When trying to drive my vehicle I noticed the steering wheel became hard to turn. I was able to get a tow truck to drop my vehicle off at the dealership to get it looked at. The dealership is telling me that it is due to a steering problem needing a rack and pinion part. This vehicle is a 2023 Honda Pilot which was just purchased by me in April. There hasnt been any issue until now.

After driving over a railroad crossing, all driver safety systems disabled, brake system error, awd torque distribution stopped and stated only fwd worked, and power steering stopped working. Was unable to manuever vehicle and had to ease vehicle over. Was able to stop the vehicle and shut it off. Restarted vehicle and power steering came back but other lights remained. Another few minutes went by and systems all returned to normal. This issue caused driver to lose all control of vehicle and thankfully didn't crash since vehicle was only traveling roughly 20 mph. If this happened at highway speed, there would be no way to safely stop the vehicle.

A few days after I got my new 2025 Honda Pilot touring, I was turning a corner and the car jerked a bit and several warning messages came up on the dash. I was able to pull the car into a parking spot and I recorded some of the warning messages (a few photos attached). The car worked fine after restarting and when I called the dealer they said that it may have been a sensor and not to worry. Then two days later, I was reversing out of a parking spot and the power steering stopped working. I was able to brake the car and drive it forward to get to a safe place, but the steering wouldn't work after trying to turn the car off and on a few times. There were also other warning messages that were flashing up on the dash. I had to get the car towed to the Honda dealership and am awaiting a report from them. The car is brand new with only 130 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and turning the steering wheel, the steering wheel made an abnormal clicking sound. The failure was a recurring failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure and associated the failure with air bag and an incorrect installation of the steering wheel. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
My whole steering wheel detached while driving.

My vehicle begun to make a clicking noise every time when turning the steering wheel. It has gotten worse over time, almost constantly. I took the vehicle for my first service and mentioned this to the service guy. He mentioned that this is a known problem on some of their Hondas, not just my vehicle and that they tried fixing it on another Honda vehicle but that the problem on that vehicle was worse after they tried to fix it. The guy basically said there is a sensor inside the steering wheel that tells the vehicle how much the wheel has turned (I forgot the name of the sensor). He basically admitted this was a known design flaw and recommended I leave the issue alone or it would get worst if they try to fix it.
Electrical issues began around 15,000 miles. Since then, the vehicle has been in the shop many times for electrical-related concerns and has required towing twice. Most concerning, these failures have left us stranded in dangerous conditions on multiple occasions. These incidents represent serious safety risks to our family and others on the road. We have been diligent about regular maintenance as well. A Honda vehicle of this age and mileage should not experience repeated electrical system breakdowns that compromise vehicle control and driver safety. When the car errors come on the car has lost awd (while in the mountains in a snow storm) acceleration, the ability to change driving modes, and this most recent event we lost complete access to the driver panel and steering while driving. This electrical issue has been documented over 5 times and we have been told specifically by the dealers weve been towed or brought to "you may have drove it too hard" or "we reset the codes and the car is now driving fine" or "we can't find a problem". Most recently the alternator failed and they will not back to repair because it's past 36,000. We want to see Honda fix these issues before someone is seriously injured. We have photos and video of all of the warnings each time they happened. We also have documentation of each electrical failure, the date, the mileage and what we were told by the dealership in response.
Bought brand new, I am at almost 68,000 miles. I have had vibration, rattling, etc near the front left of the car. After inspections and diagnostics. They said I need a new steering rack. It seems pre-mature to need a steering rack. No damage or high impact things have happened. Please investigate this issue to see if it could be manufacturing issue. Thank you! I am having it repaired by next week, if you need a receipt please email me at [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2024 Honda Pilot ex-l has a knocking sound when turning steering wheel in either direction when stopped or at slow speed as in parking.
At about 9700 miles I noticed a popping noise in the steering wheel when it was turned left or right after driving for a few miles and it could be felt in the steering wheel. The popping sound got worse and on July 7, 2025 I took the car to the Honda dealership I bought it from at 11, 900 miles and the master mechanic confirmed the sound and stated the steering rack needed to be replaced. That was done over 4 days but several months later the popping sound that could again be felt in the steering wheel returned. I contacted the georgia attorney general lemon law division and was advised that because it was a safety defect I should give Honda a final repair opportunity notice under the GA lemon law which I did on oct 24, 2025. Honda ignored the notice and the attorney general accepted the case for arbitration which is set for may 29, 2026. In preparation for arbitration, I discovered that at least 3 other complaints have been filed with the NHTSA about the exact same safety issue I have experienced. I do not know how these complaints were resolved but concerning one of them, the steering rack was replaced like mine and the popping sound from the steering returned. Honda therefore knows of this safety defect but has continued to ignore my lemon law complaint and request for discovery of internal Honda information concerning this defect. I have severely limited driving of this vehicle to short trips at slow speeds to my law firm and cannot drive it at highway speeds for fear of steering failure.
Steering rack and pinion worn with approx 38,000 miles. Dealerships (2) advised the” clunking” was “normal” on the model. Another dealership advised it was more likely the cv-axles worn. Took to two independent garages who advised steering rack was bad. I advised them the dealer stated it was cv-axles. They stated the axles were fine. No wrecks, no driving off-road, and no driving in a manner that would cause failure. 2 years of asking about the clunking noise (now at 54,000 miles) and no ownership or accountability by the oem for garbage parts. A steering rack should not be worn out in 5 yrs or 54,000 miles. I have my late father’s 1977 truck and it still has the original steering from the day he bought it in the fall of 1976. Forums and many other owners tell me it’s a safety concern and I agree. If Honda thinks sub-par steering components are ok… then I’ll be sure to replace every aircraft component on the executive jets with the same cost savings. It’s not insignificant parts, theirs is truly placing cost savings per unit above lives of people.

While operating the vehicle under normal conditions, the electric power steering system failed completely. The steering wheel became entirely unresponsive, effectively locking in place. My wife was forced to exert extreme effort to maneuver the vehicle safely off the roadway into a nearby parking lot. This created a serious life safety incident for her and others. Upon failure, the dashboard displayed multiple system errors and safety warnings, including: auto high-beam problem “manual controls available. See your dealer. ” electric power steering system problem “steering assist not available. Do not drive. ” brake system problem “brake performance may be reduced. See your dealer. ” brake hold system problem “apply brake when stopped. See your dealer. ” vehicle stability assist system problem “reduced traction and handling. See your dealer. ” hill start assist problem “vehicle may roll upon brake release. See your dealer. ” trailer stability assist system problem “see your dealer. ” hill descent control system problem “apply brake when descending. See your dealer. ” after turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the steering assist returned temporarily. After arriving to the scene of the incident, I proceeded to the nearest Honda dealership for immediate inspection. The inspection took place on 06/23/2025 and no assignable root cause was found. The dealership attempted to return the vehicle to me at that time, but I refused.
There is a popping noise when turning and hitting bumps and a slight clicking noise when driving. I am very unsure as to where the issue is coming from (cb axle, steering rack, ball joints, bushings, some say welds or loose bolts). I see many people online talking about this issue online. It needs to be addressed.

When driving at a low speed like in a parking lot, the steering wheel makes cracking noises. The noise becomes more obvious in warm temperatures and after the vehicle has been running for a while.
I purchased a brand-new 2025 Honda Pilot elite, and within the first 1,000 miles of driving, I began noticing multiple concerning noises and performance issues: steering noise: at low speeds, particularly while turning, the steering system emits a subtle but persistent creaking noise/noises from the steering wheel area. The creaking is especially noticeable when making slow turns in parking lots or driveways. It appears to worsen in warmer temperatures and is consistent regardless of road condition. I brought the issue to the dealership's attention, and they kept the vehicle for approximately three weeks. They replaced the clock spring and airbag, claiming the noise was resolved. However, the creaking noise returned shortly after I resumed driving the vehicle. Brake popping: there is also a popping/clicking noise coming from the front left brake area, especially when braking or shifting between drive and reverse. The dealership lubricated the brake hardware but did not resolve the issue. Despite Honda service attempts, the noises persist. Numerous other 2023–2025 Honda Pilot owners have reported similar symptoms online, many citing steering rack/pinion defects or unresolved brake component issues. These defects appear widespread and unresolved by standard dealership repairs. Safety concern: while the issues may currently present as mechanical noises, I am deeply concerned that they may signal underlying defects in critical safety systems—such as steering control and braking performance. Unaddressed, these could potentially lead to steering failure, brake failure, or loss of control, especially during low-speed maneuvers where driver response time may be compromised due to mechanical unpredictability. Request for investigation: I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate these issues, as they appear to be affecting a growing number of new Honda Pilot vehicles across the 2023 to 2025 model years, the dealership do not know what to do.
My Honda is having strange, intermittent issues with a plethora of things. I have taken it to a diagnostic specialist who worked with a phone mechanic and noone can tell me what is going on. My car will fully shut off at stop lights randomly, so I have to turn off the auto-idle feature every time I drive. Sometimes my power steering cuts out and my wheel locks and unlocks and my computer screen shuts off when this happens. I have to shut off and start my car for it to work again. Other times, all of my automated safety features stop and I get a huge slew of messages telling me that my lane assist, automatic hill braking, and a ton of other automatic safety features don't work. My car can't lane assist, do adaptive cruise control, use the backup camera, or anything. It goes away if I stop and restart my car a bunch. I also had a seatbelt alarm that was going off repeatedly with no reason. The dealership turned off the alarm. I am having a lot of issues with this car that makes me question if it is a lemon. I see other new Pilot owners mentioning issues with power steering shutting off and it's a huge safety risk. Noone knows whats wrong or how to fix it so what do I do? this happens intermittently, randomly, and recurrently since June.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, after the vehicle had warmed up, there was a popping and clicking sound coming from the vehicle while turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The contact stated that one year later, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering rack needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, there was an abnormal beeping sound coming the instrument panel three times and the steering wheel unexpectedly became inoperable. The contact stated that the steering started shaking abnormally. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the results were unknown. The vehicle was then taken to a mr. Tire to be diagnosed and it was determined that the brake pads needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the front and rear brakes were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.
Steering will make creaking/knocking noise any time the temp warms to 70 or more or if temp is below, after about an hours drive. Hundreds of reports online about this exact issue with dozens of videos, all with the exact same issue. Yet Honda has done nothing to solve the problem or investigate the safety impacts of leaving this issue unchecked. Happens when turning the wheel whether in motion or parked. Doesn’t matter.
Loud clicking noise when turning/steering at low speeds. Problem has been worsening over past several months.

Steering wheel "clicks" at low-speed turns. This began at 1,500 miles. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership three times for a repair and the clicking returns each time approximately one week after the repair. Concerned that the steering wheel will lose connection with the steering column.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving and turning in either direction, there was a clicking and squeaking sound coming from the steering column, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable the identify the cause of the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the extended coverage or recall related to the failure. The failure mileage was 58,900.
While driving at low speeds after the vehicle has warmed up there are popping: clicking sounds while turning. Has the vehicle looked at by Honda and of course they didn’t hear anything. Other vehicles have needed the steering rack recalled and I need a recall to be issued for my car. Brand new car should be making noise and no car should be making noise while driving like this. Get it together.
I have clicking, ticking noise coming from the stering wheel area during low spedd turning. I notice the noise around the front lef and right wheel area when I pulling in or out of parking spot.
The vehicle was sold to us with pre-existing major damage to the control arms, bearings and a brake rotor. We heard a metal on metal scraping noise when turning left and immediately took it to a certified Honda dealer who then provided us details of the extent of the damage. The damage to the brake rotor could have caused brake failure and damage to the control arm could have caused on accident. I can't imagine the guilt I'd feel if my [xxx] wife and my [xxx] son got into an accident. This vehicle is their daily driver. Loud popping noise when steering started at about 2000 miles. The entire steering rack was replaced. At 7000 miles the noise is back along with a clicking in the steering wheel. Took it to the dealership again and they adjusted the clock spring, but it is still there. I am worried because I am afraid my steering will fail. The dealer did reproduce the problem both times. No independent inspection. No warning lamps.
2022 Honda Pilot - steering wheel / front of car started to make a clanking noise when driving over speed bumps / noise started around 35k miles on odometer. Two different service appointments with Honda pointed to shocks and sway bar links; 3rd non Honda service appointment found the issue to be a failing rack and pinion. 3rd service appointment replaced the rack and pinion / sound is gone and vehicle steers tight once again. Mileage was 44k when replaced.
The power steering losses fluid the steering is hard to turn and makes noise and the fluid gets on an area that gets hot I have not had an accident yet.

Since we purchased the vehicle back in 2019, the truck would stall and want to shut off during driving on and off. We received the recall information back in August and were told to call and make an appointment to service the recall. Back in August they said they didn't have enough parts in stock to service the recall and they would call me when more parts became available. Now we are in December and the truck is getting worse and we have not received any information regarding service to it. We have two young children in the car with us daily and are afraid that something might go wrong with the car.
My 2020 Honda Pilot steering wheel locks or sticks while driving, which terrifies me. After researching the problem online, I found that 2020 Honda vehicles have been recalled due to a manufacturing defect in the steering gearbox assembly. My vehicle is not on the list. Please advise. Thank you!.
Been having engine issues for a while. All the way back to around 32,000 miles. The display says something about rods locker arms or something like that. I've also had an issue with throttle position sensor which was repaired however technician didn't tighten up a boat and I lost the oil pressure. The car was repaired at the end of 2017 in the beginning of 2018 but I've had the issue ever since so I typically don't drive the car too far since that incident. Some of the repairs should be in the carfax however issue shows up from time to time on my display. I've also had to have some steering control module replaced in 2021. And I just got a transmission service to have the torque converter flush and reprogrammed because of constant jerking when accelerating.

I was driving and I began slowing down as I approached a red light. My vehicle suddenly stopped. I was unable to turn the vehicle back on nor change the gear. When I would press the start button while pressing the brakes, some dash lights would turn on but again I was not able to change the gear. After several attempts of turning the car on, the car started and I was able to change gears to drive. Approximately one or two blocks later, while in motion, the car abruptly stopped again. This time the dash displayed “engine oil pressure low” stop engine. Do not drive”. The car was subsequently towed to a nearby Honda dealership where an inspection was allegedly done and the issue was supposedly fixed. The service notes stated the vehicle was found with low oil levels and that no leak was found. They released the car back to me. Now, one week after I picked the car up from the Honda service department, I encountered the same issue again. While stopped in traffic, my vehicle shut down. I was unable to turn it back on nor change the gears. An orange steering wheel with an orange exclamation mark next to it popped up on the upper right hand corner of my dashboard along with a red battery logo below it. I was on the roadway unable to turn the car back on for approximately one hour. After continuous failed attempts to turn the car on and change the gear, at one point it turned back on and I was able to drive the car.
Clicking and groaning noise when turning the steering wheel. Happens at any speed including when stopped. Randomly started happening one day.
