1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2025

My 2015 Hyundai Accent started having problems with oil consumption around 65000 miles. I got it checked regularly and the mechanic noticed it after it was having issues accelerating and losing power then cutting off completely. I had to constantly check oil each week or sooner. A couple months later it started losing power on high way and there was a clicking/ticking coming from engine. I pulled over and cut it off. Then drove it slowly (under 30 mph) to car store down the road to add oil but it was fine. Was able to get back home on back roads going slowly. Mechanic told me there oil consumption was a problem with these types of cars and likely causing engine problems. The whole time I had problems the check engine, battery, and oil light would constantly come on and go off. When they hooked it up to see why check engine light was on there were about 15 different codes. One of them being the variable valve solenoid which I ended up replacing both first but still had problems. It would accelerate but there was still a ticking noise upon accelerating. I didn’t drive it for a few weeks then the day I was going to take it back to shop, my husband, his friend, and I were on highway a couple minutes from home and hit a bump and heard a loud thud when the ticking stopped but the car beside us was waving to get our attention that the car was on fire. There was smoke coming through a. C. And you could see it in the rear. My husband quickly pulled over and when I went to get out of passengers side, flames shot up my side of the door so I quickly jumped across out his side. We were able to all get out ok. Luckily there was a firetruck coming down the highway before I could even get ahold of dispatch on 911. The cars front end was engulfed in flames which they were able to put out quickly. The hood was roasted. I’m not sure if they determined the cause and my car is still sitting in the lot where they towed it. Unfortunately I had a lapse in insurance because I was out of work.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2024

My 2015 Hyundai Accent started having issues with oil consumption at about 80,000 miles or so. I was having to check and add oil to the vehicle regularly in addition to oil changes. The oil consumption issue got worse as the vehicle got higher in miles, having to check and add oil every 600-1000 miles approximately. I was not aware of the known issue with Hyundai motors and the oil consumption so I was not tracking milage or dates of adding oil unfortunately. At about 100,135 miles, the vehicle suddenly broke down on my way to work. There was no warning other than the oil consumption problem. The car rpms got very high and the car started decelerating until it wouldn't go forward anymore and was stalled on the side of the road. I had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership and at this time it waiting for the diagnosis, however, they are sure that the head gasket has to be removed (for $500) to get that diagnosis. When the car died, there were no warning lights on at all, however, previously, there had been lights for low oil occasionally, but not always, when the oil was low. Many times when I checked and the oil was low, there was no light that indicated that it was low.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2023

My car unexpectedly caught fire while driving at lax airport on June 21, 2023 around 11-11:30a. M. The whole car burned within a few minutes. There was nothing I could do.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Electrical malfunction with window device causing a passenger door fire. Also causing no headlights, rear lights, interior electrical everything, locks and windows all around the car not to function. Hyundai declines paying yet still wants this vehicle as is on the road. Please see attached photo. On 1/15/18 it was a cold day, I rolled the window down and attempted to roll it back up with the window started making noise. It did roll up and I proceeded back inside to work. I went outside on break and my car was on fire. The car was not in motion and no one was in the vehicle to initiate the fire.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

2015 Hyundai Accent electrical malfunction on the front passenger door causing a fire. The car was parked but the window made a horrible noise when being rolled up. When I went back to the car, the door was all melted. Hyundai inspected the vehicle and stated the cause of the fire is unknown but declines fixing or replacing it. Every week its a new possible cause but nothing confirmed except unknown. The car is covered under the new vehicle warranty but my attorney has been unsuccessful . At this time with no head lights, tail lights, electrical dash, windows or locks, Hyundai has stated they cannot confirm the car is safe to drive, but want me to put myself and my unborn child at risk.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

This computer malfunction has created dangerous situations. The car is unpredictable and hazardous to me and everyone in traffic. 6/8/when the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the battery light came on and the car could not move. After I turned off the engine and then turned it on again, the problem was gone and I could drive. 7/27/the problem recurred in a similar fashion, again after stopping at a traffic light. Only this time multiple lights came on on the dash board, and the car could not move. After restarting I could keep driving. 9/24/while driving, multiple lights came on on the dash board. A few moments later they went off, but the trip odometers a/b reset themselves to 0. 1/17/the same problem recurred. While driving, multiple lights came on on the dash board. A few moments later they went off, but the trip odometers a/b reset themselves to 0. Repairs to fix the problem: the cluster was replaced. The alternator was replaced. But the problem has been recurring again.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

This is the third time im reporting this defective car. While driving my 2015 Hyundai Accent it began to power down the oil light, the battery light and steering light came on the dashboard. This was reported to roadside assistance and my car was towed. Previously this same issue occurred a week to the date that I bought the car and it was towed to the dealership to be serviced. I was told a new transmission was needed that the torque converter locked up. Anyway a new transmission was put in the vechile and I got the vechile back, less than a week later they vehicle is acting up again! and here I am complaining again.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

On 6/8/15 when I stopped at a traffic light, the battery light came on and the car stalled. After I turned it off and turned it on again, the problem disappeared. On 7/27/15, a similar situation recurred, again after stopping at a traffic light. This time multiple warning lights came on, including engine oil pressure, parking brake/brake fluid and something else. The car stalled again. And again after turning it off and on the problem disappeared and then I could drive no problem. Very likely it may be a computer malfunction. With this issue the car is unpredictable, unreliable and respectively dangerous.
