1 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Srs warning light on dash came on 6 months ago. I got prices of $400-2000 to repair. Dealer was $120 just to do diagnostic. I've googled problem and this is common for Elantra. This is a safety issue. Why is there a recall?.

2 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Back in 2011, our 2009 Hyundai Elantra airbag light would stay on intermittently when the passenger seat was slid back. The light would go off when the seat was slid forward. Hyundai issued a recall in 2011 adding a cover to a sensor that seemed to fix the issue. Now, July 2015 and the airbag warning light is on and stays on. It started again when I: entered the vehicle, started it up, the airbag light went off. I then dropped two rental dvd movie cases on the passenger seat cushion, the weight of the two meager plastic cases triggered the light to come on the instant the cases landed on the cushion. It has stayed on since.

3 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

Airbag warning light is illuminated in instrument cluster. Brought it to the dealer for routine maintenance and had them look into it at that time. They said the weight sensor in the front passenger seat is malfunctioning. This sensor tells the airbag system if someone is sitting in the front seat and whether it should be on or not. The on/off light by the controls appears to be working properly. Meaning if someone is sitting in the seat, the airbag off light is not illuminated. The dealer stated that the sensor is measuring a negative 100+kg. The only way to repair the problem is to replace the sensor which entails replacing the seat bottom. They quoted $1500 to do the job. The airbag system is still working but it takes over 100 kg to turn on the passenger airbag.

4 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

The passenger seat weight classification sensor failed and as a result the car shut down the airbag system. The airbag warning light is on and as such none of the airbags will function. The dealer quoted me at nearly $2,000 to fix the problem, and mentioned replacing the entire seat bottom. Requiring a complete seat replacement for a simple sensor seems like a major design flaw. Meanwhile, this really affects the safety of the vehicle as the airbags are not functioning.

5 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

Airbag warning light on the dashboard would turn on when the passenger seat was moved forward. We received a recall on the issue and it "appeared" to fix the issue once completed, but the issue has been happening intermittently throughout the past four years. Today, the airbag warning light stays on at all times as of July 5, 2015.

6 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

Two weeks after purchasing this vehicle the air bag warning light came on. I made an appt with fuccillo Hyundai of schenectady NY, the location where I purchased the vehicle, for one week later. Light went off after 3 days and I contacted fucillo and they told me to make another appt if the light came on a again. It did multiple times over the next several months, I made appts, the light went off after a few days, and fucillo Hyundai kept telling me to make another appt if the light came on again. The air bag light did this for months and in early 2010 while in cocoa florida the light illuminated and I visited cocoa Hyundai and they told me not to drive the vehicle if the light came on, the airbags would not work in an accident, they offered me a loaner to drive and they began work on the vehicle within the hour. Light came on after a short period of time, had it in to cocoa Hyundai a second and then yet again a third time over 2 months. The light has been going on and off for the past 3 1/2 years and it has now been on for the past 4 months, I can`t afford to have the vehicle into the shop on a regular basis and would like you to look into this make and model for air bag defects.
