Door problems of the 1997 Hyundai Elantra

Seven problems related to door have been reported for the 1997 Hyundai Elantra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Door problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2001

Failure makes it impossible to open door from inside. Started to fail at abt 30,000.

2 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/04/1999

Door handle on the inside of the vehicle fails to work. Would have to open door on the outside while being inside of vehicle. All the door handles on vehicle are broken. Taking vehicle to dealer to check.

3 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/13/1998

Original & one inside door release failed (installing 3rd one now).

4 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/17/1998

Power window & door locks failed.

5 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/17/1998

Rear & front door handle cracked.

6 Door problem

Driver's side door handle has broken on several occasions. When handle broke driver's side occupant was unable to exit vehicle. Also, a problem with engine,. When truning off vehicle with key out of the ignition, engine continued to run. Consumer has contacted dealer. Please provide any further details.

7 Door problem

Within 17,000 miles the front brake pads has prematurely worn out, and rotors were resurfaced. Cause unknown. Dealer cannot identify the problem. Both front window fall while driving. Door ajar light stays on. Right door panel make noise. Dome light stays on.
