Paint flacking off hood in large pieces.

2 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

My vehicle has caught fire on 11/14/20 as it was parked at resident. We heard a pop sound and then fire started. June I had my battery replace. Feb I had issue with the )2 sensor that has been taken car of. After the fire I received a recal notice.

3 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

Unable to open driver's side door to exit vehicle. I have to roll down window and use exterior handle to get out of vehicle. The vehicle was stationary. My warranty was 2 months and 2 days expired. Dealership wanted $140 just to diagnosis the problem. I did not have the money to do this. My son removed the door handle and found a broken plastic clip that normally would engage and open the door. We were unable to find a replacement part. I am concerned that if I need to exit the vehicle quickly, I would be unable to do so.

4 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

The metallic silver paint that the company used to cover the black plastic housing for the window and lock buttons easily scratches and scrapes off with "normal" routine touching and with "normal" resting of the arms on these area. The company rep won't admit that they used cheap paint or didn't think about these "high traffic" areas when deciding to use inferior non-durable paint on these parts. I have only had my car for 6 months and the dpsm from Hyundai (marietta, georgia - southern headquarters) is not acknowledging the bad manufacturing choice of using the substandard, non-durable coating for these parts. These metallic painted parts cannot withstand everyday "normal" use, as they become unattractive and worn in a very short period of time. (within 6 months - in my case).

5 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

The vehicle rear ended a Ford escape at under 20 mph. The Hyundai sustained extensive front end and engine damage. The car was totaled and not repaired. The other vehicle received minor rear bumper damage. The air bags on the Hyundai did not deploy and the driver hit her forehead and receive a bruised bump that did not require medical attention.

Takata recall. My wife was sideswiped by a hit and run driver and ran off the road onto a rough vacant field. Airbag failed to deploy and she hit her head on the steering wheel and suffered a skull fracture. Two weeks after the accident she started having memory problems and has suffered 5 strokes and a CT scan shows brain damage. This has gone on since April of 2012 and the car was just a few months old with approxamatly 8,000 miles on the car. It did about $ 8000. 00 dollars in damage which was never repaired right until alfa insurance company in alabama sent us to the best body man around and he replaced the entire front end of the outer panels and all of the underside supports and matched the paint perfect. I expect my wife to either be in a nursing home or more strokes may kill her. I don't have the accident report since it's been almost 4 years since the accident. The Hyundai Accent is a death trap in my opinion and should not be on our united states roads at all. That car will kill you in the slightest accident and my wife is turning into a vegetable before my eyes. Thank you, james l kirby in coker, alabama 35452. She did have a witness that was installing cable tv lines on a power pole she almost hit. We did file a lawsuit against and the attorney settled for about $10,000. 00 and he sold us out. She can't have nursing care for that amount.

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

About 4 months after I bought a 2012 Hyundai Accent new, the rear plastic bumper cover, in the area by the exhaust pipe, developed a 2-inch or so crack with no seeming cause. I didn't hit anything, and nothing hit me. I'm assuming it was related to hot exhaust gases hitting the cover. Hyundai did pay for the repair. However, 3 years later, another similarly sized crack has developed in the same area. As you know, in many cars the exhaust pipe extends beyond the rear bumper. So, in those cars, the rear bumpers don't get hit by hot exhaust gases. That's not the case with the 2012 Accents. Perhaps Hyundai needs to extend the exhaust pipe beyond the bumper. For those who think maybe a rock did the damage in both cases---my front plastic bumper (like your front bumper) routinely/occasionally gets hit with little pebbles and rocks thrown at it by other cars in front of me, but that bumper has no cracks, just little nicks in the plastic. So I don't think rocks caused both cracks, and I don't think it's merely a coincidence that both cracks are located by the exhaust pipe. Anybody else experience anything similar?.
