Tl the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v061000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving in inclement weather, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to effectively slow the vehicle. The brake light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was not provided.
My vehicle previously failed a state safety inspection for failed brake lights just several months after purchase (October 2010). Just prior to this failed inspection, I'd noticed that the "esc off" light on the dash would turn on unexpectedly. My local Hyundai dealership repaired the brake light switch, which also remedied the "esc off" light issue. Just over a month ago, the "esc off" light on the dash again began to turn on without reason. A few days ago, while merging onto an interstate near my home, a vehicle behind mine barely avoided an accident with me when I had to suddenly slow to make a merge. The driver kindly alerted me that he did not notice any brake lights when I suddenly stopped. So, it seems as if I am again going to have to have the brake light switch, which has already been a known problem in a number of Hyundai vehicles, repaired.
