due to oil fouling the spark plug but my adviser implied that was the cause when he mentioned to keep an eye on the oil levels and change the oil at 5000 miles). They replaced all of the spark plugs and updated the vsa software per a TSB (technical service bulletin??) from Honda. The service adviser told me the issue might never reoccur, or it might, and that I should keep an eye on the oil level monthly, and change the oil every 5000 miles max (I've used mobil 1 fully synthetic since the vehicle was purchased new. . . And super unleaded gas). If it happens again I'll attempt to push the dealership to replace the rings and pistons as they are doing for some customers. If it doesn't happen again I'll need to sell the vehicle in the next 3 years before the extended 8 year warranty on this issue expires, which is too bad because it's been mostly a great vehicle, in great condition, and with low miles. Honda really should be doing a recall on this, but instead it seems they would rather lose customers and future sales.
Vsa,check engine lights came on, looks like same problem 2005 Pilots were recalled for. Vehicle brake on its own, complete loss of power, happened 2months a go and again 2/3/15. Had towed to shop to have scanned. Very scary situation.

The check engine light and vtm4 light come on after over an hour of driving. Sometimes the whole inside of the car smells has while driving and the fuel consumption is not efficient. In addition when the car sits in the garage for a few days, maybe 2-3, and I start driving, the wheels make some deep brushing noise. This gets worst when I brake. Sometimes it smells like something is burning under the hood or around the engine,.
June 2013 - (3 mos old) car consistently misfires right before eco light comes, stalls. Requested to have this feature turned off but per dealer this cannot happen. Told me this was normal could not "duplicate" problem. Second time (January 2014) check engine light came on car lost power then turned itself off. Once it stated again took directly into dealer. They were not able to "duplicate" problem and car does not store problem code. Kept for 5 days updated software. Car still is not 100% still feel misfire prior to eco light coming on. 3rd time taking car in April 2014 check engine light flashing loss power. Pulled to side turned off car. Within 1/2 hr had car back to dealer. Could not duplicate problem. The car did not store problem code. Without the codes it is my word against there's. This dangerous not knowing if car will decide to stall. Barely 13 mos old.

Dear sir/madam,
my 2004 Honda Pilot has 58k miles on it. I scheduled a 60k major maintenance on 3/19/2010. But on 3/18/2010 on my way back home, the check engine light was on, the car got vibration and smoke. I sent my car to the dealer immediately at about 7:00 pm on 3/18/2010. On 3/19/2010, the dealer called me and said the no. 5 spark plug came out and burned out the coil, it's a very unusual situation. I went to the dealer to check the damages: the spark plug only has the metal portion left, the coil burned out and only 1/3 or 1/2 left, the cylinder head got some damage too and some metal chips remained in the cylinder head and cylinder. I did the oil changes and maintenance at dealership regularly and drove the car gently. I don't think this incident is related to my driving style. It has to be quality issue on either the coil or the spark plug. But I am not a mechanics and don't know if this happened to other cars. Although the car is out of warranty (3 years/36k miles), I really think it's a serious quality issue. Honda needs to take care of this issue. I am unlucky, this happened to me, I am lucky, it happened to me not on highway. Hope the authority can do some investigation and urge Honda to resolve this issue. Thanks.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Pilot. When attempting to start the vehicle, it exhibited a no-start condition. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the technician could not identify the cause of the failure. Two days later while driving on the highway at 60 mph, the vehicle began losing power. She was able to safely coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership, in which the converters and injectors were replaced at her expense. The engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, and a technician concluded that the engine had to be internally inspected. The manufacturer was notified, and she was awaiting a response. The current mileage was approximately 3,500. The failure mileage was 3,461.

2003 Honda Pilot transmission: my transmission continues to slip in 2nd gear. I have replaced numerous items on the vehicle - steering column, motor mounts, etc. The list is numerous. I have had transmission problems almost since the beginning of purchasing this vehicle in February 2006. The dealer never told me that the 2003 Pilot had any type of transmission problems. I know as a consumer, I should have done my own research, but I had always heard excellent things about Honda. My transmission continues to slip, after revving. I took it to the dealer and even then they never said anything about problems. I had my repairman look at it because I was concerned. He is the one that told me this vehicle had transmission problems & all dealers were aware of it. I bought the extended warranty when I purchased the car - but of course, it is no longer valid. I am really upset because I drive my 2 children and the transmission will just stall in the middle of traffic - won't leave 2nd-3rd gear. It just revs at about 20-30 miles. It happens quite often and now the check engine light is coming on. The message boards say this is the end of the line. I will attempt to speak with my local dealer. I contacted american Honda who basically offered no assistance. Now, I am learning about the horrible things that have happened with the Honda 2003 Pilot transmissions and am just disappointed that in the effort to make money, no one thought of consumer safety. Obviously, Honda recognizes that this is a huge problem and still they are not offering any help to consumers. It is appalling. My car did have the Honda repair patch for the transmission in 2004 according to american Honda records, as the transmission had a problem even then. Of course, I have the car fax report and it didn't show this information. Is there somewhere else that you can track repairs on used vehicles?.
