Stop lamp switch malfunction. Apparently this is/was a problem on many Hyundai cars from 2007 because they issued a recall on over half a million cars. My specific car (VIN number) was not included; however my stop lamp switch did malfunction. I feel like I should have been part of that recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that the cruise control engaged and the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact tried to break and disengage the cruise control but was unable to stop the vehicle until he shifted into neutral gear. The vehicle was taken to dealer who stated that the break switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 50,000.
Brakes need to be replaced after 26,752 kms front and back. Dealer claims front & rear brakes completely worn. Alternative reputable repair company does complete inspection and brakes are only 60% worn and do not need replacement. If dealer is correct it is a major safety hazard after such little use. Further, another purchaser was servicing their Hyundai and she said her brakes need replacement after 22,000 kms. Unable to understand how this company can receive so many awards and have such poor product.
