Equipment problem #1

The infotainment system failed intermittently two times prior, causing failure of the backup camera and cross traffic warning sensor system. The entire system failed a month ago and Honda has no idea when they can get parts.

Equipment problem #2

There is a presence of gasoline in the oil which is causing two(2) safety issues. 1. The infiltration of gasoline in the oil can cause the engine to malfunction to the point of seizure which could cause a sudden stop in traffic flow. 2. The noxious gasoline fumes are unbearable in the cabin of the truck causing headaches, nausea, and lightheadedness which could cause an accident while driving and could cause the driver to become disoriented and cause an accident. I took the vehicle to napleton Honda in loves park, illinois to address the problem, and they, in turn contacted american Honda for guidance. The dealership said the technical arm of american Honda said the fumes and the gasoline infiltration was, "normal. I was contacted by american Honda and they suggested that I get a second opinion from another dealership, which imho is moot because they will contact american Honda for guidance and they will be told the exact same thing. The case number with american Honda xxx. The vehicle is currently under warranty for approximately one(1) more month. I had the oil analyzed by blackstone laboratories and they did, in fact detect gasoline in the oil. I have those results. I talked to the Honda case manager and she said that Honda will not/does not accept third party testing. American Honda will not even agree to test the oil themselves to determine if what I'm saying is true. I would sincerely appreciate any assistance since my truck is almost unbearable and certainly unsafe to drive. There are currently no warning or check engine lights on, but a simple oil analysis would, 100% confirm the presence of gasoline in the oil. I have noticed the gasoline odor for approximately 9 months and it has progressively gotten worse. I try to combat the noxious odors and impending motor damage by changing my oil very frequently which is approximately every 500-750 miles with full synthetic oil. Please contact me if you need anything further. Thank you. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informat.

Equipment problem #3

Inner door handles on the driver and passenger side front doors intermittently get stuck and require me to hit the unlock button to operate or require significant force to pull open hindering safe egress. Problem was reproduced by service technician and advisor when picking up vehicle from an appointment on [xxx]. No warning lights were received. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Equipment problem #4

Driving down the highway at 70mph and the sunroof randomly explodes and glass falls all over me. There was nothing wrong with the window at the time of failure and to my knowledge nothing made contact to cause this. This is extremely dangerous. I have searched forums online and found this it a regularly occurring incident. Honda should be responsible to repair/replace faulty sunroof.

Equipment problem #5

After months of using my new Ridgeline the garage door closed inadvertently once I passed down the garage motor impacting the vehicle at the exit. The Ridgeline uses the homelink on the rear-view window which is included as part of the Ridgeline. I contacted Honda and they referred me to homelink for whom I also created an incident.

Equipment problem #6

My 2023 Honda Ridgeline is leaking water from under the dashboard and leaving water on the passenger side front floorboard. This is also a safety risk due to the amount of electrical wiring from where the leak is originating. So far Honda cannot find the source of the leak despite the water on the carpet and rubber floormat.

Equipment problem #7

Both drivers and passenger doors won't unlock or open without significant' force. This only occurs sometimes but has happened many times over the last year. I have had witnesses (son's) in the car when this happens. It seems like the door locking solenoid is holding the doors locked and both pulling the handle and tryin to flip the unlock switch are difficult. The risk here is in a crash or fire, someone without strength, won't be able to exit the vehicle. I video'd this on 27apr24 (can provide if requested).

Equipment problem #8

The Ridgeline is unsafe with the mirror tilting and moving when in reverse. Mirrors need to be adjusted every time I go in reverse. Everytime. This is unsafe as the mirror not only fails to stay static or wherever I adjust it to. It drops down (the mirror) every time I put the truck in reverse. The Ridgeline is unsafe when I back up, the mirrors move and distort and defeat the whole purpose of a mirror rendering it ineffective and a huge safety hazard. The Ridgeline is unsafe when the truck lunges forward when placing in park, after reverse. I suppose it is trying to get the mirror back to the orginal position which needs to be adjusted back every-time. The mirror is not static. When placing in drive after reverse the lunge is not only jarring to my neck and back, it is completely unsafe. In my lay opinion what I think is happening is the truck’s computer is waiting for the mirrors to return to their position, but then are out of focus requiring me to pull over to readjust the mirror every time I back up. This is extremely unsafe especially in tight environments like parking spaces (backing out. Parking. Adjusting mirror to correct and safe position. Then proceeding with my trip). This is impractical in some situations and thus ineffectual in all others. Coupled with a wiring harness failure in cold temps for mirror, cameras are ineffective as well. I live in minnesota and we have extreme winters. The harness issue is a previously recalled issue. But it is only compounded by these other issues.

Equipment problem #9

Auto-restart system has a warranty extension, but the dealer will not perform the repair until after the Honda Ridgeline has the problem occur at least once, thus placing the driver and any passengers in danger. This system did malfunction in our other Honda vehicle with the same warranty extension. When that occurred, it left us stranded in the middle of a six-lane road where we had stopped at a light and could not restart the vehicle. Several cars almost ran into us. Our 17-year-old daughter drives this vehicle and I do not want to wait until this major threat occurs to have Honda repair it. I filed a complaint with Honda, and they advised me they would do nothing and that I should file a complaint with the NHTSA.

Equipment problem #10

The truck makes a metallic clicking noise when accelerating and letting off accelerator pedal. I have taken the truck to the dealership and they believe it is some sort of subframe issue. They aren’t sure where it is coming from or what is causing it. Their guess is some sort of manufacturing error when installing subframe.

Equipment problem #11

Wireless charger not working.

Equipment problem #12

Multiple issues that are safety concerns. 1. The lane mitigation system or forward collision warning system. These has been a constant problem from date of purchase. A. Repeated warning flashes on dash when driving on any type of road with a slight curve or a standard turn, also two lane roads causes terrible warning on the dash as well. Very distracting! 2. The adaptive cruise control performs a hard brake/ing when another driver enters into my lane (in front of me) which causes other drivers entering into or following me to also make evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting my vehicle. People think I'm brake checking them. Constant problem and is a serious safety issue. 3. This is also a huge problem and can cause the police to be citing me for a distracted driver violation. My infotainment system has connectivity issue and is very distracting which is a safety issue. Example: if I can get my phone connected correctly (constant connectivity issues typically at start up) while driving the infotainment system disconnects randomly and typically will not reconnect unless I stop my vehicle and turn it off so to reset the system. I am a cdl driver and touching or operating an electronic device (cell phone) will cause me to be cited by the police department, this has distracting me regularly. Honda is unwilling to do a software update to remedy these problems and I am gracefully asking for your help. We have spent 46k on a vehicle so we can have these safety features and this vehicle as been the opposite of safe. Super distracting and stressful to drive. I have spoken to the dealership four separate times about these issues but I recently found out by Honda that only one did the dealership document my concerns.

Equipment problem #13

2nd time to Honda of covington for the passenger door will not manually unlock or open with inside door handle unless you push the electric unlock button 1st. Josh, the service writer, said it was a safety feature and wrote it on my repair order and hasn’t had the service manager come out to the vehicle with me as requested as this is a safety problem, loose battery power and your passenger cannot get out. I showed josh a memo I found on this site saying that Honda wants all reports of this problem sent to them, josh won’t acknowledge the report. I am making myself a nuisance and now josh said someone will call me Monday August 21st. I called Honda and they said, “we have no reports of this problem but will give you a case number”. That number is 14052622. I don’t understand why no one cares? if we get in a wreck and loose battery power the passenger door will not open and one can only hope my wife is not injured to the point where she can’t crawl over the center console to exit on the driver’s side.

Equipment problem #14

The engine auto idle stop system causes the vehicle to intermittently drift backward (without power) for 1-2 seconds, until restart, when at certain types of intersections (extremely minimal incline or near-level intersections). This has caused numerous unsafe situations during normal driving involving the backward drift. Furthermore, the drift and restart delay cause significant hesitation during intended acceleration attempts at the described intersections. The drift has potential to cause a collision with catastrophic injury to a trailing vehicle, and the restart delay can cause a collision with catastrophic injury at intersections. The dealer and manufacturer have both had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle and report it is operating "as designed. " the only message is the illuminated green engine idle stop light that activates when the engine is stopped.

Equipment problem #15

We purchased our new 2023 Ridgeline rtl-e 4 six months ago and always noticed that the passenger inside door handle wouldn’t open the door unless we pushed the unlock button, the driver’s door works normally. We thought this might be a new safety thing until we tried to manually unlock the passenger door today and could not, meaning the passenger door can only be opened inside if you electronically unlock the door. That’s concerning…if we loose battery power in a wreck, you cannot get out the passenger door!! we are calling the dealer in the morning to get this addressed.

Equipment problem #16

The truck lurches forward maybe 2". Once when parking and once when using the remote start. Fortunately it didn't hit anything or anybody.

Equipment problem #17

The component I will be writing about is the front, passenger door locking feature (interior side). I have taken my vehicle to the Honda dealership for inspection. I have also checked new Honda Ridgelines on the lot and found this same locking feature doesn't work the same in each vehicle. This means, in my opinion, that this issue is coming right out of the factory. This problem is easily reproduced. So here is the problem and is only affected on the passenger front door (interior side). The driver's side front door locking feature works without issue. When after manually locking the front passenger door by sliding and pushing in the lock, you are able to open the door by using the interior door handle without issue. The problem is when you use the power lock button on either side of the vehicle to lock all the doors. On the driver's side, you can open the door using the handle without issue. On the front passenger side, when pulling the handle ( to open the door), the handle moves a bit, then is physically stopped by something inside the door causing you to be unable to open the door. In addition to this, you cannot slide the lock to the open position so that you can open the door. So if you used the power button to lock the doors, then got in an accident and the power was disabled, you could be trapped on the passenger side and would really be a problem if a fire had started. The dealership loaned me a 2022 Honda pilot, and it has the same issue as my truck.
