38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

A trip turned into twice being stranded on the side of the road with this car. Never been out of the bay area with it. It starts skipping a few beats, loses acceleration. Recovers itself until the next time. Becomes quite intermittent after that point. I got to jacksonville after leaving here. Lost power, tossed white smoke out the tail pipe. Just lugs along and then recovers. So I pulled off the freeway. Into a shopping mall. Turned it off. Started it again? nothing but white smoke out the back end. I called a tow truck. Had it towed into the local Hyundai dealership. Where after an hour? they had done some type of emissions clean out? and a transmission flush. Out of pocket? $289. I leave. I decide to come back home instead. I just didn't trust this car the rest of the way to va. . I get to ocala. Merging on to the 75 interchange? two cars and a semi behind me. A semi to the left side had to move over because I punched the gas to merge on? stalled, something went boom under me? and so much white smoke behind me? it engulfed the vehicles behind me. It literally lost power and I had to coast over to the shoulder? then recovered itself. I got it to the rest area a mile up the road. Called a tow truck again. Had it towed to the local Hyundai dealership. These people replaced the cat converter and a sensor. The rest of the trip home. At the 60 mile mark again? it starts up again. Spitting and sputtering. Losing acceleration. . Trucks behind me. I'm praying by this point. I eventually pulled off at the wesley chapel exit * and slowly made it home back to clearwater. Hyundai America is who I called at this point. Took it in yet again to a local Hyundai dealership who as usual after 2 days? find absolutely nothing wrong. I get it back? and it sounds worse and runs worse than it ever did now. Sounds like a puttering volkswagon. I am seriously afraid of this car. Seriously!.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 04/01/2006

On a 2002 Hyundai, the throttle sensor malfunctioned in 2004. This causes the engine to rev to very high levels (as high as 4-5000 rpm) and the car lunges forward; braking barely seems to hold it back. It is like a car possessed. The first time this happened, my husband was backing out of the garage, and the car shot out of the garage, into the alley, and he nearly hit the garage behind us. The throttle sensor was replaced. In early 2006, it failed again. I was driving in traffic and the car leapt forward; I had to repeatedly tap the brake to avoid hitting the people in front of me. Without using the brake or the gas, the car would move at 20 mph. It happened again the following morning when I started the car. The engine revved very high without me ever touching the gas. It happens when the car has just been started and when it has been running. Putting the car into park and tapping the gas will often cause the rpms to go down. After the 2002 incident, the service center casually mentioned this has happened to other Hyundais. During the most recent repair, I made a point of mentioning this was the 2nd time this malfunction had occurred; the mechanic didn't express any feelings or impressions about this. The car is still covered, for the remainder of 2006, under a bumper-to-bumper warranty, so this has been repaired twice by the dealership. However, this is an alarming malfunction that could cause a serious accident, and it seems to be habitual for this car -- every 2 years-- and perhaps for others too. It's made me nervous about owning the car much longer.
