4 Brake Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

Hello, I own a 2007 Hyundai Accent and I happened to be driving on the queensway and a lady pulled up beside me and told me that I had no rear brake lights. I brought my car back home and I conducted a search to see if there were any recalls for my vehicle with the issue that I am having. There was indeed a recall about the rear brake lamp switch. I contacted my local Hyundai dealer and they said that yes there was a recall. I brought my vehicle into the dealer the next day to find out that my car was not covered under the recall and the switch that I need was on back order because of the recall. I was very upset because my vehicle was not safe to drive and the dealer was not going to cover the issue or nor was the part even available. I contacted Hyundai canada and I explained the issue to them and they said that I was out of luck because the part was on back order and it would be a couple of months before the part would be available. I asked if they would be willing to cover a rental because it was a unsafe to drive and they said "no" that I would have to find my own way. I feel that this issue should be made aware so that issues like mine could be deal with differently. I feel that Hyundai canada could have provided me with some sort of help other then your out of luck. I rely on my car on a daily bases and I could not afford to pay over $1000 per month to have a rental car. Thank you.
