50 mph dry, clear and straight road, right rear control arm broke causing the rear wheel to become detached from the car and causing the car to careen into oncoming lane before correcting and landing in the right-hand ditch. Could have been a disaster and only by grace was this not a disaster for me and an unknown oncoming car. Event was witnessed by people in 2 other cars and they both stopped and gave their names.
Both the tire sensor and passenger air bag has come on. Air bag stays on even when no one is in seat. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
After my abs system was activated after sliding straight on snow and ice on a side road (my speed was less than 15 mph prior to braking), I heard a grinding noise. Shortly afterward, I could smell burnt rubber. I investigated my front right tire and noticed that a huge groove was scraped into the sidewall of the tire (on the back side of the wheel). The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership and they confirmed that the coil spring had broken in two places and was tearing into the back side of my tire. It almost tore all the way through the sidewall of the tire. If I had kept driving it unaware of the danger, it would have cut my tire in half and cause me to lose control of my vehicle and I do a lot of interstate driving.
